I'm applying for a job with a publishing company that's using Macs. I'm a long time user and worked in the Mac labs at school. But I'd like to get an idea of what kinda problems people might experience in this specific environment. (Obviously many issues will transcend all types of users of different industries, but nonetheless.)

Your question is too wide and non-specific to give a simple reply.
What I would do is to find out what software they use (Quark? InDesign?) and then go to the forums of the software developers and read up on what problems, if any, are reported.

Top 15 Issues/Fixes Needed in the next Premiere Pro release/update (CS6.5 or CS7)

I’m excited for what’s coming next in Premiere Pro CS6.5 or CS7 (whichever update is next). As a former FCP7 user myself, Premiere CS6 was a quick and necessary switch (especially after changing the main keyboard shortcuts back to what I was used to). I’ve since gone back to FCP7 on occasion for certain things and I can tell you that I’m so glad I’ve switched. For all the headaches and serious errors that I still get daily/weekly with Premiere Pro CS6, it’s still definitely a big step up. I'm encouraged by staff members like Mitch W. that have expressed confidence that many of these issues will be resolved in the next release. Here is my personal list of “Top 15 issues/fixes” needed in the current Premiere Pro CS6…
(Adobe STAFF...feel free to print this out and hand it to the engineers responsible for making changes )
1) The infamous multicam FLAW. Needing no introduction…when you are editing your video in the multicam window and you hit pause or stop Premiere has decided that’s a great time to make a cut on your timeline and also switch angles back to the original angle whether you like it or not. You cannot stop ever while editing multicam without Premiere making these unwanted cuts and angle changes. Awful. Multicam in PPro is otherwise pretty nice, but this issue is terribly counter-productive especially when you are editing longer complex multicam sequences. Imagine if every time you hit pause or stop in the regular timeline it made a cut there and switched clips. Ugh. You get my point.
2) The audio meters/levels do not work while in the multicam window. A staff member in the forums (I think it was you) said this was a bug. Hope it will get fixed. The audio levels work in every other window and its essential to be able to keep an eye on the levels while editing multicam.
3) Ticktime.cpp-207 error. Ugh. What a nightmare. I have confidence that it will be fixed soon. Mitch W. from the forums is my new hero for taking on this error. How to replicate it?…simply have 6 (or 7) or more clips with the warp stabilizer effect added on the same timeline as a nested multicam clip and you get this error upon reopening your project. The more warp stabilizers you use, the more times you’ll have to hit “continue” to get through the error before you can open your project or export it to AME. I deal with this every single day because all my projects use these two elements. Most of my projects I have to hit “continue” on the error message upwards of 350-450 times to open my projects. Gets old fast.
4) Icon View order control. When you display all your clips in icon view instead of a list view (In the project window), there is no metadata to allow you to put the clips in order somehow (or at least maintain the order that you have in the list). There are roundabout workarounds, but c’mon.
5) Warp Stabilizer fixes…it is an AMAZING tool (far, far, far better than smoothcam in FCP7) BUT…it has it’s issues. Since I use hundreds of times/week (no exaggeration) I know it’s functions/flaws really well. The issues with Warp Stabilizer:
a) #3 above
b) Toggle OFF the effect after it’s applied and then hit Analyze again and PPro crashes. (easy to avoid but annoying bug)
c) If a clip is in the middle of stabilizing (not just analyzing…but the final step labeled “analyzing”) when Auto-save comes up…most of the time PPro freezes and crashes.
d) The DEFAULT “method” (in the settings for Warp Stabilizer) should NOT be “Subspace Warp”…it should be “Position, Scale, Rotation”. Why? It’s FAAAAARRRR better and more efficient. 95 out of 100 times it causes MUCH less “wobble” in the final stabilized clips AND most importantly 95 out of 100 times it scales the video less. Way better method.
6) The ability to open multiple projects simultaneously. As simple as FCP7 had it…or even better…as cool and efficient as FCPX does it would be nice.
7) The ability to mark a clip and not just a point on a timeline (because if you move the clip, the marker doesn’t go with it). I know you can use “Clip Marker” but it's very limiting, can't be moved, can't add notes, can't advance to the next marker (as far as I know). Also a marker list like FCPX has would be nice so you can see your markers all in a list at a glance and adjust them as needed.
