Tiger 10.4.11 connection to server shows Zero KB available

For some reason the two Macs in our company running Mac OS X 10.4.11 are not able to save to our company's server for a certain drive. There is 3.9 T of free space available but at the bottom of the finder window this is what reads "Zero KB available". We already tried all the basic trouble shooting steps as follows:
Restarted computer(running OS X 10.4.11) and logged back in to server. "Zero KB available"
Using my same login on another MAC that is running Leopard, this works and shows there is 3.9 T available.
Restarted the server and logged in my computer(using OS X 10.4.11) using my login, did not work. Still says "Zero KB available" when accessing the server.
I am assuming it has something to do with our OS. Leopard works fine, using Tiger does not. I am able to access files on the server but have to save them to my desktop if I want to save changes to the image. This is a problem because if people need to access my edits, they are not able to because I can't not post them on the server.
Access to the server has worked fine up until yesterday when both computers running Tiger 10.4.11 were no longer able to save to the server.
Already spoke with the IT department and basically got as far as we could to no avail. Any help with the situation would be greatly appreciated.

  • Trouble deleting name/password when connecting to server

    I teach in a computer lab populated with 10.3.9 eMacs. I have students log onto a server (10.2.8) to store their files. One kid has managed to save his server connection login name and password so that it comes up as the default. Not a good idea with other students using the same computer and are thus able to access his file folder. I've tried emptying every cache and preference file that looks to be related to the connect to server screen to no avail. Clicking the Options button and unchecking/checking options did not change his name and password from appearing automatically either. There has to be a way to undo this, but I'm at the end of my progress bar. Any suggestions? Thank you.

    Do your users use Exchange?  If so, they can log into OWA and change the password from there.
    Do you have a Mac server kicking around?  If so, you can bind it to the domain, set up an AFP share that the users can access, and then they can change password from the connect to server dialog as shown below:
    Note that AFP provides a Change Password... button.  Clicking it...
    Allows you to change a password.  This server in bound to AD and the jadams users is an AD account.

    We are encountering what I think would be a normal error in most cases if a client is unavailable or offline.  During client push, we are receiving errors connecting to a NULL value in the log (\\\admin$) as opposed to an actual client:
    Under normal circumstances, the log should read as follows:

    \\<machine_name>\admin$ using <Client Push Account>.
    What we are running into is a repeating error (with some processed CCR records in between) that shows as follows:

    We have Three Domains (Domain1, Domain2, and Domain3) with service accounts specified in the Client Push Installation Client properties. 
    I don't know if there is an entry (or entries) in the SCCM database that are NULL or blank that is generating these errors. 
    \\\admin$ indicates, to me, that there is a missing machine name that should follow the two \\ and before the \admin$.  Obviously we aren't going to be able to connect to a machine with no name (hence the Failed to Connect to Server.  Error
    5). 
    Is there a way to clean the database of these empty records and fix this recurring error?  It repeats every 15 minutes.

    Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up.
    I would review the CM07 console to see if there are any device without a netbios name. It will be these device that are cause you problems.

  • My system won't connect to server after showing that update for 29.0.1 has been accepted

    I receive notice that an update to 29.0.1 is available and have for a week or so. When I install the update a window opens that shows a progress bar that continues to respond, as progress message shows.. connecting to server. I have waited for up to 10 minutes with no change to progress. When checking with mozilla my system shows that I have the latest version. These updates are for security purposes and I need to know if there is a problem or if my system is at risk. Is this update notice a glitch?

  • Playbook won't connect to server or web, although shows wifi connected

    I have a PB that I had been using in US and all the features were working without any problems. I recently traveled to India. The PB worked fine at the Frankfurt airport (in transit). However, since I have reached India I have tried to use it at the residence and have been facing problems. I have saved the wifi and the PB shows itself connected, but, when I try using the PB video chat it says "couldn't connect to server". The emails are not updating. When I try to update them it again says "unable to connect to the email provider server". I am not able to open any web page either. They all time out.I have tried rebooting the PB and the router. 
    Has anybody else faced similar issues? I am getting desperate as I didn't bring my laptop and was relying on PB to get most of the work done!

    To test, and verify that its not a problem with the Wi-Fi router, can you try connecting to another Wi-Fi hotspot.  The web and video chat should be available on the BlackBerry PlayBook while travelling to India.

