I gave my older 17” Mac Book to my daughter and recently the MB died. Its drive holds many photos and MP3s along with full Photoshop and other apps which do dot have installation CDs.
Yesterday I purchased a 15” Mac Pro off E Bay which has Mas Os 10.8. I have a spare WD Black 500G HD which I’d like to use in the “new” box with all the pics etc and apps from the dead Mac.
I have an external drive unit but see possible conflicts involved. So bottom line is how to transfer from dead unitS DRIVE into new drive in a “new” box. Feasible? TYIA

Ok. When you get your 15" and you run through setup, put your WD 500 into an external USB enclosure. Then clone the 15" drive over to the WD drive using Disk Utility and the restore feature. This will clone OS X 10.8 and it's Recovery HD to the WD 500. Install the WD 500 into the 15" MBP, boot from it and assuming all boots OK and you can get into OS X 10.8, put your dead Mac's hard drive in the USB enclosure, plug it into your 15" MBP and transfer whatever files you want to your 15" MBP.
Boy, I hope the above makes sense to you. Below is a screen shot of Disk Utility and the Restore tab. You would put your 15" MBPs drive name in the Source and your WD 500's drive name into the Destination and click the Restore button (showing as greyed out on the screenshot).

File transfers between two 10.9 Macs over FRITZ!Box AVM 7270 painfully slow, any ideas?

I am using a FRITZ!Box AVM 7270 as my WLAN Router and Internet access point.
Internet download rates are excellent (6 MB/sec), e.g. iTunes HD trailer playback starts immediately. However, local WiFi file transfers between my two Macs (2011 MB Air, 2012 Mac Mini Server) are embarrassingly slow. I typically see 60 kbit per second (even when no other transfers, up- or downloads occur). Copying just one 50 MB PDF from one Mac to another takes ten minutes.
The FRITZ interface shows that both Macs are connected using 802.11n (104 Mbit/s), signal strength is good.
I first suspected a problem with Apple's AFP protocol that was mentioned in several forums. But in the meantime, I have upgraded both Macs to Mavericks, which uses SMB as default. But even connecting via SMB "smb://mac1.local" has the same results: Dead-slow transfers. Activity Monitor shows some peaks at 150 kb/s when transferring files, but it's almost dead in between.
The problem occurs when copying in both directions (Mac Mini <> MB Air).
Any ideas?

Slow (stop/start) transfers between networked computers

When I transfer large files from my 2007 iMac to my networked windows computer the file transfer hangs(doesnt transfer any data) for a few minutes, several times during the transfer. A file that usually takes 30 seconds (on tiger) can take 5 minutes as a result. Can be a real pain.
This problems occurs via both WIFI and ethernet cable. It doesnt happen all the time but most of the time.
Any solutions to this?

I am not having stop/start trouble but file transfers between external FW 400 drives seems a lot slower than in Tiger.

The Sales org, Distribution channel, Shipping point, Vendor and Customer are maintained to created the delivery.
It is for the transfer of stock between storage locations with any movement type.
Eg: When you do a 311 movement type from Sloc A to Sloc B, then it will create a inbound delivery with the Vendor specified for Sloc A and an outbound delivery from Sloc B with the Customer specified assuming the customer and the vendor as the Plant.
You have to create a internal Vendor and Customer.

Though you may not get report for the same , but you can narrow down the check by using the table MSEG or MB51 using the moment types like 311 643 (sd delivery moments )which are for stock transfers .
or if you want storage location stock many reports are available like MMBE, or MB53 etc.

Direct Transfere between 2 Calls each on a different DN

Dears,
I have this client that used to have a PBX and now switched to IP telephony with CUCM 9.x
The operator used to have a feature that allowed him to do a direct transfere between 2 external calls while he himself steps out of the call (No Conferance).
I Need something similar to this other than starting a call with a Meet-Me number and transfering both call to that number. ( The Operators a Dum and found this proceedure very complicated and hard).
I Need a 1 button step solution like a Direct Transfere.