8) Ability to select a clip in the Project window and find out where it’s used in the timeline. I LOVE how you can do the reverse and take a clip in the timeline and “Reveal in Project Window” but it would really help to go the other way around. Dealing with several hundred clips for every project I’ve missed this feature from time to time (FCPX handles this really well).
9) Add a through-edit indicator in timeline and “re-join clips” option. If you cut a clip but keep both clips together it’s just one continuous clip. But I really hope Premiere adds the not only an indicator of some sort (like FCP7′s way of having two small red triangles facing each other on that cut) so you know it’s one continuous clip BUT ALSO the ability to right-click and “re-join” the two clips into one.
10) When clip is double-clicked in timeline, CTI position in source viewer should match location in timeline. This one is pretty annoying and a fix would be incredibly helpful. The way it is now is very counter-productive. Definitely hope this gets fixed ASAP.
11) Better border controls for images/videos. Can’t do much with images right now in PPro. At least allow to customize the color and size/strength of it’s borders and shadows.
12) Better support for Mac/Apple's top end computers/GPU's. I'm still surprised that 2011 top of the line iMac cards (AMD 6970M) that have 2gb of ram are not supported. I’m sure/I hope 2012 iMac’s will be supported with their new Nvidia GPU’s…but I’ll hold out hope that the top iMac (up until 3 months ago) is supported at least at it’s full power. All around better Mac support would be great considering the wave of new users coming over from FCP.
13) Opacity/Transparency issues with EXPORTED videos with Cross Dissolves, etc. For some odd reason videos exported from Premiere CS6 have issues with cross dissolves or minor transparency. I’ll try to explain…in the program window of PPro CS6 cross dissolves look fine. Also, if you take a clip and stack it on top of another clip and put the top clip at say 99% opacity instead of 100 it looks like it should in PPro. But, if you export the clips you’ll quickly see that there are issues. It’s almost like the exported videos dissolve from 5 to 95. They skip the subtle beginning (0-5%) and subtle end (95-100%) of any fade. A clip in PPro as described above that is on top of another but set at 99% will look more like 90-95% in the exported file ESPECIALLY if the two clips are contrasting (eg. top layer dark, bottom layer with bright elements). It’s like the opposit of ease-in/ease-out. I have to ease-in/ease-out of every dissolve to avoid this issue…and even then, it’s not THAT much of an “ease” as one would hope. Another user in a forum once posted a video that shows how abruptly exported videos end their transparency changes…see: THIS SAMPLE VIDEO Perhaps this is a GPU/processing issue with AME vs. Premiere Pro but whatever it is, it should be fixed so videos you export look like the videos you edited!
14) Better control in Creative Cloud over which devices are “activated/deactivated” We have 3 computers and it would be nice if one could log in to their Creative Cloud account and see a list of which devices they have and just toggle on/off which one’s are activated/deactivated. This is especially helpful when you are mobile and forget to deactivate one of your two home/office devices so you’re stuck now until you get back to the home/office to deactivate it. This is not a Premiere thing, but just a general wish.
15) Ability to sync multicam clips automatically using the audio. Plural eyes apparently does this well. Would be nice to have it built into Premiere like FCPX does. Select all the shots you want to sync, One button click, wait a few seconds, done.
That’s my top 15. Everything else is awesome in my opinion for what I do 10 hours a day 6-7 days a week. I’ve included bug reports/feature requests for all of these at one point but if you are someone else reading this go to the following link and ask for these issues to be fixed: FEATURE REQUEST/BUG REPORT
I wish Adobe did smaller updates more often. Because even if they were smaller updates, we’d at least know you are working on fixing some of these issues that have plagued this NLE for years. Holding off fixes for one or two big “updates” every year is tough to deal with in a world of the ever updating apps we live and play with daily on our phones. I realize Premiere is a much larger scale and far more professional than a phone app, but hopefully you get my point. Here’s to hoping the next release (NAB 2013?) resolves all my top 15 issues. Here’s to hoping that these issues will be resolved sooner than later so I can stop raising hell in various forums. I’m honestly ready to start praising and defending Premiere Pro instead of griping about it’s bugs and flaws. It’s a fantastic program “on the way” to being the best. I hope.

