Transfer CS4 to new iMac via Time Machine

I used Time Machine to rebuild my drive onto my new iMac 27" (Intel Core i7) running OS version 10.8.2. I got "Code 150:30" when I tried to open my Photoshop (CS4). I downloaded LicenseRecovery 11.6.1, but the app failed to open. What next?

Receiving Code 150:30 lead me to the following Adobe link...
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html
This Adobe page provides an app (LicenseRecovery 11.6.1), supposedly designed to reinstate a licensing issue. When I opened the file, and tried to open the app that's suggested on this page, the program hung. I assumed the app hadn't been updated for Mountain Lion.
Wouldthis app address the issue if it had worked?

  • Transferring to new iMac via time machine - how to use Ethernet?

Hi, I am setting up a new iMac and transferring my files from my MacBook (2007) using time machine. I started the transfer wirelessly (foolishly) but it predicted it would take 36 hours. With the transfer still happening I have now attached an Ethernet cable but the countdown is the same, presumably because the wireless transfer is still taking priority.
Is it risky to abandon the transfer midway through? If not, once I have stopped it, how do I ensure the ethernet takes priority, considering that I am still at the very early stages of iMac setup (so have not gone through to the normal home screen etc)?
Another issue is that the screen seems to sleep every 30 mins, so I am not sure the wireless transfer will keep progressing overnight...?
Many thanks in advance for any pointers.

  • HT201250 old data transferred to new computer via time machine, is external hard drive still usable

I set up my new macbook from an old macbook via time machine and an external WD Harddrive.
The setup partitioned my macbook to two user id's, now I need to back up.
The old user id is backing up everything again and the new user id wants to create a new backup to my WD Harddrive like it is not used.
I don't believe that my WD was partitioned.
Help!  How can I continue using my WD and backup both user id information without losing anything?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one. • Photo transfer and update from 5-year-old Macbook to new iMac using Time Machine resulted in half of 2014's photos being un-viewable (only a gray triangle with exclamation point shows).  How do I fix it?

I turned on my new iMac for the first time today and set it up using a backup on Time Machine from my old Macbook, which is running OS X 10.9.5 and has iPhoto version 8.1.2.  When I went to open iPhoto on the new computer, it said I had to update the photos to work with the new version.  Now, my photos from part of July 26, 2014 and onwards do not show up in the new iPhoto.  The albums and spaces for the photos are there, but only a gray triangle with exclamation point shows in their place.  Every other photo from 2003 to half of July 26, 2014 appears to have updated without issue.  None of the fixes/rebuilds I tried worked.  When I open up TimeMachine, it has no backups that I can use for the new computer (perhaps, because I wanted to still have access to use my old backups for my old laptop so told it not to use them for the new computer).  My most recent half a year's photos are the ones I need the most.  How do I make them appear on my new iMac?

Do you still have the old Mac? Then check, if the iPhoto Library has the newer events from July 26 onwards.
If yes, copy the iPhoto library from the old Mac to the new mac by connecting both computers. And then try to upgrade the copied library.
If you no longer have access to the old mac, you could try to inherit the backup of the old Mac and try to restore the iPhoto Library from it.

  • Transfer files from dead iMac G5 to new iMac via Time Capsule

Hello, I just purchase the latest iMac. Just in time, as my iMac G5 died. It no longer starts up. I get a gray screen and the fans going full bore. Not a big deal since I also have Time Capsule and it has been faithfully backing up my G5.
My new iMac is up and running but I can't access my files on Time Cpasule. I access the drive via Wi-Fi. I get an error "Warning - Resource temporarily unavailable". Time Capsule shows up under the Shared Drives, I see the sparsebundle, double click and that's when I get the warning.
Is it because I'm trying to access the file via Wi-Fi? Do I need a USB to USB connector(which are hard to find)? I haven't called Apple Care yet, but I got to gain access to my old G5 files.
    Thanks,
    Mark

It is not possible to use usb cable to access files..
I am not sure why the wireless access is failing.. how old is the TC?
Let me suggest you pull the TC from the network.. plug it into the computer by ethernet.. then hold down reset.. that will not cause any data loss on the drive.. but will reset the TC to default.. then see if you can access the old backup via the ethernet.
    Read Q14-17 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
Note carefully about transferring files from a different Mac.
If you end up unable to do it.. have the hard disk removed from the old G5 imac as that may still work.

  • Transfer data from backup disc via time machine

    Thanks

TM won't try to do a new backup or delete old ones unless you select the drive and turn TM on. Don't do that yet.
You probably want to use Migration Assistant, in your Applications/Utilities folder. It gives you the options of transferring various things, but you can't pick, for example, only certain 3rd-party applications.
To transfer individual files or folders, hold down the Option key while selecting the TM icon in your menubar. That will change +Enter Time Machine+ to +Browse Other Time Machine Disks,+ and you can see the backups from the old Mac there, and restore them selectively in the usual fashion.
If your old Mac was a PPC model, be very careful transferring things that may not be compatible with an Intel Mac.
Once you have your new Mac the way you want it, your best bet is to erase the TM drive via Disk Utility (also in Applications/Utilities) and start backing-up the new one fresh. If you leave the backups from the old Mac there, not only will they take up a lot of space, but they'll never be deleted automatically by TM.

  • Transferring data from old imac to new imac using Time Machine.

