To Render or not to Render....

I am curious if you actually need to tell Final Cut Pro to render a movie, If I Export it doesn't it do a render automatically?... Is there any difference?
Also anyone who can answer my previous question will be a rock star!

Yes files will do any rendering needed when you export. In that case the render time is added to the export time.

To render, or not to render ... exporting to a Master File question.

What's the best workflow with regards to rendering? Specifically:
Will exporting to a Master File do exactly the same amount of rendering as selecting 'Render All', and then exporting to a Master File?
If so, if I render all my clips / transitions first and then export to a Master File, should it export very quickly (as no further rendering is required)? I appreciate this will use up more disk space as it will have to create all the render files, and then create a 'flattened' version of the whole project in the Master File.
If I've understood things correctly so far, is it generally best to render everything before exporting to a Master File? Otherwise if you had created the Master File from an un-rendered timeline, but then needed to tweak a tiny part of the project, you would have to re-render everything when exporting the Master File again?

I don't know to be honest I'm thrilled with the newfound speed of this machine, everything just happens so much faster! In the end I re-rendered my entire project, and what took almost 3 days of practically 24-hour rendering on my old laptop (running overnight, taking the computer to work with me and letting it run during the day), this new machine finished the whole thing in 3 hours!
By the way, I've been using the G-Drive Mini 1TB 7200rpm drives and find they perform extremely well over USB 3:

I don't have any multicam stuff in my project, but for general projects these drives should be absolutely fine.

Reporting Services Webpart - web part does not auto render consistantly

We are on SharePoint 2010 (integrated with Reporting Services)- on several sites we have added the Reporting Services Web Part and with a saved parameter. The behavior of this web part is not consistent. There are times when I open up a site
and the web part will auto render the report. 5 minutes later I can go into the same site, and the web part does not auto render the report. I have to do edit page, or close and re-open the web site. Has anyone experienced this type of behavior.
I've looked for assistance with this issue on-line cannot find anything that specifically addresses this issue.

If the parameters have default values in the report, then the report can be rendered automatically.
For this issue, I recommend to verify the things below:
Does this issue occur when you open the page with the web part in a new tab in the browser or go back to the previous opened tab?
Does this issue occur in the server side or client side?
Please add the site to trusted sites in Internet Explorer to see how it works.
Please change another browser to see how it works.
For narrowing down the issue scope, please test with another report and compare the results.

Force rendering of sequence that does not need render

I'm having a sequence where I'm applying Timecode Reader.
When playing it plays fine on computer screen and does not need any render.
I'm using the plugin WMV Studio HD from Flip4Mac. That works fine, but when I export the sequence using the plugin, the resulting .wmv is a clip that says "Unrendered". Fair enough, so how do I force FCP to actually render the timeline prior to exporting to .wmv?
One way is to create a self-contained QT file and then import that into a new sequence and export to .wmv, but it takes time and disk space.

Look at your menu Sequence/Render All and Sequence/Render Selection settings and make sure all the options are checked. Then type opt-r or select everything and type cmd-r...

Dreamweaver 8 - does not always render content correctly when element sizes are specified as %s

I'm using DW 8 and am changing CSSs to specify element sizes as %s - a move towards responsive design. Browsers that I've tried - Firefox, Chrome, IE and Safari - render the results correctly but DW does not always render correctly: it seems to have particular problems in calculating and showing margins and padding. Does anybody know whether this is a known fault? Am I asking too much of an old version of the system? Or am I missing something else somewhere along the way?

Yes, Dreamweaver design view, whilst quite good, did and still does not represent the css you write 100% accurately.
The more complex the css the less likely it is to render as you would expect.
I've come to rely less and less on design view over the past months as ways and means of producing websites advance leaving DW some way off the pace, it always has been.
I have not tested out CC2014 but would suspect its an improvement over past versions at showing css in design view but still behind the curve.

Got "Not enough render area" while generating report

I got the error "Not enough render area" while generating the report. I try to increase the paper size ,it works in word preview but not in the server. Is there any has resolved this kind of problem? Thanks in advance.

Particles (flame) bug? Export render differs from preview render.