Nice list, however it does seem a little bit like you may be hoping that Adobe provides the Final Cut 8 package that Apple never delivered on. Having edited primarily with P-Pro for the last decade, I hope Adobe focuses more on getting the next release to run as smooth as CS5x does, strangling and crucifying all the codec and playback bugs that arose in CS6. To me, it appeared that too many of the changes in CS6 were semantic or cosmetic, meant to give a FCP user more familiarity. Why change the name of an edit function from "overlay" to "overwrite" after 15 years? Because it enhances the product, or because that is what Apple called the function in FCP? If Adobe renames the Program Monitor to the "Canvas" with the next release, I think that I might be sick. There were nice additions to the Creative Suite as a whole, but I hope the next Premiere release reverses some missteps made in CS6, and focuses more on stability and enhanced functionality. I also really hope that they have an open ear towards criticism; Apple did not and their users ended up with FCP-X
It saddens me that the fixes I want most in a future release were purposeful changes between CS5x and CS6x.
1) Provide the options for transport controls in the source and program monitors. All of the users at my office hate that the jog and shuttle were removed in CS6. JKL was an option prior to CS6 and if we liked it we would have used it. I keep reading the justification that this change was meant to save space and streamline the UI. I can't express cordially how much this bothers me to look at the empty wasted space in my CS6 UI where the transport controls should be. The experiment has gone on long enough.
2) Restore the 3 Way Color Corrector to its previous functionality. The 3 way color corrector has been effectively neutered in CS6. Where in CS5x and earlier releases one could separately target the input/output levels of Highlights, Midtones, and Shadows, CS6 has only a master input/output level control. Why is less control better? Is it a 3-Way Color Corrector or a 1-Way Color Corrector?
3) Restore Clip and Timeline markers to their previous functionality. I don't even.... I can't. A user shouldn't have to do work arounds to create a modicum of functionality. This again was an attribute that wasn't broken in earlier releases.
4) Simplify the the task of pasting media into a targeted track. As it is now, pasted items will always go to the lowest activated track instead of the targeted track.
Lastly I would like the Adobe Premiere teams to consider what an amazing accomplishment Premiere CS5x was. Upon CS5's release, a good portion of competitor's workflows became obsolete. CS5.5 refined, stabilized, and expanded functionality.
CS6 changed the UI around, moving or deleting buttons, changed keyboard shortcuts, and renamed functions. Oh, and added hoverscrub, you know...like FCPX. In exchanged there was loss of functionality, stability issues and broken codecs.
I really hope the next release is more like CS5x and less like FCPX

Unix에서 ps 명령으로 보면 다음과 같이 ctxsys 유저의 패스워드를
볼 수 있다.
/oracle/ora805/ctxsrv -user ctxsys/ctxsys -personality ...
이 경우 다음 password 파일을 사용하여 ctxsrv를 기동시키면 패스워드를
보이지 않게 할 수 있다.

Context server 기동시 다음과 같은 에러메시지가 나오는 것은 사용자를
cascade option으로 drop 시켰기 때문이다.

ORA-02292 integrity constraint (%s.%s) violated -child record found
이것은 drop 된 context 사용자의 index, policy, preference가 계속 존재 하기 때문이다.
해결책은 drop된 사용자와 동일한 이름으로 user를 만들고, 기존에 부여된
role (ctxsys, ctxapp, ctxuser) 를 부여해 준 후, index, policy,
reference를 순서대로 삭제해 주면 된다.
10. Policy 생성시 DRG-10537, ORA-06512 발생하는 문제.

