Traditional Chinese Characters

My Blackberry Style will not show traditional Chinese characters.  They just appear as black squares.   Can I fix this?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It all depends on the OS that you are running on your BB...there are different versions for different languages to use. Start here:
KB05305Localization support for BlackBerry smartphones
You will need to obtain and install the proper OS, one that contains the language(s) you desire.
To install, the simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
5) Launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC. If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
Don't forget to backup.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

  • Captivate 5.5 pasted Traditional Chinese characters don't render correctly

    Hi,
I've been trying to cut-and-paste Traditional Chinese characters from PowerPoint (where they render perfectly) into Captivate, but they only get rendered partially. Here is an example
    From PPT:
    After pasting into Captivate:
What could be going on here? Obviously, the Win7 system can render the characters correctly, but why don't they all display in Captivate?
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Andy

Yeah. I've done that so many times it boggles my mind. Thanks but no star for you on this one, sorry.

  • Need Help! Traditional chinese characters not well in Adobe Reader on Win 7

We receive pdf fiels from our partner and it has gone well. After we upgrade our client OS to Windows 7. The traditional chinese charcters become some kinds of symbol. But it shows well in Windows XP with the same version 9 of Acrobat reader. Here is the font propriety of the pdf:
    Any idea?

Do you have the Asian Font Pack for Adobe Reader 9 installed?

  • Traditional Chinese Characters Not Showing

I am using iTunes 8.0 and imported my songs into iTunes. The titles with simplified chinese are able to show up but those with traditional characters showed up as strange characters.
The songs were imported from another PC with Windows Vista, the titles and tags are all in proper there. I just copied the songs from that PC to my MSI Wind.
Anyone can help out with my problem?

tried the software you recommended but it did not help. the characters are all jumbled up in the first place.
i did not do any changes to the tags when i copied to my MSI Wind. the tags are all right on my original PC, what could have went wrong?

  • PDF from Word 2007 ends up with scrambled Chinese characters

I have a problem with PDF files when converted from a Word 2007 document that includes Traditional Chinese characters and I hope someone might be able to help or point me in the right direction. After converting it to PDF via "Create PDF" from the Acrobat toolbar, the Chinese characters are all wrong. It looks like Chinese but none of the characters actually exist, it's all scrambled and useless. Converting English or German text works fine, so far, it's only the Traditional Chinese text that causes problems.
The strange thing is that prior to installing Office 2007, all worked just fine. I could convert Chinese text from Word 2003 without any problems and other than updating to Word 2007, nothing has changed. Any idea where to start trouble shooting and how to fix it? I've already tried re-installing and reparing both Word and Acrobat but no improvement.
OS: WinXP Professional SP3 (English system)
    Adobe: Master Collection CS4 (English)
Acrobat: Acrobat 9 Pro v9.1.3 (English)
PDF Maker: Conversion Settings are set to default "Smallest File Size Web"
    Word: Microsoft Office Word 2007 (12.0.6504.5000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000)
Note: Using "Save As" and select "PDF or XPS" in Word 2007 works fine, the Chinese characters show up properly in the PDF file but I prefer using the PDF Maker from Acrobat to create my PDF files.

I have found that WORD 2007, particularly with docx files, does some strange things to PDF files that you produce. It seems to break a perfectly good graphic into parts and send the parts to the PDF (not usually a problem unless you zoom in). We have tested with AA8 and AA7 with WORD 2007 and gotten these results. WORD 2003 worked like expected. It is almost as though MS decided to put some hooks in OFFICE 2007 for Acrobat. Normally with Acrobat, the graphics come out as a single graphic as stored in the application.
Glad you got the character issue to work. I use a job.settings file that is distributed by a publisher to get an "optimized" form of product for posting. Of course, optimized is always in the eye of the beholder, but I have been happy with it.

  • Unable to insert Chinese characters in Database

My problem is that I am not able to insert chinese
(to traditional chinese) characters into my tables in the
    database.
I have changed the character set to UTF8 while creating the
database and also tried the alter session command in SQL to
alter the NLS_LANGUAGE and NLS_TERRITORY (to say traditional chinese).
But this did not solve my problem.
Also tried all possibilites like getting Chinese characters
in my notepad by copy - paste from a Chinese web site
but while giving the insert into command in my database
    it takes some junk values.
    Someone PLEASE HELP!!!URGENT!!!
    Thanks in advance.

