Transfer itunes library from one laptop to another...

Need Help.....
How do I transfer my itune library and everything related to my Ipod Video from one laptop to another?
Just bought a new laptop with a larger hard drive and I'm getting rid of the older one... In simple terms... I want to transfer everything from the old unit to the new one. Both units run Windows XP. Also need to know how to delete everything "Apple- ipod" from my old laptop, before I get rid of it... Any help offered would be greatly appreciated, as I'm somewhat computer illiterate....
Thanks!

  • How do I transfer my itunes library from one laptop to another?

I have 5 computers on my itunes account.  Main computer is our mac mini.  The rest are laptops.  I just want to transfer the exact library from one of our laptops which is a macbook pro to my new macbook air.

You can only have a total of 5 computers authorised to play your iTunes purchases.

See this User Tip for a suggested technique for backing up the library. You can use the same tool to "restore" the library into a new computer and then maintain an ongoing backup.

  • How to transfer iTunes library from one user to another

I have recently just got a macbook pro and i have transfered my music from my old computer to my mac but it has created another user that i do not want to use. I was just wondering how do i transfer the itunes playlist from that user to the user i wnat to use?

Just copy the iTunes Library folder from the one user to your main User account name.

  • Transfer Itunes Library from one user to another on same computer?

Okay. Was trying to clean my computer up the other day b/c the main user of this computer is no longer using this computer. So, everything is in his name and it was annoying me. So, I created a new administrative user and thought the itunes library would just transfer over. It didn't. So, I figured it would be easier to just change the main current user's profile to my name and tried to change the home folder name. When I did this it cleaned up the whole desktop and folders as if I created a new user (blank slate). So, now all my music is in this other folder and my memory is too low to import it into I-Tunes. Does anybody know how to get around this? I tried just switching the folder in I-tunes Preferences, but now it just points to that folder. The music is still just sitting there NOT in I-tunes. I'm new to messing around with MAC settings so I'm afraid I royally messed up my computer. Please Help

If you have already told iTunes where you want to keep the library (Preferences>Advanced>iTunes Music folder location>change), then now all you need to do is actually import all those songs into your library.
Close the pref's window. Go to File>Add to Library and add what you want to. I'd advise after that to also Consolidate your library (File>Library>Consolidate Library), IF you want to keep all your music in one place. Make sure you have all the music you want added first, from all the different areas of your computer.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • HT1918 Is there a way to transfer iTunes Store purchases or an iTunes library from one user to another?

Is there a way to transfer iTunes Store purchases or an iTunes library from one user to another?
Historically, I have my own laptop and my 8 year old daughter has a laptop as well.  I also have an iPad and iPhone.  In the past, I have managed all devices with the same apple ID, and used my laptop as the main library, storing all music, apps, video, etc.  I then  just selectively copied things to the other authorized devices, so my daughter's laptop has a copy of her music under my apple ID.  Now she has her own iPod touch, so I would live to move her music and apps to her own iTunes library with a name I create for her on her laptop and iPod.
Is this possible without having to repurchase all of her media?

  • Can i transfer my backup from one laptop to another?

I have my backup of apps and music stored in one laptop's iTunes account, how can I transfer my backup from one laptop to another?

iTunes downloads are not stored in a backup (that contains documents, files, camera roll photos, app content/settings etc), neither are the contents of the device's Music and Videos apps - instead a restore would look to pick up your music, films, apps etc from your iTunes library.
Your backups are stored under :
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.
You will need to copy the entire backup directory and copy it into the relevant directory on your other laptop - it should then automatically be picked up by that computer's iTunes and show on the Devices tab in Edit > Preference (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac) on it.

You can also use home sharing to copy content between computers : iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer.

  • Transferring external iTune library from one computer to another

I am having great difficulty in changing my external iTunes library from my old MBP laptop to my new iMac 5k.
My entire iTunes library is stored on an external drive and can be accessed directly with my MBP. When I started up iTunes on my new iMac, it created a new empty library in the MUSIC folder. What I want to do is connect my new iMac to the external library directly. I can see it when I turn on HOME SHARING but only when iTunes is running on my MBP, which is useless since my MBP will now be seldom used. I have of course on the iMac, changed the library location in the advanced preferences to the external location, to no avail. I do not want to keep any media files on the iMac for capacity reasons.
To compound the problem, I cannot seem to sync my new iPhone 6+ to the original external library, only the new empty one!
Surely this ought to be a simple job, transferring an external iTunes library from one computer to another! Am I missing something obvious here?

Wow, what a quick response! Thanks, Limnos. I guess it was bleeding' obvious, and I should have thought of it before. Such a simple solution!
On a related matter, I also have just realised that the iTunes iOS backups are saved on the internal computer drive in a folder called MOBILESYNC rather than on an external drive, thus chewing up a lot of capacity on my SSD. Others reading this response may be interested to know that it is easy to have iTunes save the iOS backups to any external drive using a symbolic link in this directory. Go to

However, note that iBooks will NOT let you use this work-around, pathetic app that it is.

  • How do i transfer iTunes money from one account to another

how do i transfer iTunes money from one account to another? also forgot security question answers

You can't, an account's balance cannot be transferred to another account, nor can it be used to gift content to another account - it can only be used to buy content for the account that it's on.
For your security questions, if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then you can use that to reset them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6170
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
If your country isn't on that page then try this form and explain and see what they reply with : https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
When they've been reset, and if you don't already have a rescue email address, you can then add one for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620
Or, if it's available in your country, you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570