There is nothing like Top issues with it!!!!
If you need to use DBlinks then you ought to use it, thats simple.
The only thing is that you need to be aware of some facts:
1) You should get access to the remote database for creating the DB links. Sometimes remote databases are goverened by different SLAs and hence its diffucult to get access to userid/password.
2) Evaluate carefully before creating public database links, that might expose your remote database to all the local database accounts without your knowledge.
3) With DB links comes into picture districuted transactions and hence expect execution plans etc behaving different in comparison to sqls accessing the same DB.
4) Also be ready to view more DBA_2pc_pending and DBA_2pc_neighbors DD views, since due to any instablity in network between local and remote DB there might be in-doubt transactions.
5) when clonding the PROD DB to test database, make sure to wipe out the dblinks so that nothing from test points to prod environment.

We are trying to collect all the information we can to identify the top issues that customers are facing before, during or after E-Business Suite upgrades. We are really committed to address all possible issues and so we can prevent usual problems, showstoppers, inconveniences, lack of documentation and other technical difficulties.
What would you say are your top 10 issues that faced to upgrade to R12? Or what would you like Oracle to address in the near future to make your life easier?

Hi Max ! Hope you are well :-)
One thing that I assume most folks would find useful is a pre-upgrade script that can do some basic checks to identify any potential issues that need to be addressed before the upgrade starts.
A simple example is documented in MOS Doc 802515.1 (R12 Upgrade: Workers Fail In Apstca01.Sql) - the profile option in our system was set to NULL (the default) and the apstca01.sql failed in the middle of the first test upgrade - not a big issue, but would have been nice to have this corrected before the upgrade.
I am sure that are hundreds of such "gotchas" from all the various modules :-)
This script is almost analogous to the database pre-upgrade script/tool (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17222/upgrade.htm#UPGRD12395) that performs some checks and makes recommendations.

Suggestion : Have the "Top Users in Forum" report based on 30 days

Currently, the "Top Users in Forum" listing is based on cumulative points. This means that we will never see "rising stars !".
If the list were to report based on, say, points earned in the past 30 days, we'd at least be able to note some "rising stars !"

Hemant K ChitaleCan Jive handle the extra processing required to maintain both overall points for the persons status AND points in the last 30 days for the Top Users lists, per forum? Jeez, it can hardly handle serving the threads, don't give it more work to do. If we want anything we want the little dotty things back, at least they were useful, unlike the points system.

Monitoring user issued queries...and how long queries have been running.

I am trying to get the user issued query and how long it has bee running.
I was trying to test on test database running a query under scott schema with
1.5 million records which is almost taking more than 5 minutes and trying to
see If I can see the query and how long it has been running.
I ran script(show.sql---from Ask tom) got it from NET and i see session status as INACTIVE while query was still running. And I do not see the query in output.
I could see the show.sql query in output.
Why is it showing session status as INACTIVE when the sql is still running.
Could you please provide me sql that will show user issued quries and how ong they have been running

Go to Morgan's Library at www.psoug.org and look up "DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO." This built in package has a procedure named SET_SESSION_LONGOPS that may help you.

What's the algorithm to determine Top Users in a given Forum?

(not sure this is the right forum to ask this... Sorry if it's not)

I was wondering how the left-hand side Top-Users in a given forum are determined?
Today I had a quick look in the OCI one (Oracle Call Interface (OCI) and found that all Top-Users had been registered for several years, but some had not posted since Oct 2006, and others posted very little in the forum at hand. In fact, out of the 10, only 2 are regular posters and in fact the two "pillars" on the forum, with the most expertise (from my experience on this forum for a few weeks).
All other "Top-Users" haven't been heard for months or even years on the forum, and some have very little posts on the forum itself (5 only for example).
This lead me to wonder what kind of heuristic determines Top-Users in a forum, as in the OCI example, it bares little evidence to reflect actual involvement in the forum.

