TimeCapsule w/o Internet

I'm trying to back up my TimeCapsule, but don't have one of the Internet connections they mention. I'm using a Verizon Wireless USB and none of those are listed. Although there is an Airport option on the Verizon setup I haven't been able to get it to work with TC.
When I get one set up, the other doesn't work.
Is there a simple way to use TC to back up my Mac using just the Ethernet cable?
OR, is it possible to use TC as a regular hard drive, then drag my files to it to copy them?
This is the most confusing piece of equipment I've ever used.
Michele

I'm using a Verizon Wireless USB and none of those are listed.
By "Verizon Wireless USB" do you mean that Verizon has provided you with a modem that only provides a USB interface to connect a computer to? Regardless, can you provide the model number of this device?
You can use the TC to both for Time Machine backups and for file storage and it does not need to be connected to the Internet to do so.

  • Using the TimeCapsule disk without internet

    Hi!
We have a wireless setup with the main provider being an Airport Extreme (connected to the router) and and Airport Express (n) that extends the signal. We have however also a 1TB timecapsule directly connected to two different macs. Can we use the Timecapsule disk without being connected to the wireless spot (airport extreme). In some cases the Airport Extreme goes down and doing so it also drags the TC downs with it. We just want to use the TC as a shared disk connected to two/three computers via the ethernet ports on the TC. How can we do this? When we turn of the wireless the TC disk does not show up and the TC goes yellow...Im posting a screenshot (Norwegian). Hope someone understands what we are trying to achieve:

    Many thanks in advance!

I think you can just go to the wireless tab and turn it off in wireless mode. It should continue to work fine over ethernet. You won't be able to control it from a wireless computer then unless you have the ethernet tied to one of your other ports.
Here's what I would do. Set up the TC in "bridge" mode. This way, all ports then become ethernet switch ports (no WAN-LAN) function. Turn the wifi off. Then connect an ethernet cable from the Airport Extreme BS to the TC. Then you'll be able to see the TC from any wireless connected computer but if the WiFi network goes down then you'll be OK.

  • Windows laptops interfere with Timecapsule wireless network

Anyone who could help me with this problem I'd be very indebted to!
I set up my timecapsule to work as a wireless base station using all the standard settings. Works fine with my MBP and iPhone. But whenever my flatmates (who are using Vista and XP SP2) switch on their computers and connect to the internet I loose my connection to the timecapsule and the internet. Airport utility won't even recognise it as being present. As soon as they stop using the internet my connection is restored and everything works fine. I can't work out why it's happening. Tried changing channels, security protocols, upgrading and downgrading firmware, but no joy. Do I have a dud timecapsule?

Interesting... I just posted my wifi connectivity problem with my iMac, and I did have a similar symptom yesterday after I reset my Time Capsule. The problem seemed resolved, I had a solid connection, and that lasted a while. And then my daughter, who had been off her computer, signed on to the network with her MacBook. Then my connection issues started up again. Since her computer is usually on and connected, I had not had this symptom come up before.
When I get home I'll have to try to recreate this condition and see if my connection works as long as my iMac is the only thing connecting wirelessly. I know your iPhone can connect along with your Mac, but hmm...

  • How to change Cisco EPC2425 into bridge mode

    Hi,
I need help regarding how to chage ECP2425 into bridge mode. I have Wireless NAS drive router which has its own DHCP and NAT service. At the moment my Wireless Timecapsule (NAS Drive) is in bridge mode and connected to EPC2425 with ethernet cable. Everything is fine. But in order to access my timecapsule over the internet, I need to use its (timecapsule)'s NAT service. For this, I need to put EPC2425 which is my first point of access from internet, into bridge mode or atleast disabled its (EPC2425) NAT service. Unfortunately, I am not been able to find NAT or Bridge mode option on EPC2425. I will appreciate if anyone can help me out in this case. I need to change my EPC2425 router into bridge mode or gateway mode.
    Thank you very much

    Hi Azhar,
Thank you for your question.  However, this community is for Cisco Small Business Products and the DPC/EPC2425 is not a Cisco Small Business Product.
Your product is an internet service provider (ISP) supported product.  In other words you need to contact your ISP or technology reseller that you purchased this from to help you with your question.

  • Extended Airport network

    A=TimeCapsule connected to Internet
B= AirportExtreme, connected to A, secondary station
    C= AirportExpress, new secondary station
    According Apple  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259?viewlocale=en_US
any secondary station must connect to the primary base station, hence to A
    Problem:
when for C the signal of B is stronger than from A, then C connects with B. So connection is A -> B -> C.
When this happens C becomes useless, even when its LED turns green. Any device, even when in closest neighbourhood of C, does not connect with C, it tries with B or even A if possible.
C could connect with A, but B overrides with better signal strength and establishes the connection.
How can I force  a network where C connects with A, not B?

@Tesserax - I am sure you are correct. I ran iStumbler on one of my MacBooks and found that in the area of the house where the AXn is located, signal strength from the AEBSn was somewhat weak - around 35% or so on both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands, with a good deal of noise from external sources (neighbors' phones and access points, etc.).
It's a bit of a quandary as I'd also like to have the AXn located near a sound system in that part of the house for Airtunes. BTW, streaming over Airtunes (via iTunes or Airfoil) works, but the noise will occasionally knock it out for a few seconds as well. The noise spikes are clearly visible in iStumbler.
I see that the only iron-clad solution is to run an Ethernet cable from the AEBSn to the AXn, but unfortunately that entails a nasty trip into the crawl space under the house, which just creeps me out - all that fiberglas, dirt and spider webs - yuck! It might be worth it in the end, as it would certainly do the job.
For right now, I am just using the AXn for Airtunes, joined to but not extending the network. I'll crawl under the house when the weather is hot and I've had a few beers...

