Tiger & Maximum Hard Drive Size?

Hello,
I have an older Mac tower - 733/2gb ram with an eSATA mod. Is there any limitation on the size or kind of hard drive I can install internally? Until now I've used up to 250gb, I'd like to install something greater than 500gb.

this RAID card will allow you to combine 2 500GB PATA drives (not sure if any larger PATA capacities are available) as one large volume, with faster read/write performance than a single drive. The striped RAID option joins Master and Master drives on separate cables, and Slave and Slave drives, so you could have 2 striped RAIDS, and use one to back up the other. this card will also work with OS 9 (might not matter to you)

Hello,
What is the maximum hard drive size for a 350 MHz slot loading imac?
I am aware of a 128 GB limit on imacs. Does the 128 GB hard drive limit apply to all imac CRTs or just the earlier models?
Here are the specs of my imac:
Blueberry 350 MHz
Slot loading CD-ROM drive,
6 GB hard drive
Is the maximum hard drive size limit of 127GB apply to this particular model?

Yes, the last CRT iMac was in 2001. The first machines with built-in greater than 127 GB support were released in June 2002, as this article explains:

UCS C series maximum hard drive size

Looking for info on the maximum hard drive size support on teh UCS C series. I have a C200M2 that I added a 4TB drive, I have updated the server to the latest firmware and BIOS however the server shows the drive size is 2TB.

If you successfully installed ONE HDD of 4GB and made it work, you were lucky cause I don't see any disk with that size, I have not even seen a disk of that size for UCS yet.
I am wondering if perhaps you installed 4 disks of 1TB and configured them in RAID 1 which would explain the reason for the size to go down to half of the capacity of the array as RAID 1 is a mirror.

it doesn't exist yet. You can use any sata hdd with 2.5 inch form factor and 9.5 mm thickness.

Maximum hard drive size for upgrading a dv6375ea?

Hello to all,
My hard drive began to make noises and since it is past warranty, I will upgrade it. When I had bought the laptop I had chatted with a HP personnel on these support pages, and he/she had told me that the maximum size that the bios allowed was 120 gb. That is the original hard drive size!
Has anyone upgraded their hard drive or does anybody know of a technical value that I should try?

You can install as large a drive as you can find as long as it is SATA and 2.5" wide and 9.5 mm thick. SATA drives have no BIOS size limit. However, some have occasionally reported issues with 500 gig drives and 7200 rpm drives. I can therefore tell you with 100% certainty you can install a 320 gig 5400 rpm drive in your laptop. My favorite website for laptop hard drives is newegg.com. Don't buy from HP parts; it will cost way too much. You should be able to find the drive I mention for around $80 and laptop drives are also sold at Best Buy, Frys and similar stores.

I found no iMac 8,2, do you mean iMac 8,1 ???
There is no practical limit to the size, the biggest ones made will work fine... assuming the all important SATA 3 Gb/s speed, WD drives use a jumper on pins 5&6 to slow it from 6 Gb/s to 3 Gb/s.

Maximum Hard Drive Size

I have the 1.5 GHZ PowerBook G4 17". I can't seem to find any guidance elsewhere on the 'net or on the Apple site on this question:
What is the largest hard drive my PowerBook will recognize?
I see a lot of people putting 160GB hard drives in with no problem but is that the maximum size my computer will recognize? I see 250GB and 320GB drives available - will my PowerBook recognize them?

To be honest I do not know what is the largest drive that the 17" PowerBook will recognise. However it should have no problem with a 160GB drive. Seagate have a 5400RPM 160GB drive which is readily available from online resellers for around $250 (or less).
If you want to wait for larger capacity drives you may have to wait quite a few months as 200GB was only just recently announced. Therefore it will probably not be readily available for a while yet.
Whichever drive you decide upon, make sure you choose do not choose one with a Serial ATA interface as they have different connectors and will be incompatible. The interface you need is Ultra ATA.

What is the maximum Hard Drive size that a G3 B/W will recognize

I have a Disk Utility failed Hard Drive in my B/W G3 Power Mac. The Disk Utility was unable to repair it so I guess I will be in the market to purchase a new one. Is there a maximum size hard Drive that a G3 will recognize? I had an 80 GB drive before.

If your only problem was that Disk Utility was unable to repair it, that means the software pointers in the Directory are messed up pretty bad. That does NOT mean the Drive has failed, and does NOT mean it needs to be replaced. You have two options:
A) Get a better Disk repair Tool, such as Disk Warrior to apply to the problem. Your directory and all your data may still be saveable. Do NOT install any utilities onto the drive you are trying to save. Run them from a CD or another Drive, if possible.
B) copy what files you can to another drive and reinitialize your Drive. CAUTION: This will erase everything on the Drive. If you choose this path, I recommend using the Write Zeros option at this point. It will take hours, plan accordingly. It will take many more hours to re-install the Mac OS and your Applications.
If you do not have another Drive, and want to get a bigger one, that is fine, but you should do so with the understanding that your old one may not be dead.

