Toshiba A505 Loud cd/dvd player loud noise!!!

I bought a A505-S6005 about 3 months ago. Everything works great but just yesterday i put a dvd in the drive and it started making a loud sound. It vibrates real bad and the fan makes a loud noise too. It finally stop making noise then as soon as it would read it again the noise would come back. It does that with every cd or dvd. The laptop came with a One year warranty but i lost the paper and the receipt. I still have the box and stuff. I was wondering if i could still return it ? Thanx

I would not rule out the possibility of it being defective, you really should get that looked at. Unless a Best Buy employee says otherwise, I think if you purchased your laptop directly from Best Buy, I think they can send out your Toshiba Laptop on your behalf to the manufacturer for warranty repair.

how about the HD DVD Burning .. should i buy HD DVD Burner or the mac pro DVD Writer will solve this problem? and it will burn HD DVD SL-15GB and DL-30GB ?
You cannot burn a 15 or 30 Gig DVD from DVD SP and it is not supported by DVD SP. You can build those to a hard drive for replication
also what is the basic steps to creat the HD project in HD DVD not the DVD 5 and compatible with the toshiba player?
    Best Regard.
You can make a HD DVD on the DVD 5 which will play with the Toshiba and it will give HD quality (and will not play on an SD player) video results, though you cannot author the extras that HD has (the new features in HD as compared to SD DVD), pretty much menus and playback of video. The steps above will create the DVD 5. Have not tried writing to a DVD 9 size for more running time

  • Connecting Toshiba 32C120U to Magnavox DVD Player

I'm trying to connect a Magnavox DVD player (mdv453) to a Toshiba LCD (32c120u) and have no clue as to what I am doing. The connecter cord I am using has red, yellow and white...no green. This was a hand me down and on the DVD player it has the white connected to "audio out" L, the red to "audio out" R, and the yellow to "video out". Can you help me figure out how to connect the cords to the TV? This isn't my first attempt to find info, and I keep trying. Thanks

    hi,
if you are using a Red, white and yellow Coird and your Tv doesnt have a Yellow jack for the Yellow cable then you can try to plug that yellow cable to the green port ( Y/Video)

  • Can't install the Toshiba HD DVD Player for Windows 7 - 64 Bit

Notebook: Toshiba Qosmio G40 with windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
I can't install the HD DVD Player Driver from Toshiba for Windows 7 - 64 Bit 4.60.03 from 30/11/09 !
The installation will be cancel with information that the software can not be installed on this system.

Problem is that this file you have downloaded is not the player but just an update.
Usually you should be able to install player designed for Vista and later install this upgrade but, as I can see, Toshiba doesnt offer HD DVD player for Vista 64-bit.
I presume your notebook was delivered with Vista 32-bit only. Am I right about that?

  • A505-S6005 DVD player is LOUD!!

    Hi Everyone,
I just bought the A505-s6005 model & have loved it....until last night.  I played my first DVD & was really looking forward to the picture/sound quality over my last laptop.  However, the player was SO loud that I had to turn the sound all the way up just to hear it.  Also, the vibration from the player was terrible & I can't imagine that it won't cause damage to other parts of the computer.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?  If so, is there a fix...or do I just need to take it back and (sigh) start over with a new one?  I hate having to set everything up again but once of the main reasons I chose this computer was to watch DVD's, play games, etc.
Thanks in advance for your replies,
    Beth