I've added a particle emitter (Pyro -> Flame) to my movie. It all looks fine in the Preview window. But when I render (export) the final movie the flame comes out differently. Some frames contain large grey parts that seem to appear out of nowhere. Here some frames from my video. The upper part is the view in Motion's Preview window, the lower part is how it is rendered.
I've tried exporting to several output formats, including the lossless ProRes formats. I also used several rendering settings, both in the Export dialog and the upper-right Preview window settings menu. Nothing solves this problem.
Does anybody know how to fix this? Motion isn't very usable this way. I'm using Motion 5.2 on Yosemite 10.10.3 on a MBP 13 Retina, late 2013.

Hello all and thanks for the tips. I really appreciate your help. After having it work sometimes and sometimes not, I definitely checked most everything you all mentioned. I really thought the answer shouuld have been in the areas you all pointed to... but I got lucky and found it somewhere else... maybe this was a newbie thing, but I'm willing to swallow my pride and cough it up...
My file was created from following Creative Cow's "reflection" tutorial step by step... in the tutorial, you "pre-compose" your text layer and create another layer below it. This other layer becomes your reflection.
Here's what was happening:
When I export to .swf, if I am viewing the pre-composed layers in the "comp" viewing area, I will get the red hue around stuff during the render, but not in the preview. If I switch from the pre-composed layers, back to the main layers, and view the main "comp" at the highest level and then render, I get a perfect render... make sense? perhaps it was human error... I just felt that the render would always look like what you are previewing. Make sure you render from the main layers and not while still looking at a pre-composed layer...

12 core Mac Pro does not improve render time over iMac quad core

I'm rendering the same composition independently on two computers and they are basically rendering at the same rate, which is slightly better than 1 frame per second.
The project settings and preferences are identical in each instance (with the exception of memory and multiprocessing, which I have experimented with ad nauseum). The composition includes no motion blur, no effects, just a couple of layers of chroma keyed .mov files (using keylight 2.0) and some still images. Neither machine is running any other applications, except occasionally Google Chrome, which seems to have no effect on performance.
Both systems are running the latest version of After Effects CC (2014) and using the Classic 3D renderer.
System 1 MAC PRO:
Mac Pro 12 core 2.7 GHz Intel Xeon E5
dual AMD FirePro 500D 3072 MB GPUs
32 GB RAM
OS X 10.9.4
System 2 iMAC:
iMac quad core 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB GPU
8 GB RAM
OS X 10.9.3
As you can see, system 1 is vastly more powerful, and yet no combination of memory/multiprocessing settings can get the system to render faster than system 2.
It doesn't seem to matter how much or little RAM I reserve for other applications (I have settled on 4 GB), or the number of CPUs I reserve for After Effects. The one setting that has improved performance is turning OFF render multiple frames. And even then it only brings the performance of the Mac Pro up to par with the iMac. I have cleared my cache, rebooted the computer, and read everything I can find online regarding the optimization of render settings.
Here's a comparison of the respective CPU Loads:

With such a low CPU load, After Effects is obviously not utilizing the resources available to it on the Mac Pro. What a waste.

There's plenty of debate about the new Mac Pro vs a kitted out iMac. Benchmarks show that some iMac After Effects processing can actually be faster than on a Mac Pro, depending on the content and some other factors. If you're using software that has been optimised for the Mac Pro's GPU-centric architecture, like Final Cut Pro X, you will see great benefits.

In my own facility recently we opted out of purchasing Mac Pros this year, and bought top-end iMacs instead. The benefit to cost ratio simply didn't make sense for us right now. Mac Pros are awesome machines, but a significant component of their cost is the dual GPUs, which are simply no benefit to After Effects.
Reports say that the After Effects engineers are working on a major revamp of the After Effects processing system, so I'm betting you will realise far greater benefits from your Mac pro in coming AE versions. For now, you may continue to see performance that is not spectacularly better than a souped-up iMac, depending on the type of processing involved.
I've seen a few benchmarks that suggest the 8 core systems give better bang-for-buck than the 12 cores. Try reducing your processors to 8 in After Effects and see if it makes a difference. With 8 cores, allocate 3GB of RAM per core to leave some RAM for the OS.