  • Losing back to my mac connection

When away from my homenet, I can always reach my TimeCapsule from the Internet, and sometimes even my computers. After a while though, I loose the connection to the computers, but I am still connected to the TC. At home, I restart " Back to my Mac" and then it works for a while again. What to do?

Same problem just with my new retina. The old MBP was ok.

  • Can timecapsule be access as a HDD without internet connection?

I am currently stationed overseas with the military right now and i just got a 3TB Time Capsule set out to me. I've never owned a timecapsule before so i didnt know how to install or connect it. i do not have my own ISP out here nor do I have a modem to connect the time capsule to. at the present moment it is nothing more than and expensive paper weight. is there anyway I can connect the timecapsule to my laptop and use it as an external HDD to back up my movie files and pictures? My MacbookPro is running Leopard 10.X, cant remember which version exactly off the top of my head.

Not surprising that personal devices can't be hung off the military LAN, but that's fine. As we said, you do not need the Internet for your purposes here. If you have Time Machine working, that confirms that you are already using one of the right ports. I do not know of a way to use a Time Machine as a hard drive using anything other than Ethernet, and even then you have to use TCP/IP networking. But, that should work fine for your purposes. In other words, go into Airport Utility, Manual Setup, click Disks, click File Sharing, and Enable File Sharing.
After that, the TC should show up under Shared in the sidebar and you can mount it as a network hard drive, and copy any files to and from it. It won't work exactly like an external hard drive in that I don't think it can automount just by plugging it in, but once you connect to it, it will work a lot like an external hard drive. If you want to be secure about it, turn on Secure Shared Disks and shut off the Airport radio on the Time Capsule.
You will find that the operation of Time Capsule is separate from its operation as a network hard drive. They don't overlap. You can be using files off the TC server while Time Capsule is running a backup, and Time Capsule can mount its backup volume on its own.

  • Timecapsule kills internet/wifi connection, when starting backup?

Everytime my timecapsule start backing up, my wifi/internet connection is killed?
I still see my airport in the top bar wifi logo, but no internet connection
I have to restart timecapsule before i get my internet back
Im on a imac 27" fully upgraded with OSX Lion
    Anyone?

Unless you're backing up more than one device, a Time Capsule is a rather expensive Time Machine device.
That display shows that you're connecting over the 2.4 GHz band, which tends to be slower with an ideal connection, but tends to hold up better over distance and through interferences such as walls.
Is there any way you could connect your iMac to the Time Capsule with an Ethernet cable, at least long enough to run a test of a Time Machine backup.  Before you run such a test, be sure that there's an Ethernet connection item in the list in the Network panel of System Preferences.  To assure that you're using the Ethernet connection, you might also want to turn off the iMac's Wi-Fi feature.
Still another option might be PowerLine equipment.  For less than the cost of an AirPort Extreme you could have near-Ethernet speeds without the need for a cable.

  • TimeCapsule a wireless HardDrive w/out connectiont from internet?

Another Question to Add: Can I connect an additional Hard Drive to the TimeCapsule USB port to make it wireless as well? I'm not so interested in it Backing up in intervals as I am it being a sufficient device for storing data as any other Hard Drive does. Thank you.

So, do you plan on having your Time Capsule connected to your network at all? It's possible to have it act as a wireless HDD without being connected to the internet, but you need to connect to the network it broadcasts every time you want to access it. You can't be on a separate wifi network and connected to the Time Capsule at the same time as far as I know (somebody correct me if this isn't right). If you could, would you provide some more details about your setup? Thx.
And yes, any USB disks attached to the Time Capsule will be accessible wirelessly as well.

Recurring "connection failed" when selecting TimeCapsule in the sidebar (internet connection works fine).  Clicking "Connect As" starts the cyle over again but ends in "There was a problem connection to the server" message.  Only fix is resetting TC.
The TC is the wifi base station, also have AirportExpress on the network, both of which work fine.  The TC has an external disc connected as well, which is also visible in the sidebar but also cannot be connected to.  Several MB computers use the network, all of which either can or cannot connect to the TC disc depending on when it is acting up.
Any ideas other than clicking "connect as" or powering down the network every time?

Read up how to install 5.6 utility into ML.. it is pretty easy.
    I downloaded 5.6
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    Download unpkg
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Open the dmg to get the pkg.. drag it onto unpkg.. and it will create a directory under desktop with all the files.. drag the application to the utility directory.. or just run it direct.
Google if you want more explicit instructions.
Much easier with a real tool instead of a toy.
Hold the option key when you select firmware update.. all the old ones will appear.
But this will not work on newer Gen4.. only on every other model and early Gen4. .I do not know when they turned the corner and started this only 7.6 nonsense.

  • Can timecapsule be configured without internet connection?

Is it possible to connect and configure timecapsule wireless, i.e. without an ethernet cable to ADSL modem?

Are you asking if the Time Capsule can create a wireless network without having an Internet connection?
    or
Are you asking if the Time Capsule can connect to an existing wireless network using wireless only?
A few more details on exactly what you are trying to do will really help.

  • Ständige Aussetzer der Internet-Verbindung seit Anschluss meiner Timecapsule 2 TB

    Hallo

is it possible to access my TimeCapsule from outside my local network via internet? If so what is the best app  that  can help me?

    iCloud can do it..
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
You need Lion and latest firmware on the TC..
Were you hoping to use the ipad/iphone??  That maybe possible but I am not sure how.
You cannot use windows without opening SMB to some strange port and this is going to mess with security.. you also need a static ip address from your ISP.. most private net users do not have this.
You can do it via vpn.. you will need to buy a vpn router and bridge the TC to it.
Just google remote access time capsule.. there are a zillion posts about it.
