TOUCHSMART 610 AND WINDOWS 8

It's official -
"WARNING:
HP Linkup, HP Application Assistant, HP TouchSmart Magic Canvas and all other HP TouchSmart applications are not compatible with Windows 8 and must be uninstalled before upgrading. Content created using the TouchSmart applications such as Graphitti will not be available after upgrading."
If you have fallen in love with the touchsmart apps (photo, music, magic canvas) then DO NOT UPGRADE.
But , I think there will be equal, if not better apps available with Windows 8. and more of them. and they will be updated. HP has put all Touchsmart apps in the grave. They are what they are. They will not be updated.

Ok, day 5 with windows 8 and anyone with a 610 should upgrade. The pluses outway the minuses by 100,000 miles. You are gonna lose the magic canvas and its apps by upgrading. But  there are already apps that put photos on your start screen. So its a matter of time before graffitti shows up. If a program( not magic canvas related) ran on your 610 then its gonna run in windows 8. When it say uncompatible with windows 8 . it means just that. it wont run native on windows 8. But if you go to the desktop, right click the program and run compatibility, then it gives it settings to run in its best enviroment (xp,vista,7). Hey, its running Sims 2 in xp mode without hiccup. And i have an old cd labeling program that hasn't been updated since XP and its running fine.UPGRADE!!! Windows 8 is different but you pick it up in 2 days and then your zipping around no problem. AND the free apps . and more arriving daily. UPGRADE.

  • Touchsmart 610 - installing windows 8 on a partition, error, not enough space on system partition?

I created a 150 gb partition to install Windows 8 so I could dual boot Win 7 and Win 8.  When I try to install I get a message that there is not enough free space on my 'system' partition.  The only thing I can think of is that it is referring to the system (reserved) 100mb  partition.  It only has 10 mb of free space.  Obviously the partition I want to install on has plenty of space.  Has anyone had this problem and gotten around it?
UPDATE:  Found the problem with my 100mb reserved partition.  I assigned a drive letter to it through disk management and saw a file 'test.vhd' of 55 mb.  I recognized this as a virtual drive I had created and deleted a few months ago!  Deleted this file and then removed the drive letter assignment, and Windows 8 installed on my partition in about 15 minutes.

  • Touchsmart IQ504 and windows 8 upgrade

I tried upgrading my IQ504 from Windows 7 to Windows 8 when it was first released and had no luck. Has anyone had any luck upgrading their 504 yet and if so anything specific I should know? Thanks!

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart IQ504 Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows Vista 64-bit and was introduced for sale on or about 13-Jul-2008... making it over 5 years old. Due to its age, HP has no intention of providing specific support or drivers for this model. Please read HP's position below.
    THIS is HP's position on Windows 8 support and any HP computer not originally supplied with Windows 8;
    1) Not all Windows 8 features may be available on all PCs.
    2) Your particular experience with Windows 8 will be determined by the capabilities of your PC.
    3) HP is providing upgrade instructions and drivers will be available for most Windows 7 systems sold after 1st October 2011.
    4) If you want to restore the original operating system after upgrading, you must create HP recovery media before you upgrade.
    5) Please note that if you purchased your system prior to October 1, 2011, HP has not tested these PCs or developed Windows 8 upgrade instructions or drivers for them. Upgrading such systems may be difficult or impossible.
    and
    Important information regarding additional limitations and requirements;
    1) Screen Resolution Requirements
    2) Limitations with DVD playback software
    3) Limitations with Blu-ray playback software
    4) Limitations with TV Tuner software
    5) Secure Boot & other UEFI dependent features
    6) Limitations with touch screen capabilities
"Windows 7 (also includes Windows Vista) PCs with touch screens will not have full Windows 8 touch capabilities after upgrade. HP PCs with touch input hardware designed for Windows 7 will provide a comparable experience for only two touch point applications after the upgrade to Windows 8. HP Windows PCs with touch input hardware will not support Windows 8 applications that require more than two simultaneous touch points. Additionally, Windows 8 edge swipes may not be available due to the recessed bezel on HP touch systems shipped with Windows 7."
    7) HP TouchSmart Magic Canvas and HP TouchSmart applications are not compatible with Windows 8 and must be uninstalled before upgrading. Note that content created using the TouchSmart applications such as Graphitti will not be available after upgrading.
With all of that said, you may be able to clean install Windows 8 or upgrade your current OS to Windows 8 and it may work but many of its features may no longer function under Windows 8.

