Hey there,
Have you installed the Airport Utility for your Windows machine? If not, try that, and from there you should be able to access the Time Capsule. I provided the URL for the Airport Utility download just in case. Also, make sure you have your Time Capsule set to allow file sharing. Hope this helps.

  • I want to connect an Airport Express via WiFi to my internet connection and then connect its LAN port to the WAN port of a Time Capsule. Will then any device connected to the time capsule wirelessly be also connected to the internet?

Background is I can't hook up my time capsule directly to my internet connection via network cable. I tried to extend the network via Wifi, but that did not work. At the moment I have two wireless networks, one with internet connection and another one with my time capsule. So to use time machine I have to change my network all the time.
Can I buy an Airport Express, use is as a client to my internet connection wifi and provide that connection via network cable to my time capsule and all it's wifi clients?

The AirPort Express will connect to your existing wireless network if the network is using WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security settings.
So, it can join the network as a client and then provide an Ethernet signal to your Time Capsule.
Be sure to configure the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode so that it will be operating on the same network.

  • Time capsule set up without connecting to the internet?

    Hi,
I'm renting a suite that already has a Time Capsule network set up. I have my own Time Capsule, that I want to use solely as a hard drive for backing up my computer.
How can I set this up without changing the existing internet configuration? I know it's possible, I just can't for the life of me figure out how. The light on my TC keeps flashing amber, and my Macbook can't detect it at all, even if I connect it with an ethernet cable to either the WAN or LAN ports.
    Please help!!!

Set it to bridge mode.. before you plug it in.
In bridge it will act just as a second WAP and hard disk.
Use the 5.6 utility since you have lion.

  • Is it possible to share one wifi with two time capsule which are both connected to the network via cable?

    Hello Community,
this is my first contribute here so please do not expect a 100% question with all important information! I will do my very best!
    Situation:
2 Time Capsule (one 1st generation, one 4th generation)
both connected wired to my network
    Question:
Is it possible to create one unique wifi Network with both TC's ? So wireless Devices connect to one TC (which is best at this position) but both TC's route traffic over wired connection?
    Understand what I mean?

    Hi Bob,
just configured it, but my primary TC's is in orange blink state now!
Error Message is "Double-NAT"! If my understanding is right, than the Problem is that my Router and my primary TC's does NAT!
Do I have to deactivate DHCP and NAT on my router or is there another way to work around?
    Thank you so much
    Christoph

  • Is there ANY possible way to back up my Macbook (2009, running on OSX 10.5.8) using Time Capsule using a cable/not using the internet? I'm willing to come in-store to do this if necessary!

Time Capsule/Time Machine were working fine until about 1-2 years ago when my family started having troubles with the internet provider (AT&T). While on a 2 hr long phone conversation with them trying to fix it, they changed the wireless key code or whatever so Time Capsule could no longer connect to the network (icing on the cake - they didn't even fix the issue). And it had been so long since I had initially set up Time Capsule that I didn't know how to set it up again.
Situation is a bit more complicated now because I'm living on campus in another state, and the campus wifi is very slow/goes in and out a lot. They don't recommend connecting routers to their network bc they say it will make it even worse.
It just makes me really nervous that I haven't backed up my laptop in a couple years. I have thousands of priceless photos and years of hard work that I would very much like to keep safe. I paid all this money to have an external drive and am dying to continue using it! It just doesn't make sense that I can only use it wirelessly - there must be another way. I'm desperate to back up my laptop and will come to Genius bar if necessary to resolve this issue!
    PLEASE HELP!!!

This can be done easily with ethernet.
    Please follow the instructions strictly.
To make it easier I want you to do this overnight so you can turn off all your current connection to the internet.
Just go to the airport fan in to the top right and turn airport off.
Get ethernet cable and connect the laptop to the TC lan port.. ie <-> ones.
Press and hold the reset on the TC for about 10sec. until the front led flashes rapidly.
Open the airport utility.. go to manual setup and change the wireless to off. (so other people around you cannot join your network of one).
Ignore all the errors.. they won't stop the backup working.
Go to the TM and reselect the backup target disk as the TC.
It should start after 2min and run through to completion.
That is it.. for a backup of many GB it might take a few hours.. so make sure the laptop has power plugged in and the sleep is off.. (on early ones I think this is needed but I am a late arrival to the scene).. sleep doesn't affect later OS.

