Touchpad lock failure

Hi there. I'm using a probook 4520s with windows 7 professional 32bit. The touchpad is giving me problems in that it won't lock. This happened unexpectedly after windows declared it had "updated a driver." I tried to uninstall synaptics touchpad under the programs and features thing, and it gave me this error:
An error occured while attempting to uninstall.
The Synaptics Pointing Device driver will not be uninstalled.(9)
I tried to uninstall the driver in Driver management, and this was successful. However, windows replaced the driver with "Unknown device" and since then it makes no difference uninstalling it, it just lingers there (or gets instantly replaced, i'm not sure.
I've attempted to update it (successful, but no change) and i downloaded an old version of the driver that somehow it accepted rolling back to. There is no change,
The software still persists. I have changed UAC as well, scanned for viruses, screamed at a wall
Does anyone have any ideas?

by "lock" im referring to setting it so that it doesn't register being touched. It's not quite disabling it as in through software... there's this LED in the corner of the touchpad which, when tapped twice, turns on, and the pad "locks" ie: it no longer registers being touched until the led is tapped twice again.
Some further information: with the touch pad, there's two separate things: One is the software, which is registered in the programs and features section, and the other is the driver, in the driver management.
What happened was, It refused to delete the software. so I deleted the driver, and tried to delete the software then. It didn't work, the "software" still lingered in the programs and features menu, but the driver was replaced automatically by windows as an "unknown device," and the same problem still stood.
So, some progress (or not): I entered windows safe mode, and attempted to delete the software. it WORKED. I also deleted the driver. it WORKED
BUT NOW: when trying to reinstall either, i get the error "incorrect parameter" for any driver version i attempt to install
Needless to say, the pad simply does not work now. it's completely disabled.
any thoughts? much appreciated

Video/Audio Lock Failure Error Message

Every time I try to watch a show or a movie On Demand the screen goes black. Then a few moments later I receive an error message stating: " Video/Audio Lock Failure." Does anybody know how to fix this?

I just upgraded to FCEHD 3.0 from FCE 1.01. I was in the middle of capturing clips on a large project when I made the move (today). I got this same message and just found this answer -- thank you very much.
Should I go back and recapture all the clips that I did in FCE? I did not get the error message, but I have no idea what the settings were, either.
BTW: I am using a Sony PDX-10. Why would a professional camera be set up in 32K audio?

Satellite p845t-101 touchpad locked

The touchpad on my satellite has locked itself. the locked symbol has lit up on the touchpad and I cannot unlock it, the fn-f5 shortcut does not work, the fn button seems to work with all other shortcuts.
the touchpad works fine when the laptop is booting up but when the boot sequence has finished the touchpad locks out.
HELP ME PLEASE.

There's a setting which changes that to work with just F5.
You can also disable/enable the touch pad by double-tapping the indicator light. This is on p. 2-9 of the User's Manual (attached)

TouchPad lock key does not work anymore on Dell XPS L401X

Hi everyone,
On my Dell XPS L401X laptop, there is a key to lock/unlock the touchpad. It used to work fine on Windows and on new fresh install ArchLinux, but now it does not work anymore. If I remember correctly, I did not change, configure any shortcut so far.
Any hint to fix this problem?

Touchpad locked in Gnome [Solved]

I really don't know what's going on with my touchpad in Gnome. I use Gnome, so when I'm in GDM the touchpad works ok but when I login in Gnome it locks with no apparent reason. If I plug a usb mouse it works again so I know the one it is not working is the touchpad. My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv2000. In KDE the touchpad works fine.
If I try to open System-->Preferences-->Touchpad it can't be opened either.

I had the same issue and managed to track it down to gsynaptics... which I deinstalled and now it works right.
I didn't continue searching for the error, as I didn't really know I had gsynaptics installed or what it is good for. I expect is a gnome interface for the synaptics options.

HP Touchpad Locked

No device
I powered down my touchpad and then tried to fire it back up. When I turned it back on the logo for connection to a USB came up. I can not get it to come up again. As a matter of fact it is locked with this logo present. I have tried connecting to my laptop using the USB port but I am still getting nothing. Can anyone help with this?

Try rebooting the device by holding both the power switch and the center button together for around 15 seconds.
Booting into the USB symbol is done by powering down the device, then holding up volume switch and inserting the USB cable from your PC. When the USB symbol appears, let go of the volume switch.

Probook 4530s Touchpad locked in "OFF"

my hp Probook 4530s touchpad somehow gets locked to the "off" position and then i cannot get it to turn on?
Are there any other ways to activate other than double-tapping the upper left corner fo the touchpad?

9.0.1 touchpad scroll failure

Synaptics touchpad displays the scroll icon but does not move Firefox page. Works properly with MS word & excel.