Maximum Render Quality not installed

I am using Premiere Pro CS4 and did not see the Use Maximum Render Quality when exporting a video, my only choices are "Use Preview Files", "Include Source XMP MetaData", and "File Info".
I found one post that said it was in a update so I checked my verison and it said 4.0.0. I then checked for updated from the Help menu and ran that. version did not change and still no Max Render Quality so I found the download for PP CS4 4.2.1 and downloaded and unsipped it.
When I ran the EXE file it started but then stopped and said "Cannot Install click the Quite button". In the text of the window is said everything for 4.2.1 was installed except the language packs. Verson number is still 4.0.0.
What else can I try?

on the reinstall and updates, does the last update (4.2.1) for Premiere Pro CS4 have all the updated combined or do I need to run them one at a time?
also does the Encore update (4.0.1) run or included with the Premiere updates?
I will do this starting monday, i hope to have this 2,000 ft project done tonight so I can deliver it tomorrow but will keep my data and rerun it after the update if Max Render shows up

JSF Design View broken? Fallback Rendering, "Render Kit" not found

Hi,
I just wanted to toy around with JDeveloper 11g TP3, created a new project, added technology scope JSF (+ JSP/Servlets, etc.) then the tag-library ADF Faces Component 11-ji3.
Then I created a data control from a POJO and wanted to visualize this within a JSF page. So I created one (via faces-config visual editor), dragged the appropriate getter-method to the page in the up-to-this-point working WYSIWYG editor, selected ADF-read-only-form and suddenly found myself in the JSF "alternate rendering" (a view like in an hierachical XML editor). I enabled "design time messages in log" to see what the problem was.
Stopping/Starting JDeveloper or removing tag libraries like suggested in other threads did not work. I was unable to reactivate the wysiwyg editor for this page or any new JSF page in this application, always the "alternate rendering".
Log said "oracle.sql.OraData" was missing, so I added ojdbc6.jar to the project classpath. Didn't help, no wysiwyg editor, log now says:

thanks for the reply. I will try what you suggested, but the trinidad-config.xml is actually not missing in my project, although it does not include a render kit definition.
As my first step with 11g I also tried one of the tutorials (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/ejb/ejb.html) and there the wysiwyg was working nicely the whole time.
In both cases (my project == not working wysiwyg editor, tutorial == nicely working wysiwyg editor) the content of the trinidad-config.xml is the same:

Trying to render, get "Not Found" mesages

Seems like I've had this problem years ago, but I can't remember what caused it.
I have a section with 3 video tracks, 2 of which are nested sequences. When I try to render, it will render a portion of it if I hit "cancel", but if I try to render the whole section there is a message that says "not found" and nothing else was rendered.
I also saw "General Error" once or twice.
Any idea how I can fix this?

What format are you sources and what are your sequence settings? I assume your nests' settings match the containing sequence (but if not, let us know).
You might try rendering within the nest and see if that's successful.

Group tree does not always render data in ActiveX viewer

We are using Crystal XI R2 and the RDC/ASP interface to render reports in the ActiveX viewer. The web server is a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit machine.
Yes, I know it is not supported but I was hoping someone may have a workaround.
We got the ActiveX viewer to render by making the noted fix to rptserver.asp but the problem we are now facing is that on certain reports, the group tree pane will not render all the data properly and comes up blank. The main report pane is no problem and displays the data fine. The problem seems to be related to the amount of data that the group tree pane is displaying and some reports will render it properly whereas others will not.
Anyone seen a similar problem before and have any clues as to how to correct it?

If as a test if you filter the data so there is less of it, does the group tree pane appear on these reports?
Make sure the 'DisplayGroupTree' property is not set to False.

Final render does not replicate what is on canvas

I am creating a highlight reel for a a football player. In order to make the video easy to understand i created a circular highlight to follow the player in the clip. I used the "shape" option and animated with setting keyframes in the motion tab. What i see in the canvas is exactly what i want. However, When i render it out the "circle" does not follow the player as it does when i play it back in the canvas......I tried different render settings and nothing does the job. Please advise to me why it is doing this. The project is complete..... i just cant get it to render the way it should.
This project is due tomorrow and i have never had issues like this before.

Try using the "classic" PrintToPDF @ http://www.jwwalker.com/pages/pdf.html
This way you will be creating a PDF file using classic instead of OS X's Print To PDF.

M/AMC - "Ad Render" Functionality not working...

System:- SAP IS-M/AMC (Media & Advertisement - Classified)
The landscape of my setup of M/AM & M/AMC is on the same server and I could very well create a simple order and compose a simple ad and save it.
While booking a classified advertisement and choosing a predefined template of "REAL ESTATE" we tried using option -- in the UI Editor Menu, Ad -> "RENDER" the text is not getting updated in the editing area.
Where could be the problem, please revert ASAP.