Old imac is a 2006 that does not take Lion.  New Mac just purchased this month is a 27in imac.  I tried to set it up using firewire, but old imac wont join new imac to to the different versions of Snow Leopard and Lion.  I wnt back in and used the Time machine to start my back up.  New imac keeps going to sleep, bu I think it is stilll trasferring.  Old imac shows msg that Time Machine is unable to complet this task, but after clicking OK.  It continues to march.  I think I have 10 hours left on the transfer.  Is there an easier way to do this?

you are welcome. and here is a link to a pic of firewire connectors. the one on the left is FW800 and on the right is FW400

  • Transfer itunes to new computer from time machine

I have a new imac. How can I transfer my iTunes library from Time Machine? I keep getting a permissions error.

By any chance do you still have the old computer? If you do then copy /Home/Music/iTunes/ folder on the old computer to an external drive then transfer it to the new computer.
If you don't have the old computer then you have a little bit of a problem. Did you use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to transfer your files from the TM backup? Is the username (account short name) on the new computer the same as on the old computer? I'm guessing "no" because you are getting the permissions errors.

  • Transfer iTunes to new Mac from Time Machine, then sync with iPhone

    Hi everyone,
I just sold my old Macbook (everything was backed up with Time Machine) and bought a new Macbook Pro. Now I want to copy the iTunes library back. The problem is, even if I copy all the music, video, apps, iTunes U... from Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/... to the new Macbook, iTunes still thinks (rightfully) that it is a new machine. So if I plug my iPhone to it and try to sync, it will ask to *remove all my apps*, music, contacts... and resync again. That would probably *remove every user data* I have in those apps.
    Do you have any solution?

  • Migrating to new Mac via Time Machine: computers conflicting?

If I get a new Mac, and then during the Setup Assistant tell it to migrate from my Time Machine drive, will I have any conflicts with the old Mac? For example, will both computers have the same machine name? Will they be trying to write to the same Time Machine backup? I want to continue to use the old Mac, but want all my stuff on the new Mac, too.
    Thanks!

Yes, but you can easily change one (or both) via +System Preferences > Sharing.+
Will they be trying to write to the same Time Machine backup?
No. Time Machine keeps track of which Mac is which by its +Ethernet Address,+ which is embedded in the hardware on the logic board.
If you're going to be backing-up both Macs to the same place, see #4 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.

  • New iMac, used Time Machine to Copy Settings from Laptop, Having Trouble

Sorry if this is a common question, but I couldn't find an answer after searching the boards.
My new MacBook arrived three weeks ago. Like a good girl, I've been backing up with Time Machine and an external hard drive. No problems.
My new iMac arrived yesterday. While setting it up, it asked if I wanted to copy settings from a Time Machine backup. I said "yes" (should have said "no") and told Time Machine to copy my laptop settings to my iMac. I did not copy Applications or Documents--just account information.
My new iMac is now a bit confused. It thinks it is a copy of my MacBook (the backup of the iMac is called 'MacBook 2'), and it also thinks I have software installed on it that I don't have installed. Specifically, it is refusing to install a statistical program, stating that "Install has detected the presence of SPSS 16.0 for Mac. Please uninstall the existing version before installing this version of the product."
Here's my question: is there a way I can "undo" the migration that I did yesterday? I certainly wouldn't be losing any files or anything of importance if I could just take it all back.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Chaya

it's probably some preference file in the transfered home directory that was put there when you installed that program on the macbook. You can try looking for that preference file in library folder in your home directory or you can create a new user account and install the software from there.

  • Setting up a new iMac from Time Machine?

Had to replace my iMac with a new one of the exact same kind. I need to use the info on my Time Machine backup drive to restore my content to the new iMac. I know that during setip it will ask me if I want to migrate info from the Time Machine backup, but do I do this right away, or do I need to do Software Updates first? Or will Time Machine install all the updates and put the new mac in the same status as the old one was, including the 10.5.3 update I had installed? Also, do I have an option to just move my pics, music, mail, etc from Time Machine to the new mac, or is it an all or nothing process? I always worry that I might be migrated bad preference or system files as well as crucial stuff.
    Thanks!

Basically you need to start the iMac up using the DVD Installation disk that it came with, then use Disk Utility on the DVD to do a full recovery.

  • Migration to new HD via Time Machine Backup fails

I have a complete new install of Leopard on a brand new HD and tried to use a very recent TM backup from the old drive to migrate all settings. This has failed tons of times, always with 7 minutes to go. It always says that an error has stopped it from completing do you want to try again. I did all the repair permissions stuff before I backed up but to no avail. It tells me in the next screen, if you click skip instead, that it can't create the user from my previous backup (the only user there is)
Before I found out I could use TM as a way to migrate my settings I did a full backup using SuperDuper! and it ran into problems as well.
Anyone else with this sort of migration problem? I leave again for business in a couple of days and would love to have my new bigger HD in my MacBook! (preferably with all my old data!)
    Thanks,
    FT

And give yourself a pat on the back for having a complete backup!
Well can't be too happy with myself I learned this one the hard way... nearly lost all iTunes and Photos when a drive failed. Many MANY hours to recover all files. Now I have backups of backups and way too many internal and external hard drives!!! But they did their job this time around
OK so Drdocument you are a genius...the utilities version of 'restore from backup' was the ONLY thing that worked. I tore apart my laptop 12 or 13 times to switch the internal hard drive from the old to the new always without figuring out the problem. So I am super excited to have this working.
As for your installer question, yes it did give me the option to import data from a TM backup, that was the last thing I tried and it did not work either. Though the exact same TM backup worked when using the restore function, very odd.
Anyway, thanks a ton this makes life easier now that I have hard drive space!!!
