To those who have upgraded their Hard Drives...
Did you ever have to disable the sudden motion sensor on the MacBook Pro, so that your new hard drive would work properly?
I would imagine if the hard drive makers had this conflicting feature, Mac OS X would disable in favor of its own sudden motion sensor during installation.
Would love to hear from Hitachi 500 GB, 7,200 RPM and Seagate Momentus users?
I can't see any specific mention on that page or in their own tech specs sheet ... the only way to be certain is to phone OWC I'd guess.
It's 50% more than the Seagate and doesn't perform any better in most benchmarks are you sure you want that brand ?

Question to those who have upgraded to a G4 chip .
Hey everyone I am upgrading my Lombard (got a slot load cd burner with dvd player ordered for it and getting more ram next check ) and I want to know to those who have upgraded their 500 pismos to the 550 G4 could you really tell a difference from when you had the G3 from the G4 . Like in watching videos on youtube for instance . I am really thinking about this upgrade for my next project .
Video does work better, but the old ATI video chips are the same so it won't be a night-and-day type of difference. Things that use the vector processing (Altivec) in the G4 should show the most difference, like encoding audio and exporting video.

I have 5 computers authorized to use my iTunes. 2 of those computers do not exist and have had their hard drives destroyed. How do I remove those computer from my iTunes account?
Begin by opening the iTunes program and going to the iTunes Store via the iTunes Store button in the top right.
Once you're at the iTunes Store, click on the Sign In button at the top left corner (if you're not signed in) or on your account name in the same location (if you're already signed in).
This will bring you to your iTunes account. In the top box, you'll see a section labelled Computer Authorizations towards the bottom. Next to it is a button that reads Deauthorize All. Click it.
A window will pop up asking you to confirm that this is what you want to do. Continue.
In just a few seconds, all 5 computers on your account will be deauthorized.
Now, re-authorize just the computers that you still use and you'll be all set. -
Who has had their Hard Drive replaced before!?

I just had mine replaced. My apps were all running fine. The main tell I have noticed as my dorm tech guy is unusual noises coming from the drive. If a higher pitched sound is coming from the left side then normal, it seems to be reading and writting when not in use, or like mine it sounded like a buzz saw was running, then likely a hard drive problem. Luckily for me I had 17 days left on my apple care, but a new hard drive shouldnt cost to much, and if your familiar with taking apart computers you can do it yourself...

i no longer have any of my songs, ringtones, apps, photos etc, on my macbook anymore due to a SSD upgrade. i did not want to back up any files from the old hard drive as some were corrupt and i did not want that to transfer over to my new hard drive so i started from fresh. what i would like to know is, if i now sync my iphone with itunes, am i going to lose all the content on my iphone because there is nothing to sync it with or, will it transfer all the files onto my computer and i will have them again? or is there a way to do that before i sync and lose everything i have gained on the phone?

It's called "iTunes". Connect the phone, but do not sync, when it appears in iTunes choose "transfer purchases..." from the iTunes File menu. -
How can you hardcode/force that when a slide within a slide library (in Sharepoint 2010) is updated, that an alert is sent to the user who downloaded the slide to their hard drive so that they may replace the outdated slide with the recently
updated slide. There is a tic box option to set when downloading slides from a sharepoint slide library into power point that ensures alerts are sent when the presentation is opened allowing for replacement of the slide. But, it is an option. How can that

Add the network folder location as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings and then see if the videos will play.
If the first suggestion doesn't work, get in touch with your network admin dudes and find out if FLV files are disabled from working over the network from that location. Many times unless a given file format is enabled on a network, the server assumes it's not desirable and won't serve it. -

I would take a look at the internal drives offered by both Crucial (click the link "Internal Hard Drives Now Available") and OWC. I would stay away from Western Digital drives as they seem to have problems on a number of Mac models.
You can also shop for RAM at Crucial and OWC - just select the System Scanner tab at the Crucial website to find out which memory is right for your machine.

I have an external hard drive 1 TB - it says that 559GB has been used , but I can't see any files at all.
Is there a way to recover those files. I have a lot of photos on it. I have an IMac and running MAC OSX versuib 10.7.5 I am new to Mac, so I hope somebody can give me some advice.

