Time Machine issues (16030) sparsebundle” is already in use for Time Capsule backup process. Just started happeing been using it for over two years.
First, restart the computer and the Time Capsule. In most of the cases, this solve the problem.

Yes, this is because Lion or ML which you are using have lousy networking.
The trick is simply reboot the TC..
Or on Lion use the 5.6 utility and disconnect all users.
For ML sorry.. Apple decided you don't need that function any more!!.

Two Solutions for "sparse bundle already in use" Error
Simple solution (from Bob Timmons):
1. Make sure that no other Macs are backing up the Time Capsule at the time
2. Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
3. Count to ten
4. Plug the power cord back into the back of the Time Capsule
If Simple doesn't work:
The Backup disk image ... sparsebundle ... is already in use. -

It is standard Mountain Lion error due to the networking ability which is comparable to wet string. (actually that was lion.. it dried out some with Mountain Lion.. higher in the hills perhaps!!)

And the above is even a little out of date.. you might need to do a reset to the TC.

It hasnt backed up for over 24 hours now and I am concerned as only in May my whole system crashed and the time machine was not able to recover any data. I do not want this to happen again. Thanks

But the solution is simple.. pull out the power cord from the TC.. count to 10.. Plug in the power cord again.
This is just poor networking from Apple.

Stock standard issue.. asked 5-10 times per day here.. look at "more like this" on the right.
Simply reboot the TC ie pull out the power. .count to 10.. plug the power back in.
Maybe need to restart the network.. in order modem.. router .. TC.. clients. 2min gap.

Excellent apple networking on Lion or ML is usually the issue.
Reboot the TC.. if that don't fix it.. reboot the whole network.. modem.. router.. TC.. clients.. restart in that order.
There are tools.. download the real tool if you have lion..
For ML you are stuck with toyland.. AU 6.1 .. good luck with the plastic hammer.

This was happening with our 10.8 environment and when we migrated to Mavericks, I rebuilt the OS X MacMini Server. Seems worse now with 10.9
Most discussions advise in restarting TimeCapsule or network device. However restarting OS X Server everyday is not a solution. Any advice in resolving this issue is appreciated.
Thanks! CorbinI also had to restart the server and client after applying the "fix" I described above. Basically, no user should have multiple, simultaneous file sharing sessions on the server. But even clearing the user sessions does not resolve the problem beyond the next Time Machine backup, so I also tried disabling and enabling file sharing, but the problem also returns after doing this. Only restarting both the client and server after clearing the sessions has worked for me when I have this problem. The problem may return much later, but this work aroudn definitely works as a temporary solution.
Next time I encounter this problem I will try restarting just the server or just the client, because it is unlikely that the problem exists due to something on both systems. Server 3.x is definitely not as stable as it should be, but for my use, it is getting the job done. -

Most common message in history of the TC.. something has failed to unmount.. Lion and esp. Mountain Lion are affected.
Simple way.. reboot the TC to lose the connections..
Might take a network reboot.
That means restart the whole network from off.. start in order, modem.. router/TC.. clients. 2min gap between them.
But from 5.6 utility you can disconnnect all users.
