Transfering catalogs from PC to Mac

Do I really need to use a hard drive as per the Release notes for Elements 9&10.
I have followed instructions in release notes and upgraded E5 to E10 on PC with the free trial sucessfullyand have tried to transfer the E10 Catalog to the Mac via both home network and memory stick. However when trying to restore on the Mac I am told that the file is not a valid catalogue! Do I reaaly need to purchase a external hard drive just to move one file!!?

-- just searched the memory stick for ".tly" once I knew what I was looking for. Strange thing was (is) the name I had saved it under and what I was looking/searching for didn't seem to exist. The system seemed to convert it to a generic "Back-up.tly"
Thx again.

I have recently transferred data from my old Mac to my new one. The result was good, but I have 2 users now, whose data I want to merge into 1 single user, so to avoid having to switch from one user to the other to view and use certain files. How to do it?

    Here's an easy way:
Pick the user that you want to eliminate (making sure that the remaining user has administrator privileges) and move all of the data that you want to keep into the Shared folder. Reboot or log out and login to the user you want to keep. Copy all the data from the Shared folder into your account - placing it neatly in folders (Documents, Music, Movies, etc.).
Once the data is moved, log into the account you want to delete just once more to make certain that you've grabbed all the data you want to keep. Log out and log back into your admin account and go to System Preferences>Users & Groups and delete the 'old' user.
    That should do it.

  • I have problems transferring files from PC to Mac and from Mac to Mac

I have problems transferring files from PC to Mac, and from Mac to Mac.  PC to PC is fine.  Nothing but problems with the Mac.  One example:
While working on my PC, I open shared folders on an external HDD connected to the Mac.  I click on paste to move the files.  I get an error after a few seconds to a minute of trying to move several files from my PC Win 7 to Mac OS Maverick, that there is a file already at the destination on Mac. This statement is true, but it was just put there because I am copying them over in that same action.  It reads 0Kb and wasn't there before I started.  Then I get an error: The Action Cannot be completed because the folder is open in another program.  Close the folder or file and try again..
Whether I click on it a bunch right of way or wait, it still takes about 45 seconds. I have to do it with every file and it only happens when copying from a PC to Mac.  I have even restarted both computers so nothing is using any files.  If I copy one file at a time, I don't get any error.
So I have one file to move, no problem.  If move 5 files, The first will go fine, but it shows all 5 files in folder at once.  All other files than the first show 0kb. I get the file already existing error once it starts the second file transfer, and I select move and replace.  Then I get The Action Cannot be completed because the folder is open in another program.  I wait or click repeatedly until it starts to move file.  That file will then show something other than 0kb.  When it is done, the error process starts all over.  I tried checking the PC with unlocker, but the files do not show themselves locked on the PC.

Its not only French. Even certain characters in English will come across as gobblydegook from 1 platform to another. I see this in emails that likely were composed in Word & the characters don't come across.
Not sure if this is still true, but years ago someone explained that there is a standard character set & then I think its extended characters & those vary from platform to platform or language to language, etc.

how do i transferring video from iphone to mac, i synced it but nothing shows up

I don't believe OS X has the ability to receive AirPlay (which is what you're using).  There's some advice on the matter on the Wikipedia page, though:

Scroll down to "Third-party software implementations".

I NEED TO SHARE MY LR CATALOGS FROM LAPTOP TO MAC AND EVEN IPAD WITH NO EXTERNAL DEVICES - I WOULD LIKE ANY EDIT I MAKE FROM ONE COMPUTER TO BE MADE ON THE OTHER - HOW DO I DO THIS ?? THANKS!!

All the info you do with your image files is stored in the Lightroom Catalog file. The Catalog file cannot be located on a network it must have a physical connection to the computer.
While the Catalog is in use a LOCK file will be temporarily placed alongside which prevents its use by any other device.

  • I transfered data from my old Mac, but now it tells me "No Access" when I try to open the files. How can I fix that?

I transfered data from my old Mac, but now it tells me "No Access" when I try to open the files. How can I fix that?

That's the problem, then. The files are under your 'old' user account. You should be able to access them if you log into your old account. However, that's not going to let you move them to your new user account. It's for situations like this that I always create a root user account (although I seldom access it). With a root user account, you can copy files from one user account to another. Note that someone may come up with a better idea than what I would use, but here goes.
Read http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528 and set up a root user. Then you can transfer files from one account to another. If you like, you can delete this account after you've moved your files.
    Good luck,

  • Transferring CS4 from an old Mac to a new one, I get a notice saying "licensing for this product has stopped working" Error 150:30. Don't know what to do? Thanks.

I'm trying to migrate my CS4 from my old Mac to my new one. When trying to open photoshop, i get a message saying "Licensing for this product has stopped working." And "Error: 150:30" I don't know what to do from here. Can someone help me? Thanks.

"Migrating" and/or "transferring" an application is not just asking for trouble but demanding it!
Always install an Adobe application from scratch, from the original media: CD or download.

