Tracing a route in EIGRP and null0

Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year!
I am checking if routing is there from source to Destination IP 172.23.7.110?
During tracing i reach one device along the path and did
sh ip route vrf RC   172.23.7.110
Routing entry for 172.23.0.0/16
  Known via "eigrp 52", distance 5, metric 2816, type internal
  Redistributing via eigrp 52
  Routing Descriptor Blocks:
  * directly connected, via Null0
      Route metric is 2816, traffic share count is 1
      Total delay is 10 microseconds, minimum bandwidth is 1000000 Kbit
      Reliability 255/255, minimum MTU 1500 bytes
      Loading 1/255, Hops 0
What should i do on this device so i can reach 172.23.7.110 from here?
Is it ok to put static route on this vrf RC?
Regards
Mahesh

The additional information that you posted for Jon does give us the reason for what you are observing. Under router eigrp you have configured auto-summary.  Your configuration suggests that there are some interfaces in network 10.0.0.0. With auto-summary enabled when EIGRP is going to advertise out an interface in network 10.0.0.0 it will create a summary address for 172.23.0.0 and specify null 0 as the next hop.
Now that we understand where the summary route is coming from we can now begin to think about your other question - should you add a route for the address that you are trying to reach. As Jon has said we really need more information to be able to answer that question.
- should this router be able to reach that address?
- if so then how should this router learn that address?
- is the router where that address is located advertising that subnet?
- should the router where that address is located be advertising that subnet?
- is some device along the path dropping the advertisement or filtering out the advertisement?
When there are answers for those questions it will be easier to know whether you should add a route on this router.

  • Problem of routing between inside and outside on ASA5505

    I have a ASA5505 with mostly factory default configuration. Its license allows only two vlan interfaces (vlan 1 and vlan 2). The default config has interface vlan 1 as inside (security level 100), and interface vlan 2 as outside (security level 0 and using DHCP).
    I only changed interface vlan 1 to IP 10.10.10.1/24. After I plugged in a few hosts to vlan 1 ports and connect port Ethernet0/0 (default in vlan 2) to a live network, here are a couple of issues I found:
    a) One host I plugged in is a PC, and another host is a WAAS WAE device. Both are in vlan 1 ports. I hard coded their IP to 10.10.10.250 and 10.10.10.101, /24 subnet mask, and gateway of 10.10.10.1. I can ping from the PC to WAE but not from WAE to the PC, although the WAE has 10.10.10.250 in its ARP table. They are in the same vlan and same subnet, how could it be? Here are the ping and WAE ARP table.
    WAE#ping 10.10.10.250
    PING 10.10.10.250 (10.10.10.250) from 10.10.10.101 : 56(84) bytes of data.
    --- 10.10.10.250 ping statistics ---
    5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
    WAE#sh arp

    Internet 10.10.10.1 Adj 00:1E:F7:7F:6E:7E ARPA GigabitEthernet1/0
    b) None of the hosts in vlan 1 in 10.10.10.0/24 can ping interface vlan 2 (address in 172.26.18.0/24 obtained via DHCP). But on ASA routing table, it has both 10.10.10.0/24 and 172.26.18.0/24, and also a default route learned via DHCP. Is ASA able to route between vlan 1 and vlan 2? (inside and outside). Any changes I can try?
    Here are ASA routing table and config of vlan 1 and vlan 2 (mostly its default).

    interface Ethernet0/0

    All other ports are in vlan 1 by default.