  • Installing CC, always showing trying to connect to server

    I downloaded the CC installer, when installing after initializing installer, it kept showing try to connect to server for hours! I tried reboot, change network, everything I can,,,,still does not work, it won't get installed.
    Does anybody know how to deal with this?

    Try this...go to mobile data , turn that on  then scroll down till you find mail check if that mail is on.

  • Finder's " Go Menu" is not showing connect to server option.....

    I have a series of iMac computers (running 10.5.8) that finder's go menu is missing the "connect to server" option. Neither does "Apple + K" work on these machines.
    I tried adding the "Connect" button to the tool bar from the customize toolbar option. Once added the icon is grayed out. The computers are connecting out to the internet, but I need them to specifically pick up servers from our school for server run applications. I am not sure why this option is no longer available on my machines. I try reinstalling the op system on the machines, and it still comes back the same way.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    I do manage the machines on a server. I checked workgroup manager and the settings are the same as the rest of my iMacs for these particular machines. The connect to servers command is checkmarked in the finder preferences of work group manager.
    I was logged into the admin account for each machine while trying to find this finder preference. I did delete the plist as directed, and when relaunching finder the connect to server did not come back.
    You'll have to forgive my ignorance as I am a teacher managing machines for my building, as I am teaching myself these basics. This is only happening on a handful of machines. All running up to date 10.5.8. They suddenly stopped working after our school did a network change (separate vlans). All the other machines accepted the change, but these machines suddenly lost this finder preference. Very odd...

  • Got Connect to Server to work again, file sharing 4.9 to 10.1.5!!!

    Folks:
    Have a number of unanswered questions lost on this forum, and been following as many of the threads pertaining to file sharing as possible--and finally pieced some of the suggestions, mostly from BDAqua, together and got the two units to connect. Before this I got "Log In Failed" or "Connection failed" error windows. Haven't had time to actually move files, but I did open some JPEG's from the 10.1 computer in the 10.4.9 . . . what got it working doesn't totally make sense--but it worked.
    When I first posted my issue after erase & upgrade from 3.9 to 4.9 BD asked me if I had another User in account to do some testing with--and I said yes, but what will that do? And he said, ah, you could test things . . . wasn't real encouraging--I think I logged into one new account and tried to connect and it FAILed. Went on to the "roll the AppFileServer kext back to 4.8 version--didn't work. Kept whining--eventually everybody stopped replying. Then I saw another comment by BDAqua answering someone about some issue with having the same user name when trying to use File sharing; that was awhile back.
    Today--put those ideas together and logged both computers into the other user and then used Connect to Server, entering IP address--got the Log In window--put password in and--IT CONNECTED, but only to a "Drop Box" folder that I didn't have "privileges" to open. Following another thread's idea I changed both of those accounts to "allow user to administer computer" in Acounnts. In Tiger I had to log back into the main account to do that--and then I tried to connect, and that time it worked. The most important thing is having another user name to enter--and then I could get access to the HD of either computer. Still some things to work on--going from the iBook to the iMac I can open all files, going from the iMac back to the iBook I can mount the HD, but some of the original files in my Home folder have red minus's and can't be opened. What was odd is that both of my other user accounts have the same name/password, but I could connect; but couldn't with the main accounts--having the same name/password. When I changed those extra accounts into admin also and then logged back into main accounts--I connected by using the name/password of the OTHER account in the second computer.
    The Key is as BD "recalled seeing somewhere" that the User name should be different, so you can use another account on that computer. In Panther it didn't matter if both computers had the same name--in Tiger apparently it does. Hope this helps--took me a lot of messing/time to bring all the details together--1.5 months. A head's up from Apple might have been--nice???

