To use the "Users & Groups" preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen.

When I try to access some of the system preferences in Mavericks I get an error pane that states "To use the “Users & Groups” preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen."
Has anybody had this problem and if so what is the fix?

Usually happens if you opened one that was 32-bit. Then, you need to revert back to 64-bit.

This is a shot in the dark, but try this:
log-in to your iCloud account with your Apple ID
    change your password
ensure your billing information is up-to-date
attempt to re-enable your Keychain (again)

  • System preferences must quit and reopen 32-bit unchecked

    Hello,
Whenever i try to open Network, users&groups... i get this message "To use the “name of pane” preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen."
I've already checked that 32-bit mode is unchecked I've tried repairing disk permissions with no luck so far.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance. You can skip this step if you don't care about the data that hasn't been backed up.
Reinstall the OS.* Your data should be unaffected unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.

  • System Preferences "Must Quit and Reopen" No "Open in 32-bit" Option to Uncheck

Everything worked fine when I had 10.7. But I still updated to 10.8 when it came out. I spent quite a while trying to figure out why I couldn't use many of the preferences in the system preferences. I kept getting the message: "To use the ____ preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen." Quitting and reopenning sends me on an infinite loop.
I've scowered the support communities and found no help. The communities kept saying I should go to the System Preferences file in Applications, go to Get Info, and uncheck a box that says "Open in 32-bit Mode." Unfortunately, I have never had that box. Today I updated to 10.8.4, hoping that this would finally get fixed. It was not.
Is there any solution I'm missing?

    Just got same problem.
#1. There is no Box, under Label or anywher to uncheck or check.
#2. The device I want to use does not have an update driver. What I really need if for the Box to check or uncheck which should be there according to Apple Help.
#3. I tried this, resetting the whole computer's kernal extension by using a Terminal command (although I don't like doing that). It didn't work. sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386
So I reset it to: sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64
But emphasize, again, I don't like doing SUDO commands in Terminal.
    So...Anything else to try?
Thanks for any info that might help.

  • System Preferences saying it needs to "quit and reopen".

    Hello!
So, I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard, and re-installed pretty much everything. The only thing I imported from 10.5 was the Perian PrefPane, because it was a modified version that allows you to chagne the size of the subtitles.. some dude gave me the link once and I can't find it (the link) again.
Anyway, When I open System Preferences, if I click on any other prefpane it just opens it normally. If I click on Perian, it says: (please see the image on the link.. I'm not really sure on how to attach the image here) http://grab.by/1Nho
Then, when I click "ok", it quits, reopens, and takes me to the PrefPane.
Any ideas on how to remove this behavior?
I already tried 'getting info' on the prefpane file (and the package contents) and changing to 'read&write'.. didn't work.
    Thanks for the help!

this happens because the preference pane is written in 32-bit and system preferences runs in 64-bit by default. so it needs to quit and restart in 32-bit every time you do this. you can set System preferences to always open in 32-bit. there is really no benefit in running it in 64-bit anyway.
go to the main Applications folder, select System preferences and enter command+i. in the popup check the box "open in 32 bit". that's it.

I'm trying to use the Find My Iphone app to track my MacBook but i cannot find the icloud icon in my system preferences. Is it true that I have to buy the latest software up-date before i can do this. I can't believe that PC users can get it for free and Mac users have to pay for it.

  • Is there a way to give a local user permission to add a local user using the local group policy editor?

I need to find a way to have the local administrator of a Windows Server 2012 system grant a local user (non-administrator) the ability to add a user for the machine using the local group policy editor. The machine is not part of any Active Directory environment,
this is strictly on the one machine.  In my situation it is not an option to just make the user an administrator. The idea is to give someone the right to add a user and have no other such administrative rights. I need to accomplish this using the
Local Group Policy editor or the Group Policy Management Console if it is possible to do this outside of an active directory environment. This is not an assignment to learn how to use these tools and I am not even sure if it would even be possible though I
need to either find a way or find proof that it is not possible using these applications.

    Hi,
    Sorry for the delay reply.
So did you want to non-admin user have the ability to add another user?
As far as i know, we cannot add the user if we have no local admin permission, we will receive the error"Access denied".

I recently purchased a used imac with os 10.6 The problem I am having the admin in accounts in system preferences I would like to change so I can download some items I have tried different things  to do this but I cannot figure it out. thanks in advance.

Thats the problem I bought it from a very large thrift store. i went back asked the person where I bought the computer he said we can not give you the password. I thought buying it there was a good idea because not only was it a nice deal but it was like I was maknig a donation. I know that i messed up because i do not have the installation disk. I bought it without thinking. Until recently I was still using an old G4 9.0 os. I guess you can say I have been out of the loop for a while.

  • Where is the User Group stored

    Hi all
I have a question about the User Groups.
I want to know where are the User Groups and their information stored in Business Objects.
Is there a system table from where I can access/pull this information.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
You can use the Query Builder (on the BusinessObjects Administration Launchpad under Administrative Tools) to query the CMS database.
The following query would return some details of all user groups in your system:
    SELECT
    SI_NAME, SI_DESCRIPTION, SI_ID, SI_ALIASES, SI_GROUP_MEMBERS
    FROM
    CI_SYSTEMOBJECTS
    WHERE
    SI_KIND = 'usergroup'
You can find documentation on querying the CMS in the Developer Library:
    http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/devsuite.htm#en/BOE_SDK/boesdk_java_dg_doc/doc/boesdk_java_dg/SDKFundamentals34.html#1033059
[Dev Library Home|http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/devsuite.htm] > Enterprise SDK > Java Developer Guide > SDK Fundamentals > How do I use the query language to retrieve classes from the CMS repository?

  • How to hide iviews based on the user groups?

    Hi,
I have a custom role with workset, page and iviews.
    The page has 5 iviews.
User group1 can see 5 iviews in the page.
Now user group2 wants see only 3 iviews in the page (same role).
Without creating another role for user group2, How can I hide the iviews based on the user group?
    Is this possible?
    Thanks
    Sundar

    Hi Sundar,
I guess to achieve this, you have to set the permissions at iView level.
For this, go to System Admin -> Permissions -> Portal Permissions. Now navigate to your iView using the folder structure, do right-click on the iView and click on Open Permissions.
Search for the particular group and add that and assign the privileges accordingly. You can remove Everyone group from the iView .
Hope this will solve your problem.

    Hello all,
I am trying to Populate the user group instead of the group ID in MFA. I want to use this to create authorization permissions, after authentication. I am running into the problem of not getting any info after authentication in the attribute dump.  Are
there settings that I can change in order to Populate the attribute dump? are there settings that I can change to get all of the groups that each user is in?

  • Is there a way I can permanently disable the security lock thing in System Preferences?

Aside from logging and using the root account on a daily basis, is there a way to permanently be rid of the security lock thing in System Preferences?
Yosemite has a bug (?) where if an Admin account has its password set to blank (empty), you can't remove the security lock...
You can click it, it'll ask for Username and Password (Why?), and when you click on 'Unlock', it unlocks for a brief moment and instantly locks itself again...
This is beyond infuriating. Do advise.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  However I'm quite aware that the sleep/wake button disables the screen.  Unfortunately, mea maxima culpa, I sometimes accidentally hit shuttle before I've pressed the sleep/wake button, often when I am trying to do more than one thing at once.  Sometimes I accidentally hit shuffle at other times too,eg when waking up the phone.
This is especially exasperating when listening to classical pieces with multiple movements.  I will look for an alternative music player for the iphone, as I don't think the default music application and I are a good match.
    Thanks again,
    Tim Blackwell