    I should have made the config easier to read. So here is what's on the ASA and the problems I have. The ASA only allows two VLAN interfaces configured (default to Int VLAN 1 - nameif inside, and Int VLAN 2 - nameif outside)
    port 0: in VLAN 2 (outside). DHCP configured. VLAN 2 pulled IP in 172.26.18.0/24, default gateway 172.26.18.1
    port 1-7: in VLAN 1 (inside). VLAN 1 IP is 10.10.10.1. I set all devices IP in VLAN 1 to 10.10.10.0/24, default gateway 10.10.10.1
    I have one PC in port 1 and one WAE device in port 2. PC IP set to 10.10.10.250 and WAE set to 10.10.10.101. PC can ping WAE but WAE can't ping PC. Both can ping default gateway.
    If I can't ping from inside interface to outside interface on ASA, how can I verify inside hosts can get to outside addresses and vise versa? I looked at ASA docs, but didn't find out how to set the routing between inside and outside. They are both connected interfaces, should they route between each other already?
    Thanks a lot

  • FIOS not good ISP for gaming in North East, bad routing to canada and west coast.

    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Keep-getting-kicked-out-of-game-MechWarrior-Online/m-p/66...
    Yes the same thing has been happening to me. It also appears it was a problem back in january according to this thread....
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Routing-Latency-issues/m-p/525091/highlight/true#M34574
    Here is a past MWO thread started at the same time by a verizon customer.   I believe almost all of thise users have quit fios or quit MWO.
      http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/91680-higher-ping-times-after-patch/page__st__80
    Many people in the game believe its due to MWO patches,  but I think thats just a placebo.  I believe it is to do with the cold winter months and verizon not being able to handle the load.    Speedtests to any west coast, specifically vancouver server,  have the same results.
    I have called verizon, gone to live chat, spoken to many different supervisors and technicians and have gotten no help with this issue.  They basically tell me its not their problem.
    After doing many traceroutes and speedtests.   It appears I am  getting routed through europe to get to canada from NY, which just doesn't make any common sense. First verizon claims the link router sending us to europe is not owned by them. Then we have to prove to them that it in fact is with public business records and WHOIS reports. Which also seemed to be the case for others in that thread back in january.
    IT seems the issue in january might of been that particular router was geting overloaded  they might have fixed the circuit on that verizon link/border router in question. But now it seems the issue has been passed up the line to the next link router and now that next circuit up the line  is getting congested.
    Below you can see some traceroutes when I am receiving the bad ping:

    Going from 20 ping to 100 depending on time of day,  which seems to 24 hours a day now!   is a real tease and frustrating, and when there is packet loss or excessive spikes, thats when we lose the connection,  session lost messages,  black screen issue...etc...
    When reading that past thread,  The problem server back in january was tinet-gw.customer.alter.net [152.179.72.122]  (the one that routes us through europ)   but now it seems the burden has been passed up the chain to the next link/border router and circuit   internap-gw.ip4.tinet.net [77.67.70.94].
    Maybe the guys back in january were able to pressure verizon to increase bandwidth on the tinet circuit on tha verizon router in NY because they actually owned that server,  even though they originally tried to lie and claim they didn't.  Even if not part of FIOS,  and after the 6th hop.    Its obvious it was theirs cause it ends with alter.net,  was right here in NYC,    WHOIS reports gave verizons email,  and business records show they bought it in 2006.
    Fios doesn't contact DSL,  residential doesn't contact business...etc..  Its like this company doesn't remember how 9/11 happened!!!
    BUt Now the burden is on the the next link router  which routes to internap.  And that is a german server and part of tinet.net and is a different company that verizon does not have direct access to.    Verizon would not even email  the admin for me,  which many feel is unprofessional.
    You can try emailing that admin yourself or doing some trace routes your self and calling and pressuring verizon to address the issue themselves.
    It seems verizon fios can't handle routing people to canada,  especially in the cold months of the year.  They must not be able to handle their load.   It seems verizon fios is really a scam,  and fiber optics is just a pretty name,  but in reality is no different then any other network,  except locally.    The only difference we need to look at when buying bandwidth,  is pricing period.  The fact it is fiber optics means diddly squat!  And the more people that get fios,  i predict the worse their network is going to get.
       I have sent an email to the admin of that german server  {edited for privacy}  but I would be shocked if I got any reply.  Ridiculous for verizon to suggest I do that in the first place.
    People with timer warner in the same area  are getting constant 20-40 ping to MWO,  while verizon fios customers are getting terrible connections right now.

