Time detection is broken in Mac OS 10.9.1.

Time detection is broken in Mac OS 10.9.1. I'm living in Minsk (GMT +3). Time zone detects correctly, updating time from servers is turned on. But time is always leads +3 hours. How to fix it? Maybe time settings conflics with Windows 7?

Set" TimeZone Support" to OFF.

  • So, is Time Machine just broken in 10.5.2?

I know I'm in the minority here (although Macfixit has a bunch of people complaining as well), but ever since the 10.5.2 update, Time Machine has gone from rock solid to the flakiest feature of OSX since the days of 10.1.5. I've encountered pretty much every error you can think of over the past few days including:
    1. My startup disk was showing up as the Time Machine drive (both the icon and in the pref pane)
    2. I'm sometimes getting very slow backups (measured in KB!)
    3. Time Machine is quitting out on me after it chokes on certain files (and when I omit those files, it chokes on another one)
I've done everything I can think of: reinstalled the full 10.5.2 update and the graphics update (for good measure), repaired permissions, deleted caches, ran DiskWarrior on everything, took my USB drives off the hub they were on, reformatted my Time Machine drives (loosing all my old backups in the process), and removed my SuperDuper clone from the Time machine drive, putting it back on its own partition.
I'm really at a loss, and I've submitted feedback to Apple, but everything was working fine under 10.5.1 and now with .2 it's all busted. What do you think, it Time Machine simply broken? Should I just turn off Time Machine until it gets fixed? My concern is that there is nothing to fix. That it's working fine for most people, and I've just been cursed.
    Thanks for listening.

    Barney,
The issue isn't with Time Machine backing up wireless to a NAS connected to a running workstation or server with open shared directory but with it not working when connected to a wireless router such as the Airport Extreme Base Station. As per Apple's online Time Machine documentation it states "Time Machine in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard can be used to back up to many kinds of Mac OS Extended-formatted drives, but it does not support AirPort Extreme's AirPort Disk feature. Time Machine can back up to another Mac running Leopard with Personal File Sharing, or to a Leopard Server volume, or an Xsan storage device." Keep in mind though people were able to get Time Machine to backup to the NAS connected to the AEBS after entering the terminal command for Time Machine to use unsupported hard drives back when we used 10.5.1 but not since updating to 10.5.2. The reason people are upset is because Apple clearly advertised prior to Leopard's release that Time Machine would work over WIFI to a NAS connected to the AEBS but pulled that information just after releasing Leopard (Reference: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/10/26/appleyanks_wireless_backup_from_leopard_lastminute.html ). This was after several customers including myself had already purchased the AEBS with a NAS drive with the understanding from Apple that Leopard would support this set-up. Apple still has not fixed the issue and their only solution seems to be for customers to buy their Time Capsule which is just the AEBS with an internal NAS drive. I can't speak for everyone but I feel mislead by Apple which is frustrating because I didn't imagine they would pull something like this.

  • In the new OS Yosemite, why is there a loading bar each time i turn on my mac?

I got the OS Yosemite 2 days ago, and i noticed something new. Each time i turn on my mac, there is a loading bar at the bottom of the screen after i enter my password. It takes like 20 seconds to load, but it can be quite annoying. Anyone else have this problem? ( i have the macbook pro 15 inch, mid 2014 )

Open Security preferences and be sure the option requiring a password is unchecked. Or open Accounts preferences, click lock icon and authenticate, click on Login Options button and configure your account for Auto-login.

  • How can i get files from my time capsule to my new mac?

    Hello there,
I know this topic i much discussed, but searching has not turned up a solution.
I have a new mac book pro 15 on order and want to grab my files from my time capsule.   My old mac book pro 15 (3 months old) was encrypted with file safe.  In the past i have never had good results with bringing data to a new mac from time capsules; I've tried many times for my self and family.  As a result I use the time capsule for day to day old file retrieval needs and do manual backups of my data onto externals and NAS devices for migration to new computers-tedious but it has yet to fail me.  This time, I did that with everything except a few folders of my movies and pictures.  They are now prisoner on the time capsule.
What is the best way to get files off the time capsule and does it require that my login and user name on the new mac be identical to that which was on my old mac?
(I change my user names each time i get a new mac, not specifically on purpose but i haven't paid attention to what they were when setting up a new computer.)
    any assistance is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks Allan,
Help me understand what question you're referring to.  I've been through several new macs and am not sure what specifically you're speaking about.
My old mac had a partition on the drive that I do not want on the new mac, so I am concerned about doing a full restore and prefer a file by file or folder by folder. is this possible?

  • HT201250 Can I use Time Machine on two different Macs to back up to one external drive?

Can I use Time Machine on two different Macs to back up to one external drive?
I have one 1T Western Digital backup drive that works well with Time Machine and my MacBook Pro.  I now want to back up my wife's MacBook Air using Time Machine on her Mac and want to know if I can use the same WD external drive or if I need to get a 2nd back up drive?  If I can use one external drive for the two Macs do I need to do something special on the drive or will Time Machine do it automatically?