I brought this very same computer not too long ago.  I absolutely fell in love with it.  The only problems I had were the size (its a little too big to carry around like I would like to) and the fingerprints (if in the office or in public it makes it look so dirty, I was constantly wiping it down)..I was willing to overlook those things because I was so impressed with things such as the screen quality, Harmon/kardon speakers, ample memory and hard disk size, the amazing touch pad (which I spent hours of trial and error customizing it just right)..I brought it from Best Buy, and get this, on the 13th day I watched my first DVD ( I usually watch online media), to my surprise after popping it in, it sounded like a helicopter was taking off under my laptop--the disk was voiently attempting to escape, I had to put in noise canceling earbuds so that I could even hear the movie.  I was so disappointed on the next day when I had to transfer all my info, and uninstall EVERYTHING!  I took it back on the 14th day ( the last day BB allows returns), I even recorded me playing a DVD and the noise it makes to prove the laptop was defective so that I didn't have to pay the 15% restocking fee..But to my surprise, when I talked to the geek squad guy, it was as if he already knew what the problem was with this model, without me even having to say anything.  Needless to say, I did not get another one.  Has anyone found a better option, with comparable specs.  Because of this incident, and all of the work I put into this computer set up in vain, im willing to spend a bit more money inorder to eliminate the fingerprint problem (it is REALLY bad, I mean blaringly noticeable and irritating), and the lack of probability.  Any thoughts would be welcome.  Maybe I'll try out a Mac..Then again, I really have fallen for windows 7, it's amazing.

  • DVD player in HP Pavilion dv6000 won't play, just makes loud whirring noises

My dvd player is making loud, whirring, roaring noises when I insert disks. I've tried a variety of disks, cleaned them, cleaned the DVD player, but no help.
I'm guessing this is more a hardware problem than something to do with drivers, etc. Has anyone else had this problem? The notebook is about 3 years old--is it likely that the dvd drive is just dead? Or is there anyway that I could possibly repair it? Thanks...

I have a dv9000 with the same issue - sometimes I can delete it in device mgr and then have it reinstall itself.  It works, but only for a vey short time.  sometimes it will read the disc and sometimes not - just whirring and clunking.

  • NEW Satellite A505 - Blu-ray won't play on WinDVD or Toshiba DVD player

I purchased a Satellite A505 (Windows 7) with a Blu-ray disc player that was pre-loaded with WinDVD, Toshiba DVD player, and one other player (?) - all this software was added 12/21/2009 (by the manufacturer). When I put in a Blu-ray disc WinDVD stops responding and I have to start the task manager to "end task." The Toshiba player says "media not supported." I used the recommended compatibility settings (Windows XP) and it says "incompatible application." I tried using a Sony Vaio w/ Blu-ray and had no problems with the same disc using WinDVD. I don't know what's wrong (and I'm not super tech savvy) - my settings, my drivers, my hardware... ???
I also downloaded the free trial of Corel's WinDVD 2010 and it wouldn't play on that either...
*Note - my model number is A505-S6012 but I can't find this as an existing model on any of the Toshiba sites. It was delivered to the store around 1/4/10, so it's brand new. The A505-S6990 has most of the same features though.

    jacuielaura,
I had the exact same issue with the Win DVD BD that was preloaded on my A505-S6014 when I purchased it. I myself also downloaded the Win DVD 2010 free trial and it did not work. Reason being is that they are only allowing people to trial the DVD version of Win DVD 2010 and not the Win DVD BD 2010. I also tried Cyberlink's PowerDVD and it worked but it digitized terribly. So I uninstalled both trials and went to support.toshiba.com and found what I needed to fix it.
I recommend you uninstall the original Win DVD BD version you have and any trial editions you downloaded and follow what I have listed below to fix your problem.
This is only a recommendation. Uninstall and install software at your own risk. If this fix doesn't work for you then you will have to call Toshiba and request a disc to reinstall your original software you uninstalled.
This is how I fixed mine:
Go to Support > Download > then choose your category (Laptop) then your Family (Satellite) then you're model #(A505-6012). Or you can just enter S6012 in the search box and it should bring up a list of all Laptop models with S6012 in them. Choose yours and click Go.
Now from the two drop down lists choose which Operating system: (Windows 7 64 bit) should be what you have, then choose Blu-Ray in the 2nd drop down list.
Download and SAVE these files to your desktop or My Downloads folder so you do not have to search for them again after you reboot.
You should now see this listed:
WinDVD BD for Toshiba for Windows 7 (32/64)(v8.0; 11-05-2009; 176.1M)
Also you will need to download the (Intel Management Engine Interface driver) which is listed in the drop down list under Utility (2nd page):
Intel Management Engine Interface for Windows XP/7 (32/64)(v6.0.0.1184; 10-08-2009; 6.39M)
Reboot after each installation even if it doesnt tell you to.
After both downloads have been installed and the OS is completely loaded again, insert a Blu-Ray disc and hopefully it should automatically play.
P.S. When playing Blu-Ray's I turn my power management to Performance. This may also help.
    Good luck!