    What you are seeing here has nothing at all to do with what your speed is. Latency has nothing to do with speed, it has to do with distance and network congestion. Your local ISP, no matter who it is, can not directly affect how another company (in your case Internap Network Services Corporation) routes data. Now if there was a problem in a link directly connected to your local ISP, for example:
    4 94 ms 12 ms 10 ms ae0-0.NY325-BB-RTR2.verizon-gni.net [130.81.209.110]
    5 9 ms 15 ms 12 ms 0.so-4-0-1.XT2.NYC4.ALTER.NET [152.63.10.29]
    *from your tracert
    The above link is leaving Verizon local control and entering Alter.Net control, if there was latency on a regular basis there then this should be reported to Verizon as your local ISP and that will filter up to their NOC group who will contact Alter.net and figure out the issue with that link. If the issue is a faulty link it will get fixed, if the issue is a link undergoing to much traffic its ability to handle the traffic will either be increased where possible or routed around where possible. The whole issue of peer-to-peer networking is very complex (which is what the Supreme Court was reviewing by the way) and a number of issues come into play. If the connection point only experiences high traffic sometimes on a very limited basis then generally routing some traffic to different connections is what is done.
    Now in your later postes you show the following:
    8 38 ms 39 ms 39 ms xe-8-2-0.tor10.ip4.tinet.net [141.136.107.98]
    9 100 ms 104 ms 103 ms internap-gw.ip4.tinet.net [77.67.70.94]
    10 97 ms 99 ms 98 ms border1.te7-1-bbnet1.tor001.pnap.net [70.42.24.132]
    11 103 ms 103 ms 96 ms relay-1.mwtactics.com [70.42.29.65]
    That clearly shows the problem is inside the tinet.net (Internap Network Services Corporation) network. This network is also the network providing the link into this game server. What does this tell us? From what you are seeing it tells us that either Internap does not have enough bandwidth to server the amount of traffic down to this server or the game company has not purchased a high enough link. The latter is unlikely. Most likely the issue is that Verizon's Fios product is growing with more and more people are trying to reach that game from the Fios network. This causes issues at the link point, which Verizon apparently has taken steps to fix as well as those internal links going down to the game servers. Now your local ISP (Verizon) cannot help the latter half of that. One can hope the end user ISP (in your case Internap Network Services Corporation) will increase their internal bandwidth or router traffic around problem areas.

  • Metrics when redistributing a static default route into EIGRP?

    I saw a network working with EIGRP and resdistributing a static default route into it. I did not find the "default metrics" to redistribute into EIGRP but the static default route works and is redistributed. My understanding was that everytime you redistribute into EIGRP you needed to specify the metrics. How come this network is working? Can someone explain or point to a cisco document what explains it?
    Sample of the config:
    router eigrp 1
    redistribute static
    no autosummary
    network Y.Y.Y.Y
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 X.X.X.X
    Thank you,

    It's just one of those specific things about EIGRP and IOS, maybe a design choice. If they do use the interface as the seed metric then that would help explain why it's that way.
    Weirdly if you are using EIGRP VRF address family configuration on IOS and you redistribute statics you do need a metric.
    And I believe NXOS running on Nexus switches also needs a metric defined.
    Just one of those things you have to remember but it would be good if it was consistent.