Yes. You will need to configure Time Machine preferences on each computer to backup to the same drive. Note that you cannot connect the backup drive to both machines at the same time.

  • I am going to restore my Macbook Pro to it's factory condition. In iTunes I have renamed a lot of my songs. Last time I cleaned off my mac and restored my music I had to rename all those songs again. How do I get itunes to remember all of those names?

I am going to restore my Macbook Pro to it's factory condition. I do this every once in a while because it seems to improve performance. I backup everything to an external drive and then I restore only what I want from my backup drive. In iTunes I have renamed a lot of my songs. Last time I cleaned off my mac and restored/reloaded my music I had to rename all those songs again. It took me about 2 weeks to reorganize my music. How do I get iTunes to remember all of those names and keep everything exactly the same when I restore/reload the music into iTunes?

It may seem like it does but it really doesn't.
Just delete stuff you don't want.

Use Time Machine, backup everything, do the reinstall (I recommend you don't do it) then restore your user folder with Time Machine.

This is as far as I've been today. As 10.5.2 has been out on the street for such a short time, perhaps some better clues will show up on this forum or somewhere else.

  • Restoring a time machine backup from a Mac mini to a new Mac mini server

    Hi,
I just replaced a faulty Mac mini with a Mac mini server. I have a time machine backup of my Mac mini and want to transfer it over to the Mac mini. How do I do this?

This is a bit of a guess... But I Imagine you would have to start with the workstation OS install DVD first, and go from there at the appropriate point. Any chance you have or could make a CCC backup instead? I am assuming you could boot a mini server from a backup of mini non-server. Then you could copy it over. This is probably worth a phone call to Apple TAC

  • How do i install time machine backup from old mac to newer one

Hi, I know how to set up a brand new imac with full info and settings from an old mac from a time machine backup on a portable drive, BUT.... this time i have a 2011 imac in my studio already in use that we want to be completly swapped with full info and settings/software etc from an older 2009 imac, which we may sell on.
I have backup up via time machine the older 2009 mac, but when i plug this into the 2011 imac how do i completly wipe it and set up with info from the time machine?? it was easy doing it on a factoryt new mac but not this.
    thanks
    lee

If I have understood you properly, you want to migrate the data from the 2009 iMac onto the 2011 iMac but keeping the existing files on it.
To do this, use Migration Assistant > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889 It will create a new user with the transferred files from the old iMac.
If you want to wipe the 2011 iMac and restore everything from the 2009 iMac, the most reliable way is erasing the hard drive, reinstalling OS X and restoring the backup. If you are using the same OS X version on both iMacs, you can restore the Time Machine backup without having to reinstall OS X, just starting from the Mac OS X DVD (or Recovery HD, if you have OS X Lion or Mountain Lion)

I have Time Machine that I used to back up my old computer. It was running snow leopard. My MacBook died, so I got a new one which is running Lion.  how can I restore the data from the time capsule to my new Mac?

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

Hi.. I'm new to mac, I've got a mac book air and time capsule is it possible to save music, video from iTunes Store directly to time capsule leaving my 128GB Mac free? If so  please help..

You can move your iTunes library.. Apple have explicit instructions to do it. If the library is moved to the TC and accessed over wireless, the efficiency of the whole system will drop dramatically..
A file you download goes.. Modem---TC--Laptop--Back to TC--Store on disk. Double looping the wireless slows it dramatically..
As far as using TC for your iTunes.. you CAN.. but SHOULD YOU?
    Store files on the TC.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24380694#24380694
This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
It cannot be partitioned. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
    Major issues.
    1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
    2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great.
    3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no controls.
    4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!
    5. iTunes will constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is too slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
    6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
    7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.
Read pondini for some work arounds.

Connect time capsule via ethernet to Mac for back-up only. Is it possible without internet connection ?

    Hi Bob,
I'm not certain the post I sent was posted correctly, as I added it as a reply to a 3-year old thread. Since this is a recently-active thread, though not specific to the issue at hand, I thought I'd post again:
Three years ago you helped me set up a roaming wireless network in my home. It's been rock-steady and I'm forever grateful to you for the time and guidance you gave me. I'd now like to swap out my AirPort Extreme base station for a time capsule. As I understand it, I should be able to unplug the base station and replace it with the TC without problem, so long as I use all the same settings on my TC... network name, security protocol, password, etc. Given the complexity of my network, I thought I should check with you first for any advice you might have. I don't want to set up a new network or make any changes to the existing one-- with the exception of using the TC in place of the AE. I'm already using Time Machine for backups. As a refresher, my current setup has the AE as base station and 3 expresses hard-wired with Ethernet connections elsewhere in my home. I have a 4th express set up wirelessly to use with my stereo system at the front of the house. All AXs are 'n's and are set up, as per your instructions, in Bridge mode to extend the existing network. I'm running the most updated version of Mavericks on my MBPro. Any suggestions you might have will be, as always, very much appreciated! Sincerely, Phyllis Sommers