  • Touchsmart 527 and windows 7

I have downloaded the W7 RC onto my touchsmart pc.....the HP touchsmart software seems to have vanished and i wanted to know where / how to download it.....the main thing i need to get access to again is the webcam.
    any help greatly appreciated.
    thanks

If you did a full install of RC1 and deleted the software, then you have to do a system recovery to vista and then do a Window 7 upgrade. You cannot download a full version of teh TouchSmart software from HP - only updates.

  • Can I change the OS of Touchsmart 610 from Windows Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro?

I have 610 1100me system loaded with Windows Home Premium 64 bit.  We bought it from Dubai and is in use in Pakistan.  It started giving problems after few weeks of use.  Its' hard disk makes noise and sometimes, system could not find boot disk.  Most of the times blue screen of death and hanging issues.  Any idea about this issue and how to fix it?  My observation is that the culprit is hard disk!
Also, can I change its OS to Windows 7 Pro or ultimate (32 or 64 bit)?  Where can I find all drivers for Pro or Ultimate?
Many thanks for your valueable advice.

    Hi,
Nearly nothing change interms of drivers required for Windows 7 (HP, Pro, Ultimate) unless you switch from 64 to 32 bit. You can reuse your current HP 64 bit drivers for 64 bit W7 Pro or Ultimate.

  • Touchsmart 610 will not boot from CD drive or USB device.

    Hi all
I have a TouchSmart 610 and I performed a standard restart but it would not boot. I tried the various options in restart recovery to no avail.
I made a win 7 recovery disk on another win 7 64 bit machine to try and repair the Windows os but I cannot get the PC to boot from the CD drive.
I have altered the boot order in BIOS so that CD is first. But when I try to boot up it goes to the windows recovery screen again.
I have an "ultimate boot" disc and tried to boot from that but same problem.
If I look at Bot order in BIOS it still says CD is first.
    Anyone got any iddeas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Grasper,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I understand that you're having an issue with the computer booting from CD Rom. I will do what I can to help with this.
Check the BIOS and make sure "legacy devices" is enabled.
You can also try and manually boot to the CD ROM. On start up if you press F*(F8/ F9/ F11/ or ESC. it varies per computer) It will bring up a menu with the devices you can boot from. If the disk drive is listed select it and see what happens.
If nothing happens it could be an issue with the CD ROM itself. You could try another drive in that case. If its still not working at this point, then it could mean an issue with the motherboard itself.
I hope this was able to help you out. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • TouchSmart 610 Touchscreen is not working (windows 7)

    Hey guys,
I have had my TouchSmart for about 2 years, and it's been near a year that my touch input hasn't been working, but since I wasn't really using it, I never followed up until last week. But I was pretty upset when I realized I had a 2 year warranty which was just expired on 02/02/14. I have tried all be basic things that has been suggested on this site or any other sites, such as running Windows update (and yes I installed the optional updates as well). I have also checked and updated all the drivers, and at this point is running out of options. I have a bit of IT experience so I think I know what I'm doing but I'm running out of ideas.      Any suggesstions?

  • Where can I download HP Recovery Manager for my TouchSmart 610--1150xt running WIndows 7 x64?