You need to enable this option “Join Across Lines” under phone configuration page >> change its value to ON >> save >> Reset the phone.
Once you enable that feature, and you have 2 active calls on the same phone, press on the JOIN softkey for the first call, then press on the second line, this will make a conference call.
Please make sure this parameter “Drop Ad Hoc Conference” is set to “never”.
Form CUCM webpage >> system >> Service Parameter >> select any server >> select “Call Manager” service >> Change this parameter Drop Ad Hoc Conference to “never” >> save.
When the conference start, the user can leave without any problem. (I have tested that in the lab and it is working fine).

This is a possibility. But please be aware using your Mac to emit a WiFi connection is a temporary solution. And it will get a short range unlike an actual WiFi Router. Also you may find it to be unstable at times. The Airport Card in your Mac was not designed to be a full time Router WiFi emitter. But more of a receiver to get the signal and use it for personal use.
1. Unlock the network on your Mac make it an open network
2. Go to your iPhone, Settings-Wireless-Tap on blue circle next to network name, Choose Forget network
3. Now go back, It will rescan and find an open network, Connect, and see if Safari works
If Safari works, Then you had a Security issue. Try using WEP 128 bit 13 character passkey or WEP 8 Character Passkey.

If not weather Lync server saves the files (which users are sending to another users ) anywhere on file system, or not ?

The actual File is not archived in Lync, but the file name is and will be have either _p2P or _conf at the end of the name to indicate how it was transferred.

With Photoshop CC it's possible to Sync a sub set of your settings across the Creative Cloud. However, you'll need to set up the CC account. Sync settings can be found under the Photoshop menu on Mac and Edit menu on Windows.

Data transfering between a mobile and F2M03GLA device using bluetooth

I am using F2M03GLA (which is a low power embedded Bluetooth v2.0+EDR module with built in high out put antenna).
I want to send and receive data from mobile to this device using bluetooth . I want to know wheather the data transfering from a mobile to F2M03GLA device is same as data transfering between a mobile to mobile. If there is any difference can u please specify me those differences.

Have you looked at the peer to peer stuff from Adobe? That might solve the data transfer without needing to stand up your own server.

Transferring Hard Drives between G4's

HI......I may have the chance to purchase a Quicksilver G4 (2002) from work.
It is the 800MHz model with 1.25Gb RAM and a 160Gb hard drive.....
It is running OS X 10.3.9..........
I am currently on OS X 10.4.8......
If I was to get it how do I transfer the hard drive across? (I have a Firewire cable I can use)......
Will there be a problem with the fact the new one has a older OS X? (I will obviously get rid of all of the work stuff before hand)
Will I have to re-install OS X 10.4 on the new one or does the hard drive transfer also transfer the Operating System...?
I did transfer the hard drive across when I went from my old iMac to the current G4 but I was also installing OS X 10.4 as well and it was part of the process.......
Any advice or comments are appreciated

If I take out the hard drive and place it into the QS does that mean that I will only have 40Gb (as per my old machine)........or will it combine with the 160Gb already there?
Neither.
You would have two hard drives in the machine - one 160GB, the other 40GB. Either could be booted to (provided there is a bootable OS on both), and the other used for additional file storage, etc. You would have a total capacity of 200GB, but it would not be combined - you would still have two drives (volumes), each separate from the other.
For example, on my G4/500 I have two internal drives, one of which has been partitioned into three volumes; I also have three firewire drives attached to it. All seven volumes have a bootable OS (they are of various versions); any of the seven can be used as the boot volume; all volumes are accessible and can be used no matter which OS I boot to.

Transfering between 2 computers through my ipod

i want to transfer songs to one of my computers to another through my ipod. is there a way i can do this? i try to drag the songs i want to the library, but you can't do that. i would really like to know if there is any possible way for me to do that. i would just use a cd, but that is the entire reason for transfering the songs...to burn a cd, b/c this computer does not have a cd burner in it....any info would be GREATLY appreciated!

If the songs are in your iPods library there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Can no longer move or copy files between drives (not a newbie issue!)

