Time value error with JSTL in fmt:formatDate

Hi all,
I try to display a date field from my Oracle 10g DB which contains date and time value. In the DB everything is stored correctly. When I use a
<fmt:formatDate value="${row.BEGIN_DATE}" pattern="dd.MM.yyyy HH:mm" />the date is displayed correctly but the time value is always 00:00. How can the time value be displayed correctly. Is this a matter of database or a JSTL configuration?
TIA,
Axel

The value of the pattern attribute should be a
pattern string following the conventions of the
java.text.SimpleDateFormat class.I know this. But the pattern "dd.MM.yyyy HH:mm" should be ok, or what's wrong with this pattern in your opinion?

    I downloaded a trial version of Acrobat XI Pro when I try to save or edit and resave a document I get 'invalid date/time value', error.  I presume it's set for the US and not the UK, can you tell me where I can change the date/time format?

    Hi Rave
    Susan's on leave at the moment so I'm replying on her behalf in the vain hope we can sort things before she gets back and before the trial period runs out!  I'm not sure I understand what you mean by column of date and time - we have a review date in the Word document before we pdf but that's all.  Yes we are saving to a sharepoint server.

  • "The movie contains an incorrect time value" error - saving a trimmed video

    I am attempting to trim a video shot on my Samsung CL65. The video was shot in High Quality HD 1280 x 720. I open the video in QuickTime and then use the Trim command to remove the last part of the video and then close it to Save it. When I save it I get the following error: "The document SAM_0306.MP4 could not be saved as "SAM_0306". The movie contains an incorrect time value." I think this has to do with an encoding error in the original file or in the trimmed file but I have no idea how to get around it.
    Any ideas?

    This info probably won't help with your problem, but it's information for others who get this error.
    It's probably the software that made the MP4. ffmpegX, for example, and the mencoder program inside it, do this with every H264 encoding when the video is longer than 1 hour. Time codes are correct up to 1 hour, then the seconds value gets wacky (3600 is added to it). Quicktime won't save a movie with a time code like 1:20:3623.120 (although it will correctly display 1:20:23 in the player).
    Apple used to offer quicktime scripts that would allow you to see what the time code in a stream really looked like. Applescript appears to have officially and quietly gone missing, though, and those scripts are no longer available online as far as I can tell. There were some really handy other scripts that would allow you to view all sorts of movie properties and manipulate tracks (great for syncing poorly synced sound, for example), but time code problems like the above would invariably mean the movie couldn't be saved.

  • Time Machine Error with brand new WD My Book Studio Edition

    I have a brand new iMac and just bought a new WD My Book Studio Edition 500 gb HD for specific use with my Time Machine. The iMac has a 500 HD is about 3 months old and the WD HD is brand new. I am getting an error when I try to activate and back up with Time Machine that says, " Time Machine Error. This backup is too large for a backup volume. The backup requires 524.4 gb but only 465.5 gb are available. To select a larger volume, or make the backup smaller by excluding files, open System Preferences and choose Time Machine."
    I copied the files from the Time Machine to my hard drive to make as much space as possible. I have a capacity of 465.44 GB and 28.48GB of free space on my MacHD. I have a capacity of 465.64 GB and 465.49 GB of free space on my WD. It is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) the way it was originally sold. I have not tried to reformat. Not too sure about how to. But I have tried all of these scenarios.
    I have tried the following and nothing works to get Time Machine backing up at all:
    1. I have changed the preferences in Time Machine Options to a smaller file size excluding the applications folder (appx. 12 GB),
    2. I have zapped the P-RAM,
    3. I have reset the index in the Spotlight by putting my Macintosh HD and Time Machine in the Privacy section, let it reindex and then pulled it out, and
    4. I have deleted the preferences in Macintosh HD>Library>Preferences>com.apple.TimeMachine.plist.
    Nothing is working and I bought the HD when I was home visiting in the states and I live in Bogota, Colombia. Quite hard to return HD.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Marsh64

    You have a nearly full 500 GB hard drive and you are trying to use TM with a 500 GB hard drive - but the way TimeMachine works, your TimeMachine hard drive should be at least twice the size of your backup data. In other words, to use TM effectively you should have bought a 1 TB external drive.
    With a 500 GB drive for backups, you need to determine exactly what has to be backed up and what can be left out. If you open the TimeMachine preferences you'll see that there's an Options button. Click it and you can select folders to exclude from backing up. For example, you might decide that you don't need to back up your music because it is all on your iPod anyway and the Mac OS and your applications are all on CD so those can be left out. By carefully paring the list down you may be able to get your backup data down under 250 GB and if so, then TimeMachine will do the job for you.
    Another solution would be to drop TimeMachine as your backup solution and simply use a program such as SuperDuper! or CarbonCopyCloner (CCC) to perform your backups. There are advantages and disadvantages to each backup method. As you mull your options, don't be afraid to ask more questions.