Many users would prefer a clean install of Windows with the option to install only those applications that they personally find useful.  Currently, if performing a clean install of Windows -- even if creating recovery disks and maintaining the HP recovery partition -- it is not possible to access the Recovery Manager with the option to re-install only the drivers and any useful preinstalled software.  The only options under these circumstances is to perform a system restore back to the factory state thus removing an separate clean installation of the operating system or reinstalling the limited number of drivers and applications available for the TouchSmart from HP Support.
If it were possible to reinstall the HP Recovery Manager software, it should also be possible to selectively re-install needed drivers and applications from the recovery partition using the "Software Program Reinstallation" and "Hardware Driver Reinstallation" options.  These options are not available from the boot menu or reinstall disks.
I have found downloads for the Recovery Manager software specific for Windows Vista and for certain specific HP laptops running WIndows 7, but I have been unable to locate a similar download for the TouchSmart 610 AIO.  Has anyone located a download of the HP Recovery Manager software applicable for the TouchSmart 610?

This procedure uses the original factory installed HP OEM Windows product key and HP OEM certificate and requires the HP BIOS to have SLP/SLIC v2.1. This procedure will install a completely clean Windows 7 installation and may require the installation of HP drivers. Some HP drivers and/or HP software needed by your computer may not install because the OS is no longer branded as "HP". Please create your personal HP Recovery Disc set before continuing with these instructions. Back-up all of your personal data and files before proceeding with this process.
    1) Download and unzip ABR Beta for Windows 7. Here is the main page to ABR for Windows Vista. Please follow the "How to use it" section for information and instructions on how to use it. These steps apply to Windows 7 as well. Perform the "activation backup" on your original hard drive with the factory HP OEM Windows installation, saving the backup files in several locations (USB stick, SD card, external drive, etc.).
    2) Download your version (the version that was preinstalled on your HP computer) of Windows 7 from Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River. Using the built-in Windows 7 CD/DVD burning software, burn the downloaded Windows 7 ISO image to a DVD.
    3) Install Windows 7 from your new "Windows 7 disc" to your SSD, following all prompts as needed. Don't enter a Windows product key and don't allow Windows to try to auto-activate. After the Windows installation is complete, run ABR "activation restore" to "install" the previously backed up product key and certificate. Verify that Windows is activated, if not activated... repeat "activation restore" until Windows 7 is activated.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I, personally, have used the above procedure with great success on many HP desktops and laptops. I can't comment on how well it works with HP TouchSmart computers as I haven't had one to experiment on until recently.

  • Touchsmart 610 beats audio on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
I have an HP TouchSmart 610 PC with Beats Audio.  After upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8, the Beats Audio button triggers the logo on the screen, but the sound does not change.  Is there an updated driver that is needed?
    Thanks,
    Wes

    Hello WesGipe,
I have read your post on how your Beats Audio button does not change the sound on your computer, and I would be happy to guide you towards a resolution! To begin, I will need to ask you a few questions:
What is the Product and Model Number of your desktop computer?
Has your computer completed all of its important Windows Updates?
Is this an on-going, or recent issue?
In the meantime, I recommend following this document on Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8). This should help determine if there is a hardware issue or not. In addition, I also suggest ensuring your drivers are all up to date by following this document on Download or Update Software and Drivers for HP Computers.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

  • Hi! My HP TouchSmart 600 and 610 pc are not working.

Can someone help me? My HP touchsmart 600 wont start then my HP touchsmart 610 is having some failures in its hard drive. Thanks in advance.

    Hello RichardRosal,
You’re having some problems with your touch smart computers.
    Do a hard reset.
    Power off the computer.
    Remove the power cable.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
    Run the startup test.
This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