Copying and moving files between internal and external devices, and external to external devices is no longer working.
*For the first time in my life, I get a "Circle with a Bar through it" when attempting to move or copy files.*
This doesn't happen between the two internal drives at all (though I'm worried it might start). It happens between two HFS+J devices as well as HFS+J and FAT32 devices. I can delete files, create folders, and in some instances where things are acting funny, copy to, but not from the device. A noticed side effect that is now happening is that I can no longer move drive icons (CDs, DVDs, HDs) to their upper-right hand corner position on the desktop, if they didn't start there. They don't drop there, just staying where they originally sat (under a list of desktop shortcuts and files). It does not matter if the drives are USB or Firewire, and this never happened previous to about a month ago.
I have done all the basic stuff -- verify/repair drives, reboot multiple times, mount & dismount, change connection ports, backed up-reformatted-and restored the smallest drive, fixed preferences (not at all relevant), Disk Warrior repair the devices, set all permissions to R/W, check all device related infos, researched on-line for a week... Nothing. I have even taken the devices to PCs, where they work perfectly, and as expected.
This issue is apparently either a corruption, or a bug induced by Software Update, in the part of the system that handles files and file structures, or possibly the _USB and Firewire_ interfaces.
I just need to know where all those relevant parts are in the system folders, so I can attempt to restore them from a backup previous to the last "Software Update," (to be sure. And to bring this one step closer to being solved).
A system restore really is not an option, as that would require nearly two weeks of re-tweaking everything from the system to every piece of software included (updating the system about 10 times via software update, reinstalling 90% of the actual software packages... and then updating those multiple times, looking-up all the serials that get killed, etc.)
I have to correct this fast, as we need to move the files from the work drives to the archive drives before we run out of room. So any help would be very appreciated... even if you only know where a few of the system components are located (it just might be one of those, causing the issue).

The reference was to the User permissions, per each; as when these
become corrupted, the simple 'repair disk permissions' and other
basic duties do not find an error with them. That is because there is
nothing really wrong with them from that standpoint.
Another odd error can happen if one is resizing partitions in an Intel
based Mac, and also if one has or had a BootCamp partition and
wanted to reclaim space. But not always. Thankfully, the only time
I tried Windows on a Mac, the media install disc was corrupted so
it just didn't happen. That was Virtual PC and Windows on PPC.
Tiger brought with it the ability to non-destructively resize partitions.
However, it was not thought to be successful in non-Intel based Macs.
The discussion on that matter came up a few years ago, so someone
has undoubtably tried that in a PPC and reported findings online.
When file sharing between user-account created content runs amok,
then the system(s) will not allow the content to be moved or shared.
So, if any shared user-account created content (including drives
initialized or handled without permissions ignored, clones wrong,
etc) are not the problem, then how does one explain these wrong
ful action circles-with-lines, or action disallowed warning symbols?
There must be a simpler answer. Do you have cats which have
access to your computers in the off-hours? They do keyboard.
Some have been thought to have technical skills outside of the
usual coy and cute play-acting people think they are limited to.
I'm sticking to the cats theory for now; the time is 3:21AM here
and I only am up to get a drink and look outside at +5°F. calm.

When moving a folder between drives in the same catalog I get an error message

Hi everyone,
Lightroom Version: 5.0
Operating System: Mac OS 10.8.4
File Type: Canon RAW CR2
I recently upgraded from LR4 to LR5 and I've found that when I try to move a folder within my catalog but between different drives I get an error message saying that not all the files could be moved. It then refers to the .xmp side car files in the folder. However when I look at the source location the folder is empty yet still there and the destination folder looks like everything has copied over successfully. The files in LR seem to have all the metadata in tact along with ratings and colour labels. So not sure why LR is saying it did not copy over successfully.
Anyone else had this happen? Is there a work around other than moving the files withing Finder and re-importing them using the 'Add'feature?
Any help greatly appreciated as I am looking to move a lot of folders around my catalog in an attempt to organise it more and I would prefer to move these folders within LR but worried this may keep happening.

Great, thanks for letting me know Jim. As I said it did look as if the move had worked but I was just worried by the fact that an error message came up. Guessing this will be fixed in the next update. Is there any regularilty to the updates or are they just done as and when Adobe feel they are needed.