You mentioned in your first note that you have set your database character set to UTF-8? If so, then you are able to store and retrieve multilingual data, including Chinese and Japanese characters. Your issue is not the database. Your client OS must be able to support these languages as well. It is likely that your version of OS supports only Latin and Western European characters. By the way changing your NT regional setting only effects sorting, date formats etc. It doesn't help you change the languages that your keyboard will support.
1.To determine your Win32 operating system's current ANSI CodePage (ACP). This can be found by bringing up the registry editor (Start --> Run..., type "regedit.exe", and click "OK") and looking at the
registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage\ACP (there are many registry entries with very similar names, so please make sure that you are looking at the right place in the registry).
2.To find the character set in the table below based on the ACP you got above.
ANSI CodePage (ACP) Client character set (3rd part of NLS_LANG) (*1)
    1250 EE8MSWIN1250
    1251 CL8MSWIN1251
    1252 WE8MSWIN1252
    1253 EL8MSWIN1253
    1254 TR8MSWIN1254
    1255 IW8MSWIN1255
    1256 AR8MSWIN1256
    1257 BLT8MSWIN1257
    1258 VN8MSWIN1258
    874 TH8TISASCII
    932 JA16SJIS
    936 ZHS16GBK
    949 KO16MSWIN949
    950 ZHT16MSWIN950
    others UTF8 (*2)
(*1) The character sets listed here are compatible with Win32's non-Unicode graphical user interface (GUI). Since Win32's MSDOS Box (Command Prompt) uses different character sets, NLS_LANG needs to be manually set in the MSDOS Box (or set in a batch script) in order to handle the difference
between Win32's GUI and MSDOS Box. (Please see "NLS_LANG Settings in MS-DOS Mode and Batch Mode" in the Oracle8i Installation Guide Release 2 (8.1.6) for Windows NT, part# A73010-01.)
(*2) If you use UTF8 for the 3rd part of NLS_LANG on Win32, client programs that you can use on this operating system would be limited to the ones that explicitly support this configuration. Recent versions of Oracle Forms' Client/Server mode (Fat-Client) on NT4.0 would be an example of such client
programs. This is because the user interface of Win32 is not UTF8, therefore the client programs have to perform explicit conversions between UTF8 (used in Oracle side) and UTF16 (used in Win32 side).

  • Pls help - Displaying Simplified Chinese characters

    Hi all,
I am using Servlet to generate HTML.
    When I use setContentType="charset=big5" and out.println(" . . . ."); with Big-5 Traditional Chinese characters, everything is fine.
    However, when I use setContentType="charset=gb2312" and out.println(" . . . ."); with GB2312 Simplified Chinese characters, everything is trash with some ??????.
The internet browser in both cases can correctly set to the appropriate character set, that is, in the 1st case it is big5 and in the 2nd case it is gb2312.
    Pls help

It should be because the font provided cannot handle the characters. Java only ever sprays question marks or rectangles at you if the font you're using is incapable of displaying what you're trying to show.
I'd imagine that the system's default font is capable of displaying Big5 Chinese characters quite happily if it's working on the page. The problem will come when you switch the encoding of the page and the characters within it. The same default font obviously can't display GBK stuff. So switching the font (probably through the use of <FONT face=""> tags) might do the trick.
    Hope that helps!

  • All App failed when key in (few) Chinese characters with iOS5

    hi,
my iPhone 4 was upgraded to iOS 5.0.1. But when I key in certain Traditional Chinese Characters (e.g. 還, 或, etc.), the app stop and return to iPhone start up menu. It happens to all app's, including native app of Messages, Notes, etc. I checked with some of my friends who upgrade their iPhone to iOS5. Strange enough is no one suffers the same issue with me. So I wonder what went wrong with MY iPhone/iOS5?

  • Display traditional chinese

    Hi
I am now trying to use the JavaTV RI 1.1 which is just released.
The RI uses a XML file as it's SI source and parse the file to
create standard object which is specified in the JavaTV API
    for application to read SI.
One of the main difference between JavaTV RI 1.0 and 1.1
is that the virtual machine. 1.1 uses CVM instead of JVM.
Thus displaying traditional chinese (as well as other language)
    becomes a problem.
If I add traditional chinese characters in the XML file,
    how do I parse them?
And also, how do I display them correctly?
    Does the RI use unicode?