    Hi Fanoos,
Although this post is a couple years old, I figured I would give it a reply anyway just so other people with similar issues have a little more up to date info.
AugyTek is actually the name of my repair shop, and this is a "fun" problem that I see all the time.
Regarding specifically the Touchsmart 610 system, when you see the flash like that, there is an easy way to tell exactly where the problem is originating from.
First, check your power supply "brick".  It should be warm to the touch with it plugged in and machine running.  If it feels like it is going to burn your hand, your PS is probably the culprit.  I recommend taking it to your local technical shop, or using a voltmeter if you have one to see exactly what it is putting out.  It should be 19v give or take a couple tenths of a volt.  Anything more than a couple of tenths off and your power supply is probably the culprit, and may have done some additional damage to the PC itself.
If everything is good there, now it's time to assess internally.  Power off the machine, disconnect the power supply, hold the power button in for a couple of seconds until the green light on the back is no longer lit.  Follow the instructions on the HP website to removing both the left and right covers on the back of the PC.  (Take proper precautions for static electricity.)
Take out the Hard Drive and the RAM.  replace the covers, but no need to screw them in.  Plug your power supply back in and power the machine on.
You should get one short and one long beep and nothing should display on the screen.  This is testing for proof of life from the board.  If you get no beeps, your board is malfunctioning and sadly with these it often is easier and cost effective to just get a new machine than replace the board.
If you get beeps, the board is fine and you need to replace one stick of ram after powering off properly again and then start it up.  You should be able to see the "no boot media" message it displays because the system will halt.
If the lettering is fuzzy, diminished, in a low resolution, or looks anything other than normal, the likely cause is video related.  You now have to determine to what extent the video is malfunctioning.
(Yes, I know that you probably arrived at this conclusion already that the something was messed in the video/display area, but I can't tell you how many times I have asked people if they have tested for other things and they say no or how do you do that?  By ruling out other malfunctions, you arrive with the correct solution faster.)
You can power the machine down and remove the back covers and carefully reseat ALL micro style cables that you can see.   There should be 3 in the top left, 2 on the inverter (the thing with the cover), and then 4 in the top right that are kind of hard to manage.  These cables are all related to power, with some related to video and the touchscreen itself.
So now boot the system up normally, if you still have the one second screen, then attempt to plug in USB devices, insert a CD/DVD, and if you have one handy, use a USB to VGA adapter.  If any of these things do not initalize/work properly with the typical windows sound when you plug them in, the likely cause is your motherboard, related to power issues.
If your board is not able to route enough power through it past the graphical chip, into the inverter, and the LCD, power USB devices, etc., this is a tell tale sign that your machine has issues supplying enough power to all these things.  This is why you will see the one second screen everytime you turn the screen on or wake it out of standby, because there isn't enough or consistent power to keep the system running normally.
Because it is fairly cost prohibitive and time consuming to replace the board, you can pretty much write off the system.
Now if your USB devices and Optical drive work fine and everything initializes, you may be able to get away with replacing the inverter.  These parts do go bad, and the inverter, which sits on top of the optical drive in the system is naturally exposed to heat from the DVD drive and is a really bad design flaw.  Replacing this may solve your problem.
If it is replaced and you still have the same issue, likely your problem is with the LCD screen itself, and again... not really worth it to replace it.
If it is your board and power issues, if you are hell bent on repairing this, and you are familiar with how to reflow a board, or know a professional that can attempt it, you certainly can give it a whirl.  DO NOT attempt the unprofessional ways to reflow a board as you see on some videos.  Whereas these methods can work, you need to have an intricate knowledge of electronics and temperature effects on circutry to even warrant attempting them.
Some people say a hair dryer will work, but the problem is then you dont know exactly how much heat you are at temperature wise, and a hair dryer will auto cool and heat it's coils as it sees fit to maintain it's own stability, where as a genuine heat gun will not.  Again, if you don't have experienced knowlege in reflowing boards, I wouldn't recommend doing it.
By reflow, I am referring to reflowing the solder in the board.  Unless a visible malfunctioned blown or bulged capacitor is present, reflowing the solder to it's original paths is done by the way of keeping the board level, and gradually and evenly heating the board up to a temperature to where solder melts.  Solder will naturally go back into it's original form at a certain temperature and reseal any cracks or breaks in the solder, thereby repairing the flow of electricity for that certain component.  This is also assuming the component that has the solder is not damaged as well.
This process is best left to professionals with proper equipment, because you can in fact to irrepariable damage to the board if you are inexperienced.  Being careful will not save you in this instance.
The one thing you want to remember with All in ones, and especially touch screens, is that they generate an AMAZING amount of heat.    Any blockage from dust or covered vent ports can quickly lead to your machines demise.  Due to the design of any All in one, heat has been, and probably always will be an issue with these units.