  • Tracing a Route passing through firewall

    Hi Everyone,
    I am tracing a route which is passing via fw.
    Did sh route  on fw
    S    172.26.36.0 255.255.255.0 [1/0] via 172.26.253.30, XY
    looking to trace 172.26.36.0.
    i check the interface XY on ASA  it is subinterface with IP 172.26.253.16.
    So it means ASA is learning destination route of 172.26.36.0 via interface XY which is on ASA and next HOP IP IS 172.26.253.30?
    Also if XY is sub int gi0/2.12  does it mean that next hop device is connected to ASA physical interface gi0/2?
    Thanks
    Mahesh

    Hi,
    Opposed to Cisco Routers, on the ASA you always state the interface "nameif" behind which a certain network is located. So you probably have a configuration command on the ASA like below
    route XY 172.26.36.0 255.255.255.0 172.26.253.30
    This basically tells the ASA that
    Network 172.26.36.0/24 is located behind interface XY
    The next hop to reach this network is the IP address 172.26.253.30
    If you have access to the other networking devices and are just trying to check what path the traffic to that destination network takes through the devices then I guess you could track the MAC address of the next hop IP address to determine where that next hop IP address is located.
    If you are using Cisco routers you could do something like this.
    Use the command "show arp | inc 172.26.253.30" on the ASA to determine the MAC address of the next hop
    Use the MAC address if there are switches in between to locate the actual router that owns the MAC addressYou should be able to use the command "show mac-address-table | inc " to see behind which port the MAC address is learned on a switch.
    On any Cisco router you can use "show ip interface brief | inc 172.26.253.20" to check if the router has the IP address configured to one of its interfaces.
    If for some reason some router interface has multiple IP addresses you might have to simply use "show ip arp | inc 172.26.253.30" or perhaps "show configuration | inc 172.26.253.30" to start searching for the interface where the IP address is located.
    I guess also the command "show interface | inc interface|" might tell the interface where the MAC address is located.
    On some switch/router network you might be able to track connected devices simply with the use of CDP, but ASA dont support this and CDP on switches and routers might commonly be disabled.
    Usually when we are talking about any business network you should usually have some sort of network documentation that tells the locations of the devices and describes the topology and interfaces used to connect the devices. They should also contain the networks and IP addresses of interfaces too.

  • Tracing a route passing through ASA

    Hi Everyone,
    Need help on tracing a route IP 192.168.27.0  that is passing through ASA
    i did sh route on ASA
    S    192.168.27.0 255.255.255.0 [1/0] via 192.168.101.14, Xnet
    so this means that this ASA is learning this route statically through int Xnet  right ?
    when i do sh int on ASA  it shows Xnet as interface.
    what should be my next step?
    also i am able to ping this IP from ASA  but whne i do sh arp it does not show this IP 192.168.27.251 and mac address
    Thanks

    So I presume you have ASA5550 or you have bought addiotional 4 GigabitEthernet module.
    When you look at the ASA from the side where the physical ports are
    The usual ports (without the module) should be in the Right side
    The modules ports should be on the Left side
    The module should contain 8 ports
    4 Ports are for SFP slots (usually for fiber connections)
    4 Ports are for basic Ethernet connectivity
    The configuration should have some line "media-type" which defines which type is used "rj45" of "sfp"
    rj45 for Ethernet
    sfp for SFP module
    So GigabitEthernet 1/2 port should be to my understanding either the Third Ethernet or Third SFP port of the module depending on the above port configuration mentioned (media-type rj45/sfp)
    The ports GigabitEthernet0/0 - x are the ports that are in every ASA, Ports GigabitEthernet1/0 - x are the expansion modules ports
    Hope this helps. Hopefully I remembered that right.

  • See what routes your eigrp advertises to you?

    Hello guys,
    Today I realized that I do not know a command that could tell me what routes my eigrp neighbor advertises to me.
    I am on the hub ASR routers which terminates many DMVPN tunnels and I would need an effective way to see what routes one of the remote routers advertises to me, similar to advertised-routes in BGP
    How can I find it?
    Thanks a lot!!