  • Time Machine Error with 10.5.2

    So does anyone else have time machine errors after the update? My time machine didn't work in 10.5... but then with 10.5.1 it worked. Now it's broken again. wha?

    Now it is working very well... Except only when I am manually backing up, TM just flies by the scheduled time to automatically backup but while time is going, TM recognizes that it is time, but all it does is postpone the time to the next hour....I'm not going to go back to Time Machine Scheduler, it wrecked too much havoc on the TM system (which is very very picky). But overall, I'm happy that it is just able to backup when I want it to.

  • Time Machine Error with weird math

    Not sure what's the cause of this, but suddenly TM is not backing up. I get this error:
    "Time Machine Error
    This backup is too large for the backup volume. The backup requires 442.3 MB but only 23.6 GB are available."
    How can this be? Only 442 mb needed for the backup, yet I have 50 times that much space available on the TM volume? The only new things on my computer are iTunes 8 and its Front Row update from a couple of days ago. This TM error started sometime last night.
    TIA.

    Tony,
    This is what I have been able to discover about this particular error message.
    Sometimes, this error is legitimate. The user may not realize that they need to exclude additional hard disks that TM may be seeing. This is done in the “Options…” window of the Time Machine Preferences.
    Nevertheless, many times this error just doesn’t make sense, stating that not enough free space exists for a backup that is clearly smaller. (“The backup requires 45.9 GB but only 182.6 GB are available”)
    The answer and fix may have been discovered by a poster in the macosxhints forums: (http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-84284.html)
    Essentially, while Time Machine DOES delete old backups from the sparsebundle, it DOES NOT free up the space occupied by those old backups. Eventually, "all previous backups were deleted and no space was gained. . . . What appears to be going on here is that the sparsebundle isn't self-shrinking - unused bands aren't being automagically discarded."
    The solution is to compact the TM backup sparsebundle in Terminal using:
    hdiutil compact yoursparsebundlefilename.
    He concludes, "I gained 30+gb of space on the backup volume by compacting that sparsebundle. And now TM runs just fine, since it has plenty of space."
    Obviously, this is a bug in TM. It does not appear to effect everyone, and only seems to appear under certain curcumstances.
    Let us know if this works for you.

  • Strnage error with JSTL 1.0

    Hi all,
    I've just started exploring the use of JSTL 1.0 tag libraries in my application and everything has been cool so far... up till I encountered this strange error.
    What I did was this:
    1) create 2 ArrayLists in a HTTP Servlet and put them onto the request context as as follows
    ArrayList ListofForumsForWhichUserIsASecretariatContact = forumDAO.selectAllForumsBySecretariatContact(userID);
    ArrayList upcomingMeetings = meetingDAO.selectUpcomingMeetingsByForumID(Integer.parseInt(currentForumID));
                    pageContext.setAttribute("ListofForumsForWhichUserIsASecretariatContact", ListofForumsForWhichUserIsASecretariatContact, PageContext.REQUEST_SCOPE);
                    pageContext.setAttribute("upcomingMeetings", upcomingMeetings, PageContext.REQUEST_SCOPE);As you can see, the ArrayList are actually populated by DAOs
    2) On my JSP page, I tried to iterate through both lists and display their data. The first one came out ok, but the second one gave me this nasty looking error:

    <%
    ArrayList upcomingMeetings = (ArrayList) pageContext.getAttribute("upcomingMeetings", PageContext.REQUEST_SCOPE);
    Iterator iter = upcomingMeetings.iterator();
    while (iter.hasNext()) {
        MeetingVO meeting = (MeetingVO) iter.next();
        out.println("ID=" + meeting.getID() + ", name=" + meeting.getName());
    %>This displayed the results I was looking for, i.e. the IDs and Names of the "meetings" in the ArrayList. So it seems that my servlet is passing the object correctly to the JSP, but JSTL doesn't seem to be casting properly here :-(
    I don't understand why one ArrayList would work, while another fails??
    Anyone ever encountered this anomaly before? Appreciate any help, as this is for a urgent project due soon :-(

    Ah yes, that's it!