Thus look at the top 10 as more of an indicator as to which are or were the 10 most noisiest users in the forum. Good point, and yes, only the posts counter is taken in account.
Quantity rate rather than quality. Quality rate should be better, the problem is who could be able to define the quality of response ?

Dynamically Identifying user issuing SQL statement

Client wants to provide security to certain data by first capturing the identity of every user issuing a SQL statement, then, based on the user and a security table, allow access to certain data. Is this doable? TIA...

Oracle has a whole product centered around this called "Label Seurity", which I'm guessing may be too much for your needs. Check out this marking shag for info about "virtual private databases" http://technet.oracle.com/deploy/security/oracle8i/pdf/vpd_wp6.pdf
Basically, the idea is that the "old school", but still perfecly fine, way to do it is to create views for each group of users and grant permissions to the views for the appropriate users. Optionally using synomyms into their schemas to give users the same name for the different views.
The virtual private database and similar stuff is hard to explain. I think of it as the db engine auto-adding a where clause to each sql statement based upon who you are. If that makes any sense.
I've tried this a couple of different ways, but have yet to hit upon one that seems easy & generally applicable.

Im just wondering if any of the top users here are planning to upgrade to the new Macbook Pro - or do you plan to stay with your current Macbook Pro?

I'm very interested in your reply. I'm a photographer, too. Am soon going to change from my MacPro tower and 22-inch cinema display to a MacBook Pro. Not so much for airport/lap/in-the-field but because I will be moving seasonally between two houses in different parts of the country, and want a more mobile setup. I had assumed I should hold out for the 17-inch model to be upgraded like the 15-inch, mostly because of the screen size. Haven't had a chance yet to get to an Apple Store to compare.
Do you find the 15-inch screen big enough, or do you do most of your hardcore photo editing on a different Mac? Did you find your former 17-inch unwieldy?

Multi-User Issues

I've taken over development of a Vs2003(vB)/MsSql2000 application which usually runs in on a Windows 2000 server with multiple workstations running the application simultaneously in Remote Desktop Sessions.
The central user interface element of the application is an un-databound grid (actually a farpoint spreadsheet) which displays sql table rows that are accessable from every workstation. The grid refreshes its content whenever a specific subroutine is called. That subroutine performs a query which loads its results into a collection which is then loaded into the grid. The subroutine is called during startup and at other times using the rather elaborate mechanism described below. Each workstation also has the ability to modify any row in the grid via a dialog-based editor. The grid itself is not setup to allow inplace editing.
The grid usually contains about 200 records and 20-50% of these records get modified (some repeatedly) every hour.
My question involves the classic multi-user issues of keeping all of the seperate workstation's grids current as individual workstations make modifications to the data.
What is Microsoft's recommended method for handling multi-user data-refresh requirements in custom applications written in VB.NET2003 with MsSQL2000?
Now that you know what I'm looking for, let me add a little more detail. The existing code handles this multi-user refresh issue in the following way...
A SQL Trigger is attached to the SQL Table's Insert/Modify and Delete events. That Trigger calls the xp_logevent built-in stored procedure to make an entry in the NT Event Log.
The application contains a subroutine to handle EventLog("Application").EntryWritten messages. That subroutine calls the subroutine (mentioned earlier) which refreshes the grid contents through a new SQL query.
In this way, whenever any workstation changes the table data, a trigger fires which makes a log entry and broadcasts an EntryWritten message into the global windows environment. The individual applications (each running in their own RDP session) hear the message and respond by refreshing their grid.
This all seems a little "rube goldberg" to me, but it has worked for many years.
That is, until we moved the SQL2000 server to a seperate machine to improve program responsiveness.
Now when the trigger is fired and the log entry is made, the EntryWritten message is broadcast into the windows environment of the dedicated SQL server where there are no applications listening for it. Meanwhile, the applications continue to run with unrefreshed data on the (now) dedicated RDP server from where the EntryWritten messages cannot be "heard".
So my question really comes down to this...
In an environment where the SQL server and the RDP server are two seperate machines, what is the best method for coordinating multi-user screen refreshes across seperate applications running in distinct RDP Client sessions?