    Hi Howard,
if i use Font.createFont() to general font object that
can solve chinese display problem in RH 7.3. but i
thought, it's no reasonable way to use font object.
that is really bad for cross-platform benefit or you
need to carry font file with your application.
have a way to set default font use createFont()
object? In the past, I've carried the font file around with me. Given the number of graphics files, properties files and
other assorted garbage that apps are already carrying around, it's not too unreasonable to have to add a
TrueType font to the list of hangers-on (unless it's the size of Arial Unicode MS - 23Mb is a big ask sometimes)!
Given that TrueType fonts themselves are essentially platform-independent, I don't see it as too much of an issue. But that's just me and my experiences! ;-)
To set the font as default...
    try {
        FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("myFont.ttf");
        Font defaultFont = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT, fis);
        setFont(defaultFont);
    } catch (FontFormatException ffe) {
        System.err.println("My TrueType font is corrupted.");
    } catch (IOException ioe) {
        System.err.println("My I/O stuffed up.");
}There are various ways to set the font in even better ways, particularly if you're in a standalone app, but the above is at least a good basic one.
    Hope that helps,

  • Problems Embedding Traditional Chinese

    Hello,
I am trying to embed Traditional Chinese characters and I'm having issues.
I've embeded the font through the Flash IDE (property inspector), and I've used a regular TextField
    and a TLFTextField.
The TLFTextField doesn't seem to embed all the characters properly and I don't understand what
the issue is and how to fix it.
Here is a screenshot of the SWF. As you can see, some characters look like the device font.
On Windows, some characters do not display/were not properly embedded.
Has anyone else come across this issue ? Am I missing something ?
Any reason why no all the Traditional Chinese characters get embeedded ?
    Thanks,
    George

  • SAPFTPA Traditional chinese error

    I've done some testing:
1, dictation WILL listen as Cantonese if SIRI is set to Cantonese-Hong Kong
2, dictation defaults to Mandarin if SIRI is set to English
This happens regardless of the input method, as long as Siri is set to Cantonese-Hong Kong the dictation can listen to cantonese, and otherwise it can ONLY listen to mandarin.
I wonder if there is any way to individually toggle dictation language?  I do like siri to be in english but occassionally I wanna dictate in cantonese.

  • Traditional Chinese Hand Writing Input

Do anybody know when or where can I get the Traditional Chinese Hand Writing Input for ipad

Do anybody know when or where can I get the Traditional Chinese Hand Writing Input for ipad
There is no separate Traditional Chinese input of any sort on the iPad yet, but I have seen reports that you can use the Simplified Chinese Handwriting Input to create Traditional Chinese characters. Try it and let us know if it works.
Also tell Apple you want this added:

  • Traditional Chinese text display

Which regions of Nokia 808 pureview support display of traditional Chinese characters? Can the singapore model display that? Input support would be nice but not essential.

Thanks adrian, Nokia care point may be my last option.
As the phone is not being sold in my region, I have to import it from overseas. It would be easier for me to import the model that already has the language capability built-in. In addition, I'm not sure if my local Nokia Care point is willing to add language pack to an imported phone. I'm particularly interested in the Singapore model because it already fully supports simiplified Chinese and FM transmitter. Just not quite sure if it can also display traditional Chinese.

  • Traditional Chinese Charaters ??

Squares, not traditional Chinese characters, are displayed in the message box after running a java program, just like the previous version of JDeveloper. Quite inconvenient.

First make sure iTunes is set up for Traditional Chinese in preferences:

  • Mac App Store Hong Kong uses Simplified Chinese!!! No more Traditional Chinese?  Why?

I entered the Mac App Store Hong Kong using my Hong Kong Apple ID.  I was expecting to see the names and descriptions of apps  to be using Traditional Chinese characters.  But what I saw was Simplified Chinese instead.
How can I turn them back to Traditional Chinese?

I was talking about the OS X App Store on Mac, not the iOS App Store that you showed on iTunes.
While the mainland China has simplified Chinese and made Simplified Chinese commonly used in mainland China, Hong Kong has remained its traditional learning, teaching and using Traditional Chinese as the dominant and main written language in all non-English newspapers in Hong Kong and the education environment.  In addition, the phrases in Traditional Chinese are not the same as those in Simplified Chinese.
Thus, while the OS X App Store in mainland China is using Simplified Chinese, the OS X App Store in Hong Kong should be provided in Traditional Chinese.