  • Time Machine errors with external hard drive

    This is my first post,
    I've had my MBP for a little over 8 months and came up with an error when i went to go use bootcamp, saying that it could not partition my windows partition cause there is not enough space ( I have like at least 40+ gigs left after i partition it) and it tells me to backup and re-install. So what I wanted to do is do a time machine restore.
    I take my 750GB Western Digital External Drive via Firewire and plug it in, time machine recognizes it and wants to format it as "Mac OS X Extended (Case-Sensitive, Journaled). So I do that and it all goes well.
    After that's all done is basically when all my problems come. My external likes to lock up now and doesn't want to transfer all my files. I will load up the time machine restore and it sometimes will recognize my external and sometimes wont show up. My external will occasionally lock up during the time machine restore process. And all the time when it does actually complete and I restart the computer, it will have most of my things but all my pictures and stuff are missing off it and i go to look in my external and its still all in there but I'm left wondering why it didn't work.
    As another resort i did a fresh re-install of mac os x and tried the migration assistant. It went going to restore it but then comes up with an error saying that it cant transfer the data and tells me to plug in my external when i have it already plugged in.
    Since that didn't work I did another re-install of mac and decided to just start fresh, I still had all my music and other things that I had on my back up and tried putting them on my mac's hard drive and towards the middle and stuff it will come up with an error saying that it could not transfer files anymore and what not.
    So I'm left scratching my head in wonder, because my external will show up on my desktop and I'm able to search files through there ok.
    Could the possible problem be is that time machine partitioned it as journaled and case-sensative while my mac is partitioned as just journaled? Would that cause a conflict of having it locking up and giving me errors?
    This is really the first time I've ever really been able to seriously play around with a mac and am totally lost and don't know what I can be doing wrong.
    The external I have I just got last year not too long ago and it was working great before this.
    I've been trying for the past 3 days straight trying to figure out this problem and have had no luck.
    Please any help would really be appreciated greatly.
    Thanks in advance!!!

    Ok I tried what you said and I failed every time.
    But here is an interesting thing that I just figured out. What I tried was making a folder on the desktop and I went into the time machine backup that I had I went and manually copied the applications, library, system, users, and developer folder thinking that it may work. Well it did for me with all the folders but not the Library folder. I think that it may be the culprit behind it cause it may be corrupt and thats why my stuff will keep locking up.
    I will start copying all the other folders and they work just fine but then i would start to copy the Library folder and it would come up saying preparing to copy to "so and so" folder. well a bit into that it will stop and my external will spin down and stop working, all the other things being copied will stop in their tracks. But when I cancel it and wait a few for it to finally cancel, all my other folders will continue to copy to my desktop to the specified folder. I tried copying the Library folder over and over but same thing happened. It locked my system and my external up.
    I thought all along that I had a bad external drive when i knew it worked well when I first got it.
    So could that be a possibility that there's something in that folder that would completely halt everything when I'm copying? Because I've really never done a fresh reinstall of mac os x when I bought the machine. This backup is the factory install.
    I'm just sitting here right now making sure that these other folders that are copying get done so I know that I can single out the Library folder. And so far so good with all the copying via firewire.

  • Time Machine Error with Lion

    Been using Time Machine with no problems for a couple of years now. It's wonderful. Upgraded to Lion two weeks ago and it's been working flawlessly. However, two days ago, my Time Machine backup quit working. I'm not getting the following error message every time I try to perform a backup:
    "The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk. The problem may be temporary. Try again later to back up. If the problem persists, use Disk Utility to repair your backup disk"
    I have run Disk Utility twice a day for the past two days and nothing. It says the volume is fine and does not need repairing, yet the backup continues to fail.
    I have checked Software Update and there are no updates available. I have checked the drive manufacturer and there are no firmware updates.
    I have (4) internal disks. All of them check out fine, permissions are checked, repaired. Nothing.
    The Apple tech document suggests deleting my backup and doing a new one. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a backup in the first place, right?
    It's been working just fine until now. Any ideas on how to proceed?