I have a rather old iMac 20" (mid 2007) and I want to upgrade the Hard drive. How do I change it? How do I transfer all my applications? May I just copy the old hd into the new one? Thanks.
There are many online tutorials on how to change out the HD on a mid 2007 iMac. One of the originals is from 2007 and is Upgrade your iMac 20" or iMac 24" aluminum (mid 2007) to 1TB Hard Drive and 4 GB RAM - DIY Guide. As far as migrating your system Apple helps out with that in Setup Assistant which automatically starts when you turn on a new Mac for the first time. After you have installed the new HD you will have to format the new HD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then you will have to install OS X. The first time you turn it on Setup Assistant will start. Follow the directions and you will be fine. In order to restore your information you will need to backup what is on the current internal HD first. I'd recommend using Time Machine (Assuming you are using Leopard or later) AND also creating a bootable clone using either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
Please complete your profile so at the very least we know what version of OS X your machine has installed. -

My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps. I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them. The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage. It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup. With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up. The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete. This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems. -
I have 2011 iMac it came with os x 10.6.6 i just upgraded the hard drive and now i cannot install OS X 10.6.6 every time i start installing after selecting the language it come up with error " OS X can't be installed on this mac " please help
Be sure to start your iMac using its original grey System Install DVD: Insert that disc and start your Mac while holding the d key. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen select Disk Utility and format the hard disk. Select "Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)".
Then, install OS X. -
I am running Snow Leopard on my iMac and have partitioned my hard drive to run Windows XP. If I upgrade to Yosemite, will I still be able to run XP?

Current versions of Fusion and Parallels are compatible with Yosemite. Both are applications which you only run when you want to run Windows within them. As such, there's no effect on computer performance when they're not in use. Like any other software, there is some additional load on your Mac when both Windows and the Mac OS are running together, but any noticeable effect depends on what each is being expected to do and what resources (e.g. available RAM and the number of CPU cores) you can devote to each.
I think there's less chance of HD corruption with a VM than there is with running Windows natively on the Mac in Boot Camp. Consider that, with a VM, you can create Snapshots of the state of your VM at a given time, and then, if something goes wrong (virus, malware, software installations), you can simply restore the Snapshot in a matter of seconds and eliminate the problems in the process. Moreover you can make a backup copy of the entire VM file, and replace a later version if you wish. Also consider that you can assign, say, 100GB of HD space to the VM, but the actual space devoted to the VM is only what's actually used; as more is needed, more is made available and Windows can't tell the difference. So, for example, my Win 7 Pro VM has an 80 GB virtual HD but only takes up 45 GB on my SSD, and that's with XP Mode in VPC installed inside it.
Microsoft no longer supports XP, though virus signature updates are still being issued. But MS has installed a pop-up message about EOL that won't go away (it's installed with KB2934207). Even if you remove that KB in Add and Remove Software, the pop-up continues. But if you have a Snapshot or a backup which is prior to it's original installation, you can skip installing KB2934207, and suppress it's reappearance on a Software Update list. -
Per Adobe website, a download for Acrobat 9 for Mac is "not available." What alternative does Adobe offer to those who have bought and paid for Acrobat and now have computers without optical drive to install that previously purchased software? Buy a PC? Buy an external CD drive? Is the answer really "too bad"?

I upgraded to OS8 for my Iphone 5 and now I have no access to e-mail and several apps. How can I address this problem? For those who have an iphone 5 I recommend not upgrading to the new OS until these bugs are resolved.
I foolishly downloaded OS8 on my iPhone 4S. It not only greyed out my wifi button making it impossiblr to use wifi, but bluetooth connection doesn't work either. I reset the phone to factory settings but that did nothing apart from loose all my photos and contacts. OS 8 was still on after too. Apple say it is a problem but the download only brought the fact the hardware was faulty to the fore, but not being under warranty , the repair would cost £166 that I would have to pay. Totally unacceptable. If the problem was known and they knew it would cause problems on older models, why have it bob up on iTUNES for download.
Don;t download it guys, APPLE aren't admitting culpability and it will cost you a fortune to put right!! -