    Verbosity doesn't really begin to cover it--that was the short version of the process. 1.5 months ago had 15 posts--100 posts later a solution was developed. Don't know if rolling back the kext to 4.8 is needed--won't get a chance to try doing a full install of 4.9 + Security update on my Ext HD to test what is really necessary. Or whether it is necessary to make the New Account an administrator or not; when they connected it was so surprising and so simple. I'd like to find the thread where it shows how to change the original User Name for the admin/computer & see if that is all that is needed. Like all creative people I named my units after me, my name. Now I'd like to change one to be "Johnny" or I'll name it "Tiger" after all the fiddling it's taken to find such a simple solution--I've grown attached to my OS. : - 0

    I cannot get my G4 iMac running the latest updated Tiger to connect to a PC running Win2K (home network) through a basic router and junction box.
    Both are connected to the internet (DSL) via a router, then one of those "splitter" or junction boxes (what's the right term for this thing?) -- the connection goes from the DSL outlet on the wall, to the router, then into this junction box, which then connects the iMac and the PC to the net.
    No problems with the net connection for both machines.
    Way back when I first had a different PC connected to this configuration, I COULD see the PC from the iMac, and vice versa. File sharing worked seamlessly.
    Then one day, for no good reason, the Mac could no longer "see" the PC ... but the PC could see the iMac. So I resigned myself to swapping files to and from the PC.
    Just recently, I changed internet providers for my DSL, resulting in an entirely new IP address setup for each machine. Both machines now get the net. But now NEITHER machine can see the other.
    From the Mac, I have tried:
    Clicking on the Network icon in the Finder
    Typing various different things into the window that results when I click "GO" then "Connect To Server" -- the IP address of PC, the name of the PC, etc.
    Ensuring "Windows file sharing" is engaged in the "Sharing" window of the System Preferences
    Ensuring "Appleshare" is on
    Ensuring the firewall allows traffic with windows file sharing
    From the PC I have tried:
    Ensuring the main drive is shared
    Installed every network sharing device I could (TCP/IP, etc)
    From the "My Network Places" window, tried "adding a new network place" (iMac doesn't show up)
    Clicking on the "Computers Near Me" icon (nothing but the PC itself shows up)
    Clicking on the "Add Network Place" icon (cannot find the iMac no matter what I type into the window, or when I click "Browse")
    Why is this so difficult? Why won't it work now when it did before? Why has the machine-to-machine capability of seeing each other steadily degenerated over time?
    I know I can go out and buy "Dave" to possibly get this working ... but I shouldn't have to, Tiger has been touted as the most amazing networking thing yet. And, it worked before.
    Is there a way to run a diagnostic on the networking function of Tiger? Could it have possibly been damaged?
    Any suggestions?

    you could mean a hub or a switch, but how many ports does your router have?

    This is not normal your internal ip addresses would remain the same even if when you change your ISP.

    It sounds to me your network needs to be troubleshooted before we can answer that.
    I know I can go out and buy "Dave" to possibly get

    You don't need Dave at all. Samba is the pc filesharing protocol and that is built into Tiger.
    Is there a way to run a diagnostic on the networking

    Yes there is away to diagnose your problem we can work on that.
    Any suggestions?
    What is the make and model of your dsl modem?
    What is the make and model of your router? What is the make and model of the box your refer to as splitter.
    Also goto the network preferces of your mac and post back what your ip address is and what router ip address you have.
    On your pc goto the start menu, click run, enter the work 'command' press enter.
    In the dos window type
    ipconfig
    press enter
    and post back the results.

  • Too many sharepoints when connecting to server

    I have a 10.5.8 Tiger server. I am upgrading to the new Lion Server. I have setup the server, created users and groups and setup Sharepoints using the Server App. The problem is I have several sharepoints specific to certain groups. In Tiger the user would mount the server from GO/Connect to Server.
    There would be only one volume or sharepoint available. Once mounted they would only have access to the directories/sharepoints for their group. The
    other directories would be locked. This is still the case with Lion once they mount the main volume.
    However the difference in Lion I am trying to figure out is ALL the sharepoints I have created show up in the list of the mounted server when connecting through GO/Connect to Server. Even the sharepoints a certain user does not have access to. When they try and mount the shrepoint they do not have access to they are given a message that they do not have access to this sharepoint. How can I hide those sharepoints from showing up in the mount window? In Tiger I have the same amount of sharepoints but only one volumes shows up for the users to mount.

    I know this sounds silly but while in Finder goto (Finder)/(Preferences) and then make sure your on the (General) tab, make sure all the things you want to show are checked.
    If that doesn't help move the com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop you can find in in ~/Library/Preferences ( ~ = Your Home Folder), log out/log in, and see if that fixes the problem if not go ahead and move the plist file back.