  • Hi, my Iphone 4s is no longer picking up the signal from my time capsule, that was after i changed the ip address for the time capsule.

i use to connect my iphone 4s to my time capsule through wirless, for some reason, the time capsule IP address changed and i had to retern it the correct one. when i did this , my iphone stopped connecting to the time capsule wireless . how cn i return the connection to the iphone 4s?
    thank you

Reset the TC.. use SMB names, short, no spaces pure alphanumeric for everything.
TC name, wireless name, hard disk share name.
Fix the radio channels.. try channel, 6, 11 maybe 1 although I have heard people have issues with 1.
It sounds like the TC is bridged.. make sure the main router dhcp has sufficient addresses available.
There are a few other things but try those and post again if you still have issues.

  • DHCP only works for wireless clients on Time Capsule. How to fix?

    Hi All,
I have a question concerning the DHCP server on my Time Capsule. I'm posting here because I think you network pros lurking in this forum probably have way more insightful advice than the n00bs in the Time Capsule forum
My DHCP server on the Time Capsule only works for clients connected wirelessly to that specific access point; clients plugged directly into the network via ethernet and through other APs do not receive a DHCP assignment from the Time Capsule.
How can I get the Time Capsule to serve DHCP addresses to EVERYONE on the network, not just clients connected via the Time Capsule?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I don't know that TC provides that. Switch the TC over to its bridged mode (also known as an Access Point or AP), and run a DHCP Server on Mac OS X Server (fodder for this forum) or a DHCP server on another available device. Less desirable though feasible (so long as the IP address pools are coordinated and non-overlapping with other pools or static addresses), run multiple DHCP servers.

  • How can i connect a windwos vista laptop with time capsule. Both are still in the same network

    Hi,
i have a running wlan network. In this network are a macbook pro, a Vista notebook and the time capsule. The Macbook runs perfectly with the time capsule, but how can I connect the vista machine with the time capsule?
    Thanks for help

The TC is SMB (windows networking protocol) compatible.
Is the issue wireless? Can you get internet via the TC?
Are you trying to access the hard disk?
Did you load the airport utility for windows..? If not please do so.. that at least is the first step. It loads bonjour for windows, and a connection agent.
Sometimes that is all that is required.
Open a windows explorer and type in the address bar
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress .. obviously replacing the generic name with actual name or IP.
You might need to change all the names to SMB standard via the utility. Short no spaces pure alphanumeric.
You might need to fix the permissions.. ie turn on the guest account if security isn't an issue.
You might need to fix networking in the vista .. shudder.. notebook.. to ensure it is not blocking the TC.

  • I can't connect to the drive on my airport time machine and am receiving the message: "AirPort Time Capsule" can't be opened because the original item can't be found.

Time capsule has been working perfectly for months.
Suddenly I can't connect to the drive on my airport time capsule and am receiving the message: “AirPort Time Capsule” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.
Time machine appears to be still backing up (last backup within the last hour), but drive is not visible and I have files stored on it.
I have tried rebooting everything in order as suggested for other issues, anyone got any ideas how to see the drive again??

    What OS are you running??
It is very typical Yosemite issue.
    1. In airport utility does the TC show up.. if so click it.. and see the summary page which will include its IP address. That is what you are after.
From my screenshot you can see the TC address is 192.168.2.57
It might well show up briefly after a reboot or in ipad / iphone version utility. Yosemite is hopeless. The airport utility hardly works.
    2. In Finder use Go, Connect to server.
Type in SMB://192.168.2.57 (replace with IP you discover).
If it is possible it will request a password.. type that in and DO NOT FORGET.. to store it in your keychain.
This will work until the TC changes IP which won't happen if it is main router.. but will happen if it is bridged.. so you need to tell me the whole network setup.
Mavericks is nearly as bad and the above instructions should be universal except I would use AFP instead of SMB. Apparently Yosemite is now totally Windows oriented.