    The only thing that I can think of is to filter your topology table with:
    sh ip eigrp topol all-link | i ^P|<ip address of neighbor>
    You'll get back all routes in the topology table, but the address of the neighbor that you filter will show and no others.
    You'll get something like below:
    R1(config-router)#do sh ip eigrp top all | i ^P|192.168.12.2
    P 2.2.2.0/24, 1 successors, FD is 409600, serno 8
            via 192.168.12.2 (409600/128256), FastEthernet0/0
    P 3.3.3.0/24, 1 successors, FD is 128256, serno 10
    P 16.16.16.0/24, 1 successors, FD is 2560025856, serno 9
            via 192.168.12.2 (2560025856/2560000256), FastEthernet0/0
    P 192.168.12.0/24, 1 successors, FD is 281600, serno 1
    R1(config-router)#
    If that doesn't work, the only other thing that I could think of is a tcl script to filter it out for you.

  • Router/gateway mode and NAT

    In a posting in this site, it was suggested that NAT replaces router/gateway mode as used on the WRT54GS.  I am wondering if that is correct.
    Why?  I have a WRT54GS (firmware v4.71.4, Oct. 31, 2007).
    This works:
    I have a class C IP block (full 256 addresses).  I have the WAN side set up with
    xxx.yyy.zzz.129 wan address
    255.255.255.128
    xxx.yyy.zzz.254 (default gateway)
    (this forces the WAN side to just use the high 128 addresses - I am only using 129)
    then, for the router IP, I have
    xxx.yyy.zzz.15
    255.255.255.0
    and DHCP is
    xxx.yyy.zzz.90 and 20 users
    The LAN side uses the low 128 addresses.
    This all works.  I have the WRT set up as a Gateway (not Router)
    HOWEVER,
    I tried this on an Asus 56U box which has the NAT setting but no router/gateway mode and it won't allow the xxx.yyy.zzz block to be used on both the WAN and LAN sides.   Is the Asus broken or is your answer wrong?
    Why was I looking at the Asus?  Someone recommended it to me.  I would be happy to use a Linksys box instead if you can tell me which one would support the router/gateway mode.
    My WRT54GS is working fine but I now have a Verizon Net Connect boax that uses VPN and VoIP and am getting a lot of delay.
    I was thinkning that a newer box might be faster.
    Thanks!!

    I've seen some of the new routers with cisco/linksys that it does have the capability for NAT to be disabled if that is what you are looking for. But I agree with the person above me.

  • Any speed difference between Apple Wifi Router(air express) and Tp link(or others) wifi router)

    Any speed difference between Apple Wifi Router(air express) and Tp link(or others) wifi router?
    I'm using a tp link router and sometimes it takes a long time delay for my 2 mac computers to connect each other. I don't know this is because of the router compability or the computers.

    Anyone knows?

    OK, let's try these................
    1 - Boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu.  When done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer.  Re-connect your printer.
    2 - Download & install the Gimp drivers. Make sure the one you install is compatible w/your OS-Gutenprint 5.2.8-pre1.   Repair permissions, restart your computer & re-connect your printer when done.
    The Epson model I have, in order to get it to print wirelessly, I had to install a Gimp driver.
    3 - Check out the following KB Articles:
    Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Connecting to a network printer
    Epson Printer Drivers v2.10 OS X
    Adding a printer to your printer list in Mac OS X
    Mac OS X 10.4 Help: The printer I'm adding says "Driver not installed"
    ======================
    If still unsuccessful after trying all of the above, the problem could be your iBook or human error.  You can either call Epson & ask to speak with a Mac savy supervisor or return the printer & find another that is compatible w/your current OS.