Top Users - log in

On APEX 4.0 home page there is a section for "Top Users" and I am assuming the quantity shown for each user is page events. I would like to calculate something similar but calculate the number of log-ins for each user. How would I go about doing that?

Hi John,
Check out the ApEx Views (available in the Tasks links on the Application Builder home page). The one you will probably be interested in is APEX_WORKSPACE_ACCESS_LOG. You can slice/dice this info a number of different ways, but for just a basic count of log-ins by user:
SELECT user_name, count(*) logins
FROM apex_workspace_access_log
WHERE authentication_result = 'AUTH_SUCCESS'
GROUP BY by user_name;Hope this helps,

DESK TOP AGENT ISSUE

Hi everyone
We have a company and one department is used for their contact center space
Problem they are facing is when an agent takes an external call and then transfers it to an internal user the call seems to stay in their que and stops them from taking calls....
I have also got them to uninstall desk top agent and install but this does not help, the downside of this is SODS law when we test it works but happen intermittently
Pleas any help would be great

I would open a TAC case for this, I'm guessing here that there might be some codec issue going on and the call hangs up or if you transfer the call to a Unity VM the call will hang. However, before opening a TAC I would spend some time figuring out a way to troubleshoot it.

Model User Issues

Hello All,
We are running GRC10.1 and continue to have issues with the Model user process.
We have created new templates (EUP)for user creation / deletion / change and these are working correctly, We changed the default EUP ( As we were told this is the one used by Model user) to mirror the user creation template making the user group field, in the user system details tab, mandatory. When the model user process is used it does not take the default EUP into account.
Plus using the model user option I assumed it would copy parameters / license type / user group from the model user to the new user and this is not the case. There are some fields that are present in the user system details tab we would also like to make mandatory (Contractual User Type ID) but we cannot do this as they dont appear in the EUP list so I dont see how these can be managed. I have taken a look at OSS notes and the one I can find relating to EUP has already been applied.
Any help would be appreciated.

well from a BES admin point of view, if you need to browse the web for work, you should do it using the "BlackBerry Browser" inside the smartphone, and not some browser connected to an unsecure Wi-Fi network.
Your problem comes from using the Browser of the PlayBook and not the one from the Bridge.

Email selected users issue - sharepoint group

When we select a few users in the first page of the group and when we navigate to the second page, all the users that we selected on the first page are unselected. Is this the known issue or is it only in our environment

its a known issue . Your selection is not kept when you change you go to next page .
The possible solution that i can come up with is :
go to the people and group-->select group ==> settings ==> List settings scroll to bottom of page ==>under view click list view . again scroll down and yoou will see item Limit section now expan it == > change the number of items to
display to increase the number from default "30 " to "300" or "500" as per the limit of members you want top select to and then say ok .
Now when you go back to the group you will have ann the members and you can slect and your selection will not be lost

User Issue

Recently i had an Installation of IDES 4.7 EE.
OS - Win 2000 server.
    I have two issues Rearding this.
   1. When I proceed to work on SE38, System asks an OSS key,
       Previously when i work with IDES 4.7 then with the Login of SAPUSER
       I can work successfully but with IDES 4.7 EE i didn't found SAPUSER as
       user with any of the Authorization Object, strucked here to proceed furthur .
2. I am trying to Provide path for HTML help from SR13, but with the ping from
      Menu -> SapLibrary the help doesnt opens.

Please confirm on IDES server, whether you are able to browse the internet connection. Also checks the proxy setting in Inetrnet explorer.
Regarding SAP USER id, try to login client 800 and you may find SAPUSER userid.
If not then that means SAPUSER userid was not created before delivered IDES CD. Try top use some other userid in client 800 and check the auth including oss key when using tx. code se38.