  • Time Machine error with a Lacie USB HD

    Since last march I have had great success with Time machine. It wasn't till mid-November that things went wrong. This is the error I now recieve,
    "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume."
    I called apple and they were unable to solve it over the phone. They sent me a script to get my system spec's and attempt to solve issue at a later date and get back to me. That was 4 plus weeks ago. I am now trying again to solve this myself.
    I prefer not to loss my old back-ups, but I feel I may have no choice.
    Any idea's?

    Hi:
    The same problem. The log console shows I/O errors ONLY in something archives of another user. Removed files but after shows another files. Repaired permissions of both drives and single user boot and fsck not show any I/O. Even Techtool Deluxe not shows any error on surface disk.

  • Time's error with a metric for DashBoard in the WHERE Clause - @Prompt

    Hello,
    I have a problem with a measure in Universe. In the WHERE clause I have the typical @Prompt to interact with DashBoard:
    "Fact.Time_Key between @Prompt('BEGIN_DATE','D',,mono,free) And @Prompt('END_DATE','D',,mono,free)" *
    *Fact.Time_Key is a Date Field
    I check many options to solve the problem, which is: "The conversion of char data type to smalldatetime data type result in an out-of-range smalldatetime value." For example I saw many forums, I check the regional settings with IT and I also change the prm file that my universe's connection use but it still doesn't work.
    So I believe that the date format of my field (Fact.Time_Key) is different to @Prompt date format
    Any Suggestion?
    Regards
    Romá

    Hi Roman,
    I am not sure but I thought there was also a 'BEGIN_DATETIME' option

  • Time Machine errors with WD My Book Studio

    I upgraded the OS on my 1.66 GHz Mac Mini to 10.6 in January and purchased a 1TB WD My Book Studio external drive, to replace an older WD drive. The new drive was connected to the Mac via FireWire and reformatted for Mac OS extended before I copied my iPhoto and iTunes libraries from the older drive. I then set up Time Machine to backup to the new drive (a temporary arrangement until I'm able to purchase a new Mac later this year) without issue.
    Aside from the virtual CD occasionally popping up on my desktop, the drive worked fine for a couple of months.
    In March, the hard drive on the Mac crashed but was brought back to life at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store. After they reinstalled the OS, I restored my system from the most recent Time Machine backup and was back in business. It was not until I attempted to add songs in iTunes that I realized there were now permissions issues with the external drive -- which I (even with an administrator account) could not unlock. Disk Utility was unable to verify or repair the disk, though it did indicate problems with the drive.
    Support at WD was not helpful, so I had no choice but to erase and reformat the WD drive and start from scratch. The permissions issue was resolved, but every attempt at backing up via Time Machine failed (and subsequently froze my machine) after about 75 percent of the files had been copied. Furthermore, I could not successfully update the firmware OR software for the drive.
    I have since erased and reformatted (both in GUID at Apple Partition with both one and two partitions) the drive several times, and I have yet to back-up successfully. I was finally able to update the firmware/software and shut-off the WD SmartWare, even though it still appeared to be running; I eventually just uninstalled it completely.
    Right now, I am on my third attempt today to complete my initial Time Machine backup. Currently, the WD drive has an Apple Partition map scheme with two partitions and SmartWare uninstalled; it has taken me about 90 minutes to get 50 percent through an 80 GB backup, with nothing else running but this browser window.
    I've seen plenty of references to this sort of issue with WD drives across the Internet, but few resolutions -- and nothing that has helped me so far. Does anyone have some insight?

    Hi, and welcome to the forums.
    40 GB in 90 minutes isn't too bad, assuming it's F/W 400, not F/W 800. The speed may vary quite a bit during a backup, as a number of things have to be done for each file. When Applications and System folders are being backed-up, for example, the rate will be slower, since those folders consist of a huge number of mostly very small files.
    You might try the things in #D2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
    You might also want to see #A1 there; the +Time Machine Buddy+ widget may provide a clue.
    And yes, there are a lot of folks unhappy with WD drives, but also a number who swear by them.

  • Time Warp error with CS4

    Simply, everytime I add the Timewarp effect to my clip, it loses the last 3-4 seconds of footage.  It still registers just 11 seconds for the clip but the ending disappears, like it automatically got stretched.  Beyond that editing the clip appears fine.  I apply the slow-mo effect I want.  Its an unchanged movie file straight from my 60D.  Is there a conversion I should perform first?  Or is it just something stupid I missed?