Maximum hard drive size for HP HPE-180t

Is there a way to have the entire space of a 4TB SATA III (6Gb/s) drive show up in Windows 7 x64 running on an HPE 180t? I installed one such hard drive on my HPE-180t, and the BIOS only saw 2TB of space, and the drive did not show up in Windows. HP Diagnostics tools (run before Windows starts) reported the following error "communication with device failed".   The motherboard and bios info is shown below. SATA mode is set to RAID.   The hard drive itself passes all the SMART tests in BIOS and seems to function fine.
There are two separate problems.   The communication error above, which needs to be solved first, and the "only 2TB showing in BIOS" problem.   Can the 2TB problem be addressed with another BIOS on this motherboard or some BIOS setting on the existing BIOS? If so, what is the BIOS and/or settings?
I looked through HP online support today (including google searches on the HP support forums) and did not see the answer to these questions/problems.

Envy 17t J000 - Maximum Hard Drive Size and speed

I going to place a 2nd hard drive in the open space in my Envy 17t-j000.
The Maintenance and Service Guide states;
Hard drives Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives in 9.5-mm (.37-in) and 7.0-mm (.28-in) thicknesses (all hard drives use the same bracket)

Supports the following hard drives:
● 1-TB 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm
● 750-GB 5400-rpm 9.5-mm
● 500-GB 5400-rpm 9.5-mm and 7.0-mm
Dual hard-drive configurations:

This seems to mean that I cannot use a single 2 TB 2nd drive and cannot use a 7200 RPM drive.
Is this correct? Doesthe bios not allow a larger than a 1 TB drive or the 7200 RPM?
CouldI simply partition the 2nd drive into 2 - 1TB?
Or does the manual simply mean that the standard HP unit is not supplied with larger than these sizes and I could actually use a 2 TB in the 2nd bay?

It is the latter....the list just says what HP has to sell: it does not describe a system limitation. However, I do not believe the market yet offers a 2 TB drive that will fit in the space available. The 2 TB 2.5 inch SATA drives I have seen are too thick. 7200 rpm or hybrid or SSD; not a problem.
To add a second drive you will need a second hard drive caddy and cable.

HP 6510b Maximum Hard drive Size

Hi
I try to upgrade my HP 6510b with a new hard drive. But none of the 2 I tried are recognized. I tried a Hitachi 320Gb and a Seagate 500Gb. I both case, the BIOS doesn't seem to see them. These 2 drives are working on an other laptop and it seems they are poweredup when plugged in my 6510b. So here are my questions:
1. Is there any limitations on the size of the HDD an this laptop?
2. Does the hard drive have to be formatted in a special way to be recognized in the BIOS?
3. Can the BIOS be blocking the detection of HDD?

I read your post about the Size of HDD. The size of the HDD does matter when going into the computer. The motherboard can only accommodate a certain dimension as well as speed that it can handle. These performance characteristics can be grouped into two categories: access time and data transfer time.

Maximum Hard Drive Size for Mac Pro OS X 10.6.4

I would like to install a backup drive in my Mac Pro. What is the largest drive I can install?
A 1.0T would work but a 2.0T would be better.
When I bought my Mac Pro in Oct 2008 it stated I could have up to 4.0T of drive space. Does that mean I am limited to 1.0T drives? I have since upgraded to Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.4. Will it recognize 2.0T drives?
The new drive will be used for backup only. Any recommendations?

Does anyone know the maximum hard drive size for a 2007 Macbook Pro (A1226)?

I have a 2007 Macbook Pro (A1226). Is there a limit to the sized hard drive that can be installed? If so, what is the largest hard drive I can put into it? I have a 500GB HD that I upgraded to from the 320 GB that was in it when I bought it. I'm now trying to install a 1 TB or 750 GB drive, but after cloning with 'Carbon Copy Cloner' and installing it, I get the "?-folder" flashing when I start up. I'm pretty confident in CCC because if I use it to clone to another 500GB HD, it works fine. The problem only occurs when I try to use larger drives. Is 500GB the largest HD I can use in this machine? If so, can anyone point me to a spec sheet so I can be sure the next Macbook I buy can be expanded to suit me.

YES! See the my old instructions below. What you might try after step 5 is to restart you MBP holding down the Option key. Select the new HDD icon and see if it boots. This way you will know that the new HDD is operable.

INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MB
1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
2. You will need a HDD enclosure. One with a USB connection will do. A 9 pin Firewire is better.
3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE. From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field. Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'. Click on the 'Erase' button.
5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top). Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination' field. Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more. A Firewire will speed up the transfer. This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives. Start the MBP and you have finished the installation. The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.

Satellite P30 - Maximum Hard Drive size

Hi there,
I have a Satellite P30-141 with BIOS version 1.40 running XP pro SP2.
The hard drive is a 60GB model and I want to upgrade to a larger model.
I am thinking of a Seagate 5400.3 160GB model but I am unsure if the BIOS will support such a large drive. Has anyone done this before? What is the largest drive you have put in your P30?
I also have the Hitachi 7K100 100GB as a second option if the Seagate wont work.