  • Connecting Time Capsule to another router to expand the number of wired machines

I run a lab of 12 macintosh computers and 1 PC running Windows 7.  The only way to connect to the internet with these computers is through wireless, which has a login access point.  This Lab is for a school which does not support Apple computers, so there is no way to have a wired connection, and you have to login to the secure server every time you restart the computer or time out.
I own a 2 TB Time Capsule which I would like to use as a back up device for all the computers, and also have the computers share folders with each other for increased access for our students.
I have tried logging in wirelessly then bridging that Airport connection to the ethernet and using that as the WAN connection for the Time Capsule, which works when I setup, but every time I am forced to login to the wireless network the Domain numbers change so I have to change the Time capsule setup due to the bridging.
After much research on bridging, my current setup is
Created a Network Settings Location with Wifi first, Ethernet second, then bridge from Wifi to Ethernet
Time Capsule set up to Connect using DHCP
    Router address set to 192.168.2.1
DNS Servers set to 10.157.2.208 (echoing the wireless connection)
If I am not successfully able to bridge this wireless connection to act as the WAN point to share wireless, I am resigned to using the Airport to connect to wireless and connecting the computers to the Time Capsule via wired connection.  I would like all 12 computers (13 if it is possible to include the PC) to connect to the same router, so I will need to use another larger router to connect, then connect the Time Capsule into this also.  I am unfamiliar with how to set up the Time Capsule in this manner to the larger LAN.

You will have to use the wired connection.. there is no way for you to get around the login screen from the TC to pass internet via the TC connection.
You will need to buy a switch .. not a router. A 16 port gigabit switch is relatively cheap now.. and if it is easier to arrange it might be even cheaper to use two 8 port gigabit switches. The single switch is superior setup but a lot more long cables involved usually.
The TC then simply plugs into the switch.
The rest of the setup is rather special.. you will do better manually setting up the IP addresses on each computer to make sure you are not going to mess up their internet access.
I did a fairly detailed look at this with lots of screen shots in the following thread.

If any of that doesn't make sense just ask.

  • Hi iv got a sky router downstairs and a time capsule up stairs how do i set it up so that it just extends the sky wifi and then the hard drive in the time capsule is accessible from all over the house thanks

hi iv got a sky router downstairs and a time capsule up stairs how do i set it up so that it just extends the sky wifi and then the hard drive in the time capsule is accessible from all over the house thanks

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the back of the Sky router to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the back of the Time Capsule. This connection must be maintained at all times.
Then, using the setup "wizard" on your iMac illustrated below, configure the Time Capsule to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name and password that the Sky router is using.
You can get the setup wizard going in several different ways, but the simplest might be to click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen and then click on Time Capsule under the heading of New AirPort Base Station.
The wizard will open up and analyze the network, then the suggest the correct setup. The example below shows an older AirPort Express that is about to be setup in the same way. You will see a Time Capsule icon on your screen when you run the setup wizard.

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule. Error: Could not connect to the disk. Make sure NetBIOS is enabled and try again (53).

I have a Time Capsule that I've been using for a while now. I've got a Windows 8 PC and a few MacBooks that I use with it.
Recently, I had to hard-reset my Windows 8 PC (with the reset button while everything was locked up). When it came back, I couldn't connect to my Time Capsule anymore. I get the error message: "Could not connect to the disk. Make sure NetBIOS is enabled and try again (53)."
    I've tried:
Checking on the NetBIOS service to ensure that it's running
Explicitly enabling NetBIOS on the Internet connection
Renaming my Time Capusle to have no spaces or disallowed characters
Pinging both the Time Capsule's name and IP address (both respond)
    Any suggestions?

Do you have bonjour installed? If not I recommend you install the full apple airport utilities for windows.. although only win7 is available.. it does install in win8. Apple btw need to do some work on making windows access current.
In windows explorer, simply type the address to the TC in the address bar.
    \\TCname or \\TCipaddress
If it fails.. turn off firewall and ensure the PC is located at home..as opposed to work or public. A windows PC can go stupid and think it is suddenly in a new environment for no apparent reason. Your reset might do exactly such a thing.
If you still have issues.. are you getting full internet access ok?
Can you open the airport utility in windows and find the TC? If so go to the file sharing page and turn on the guest account to read and write access. This helps loads.. and make sure the workgroup is set to WORKGROUP.
