TOC Entry Formatting Error

Worked through the online help at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/indesign/cs/etc., and all has fallen into place except for the formatting of the entries within the table of contents itself.
There are two levels of main text: chapter and section. Each has its own style. There is a separate style of TOC entry for each level. In Layout | TOC table, each entry style is selected for the respective level in "Include Paragraph Styles".
In the actual table of contents, the entry is shown formatted according to the main text level rather than the entry style, except for one section header, whose TOC entry is formatted correctly. All other section headings are formatted the same. I xcannot detect any difference in the way that individual heading is formatted.

That's correct.
Now about your TOC problem....
Every single bit of text in that test file has both a paragraph style and a charcter style applied, and in some cases a local override as well. This tells me that you really don't understand how styles are used in ID. All text is auotmaitcally styled with a paragraph style (Basic Paragraph if you don't designate something else). This paragraph style should set the specifications COMPLETELY for how paragraphs of that type should look so that no further modifications need to be made. If you need another "look" for a different paragraph, you define another style. You can base one style on another, and those arrtibutes that are not changed will update if you edit the base style.
Character styles are used to change the appearance of "special case" text within a larger paragraph, not to define the way an entire paragraph should appear (see above). Character styles are not considered "overrides" of paragraph style formatting, so they are not automatically removed when you change paragraph styles, even if you choose to remove overrides. This is the problem in your TOC -- the correct paragraph styles are being assigned, but because the text being picked up carries character styles, those character styles are still being applied in the TOC, and in some cases local formatting is being picked up as well (you'll see the telltale + after a stylename when that happens).
Bottom line, you need to remove the character styles and local formatting from the paragraphs in the book, and then the TOC should format correctly.

  • Formatting error in the field COBL-GSBER - FF_5 Upload

    Hi Experts,
When I upload the bank statement in FF_5, I am getting the following error.
"Error: (00 298) Formatting error in the field COBL-GSBER ; see next message"
If I make the field "Businees Area" Optional in Field Status Group of the "Bank Main Accout", then I am not getting the above error and the posting also happens to the "Bank Main Account".
But if I make "Business Area" Required Entry Field then I get the above error.
Is there any other method to rectify this problem, i.e can this be resolved even after keeping Business Area as a required field.
    Pl advice.
    Rgds,
    Prasad.

    Hi,
I hope making Business area optional field is not a wise decision...user may go without inputting the business area in the field which later on will create problem for clearing...
If required go for activating user exit FEB00001... which will give you the business area...
try the same with your ABAPer....
    Cheers

    Hi Experts,
I couldn't install SAP GUI 7.20 compilation 3 in my PC, I used SAP GUI in my PC a year ago but later I formatted my disk. Now when I click on SAPGUISETP it is throwing the following error
The Procedure entry point ?FeiDbgException@@YAXVCWin32Exception@@@Z could not be located in teh

    Can anyone please advise?
NB P.s: Initially it mentioned the dll files NWSAPFEIUT.dll  & NwSapFeiLg.dll were missing just now I copied them to System & System32 folders. But even though it is showing this entry point error. Also i have done a clean boot and tried installing it but in vain.

    Hi
Please can you check the version of nwsapfeilg.dll in C:\Program Files\SAP\SapSetup\setup
The issue was caused by a version conflict. nwsapfeilg.dll.

  • Extendscript that duplicates a hypertext marker in a TOC entry

    Hi everybody,
I guess many Framemaker users have encountered the following issue in Framemaker: when adding a character format to a word/character inside a heading (while the rest of the heading has its "usual" format), the corresponding TOC link area is partially clickable. The reason for this is that the “foreign” character format somehow disrupts the hypertext command. The only workaround proposed on the Web is to use a Framescript to duplicate the hypertext marker in the TOC entry each time the character format is changed. Is it possible to create an Extendscript that does that?
Thank you for your input in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Roman

    Roman,
Yes this is definiotely possible and the algorithm could be identical to the FrameScript solution. I can think of two methods: Either using Copy and Paste to create the second instance of the marker or – as a marker is such a simple object – just read the MarkerText property from the existing marker and create a new Hypertext marker at the appropriate text location and set the MarkerText.
I once did a comparison between FrameScript and ExtendScript solutions (see http://wp.me/p25LLF-4n ) and you can use the same algorithms.