  • IMac DVD Drive--Loud Noises

Recently my iMac DVD drive has begun to make loud noises when a disc is inserted. The loud whirring, spinning, and clicking noises last for about a minute to two minutes before the DVD finally ejects (after many attempts). Nothing plays, the sounds just automatically start. I've read that lower quality/damaged discs can cause similar sounds, but I have used two different DVDs and get the same result when one has worked perfectly before. Is anyone aware of what the problem might be or how to fix it?
    Thank you!

  • Satellite C855D Toshiba DVD player display suddenly stopped displaying

Please help as its now beyond me. The DVD player has suddenly just stopped. I can hear it and control it but cannot see it. I have checked the diplay button but its all ok.
    Help

    Im sorry IJK.
I thought it could be possible to download the Toshiba DVD player but it seems that this software is licensed and it cannot be downloaded from Toshiba driver page.
Its part of the Toshiba image. So you can get this tool only reinstalling the Toshiba image using the HDD recovery or the created Toshiba Recovery medium.
However, recovering the system would mean that the whole system would be installed again congaing previous HDD format. So in such case the data backup should be created before starting such procedure.
Another option: you could try to set the system back to early time point before the Toshiba DVD tool has crashed.
Last but not least you could try to install other freeware DVD player software like VLC player. It one of the best player software which is available on the market

  • IMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also play fine in Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

iMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also plays fine on Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
    Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
    etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers.

  • What can I do about this message -"Toshiba DVD Player has stopped working"

    Hi
My DVD Player used to work fine . . . and then I installed iTunes.
It then worked for a while, but only by using 'Run as Administrator'.
After a couple of weeks I started to get the message "Toshiba DVD Player has stopped working".
I have uninstalled iTunes - and uninstalled and then re-installed the DVD Player - but it still will not work!!
    Any solutions please?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Ms Q_reeus

My solution to this is to remove Toshiba DVD player and install VLC player. You can get it for free.
It can read all video formats and you don't need some additional codecs.

  • Successfully Created HD DVD that Plays in the Toshiba HD DVD Player BUT...

    So,
(I'm a student at Baylor University). I have successfully created several HD DVDs (on DVD 5's -- will try Dual Layers later this week) with DVD Studio Pro, and they play back on the new Toshiba HD DVD player. Got about 25 minutes of 1440x1080 23.98 MPEG 2 material (a short film of mine) in about 3.9 GB, and it played well and looked nice. It's no HDCam or anything, but it's very, very clean and watchable for what it is. (I based the encoding off of DVHS exports I was doing -- lo and behold, the M2V tracks are completely interchangeable.) A few notes, however:
A.) It only plays back the MPEG 2 based stuff. Tried the H.264 pre-sets, and it played like 5 frames a second, stuttered, stopped, and died. I'm going to do variable bit-rate comparisons to see if I can fit one of our feature lengths on a dual layer (at like 12.5 Mbps -- blech.)
B.) Can't get the player to recognize any of the buttons, either from templates or from created-from-scratch tests. (I have to manually tell it to play Track 1 to play the video track.)
So -- is anyone aware of specific scripts or instructions you have to put on the buttons for the HD DVD spec? I don't care about the H.264 as much, since I'm doing a lot of simultaneous DVHS exports and would like to migrate that over to all HD DVD. I'm probably just overlooking something simple and stupid (I certainly hope so.) I know, cutting edge and all that jazz, but it's really quite a bummer to be able to burn a nice shiny HD DVD version of my HD projects, but be unable to use my nice shiny menu buttons.
    Thanks,
    Josh
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

No, you do not want H.264 file at all. And if you do use a H.264 it will re-encoded as a MPEG-2 file, which means it will be double compressed, which always results in a loss in quality. Also be aware that you are working in SD resolution, which means 740x480 for NTSC video, not 1280x720.