  • Transferring photos from pc to mac

I'm having a hard time transferring my photos from my pc to my new mac.  I used Migration Assistant but the photos didn't transfer.  Anyone have a suggestion?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. See this Apple KB document on transferring files from a PC to a Mac: How to transfer data from a PC to a Macintosh
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Moving Photoshop catalog from PC to Mac - stalls at 'backup catalog step' - just keeps spinning with no action

I am attempting to move all my Photoshop Elements catalogs from an old PC to a new Mac; followed the online instructions and made good progress converting catalogs to Elements 12 (from 6) until I got to the step of 'backing up catalogs so I can load them on an external heard drive.  That's where Photoshop stalls - just spins and no action.  Any idea how to complete this so I don't lose all those catalogs in the transition?

stop the backup and try repairing and optimizing the catalog in the catalog manager (file>manage catalogs)

  • Problems transferring photos from iphone to mac, iphoto says there is nothing to download...

Hi, I need to transfer photos from iphone to mac. My mac can 'see' my iphone with iphoto open, but the box says there are no photos to download. Could anyone help me please? This has never been a problem before (it was fine about 2 weeks ago). I've tried turning both devices off and have spent a couple of hours trying to search for this problem on the internet. I can't remember when I updated to OS 7.1 but I guess that was recently; could this be the problem? Thank you so much.

This has nothing to do with iOS 7.1

  • External Hard Drive issues- Transfering data from NTFS to Mac

Hi. I need help deciding the best way to get my files from my NTFS external hard drive to be read/write able on my Mac Laptop (late 2008 macbook, 13inch). I know I need to reformat both of the NTFS external drives I own to either FAT32 or Mac OS (journaled), however I am unsure what the best way to do this.
The apple Genius told me to do the following:
Using my Windows running laptop, copy data from NTFS drive to a safe place on PC.
    Reformat drive to FAT32
Copy files from windows running laptop back to hard drive.
This sounds great, but I have been warned that FAT32 has many limitations. I have 66 GB of music and photos on the drive.
Clarifaction of what the limitations with FAT32 are, and any advice is greatly appreciated. I mean, how do people switch their data from PC to Mac? There has to be an easier answer.
    THANKS!

    Hi Kassluv17;
Before we can tell you the best solution, you must tell us where you wish to end up. Do you plan to migrate over to the Mac and have nothing to do with the PC in the future or are both a Mac and a PC in your future.

  • Transfering video from PC to mac

    Greetings everyone...
I've been learning quite a bit since I was informed a few hours ago that the
Windows XP based system at work will not write files larger than 2GB. But I could still use some help.
What we want to do is this: move very large video program files (40-50 GB) from a Windows-based Avid system to a Lacie Big Disk hard drive, and from there to my PowerMac.
Now Fat32 won't allow for the saving or transport of such large files, right? But am I correct in thinking that maybe we can format the Lacie drive in NTFS and thereby move those large files from Windows to Mac, since Tiger can now read NTFS formatted drives?
Or is there perhaps an easier and/or more reliable way to do what I wish to do?
Finally, would the "MacDrive" program I've been reading about be useful somehow in this sort of situation?
Thanks for thinking about this, everyone.
    - Derek

Thanks much, Tim, for all the info.
Unfortunately, another complication has arisen since yesterday. I've just found out from the person who edits the source material (it's a travel show) that the Avid system he uses will not export files larger than a few gigs. So much for simply moving a 40 gig file from one spot to another.
So now my dilemma is: What do I need to do in order to get the edited product from a PC-based Avid system to my PowerMac in a form that will allow me to then encode it with Compressor?
The Avid will drop the masters onto digital tape via a Sony HDCAM VTR [model HDW M2000)...here's a web page on the deck itself:http://interprod5.imgusa.com/son-810/site/pdf/HDWM-20001-sheet.pdf.
From there I suspect I'll need to firewire my PowerMac to the Sony, and using some sort of program (DVDSP4? FCP? other?), transfer in real time the program as it plays on the Sony deck into my PowerMac, where I assume it will end up as one, large, QuickTime-compliant file ready to be encoded. Is this scenario of mine anywhere near the mark?
As you might suspect, this is all well outside my field of expertise. Which is to say, I'm flying blind as a bat here. Heck, I thought I'd just need to learn DVDSP4 (which I am) and have all the needed assets magically arrive on my desktop. So - any and all help anyone can furnish me with on this dilemma may well qualify as life-saving assistance. Just bound to build up your karma rating as well.
Thanks everyone for reading and considering all of this...

  • Transfering Music from PC to Mac, but music does not appear.

I recently purchased a Macbook for personal use. I wanted to transfer my iTunes from my old Dell desktop onto the new Macbook. I followed the instructions on the Apple site to transfer music from an old computer to a new one using the iPod. Everything worked, until the finale step; I attempted to transfer the iTunes folder from the iPod to the music folder on the Macbook. It seemed to be working, but when I opened iTunes, the music was not there. I restarted the computer and still the music did not appear.
What should I do to fix this problem? Do I need to reformat my iPod from PC to Mac to transfer the music? On the instructions page, it did not say whether I needed to reformat the iPod or not, so I just followed the instructions. Please help if you can.

Yes, and the music trasferred, I can see it in the folder, but it's not displayed in iTunes.