  • New blog entries experience "error updating .Mac", and no "add comments"

Blog always worked fine. Now new blog entries get error updating .Mac message. New post does appear online, but there is no Add Comments option, despite it being selected in the inspector. Also, the blog main page doesn't show a title in the title bar at top. Might this have something to do with the new Mobile Me features (which I haven't tried or signed up for). When I delete the new posting and publish, it publishes fine. This error even happens with the template pg, so it's not anything to do with my formatting. Thanks for your help.

I have not tried publishing a new Blog entry since the new "me" thing, but I did try just a text edit on an existing Entry and republished the Entry. It seemed to function normally.
However, all of my Comments are missing from all my Blog entries - although the hit counts are still there.
And my Slide Shows won;t work and thumbnails won't enlarge on my photo pages.
Everything was working perfectly before this big "improvement" we just got.
I sure hope this is temporary or I just might throw a fit. There was a lot of valuable stuff in those comments, and if there won;t be a Comments function at all, I won't be able to keep my blog at mac. com or me whatever.
    Why fix what isn't broken?

  • TOC entry without new topic

I have a multi-chapter project in FrameMaker 12 that I've linked in RH11. I use RH to auto-generate the TOC. The first page of each topic has the first two headings from each FM chapter, with the remaining headings starting each remaining topic. I've done this by creating and mapping two paragraph styles in FM. H0, H1, and H1A. I use FM to auto number them like this:
    100 H0 Chapter title
    101 H1A Topic 1
    102 H1 Topic 2
    103 H1 Topic 3
In RH Project Settings / FM conversion settings, I set H1 to start a new topic, which creates a corresponding TOC entry. I've set H1A to not start a new topic because my client wants it on the same page as the first topic. However this of course doesn't create a TOC entry. This makes it look like the H1A entry is missing from the document.
Is there a way to have RH include a FM paragraph in the TOC, but exclude it from creating a new topic?

I already had the TOC in FM, along with the index and glossary. I'm transitioning my client to publish online, but they want to keep the PDF publish option. When I brought the FM content to RH and started styling the Responsive HTML5, I wanted to keep the first two H1 sections on the first page of each topic and have the remaining FM heading start new topics. So I created the H1A format in FM and used that for the 2nd heading in FM. Then in the RH conversion settings I set H1 to start a new topic, but not H1A. But the H1A was excluded from the imported and published TOC. I mistakenly assumed that was because I didn't have it set to a new topic also. Once I read the responses here I backed up and realized that it was actually because I didn't add H1A to the FM TOC after I created that para format in FM. Stupid mistake.

  • File format error for xml file

    Hi!
We are trying to upgrade our SAP 4.6C to EHP4.
While "configuration roadmapstep", system asks us the XML file we have
produced via solman. When we enter the path of the file system gives theerror below:
    The selected configuration file
    ("E:\downloadupg\SMSDXML_FKQ_20100917142727.656.xml") is not useable.
    Reason: "File format error"
We have tried the txt file instead of xml file. The result was same.
You can find the details of our system.
    4.6D EX2 32 bit kernel
    windows 2003 64 bit OS
sql 2005 64 bit database software
We have to upgrade our system until that monday.
Please help us as soon as possible.
    Best regards
    Noyan Durna

    Hello Noyan,
first, the official information: please refer to note #1022704 - for source release 4.6, the TXT file has to be used instead of the XML file. Otherwise, 'File format error' will occur as in your case.
But since you tried this option, you should turn your attention to the XML itself, which must contains entries that are not handled by function module OCS_GET_UPG_STACK_INFO in the 4.XX source systems. The function module only expects the entries [SPAM_CVERS], [PRDVERS] and [SWFEATURE].  Any other entries present on the file can cause an error.
Please check your file for other entries like [APP_SYSTEM], [SWFEATUREINC], [TECHUSAGES], [INITIAL_CVERS], [EXPORT_CVERS], and [DVD_SET]; this might be the cause of the error.
In order to workaround this, you can either edit the file and remove the invalid entries or recreate it (w/o this entries also).
    Best regards,
    Tomas Black

  • Is there a way to remove the .swf extension from the TOC entries in an aggregator project?

I've created a Captivate 5 aggregator project that includes swf outputs which were also published using Captivate 5. The TOC entries in the aggregator project all show the published file name followed by the .swf extension (see attached image). Is there a way to hide the .swf extension in the TOC entries?