  • Temporarily routing System.out and System.err to a String

    Hi everybody,
    Does anyone know of a way to temporarily route System.out and System.err directly from the console into a String, then set it back to its default to the console? I know how to reroute to a text area:
    TextAreaOutputStream taos = new TextAreaOutputStream(yourTextArea);
    PrintStream ps = new PrintStream(taos);
    System.setErr(ps);
    System.setOut(ps);But it doesn't seem like there is either a way to reroute to a String or a way to switch back to the default routing afterward. Can anyone give me some advice on how to do this, please?
    Thanks,
    Jezzica85

    Too late to the party?
    import java.io.*;

        public static void main(String[] args) {
            System.out.println("To console");
            PrintStream old = System.out;
            ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
            PrintStream ps = new PrintStream(baos);
            System.setOut(ps);
            System.out.println("To memory");
            System.out.print("No 'ln'");
            //System.out.flush(); //needed?
            System.setOut(old);
            System.out.println("To console again?");
            System.out.println("earlier I wrote...");
            byte[] data = baos.toByteArray();
            String message = new String(data);
            System.out.println(message);
    }

  • I upgraded my iPAD 1 and now it will not connect to my wi-fi.  It does not ask for password.  It does recognize wi-fi name.  I have rebooted, unplugged router, 'forget network', and reset network.  Still will not connect.

    I have no idea what to try next.  Please help!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • I believe iMac is freezing because of interference between my Wifi/router combo unit and my Network Card.  What should I do?

    My mid-2010 iMac (Snow Leopard) has been freezing with a spinning wheel within 10 minutes of startup for about a week.  I can only force it to shut down by holding the power button - nothing else functions at that point.
    I've been to the Genius Bar 3 times, with no findings.  They did an overnight diagnostic, and found nothing wrong.  They reinstalled Mac OS X, and before I even restored, it was still misbehaving.  I can't recreate it at the Apple Store, but it does it without fail at home.  At length, I believe I've narrowed it down to the Wifi/router combo unit and the iMac network card.  When I turn off the router (entirely or just "turn off" the wifi), it oeprates normally.  If I turn off the ethernet (BOTH en 0 and en 1 - if either of them is on, I have problems), it operates normally.  If I have them both on, it will freeze.  What on earth?
    It doesn't matter whether the iMac is actually CONNECTED by wifi or ethernet.  Merely having them both TURNED ON is enough to cause the freezing.  Has anyone heard of this?  I can't seem to find anything on it.  My only recourse seems to be asking my DSL provider for a new router and seeing if that helps.
    Any other suggestions?  Thanks!

    I can't recreate it at the Apple Store, but it does it without fail at home.
    That's because when troubleshooting no devices should be connected except for the keyboard.
    You seem to have narrowed it down to your router.  Suggest that you call the router manufacturer to find out what the problem is.  If the router came from your ISP, call their tech support dept.

  • Router calls offered and Service Level calls offered differences

    Hi,
    I was checking the definition of router calls offered and service level calls offered. Could anyone please let us know the exact difference between these fields in t_Skill_group_interval table.
    Regards
    Deepak

    Hi Jameson,
    Thanks for the reply.
    I went through the database schema .I have some doubts regarding the terminologies.
    1. The component of redirect calls - Would like to know what it would be .
    2. The component - still unanswered within threshold . Would this mean the calls queued longer than SL .which means all the remaining calls which were offered to this skillgroup. Hence would like to know if the Service level calls offered should be equal to Router calls offered.
    3. I observe that Service level calls offered were less than the calls answered field. Would like to know the possible reasons. I was initially thinking that there are might be calls overlapping but its not so as per my testing. Please help.
    Testing performed :
     Added to this , there is one more field called "Calls offered" and i observe that this is incremented when the calls are answered.
    I performed to test "Service Level calls offered, calls offered , Calls answered and Router calls offered" .
    I made a test call and queued skillgroup at 2:27 pm and made to be in queue and answered in next interval 2:32 pm (crossing reporting interval)
    I observe the below,
    In 2:15 interval for the skillgroup ,
    Router calls offered = 1 , Calls offered = 0 , Calls answered = 0 , Service Level calls offered = 0
    In 2:30 interval for the skillgroup,
    Router calls offered = 0 , Calls offered = 1, Calls answered = 1 , Service Level calls offered = 1
     Would like to know if this are correct values.