Wanted to give an update of my progress today.
I again began with a clean installation of 9.0.0. Brought up the CF administrator and completed the installation. From there, I went directly to installing the 9.0.1 update and the 9.0.1 hotfix. To my amazement, the cf administrator came up with an issue. But . . .
I then went into the administrator to install my 'customizations' (i.e. my datasources, my SMTP mail server, my custom tags, etc). Truly nothing unusual. Almost sad to say - vanilla. I then shut down the service as recommended to have some of the changes 'take effect'. Boom, the cf administrator no longer appears but gives me the blank screen and the same error messages I have listed in my first note. So again, it must be "something either I turned on/off incorrectly, but don't even know where to look".
Would this be considered a bug?

Centro Keyboard Lock / Failure

Hello,
I have a Palm Centro (AT&T) that I have been using for about 2 years now. The other day, the keypad just sporadically stopped responding after more than one input (for example, I can hit any of the keys once and they will respond, but not again after being hit once). In addition, the large buttons (phone, applications, calendar, messages), green call button, and navigation buttons will not respond at all. However, the power button and center key will respond in order to bring the phone out of the power-save mode, but not respond in any other circumstance (aka cannot turn the 'phone' off). The touchscreen still works though.
I've performed a soft reset, but I cannot perform a hard reset as the phone does not seem to recognize me releasing the power key at the second palm logo (it freezes though if I had been holding the key down, again, it seems to recognize the key press only once).
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do to remedy this? I'd like to make sure it's not something I could solve with a reset (if I could get one to work) or some other software fix.

If the device will let you, perform a warm reset. It's similar to the hard reset except you hold the Up button on the 5 way navigator. This is going to put the device into a safe mode and just load the applications necessary for the device to run. See if the buttons are working then. If so, soft reset the device and see if the problem still occurs. If the problem still occurs in a warm reset I recommend replacement.
If it does work (in warm reset) and you soft reset the device then the problem occurs again, then I would warm reset the device and while in warm reset perform a hard reset.

I'm using SAP standard leave workflow WS20000081 to find quota,apply,approve & generate leave.In the leave workflow one standard worl flow no. WS01200003 is used to find & lock employee, but it is not working after finding the employee the workflow is not locking the employee but it is showing WAITING status. The BAPI is used to lock employee is working fine & also i've manually tried to lock employee it is also working but the work flow not.Also the work flow not showing any locking failure status its just showing waiting. lock employee task is a background task.Thanks in advance.

Remove Caps lock/Num lock indicator?

I have a Lenovo B590 laptop with Windows 8. When Caps lock or Num lock is turned on an indicator is shown in the lower right screen and it does not disappear until its turned off. I want to either remove it or turn it off. It looks like this: I have searched this forum for a solution and, for some, removing Lenovo Silver Silk Wireless Keyboard has fixed the problem. But I do not have this program in the "Add/Remove Program" list. Any suggestions what to do?

Hi Guys Had the same problem. The indicator mentioned is for the touchpad lock. It comes on every time and just sits uselessly in the bottom centre of the screen. Fn F6 removes the indicator icon from the screen but of course now toggles the touchpad off so it will not work, So Fn F6 again displays the indicator icon (without the diagonal line) and toggles the touchpad back on and in a few moments the icon disappears. This is only a temporary solution until the next time I awaken the machine. Consequently I followed the recommendation above for ridding yourself of the NumLock and CapsLock indicators and so far it appears to have cured the problem. In the Screen Resolution properties the TouchPadLock is not an option so just getting rid of it completely seemed the only solution. If a moderator knows better then some further advice would be welcome.

Fixing Double-Checked Locking using Volatile

Oooh - what a scandalous subject title! :)
Anyhow, I was expanding my knowledge on why the double-checked locking idiom used in Singleton classes fails (after reading that JSR-133 is not going to fix the problem!), when I read http://www.cs.umd.edu/~pugh/java/memoryModel/DoubleCheckedLocking.html and found a spicy section titled "Fixing Double-Checked Locking using Volatile" (at the very bottom of the document).
As it is quite hard to find information (all sources revisit all the basic problems), I was wondering if anybody could back this up/refute it.
Just one more thing. I anticipate that many people who are researching this matter would like to have this clarified, so it would be beneficial to keep posts very much on topic. There is already a lot of information available about double locking failures in general.
The problem this post faces lies in a lot of statements saying "using volatile will NOT fix double-checked locking" that refer (I think) to the current JDK.

Volatile only checks that not more than one thread is accessing the variable at the same time (amongst other things of course), so in the example, it could cause problems. Let me explain a little here. Given a situation where two threads wish to aquire the Helper:
Step 1: Thread 1 enters the method and checks the helper status
and sees that it is null.

Touch pad Failure T400

Hello,
I apologize in advance if this has already been posted and solved.
I have a T400 and the touch pad just randomly stopped working. I tried to use the shortcut 'Fn + F8" to get the UltraNav Utility to work, but it threw me an error. It told me to enable the touch pad in the BIOS. I tried looking in the BIOS and the track pad does not have an option in the BIOS. I looked in a similar laptop and there is in fact a BIOS setting for this. I have already done a BIOS update and taken apart the computer to see if it got unplugged. I put it back together and it still didn't fix it.
Does this mean that my touch pad is dead?

I have a T400 that had a touchpad (Ultranav) failure and the problem was fixed by a systemboard replacement. Call this machine in for service if it is under warranty.