Yes, a colleague of mine was able to figure it out. Just double-click the chapter title in the .aggr project. It places it into edit mode and allows you to remove the ".swf" extension as well as make any other changes to the name that you want. It's so easy now that we know how to do it, but it was tricky to figure out since the chapter list does not appear editable at first.

  • Bex Analyser : Date Format error.

    Hi All,
We are facing date format error, while running the query in Bex analyzer.
We have one column in report i.e Net Payment Date, so when we run the query in analyzer the single date like "5-6-2010 is getting swapped like 6-5-10 & year also showing two digits i.e instead of 2010 it shows 10" & date like "12-09-2010 is coming perfectly."
Means the date which is in single digit we are facing this problem like 1 to 9 & the dates which are 10 & above showing perfectly.
In RSRT the query showing proper result, so i don't think it's BI problem.
The regional setting is DD-MM-YYYY & Date separator is '-' & we don't want to change this format.
Is there any SAP note or any solution for this..??
All the replays are gr8ly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Santosh

    Hi Santosh,
how about web display? is it ok? for me it seems more an Excel problem, so maybe you should check if there is special formatingin this.

  • Is there a way to prevent Robohelp WebHelp from appending characters to the end of the URL address for a TOC Entry?

I am running RoboHelp 10 on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64 bit OS.
WebHelp is appending characters to the end of the TOC entry's URL address. The characters "bc-n" where n is a number are being generated for all of the TOC Page Entries when I generate WebHelp output. We are exporting the HTML files for import into an application. The TOC Page Properties Link to: property does not contain the characters in RoboHelp.
We have standardized names defined for our application and the appended characters are not going to work in the application.
    cid:[email protected]
When I use the generated html output in IE10 Version 10.0.9200.16635 Update Versions: 10.0.7 (KB2846071) the characters show up in the URL when I hover the mouse over the TOC entry as shown in the screenshot below.
    cid:[email protected]
The two screenshots show that the Link to property does not have the characters "bc-7" but the URL address does.
Is there a setting or way to configure RoboHelp to prevent Robohelp WebHelp from generating and appending characters to the end of the URL address for TOC Entries?

I have never known Rh add any characters so I think something else is at play here. Please open one of the sample projects and see what happens there. Click Open on the RoboHelp Starter page and then click Samples in the ribbon on the left.

  • How do I update linked FM files without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?

    Hi,
I'm using RH 10 with linked FM 11 files to create a WebHelp project and this is what happens when I do an update or force update of a linked file in the RH project:
After the update, the topic that contains updated content gets deleted from project TOC in RH.
After the update, any Map IDs assigned to the topic that contains the updated content are deleted.
Can someone please advise how to update a linked file without losing TOC entries or Map IDs?
    Thanks a bunch!
    Gabe

    HI Gabe,
You will want to link the TOC from FM in your conversion settings, and set the map id's via TopicAlias markers in FM.

    Hi
When importing the bank statement I'm getting the error
Error: (00 298) Formatting error in the field COBL-KOSTL ; see next message
Why is it doing this? In OKB9 I have the GL Account and the cost center assigned. It is the ne GL that is giving this problem, in the classic GL I do not have this problem.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
No, it is not that. For some reason in the new GL it does not seem to determine the cost centers and profit centers as usual.
For exampl to allocate the Profit Center for Balance Sheet Account I used to use 3KEH in the classic gl but in the New gl we must use FAGL3KEH.
Now with cost center i'm having the same problem, does not determine the cost center when importing the bank statement.
    Can someone help me.

    Hi All,
I am trying to implement Oracle 10g RAC on my laptop using vmware and openfiler software . But while executing the command
    #mkfs.ocfs2 -b 4K -C 32K -N 4 -L oracrsfiles /dev/iscsi/crs11/part1
    I am getting the error
Format Error : mkfs.ocfs2 1.2.7 file system too small for a journal
Please anybody can help me to resolve this problem.
    Thanks in Advance.

How large is the device that you are formatting?
The default journal size depends on the type specified. If none specified,
then it assumes "mail" which sets the default journal per slot to 256M.
If database type, default is 64M.
Use "-T database" to specify database type, etc.
BTW, one can always override the defaults. Say "-J size=16M" to make
    a smaller journal.
man mkfs.ocfs2 and the user's guide has more.
