Tracked Reviews and PDF Versions

Is it possible to have a single master pdf that contains all comments, sign off stamps from many review stages that could be followed almost like a thread and was a definitive copy of a projects progress?
Currently we are hammering or Xerox/Canon printers and are looking to introduce a pdf review system. Our documents are created in Quark or CS4 products, printed out, given to the respective director who marks amends and then they are actioned in the studio, printed out again, etc. Only when the director is happy with the proof do they sign-off and then it progresses to the next stage.
In a simplified way our process as far as directors are concerned is as follows:
Creative
Copy
Buying/costing
Brand/marketing
Customer care
MD
Each of the directors (MD excepted!) can make up to 3 stages of amends before they must sign-off and pass on.
We've been testing the Adobe.com features and so far like what we see but given the culture change this would involve for some members of staff we have to make sure the transition is as close to our current way of working as possible.
Do we need to create a separate pdf (filename_v1, filename_v2, etc) for each amend stage and upload that, notify the required director, action amends, etc. Does the director get a chance to see what they asked for previously compared to the new master pdf. I know you can compare documents in Acrobat Pro so that the director can save the version they upload with comments and compare that with the next version but that would seem to involve copies of copies of copies lying about all over the place. Yes we could also insert the last commented version as page 2 in the latest version but complicated?
Is there a way of having a master pdf that has all comments from every stage so that the MD for example can view the whole process, comments, etc from within say the final pdf in almost a thread manner? Maybe make some review stages invisible from other reviews?
We've looked at the PDF review facility in Version Cue CS4 but haven't been satisfied with both from an operational perspective.

PDF Version

Hi all,
I am converting my smartform to pdf output using convert_otf; i have no issues here.
After generating pdf i need pdf document to be higher than 1.4(open pdf file>File>Properties..here you see pdf producer(which is SAP r/3 release 6.40) and pdf version 1.3
I installed adobe acrobat reader 9.0(which should produce pdf version higher than 1.4) on my PC and also did it on server but still no luck; Is there a place i need to install new acrobat reader?
I did check all the sap notes and sdn;they all talk about conversion of fonts/images etc and general conversion issues
Any thoughts/suggestions?

- OSX: Maverick to Yosemite = not recommended (check it out > http://roaringapps.com/apps)
- iPad: older versions as iPad2 should not upgrade to iOS7/8 (it's not supporting its hardware accordingly, it's designed for the latest hardware)
- iTunes (it's possible to rollback to 10.7 - 11.4, but you need to breech OSX system security framework)
- Pages (was a real alternative for many of us, each update reduced features and created incompatibility to older work files)

When I try to load a pdf in iframe and I disable PDF toolbar, Its working fine in Internet Explorer and lower versions of Firefox, but in Firefox 19 its not

When I try to load a PDF inside Iframe and I disable toolar=0 (as guided by adobe). I am able to see the iframe with PDF with no toolbar in IE and lower versions of Firefox (till version 14).
But in my current version 29, The PDF is visible with toolbar on top.
Can you please let me know the way to display pdf with no toolbar in Firefox 29?

Is it possible to have PDF and PNG versions of 'same' folio

Is it possible when copying over the articles to have one folio as PDF and another as PNG?
Tried doing this by setting up an alternative folio as PNG and copying across the articles that were created for the original PDF folio, but they still appear to be PDF when loaded into the new folio and previewed on tablet, even though it has been set to PNG.
Do they only get converted to PNG when published? shouldn't one be seeing thumbnails in the DPS Folio Producer: Editor browser window. Trying to preserve the meta data tags between folios, or do I have to re-export these files and re-input the tags and attributes manually.
I see there is a way of copying articles between folios at an admin level, would this result in a correct transposition of PDF to PNG?

We use the K4 publishing system, and haven't started using their plugin yet, as we are still 'kicking the tires'. That said PDF and Android don't play together so well, hence looking at a PNG version without having to re-enter all the metadata again, which is what happens with the method you describe above.
The trouble is that the meta data is not part of the Indesign document so we have to re-enter it all plus there is the open/checkout/checkin/close of all documents from K4 which is a royal PIA, so uploading the same indesign documents isn't really helping. If the sidecar file worked 'properly' then perhaps that might be a solution, hear its not quite there though?
So, copying the article across to a new folio looked like it might work but not sure why when it asks when setting up the folio, whether you want PDF or PNG specs those do not stay set or why they are ignored on copying to the new supposed PNG rendition.
Would the K4 plugin solve this? would it work for all formats if we are building an Ipad and iPhone and Android version of a folio from the same document sourced in K4.

It sounds like you may be experiencing issues on your non iOS 8 devices because iOS 8 is required to set up or join a Family Sharing group.

Not all content is eligible for Family Sharing.

Reader 9 - problem with pdf version 1.0 and descenders

2 big problems over here:
* Reader9 will not properly open files created as pdf version 1.0/1.x
all text is cut off about 2/3 of the way down, whether or not in fields.
* Any pdf file version above 1.0created with any version of GhostScript does not have the previous issue, However - no descenders of any font are coming out.
We do not have either problems with any version of Reader prior to 9

Xfdf and pdf works in Adobe Reader 6, but not with new versions 7, 8, X

I have a xfdf file which is created by querying a SQL data base and contains data for a pdf form; it works with Adobe Reader 6, but does not work with new versions of Adobe Readers (7, 8, 9 and X).
It is an intranet site running IIS 6.0 in Windows Server 2003 Web Edition SP2 with Adobe 6 installed and client systems include XPSP2, XPSP3, Vista, Windows 7 with different versions of IE, Firefox.
With new versions of Adobe Reader, click on the hyperlink launched the pdf form in a browser window without data; below is the link:

I have installed new versions of Adobe Reader in the Web server (to match what the clients are using), but results are the same – blank pdf.
I uninstalled the new versions and installed version 6 and the pdf and xfdf worked happily together, but we need new versions of Adobe Reader in the client computers.
Thanks for helps and suggestions – I have read articles about using iTextSharp to create pdf documents from .NET apps, but that would be my last choice.

Sorry, I do not understand what you mean by "the full version of adobe". Do you mean Acrobat?
I am also not clear what you mean by "review and scroll 2 documents at the same time"; please clarify. Adobe Reader (and Acrobat) lets you open as many documents as you want, but if you press Page Down/Page Up on one document, it will not perform that action on the other documents at the same time.

What do you mean by "uploading in Acrobat"?
(Note that if you change the size of text, it won't reflow, so you end up with a mess. Answer is, probably not useful)

To examine the conversion settings in Acrobat, do the following:
1. Select Edit > Preferences
2. In the preferences dialog, select the "Convert From PDF" category.
3. In the "Converting From PDF" list, select "Excel workbook".
4. Click the "Edit Settings" button to view your conversion settings.

Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