  • CD/DVD player not working (Toshiba Satellite L875d-S7232)

I purchased a  (Toshiba Satellite L875d-S7232) on August 17, 2012 from a major retailer. Recently, the CD/DVD player will not play, or even recognize, commercially produced DVD movies. As a consequence, I cannot rent or buy movie DVDs, nor will any of the DVDs in my library work now. The DVD player in this Satellite is TSST SN-208AB.
What happens is that when you put a movie DVD in the machine, the light goes on 4 times, but the DVD player never spins up and starts playing. In the explorer, the CD/DVD icon is there, but when you try to "open" the DVD player it never spins up and a green bar goes, very slowly, across the top of the window.
The player has no trouble with audio CDs.
I have spent about 10 hours on this problem now. What I have tried followed all of the standard "fixes" for this specific problem on this specific machine and the correct OS (Windows 7 Home Premium). None of the standard fixes fixed anything.
    In Brief :
    1. I uninstalled all programs which use the DVD player, except for the standard suite that came with the computer at time of purchase. Also, uninstalled all CODEC packages that were not part of the original suite.
    2. Uninstalled the CD/DVD device and driver, as instructed, and the device and driver were automatically reinstalled. Did a full power cycle (including removal of the battery). I've done this solution about 4 times.
    3. Looked in the registry for a possible filter driver issue. There was none.
    4. Used Microsoft "Fix It" program, which discovered "a problem" but had no description of the problem or a reference to a fix.
    5. Ran the device driver update check, toshiba service station check, microsoft update check. All files are up to date and the correct file.
    6. Ran system files check, HDD corruption check. No problems reported.
Nothing done so far has moderated or altered the behavior in any way. Moreover, I have noted dozens and dozens of people on the internet in different forums with the same problem. What this means is that Toshiba is losing market share bigtime on this one.
    Any fix would be appreciated.

Hi Sense no one has replied, I will offer my 2 cents. DVD drives wear out and they also get dirty. You could try to clean it with compressed air. DVD drives are fairly cheap and very easy to replace.
    Dokie!!
I Love my Satellite L775D-S7222 Laptop. Some days you're the windshield, Some days you're the bug. The Computer world is crazy. If you have answers to computer problems, pass them forward.

  • Samsung DVD Player w/ a Toshiba TV/VCR combo

The subject combination has been working fine (for a long time) until... my apartment was rehabbed recently and I had to move all my stuff out for two months. When I reassembled the combo, the Samsung DVD Player would not/ will not display on the Toshiba; all I get is snow. I can see the Player's indicator light go from LOADING to PLAY and I can hear the DVD drive cycle on and off. The cabling is the red, yellow, white combination and is installed correctly. [There is a second set of red, yellow, white connections on the Toshiba TV which I've also tried to no avail.]
I think the problem is related to the Toshiba TV remote, but when I go to the Menu I don't see any relevant options. [In the installation guide for the  Samsung DVD Player, mention is made for setting it up w/ a computer but I have always used the above subject combination in a stand-alone setup.] Somewhere in Samsung's install info, they say to use either Ch. 3 or 4, which I can see over the snow. All help gracefully received. Thanks.
Yes, I know. A VCR? How passe. I noticed on Toshiba's Spell Check, the software doesn't even recognize VCR! It was working fine until it got disassembled and then reassembled after two months, which I've done several times before... (?)

You're using the yellow, white, and red RCA cables to connect the DVD player to the TV, correct? You've mentioned trying both inputs, which is good. I know you probably know this, but just to be sure, there are also three ports on the back of the TV are output and not input and shouldn't be used for this.
When you use the "Input Select" button on the remote, does it seem to change to the other inputs?