    Agreed, was trying to get the basics of 1000fps slow-mo from 60fps with Time Warp down as I had planned to film some small sections of it soon. Going to try and find a all-around basic starting tutorial this weekend.
    That's not going to work very well. Think about it. You're asking software to analyze the movement of the pixels on a frame and create about 16 frames of smooth motion from every 2 frames of real motion. One second becomes about 16 seconds.
    If a thrown ball moves 200 pixels between two frames then you're asking software to divide that motion into 16 pieces, figure out which pixels are ball and which are background, redraw and reposition the ball accurately, replace the background, where the ball was, and do this without distortion that spoils the effect. It's not that it can't be done, it's just that you have to carefully plan, carefully photograph, and carefully tweak your footage to get it to work at that kind of a speed reduction.
    I'm not trying to throw water on your idea, just trying to give you some realistic expectations. Lots of action doesn't have to be slowed down that much to look very good.
    3rd party plug-ins like Re:Vision FX Twixtor do a better job, a significantly better job, but 1000 FPS video from 60 is very difficult, and depending on the motion, it can be impossible.

  • Weird error with taglib

    Hello, I'm getting this weird error. Sometimes when I'm using taglibs I get org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /mypage.jsp(11,4) According to TLD or attribute directive in tag file, attribute value does not accept any expressions. I refresh the page, and it displays, refresh again and the error is there again, this keeps happening randomly.
    In this post I found a solution http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=683007&messageID=9423383, changing the taglib to the "_rt" works, but some guy says this is not a preferred solution.
    This is my code without the "fix":
    <%@page contentType="text/html"%>
    <%@page pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
    <%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c"%>
    <%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/fmt" prefix="fmt"%>

            <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
            <title><fmt:message key="appTitle"/></title>
        </head>
        <body>
            <h3><fmt:message key="news"/></h3>
            <c:forEach items="${model.news}" var="news">
                <p>
                    <strong><c:out value="${news.title}"/></strong> - <i> <fmt:formatDate value="${news.daten}" pattern="dd/MM/yyyy"/> </i> - <a href="<c:url value="deleteNews.htm?newsId="/><c:out value="${news.id}"/>">Delete</a> - <a href="<c:url value="editNews.htm?newsId="/><c:out value="${news.id}"/>">Edit</a> <br>
                    <c:out value="${news.content}"/><br>
                    <small>Source:<c:out value="${news.source}"/></small>
                </p>
            </c:forEach>
            <a href="<c:url value="addNews.htm"/>">Add News</a>
        </body>
    </html>How can I fix this issue using the normal taglibs?
    Thanks in advance

    You seem to be mixing the versions of JSTL taglibs in your page.
    For the c taglib you are using the JSTL1.1 URI
    For the fmt taglib you are using the JSTL1.0 URI
    Change the import line to use the JSTL1.1 URI, and you should be set
    <%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/fmt" prefix="fmt"%>
    (note the subtle change with /jsp in there)
    As I mentioned in the other post, use of the _rt taglib should be restricted to JSP1.2 containers (eg Tomcat4)
    In JSP2.0 containers (Tomcat5+) you should use JSTL1.1, and it should work perfectly, provided your web.xml file is up to date.
    Some other posts on the subject you might find useful, that explain why the JSTL1.0 tags did not accept runtime expressions:

  • Language setting changed by fmt:formatDate

    I found out, that JSTL tag <fmt:formatDate> changes language settings of jsp page
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1250"%>
    <%
    out.println(response.getCharacterEncoding());     // windows-1250
    %>
    <fmt:formatDate ...
    <%
    out.println(response.getCharacterEncoding());     // ISO-8859-2
    %>
    </body>
    </html>
    I did some attempts. I had partial success by using
    <fmt:setLocale value="cs_CZ"> (czech), but
    response.getCharacterEncoding()
    still returns ISO-8859-2 and that causes another trouble
    (in TopLink/ADF data controls, which we use).
    I found out, that in Tomcat it can be solved by editing CharsetMapperDefault.properties in
    catalina.jar. But we are using OC4J in JDeveloper (10.1.2) and finally our application will be deployed
    on OracleAS 10g. Does somebody know solution ? Thanks.

    I want to change into Korean, but I don't know if it support Korean as language option
    It should support Korean and should also change to Korean if your OS changes to Korean. Have you perhaps removed any language support? Some people do this to save space.
    You can try this app:
