Transfering pages to a new site

I designed a page in one site and would like to transfer it
and all of its associated content to a different site. Any tips on
doing that in Dreamweaver so all the links are maintained?

Import the site into DW and then transfer it to the new site

I have finally gotten a separate .mac & iweb account for my business. Now I would like to take my business pages/site off my personal iweb account and transfer everything to the business iweb. How do you do that?

Hi there,
The only way to move iWeb pages from one user account to another is to move the Domain.sites2 file where iWeb stores its files. To find that file go to
User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2
If you can’t find it here search for it with spotlight. Note that the extension .sites (iWeb 1.0) or .sites2 (iWeb 2.0) may be hidden, also search for Domain only. To see if a Domain file is iWeb ’06 or iWeb ’08 select the file press Command(Apple)+i under "Name & Extension" you will find that it is .sites or .sites2.
Once you found it duplicate it (Command(Apple)+D). They are now completely independent from each other. So when you make a change to one site it will be saved only to that Domain file and not to the other.
Now take the copy of the Domain file and transfer it from one user account to the other.
To transfer your domain.sites2 file from one user account to the other you can put it on a USB-Stick, External Harddrive, on a CD/DVD or whatever. Not a great idea if you have a large Domain.sites2 is to send it by e-mail.
To get the site showing up in iWeb just open the Domain.sites file by double clicking on it and your sites and pages will show up on the left side in the iWeb page browser. Note that the location, where you put the file, doesn’t matter.
As you already created your and your business’ website they are both in the Domain file. What you then have to do, once you have it on both user accounts, is to delete your private website in business' account and the business' site in your private account. The rest will be preserved.
NOTE 1: Note that you have to change permissions of the Domain file to be able to edit, save changes and publish a website from another user account and from another computer as well.
Select Domain file press Command(Apple)+i under Ownership & Permissions go to =>Details =>Others and select Read & Write
You have to do that in the original user account and computer in which the Domain file was created.
If you don’t change permissions you will find an error while publishing and saving.
Remember to always have a Backup of both Domain files. It's REALLY important.

How do I link all site pages to a new site page?

I'm using Dreamweaver cs4 on a windows pc. I have 12 pages in my site with a vertical spry navigation bar. Each time I create a new page I then add that to the spry navigation bar. All the other pages don't show that new page in the nav bar. So, the spry nav. needs to be update site wide. Is there a way to update the spry navigation bar site wide in just a few clicks? Is there an easy way to link all the other page back to that new page? I have a template made but all my site pages are now detached from that template. Everytime I saved the template as a html file to create a new page the navigation bar had the word template in it so I just deleted it out of the code. As you can probably tell I'm pretty new to dreamweaver so any help will be greatly appreciated to say the least. I've checked pretty much everywhere I can think of for the answer

Yes, there are ways to have all the pages update when you make changes to a navbar. However, the way you describe the situation, you currently have to do it all manually.
Easiest way to update a navigation bar:
1. The use of serverside includes - here's a basic tutorial explaining what a SSI is and how it's done.

That's where you went wrong, you don't save the template with a new name and save it as a html file. You need use: Create New>from Template. This way you create a new page from the master template and save it into the root of your site - and this is called a 'child page'.

The differences between using SSIs and DWTs (template file):
With a SSI file, you make changes to the file and all pages with the include will will update automatically and you only need to upload the one SSI whenever you make a page.
If using a template, whenever you make a change, again all child pages are updated, but you have to upload *all* the changed pages.

WPC Problem after creation of new Site - no "Edit Page" Link available

Hello,
I have a problem with WebPageComposer (WPC) and Edit Page link.
We are currently on EP 7.01 SP6.
(I have the wpc_editor_role for my user)
I am doing the following:
1) I create a new site, (derived permissions for all folders is wpc_editor_role - Full Control),
2) I Create some article within its Site Content folder
3) I create a new web page in its Web Pages folder
4) assign the article to the web page and publish it
5) add web page within Site Navigation as a new node
6) I used Publish Site Navigation
After clicking on the web page within Web Pages folder it does a preview.
Our older WPC content does display the Edit Page link - the new one does not.
What step am I missing here?
Maybe it is an upgrade issue?

P.S.: copying one of our older WPC pages into my new site + renaming it via KM + removing old content + assigning new one does display the correct link after publishing it! Any indeas?

It sounds like your are doing all the right actions, I don't think that your missing any step in the process, but please consider the following.
Are you using a custom WPC layout template? The reason I ask is that I have developed a number of WPC custom templates and in some circumstances I have needed to remove/hide the "pageheader" section of the template. This action removed the links from displaying at the top of the page. Try creating and publishing a web page using a SAP standard WPC layout and see if the edit link appears once the page is published.
The editing and preview page views do not display the "edit" link, they only display the other page header links that can be assigned to a page. The edit link is only visible when viewing the page via the portal, not in edit mode. Another question, was the deployment of KMCWPC successful and without error? I have experienced issues where the deployment did not fully complete, causing some subtle issues regarding publishing of WPC content and redeploying KMCWPC fixed the issue. I hope this helps.

Why did moving pages to a different site cause scary glitches?

I'm an advanced iWeb (3.0.4) user with two iWeb sites: the OLD one, and the NEW one. I built all-new pages for the new site, but I dragged in two MOVED pages from the old site. Once I did this, the site will not publish. "Publish Error: an unknown error occured."
There's a few other symptoms:
-I cannot move the moved pages back to the old site. When I try, the blue "drag/drop" selection box freezes, and the pages do not drop where I drag them.
-I cannot delete the moved pages. When I click delete, nothing happens.
-When I click on the moved pages to view or edit them, they do not load. The iWeb window stays blank.
-The site will not publish to MobileMe or a local folder.
-The old site still publishes.
These solutions have not worked:
-Deleting the .plist and rebooting / clearing the cache.
-Moving the Domain file, creating a new blank site, deleting the new blank site, replacing the Domain file.
-Transferring the Domain file to another Mac and publishing from the new Mac.
I wish I could sit down with an iWeb expert and sort this out. Any tips from you guys?

Do you have a backup copy of the Domain.sites2 file you can revert to?
Can you delete items from the two moved pages (make a backup copy of the domain file first)? If you can try deleting an item and try publishing to a folder. Keep that up till you can publish. Then open the backup copy and delete that last item and see if you can publish. If it's just one item that's causing the problem this might be one way to isolate it.

The footer is not only to the left. To get the page number to the right you can use Format > Align right. That will make all page numbers move to the right. Is that what you want?

Website is now in centre of page, built new site using "cc" but with some problems

Hello everyone I said I would come back with the new site, and just as well as I'm having one or two small problems, starting with!
New Website, rollover buttons not holding colour in place when clicked
And someone has told me that it is a great site, but the images in the box with the yellow frame dont show up unless I tilt the screen at an odd angle, I think he means the hero image! and is sounds
like he is using a tablet

On each of your pages you need to add the class="thispage" to your anchor tags.
So the 'About Me' page link looks like below:

They are all quite a subtle grey tone but the one I cannot see is on the 'About Me' page. You just need to bring the grey tone up a few stops.

When I open iWeb it does not "Highlight" the New site or new page options. It ahs had this issue for over a year! I have tried uninstalling and re-installing it. What do I do? It opens the tutorial video, then when you close it, nothing else is clickable.

Open iPhoto, select a couple of photos and use the Share ➙ iWeb ➙ Photo page menu option. That has jump started iWeb for others. I could take a couple of tries.
If that doesn't work try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iiWeb.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder.

Troubleshooting suggestions:
Ensure the page you are linking to exists in the correct folder.
Check your file name for case sensitivity . Index.htm is not the same as index.htm!
Temporarily disable any rewrite rules by renaming your .htaccess file if it exists
is the problem with
iweb or with hosting?
One Apple tech started to fix Iweb and had to end session and the next said problem with hosting at Network Solutions as it published
to local folder. NWS has checked sttting a few times-
Any help would be extremely appreciated as trying to fix this for about five weeks

Why Can't I Add a New Page To My WP Site?

I have a Wordpress site. I wanted to add a new page to it. However, when I try, I am able to type inside of the "Title" box & I am able to type inside of the "Post Excerpt (Meta Description)" box. However, I cannot type inside of the main body box where the actual content of my page would appear.
This seems to be a browser issue because I can do it if I use Internet Explorer. Why does Firefox prevent me from editing or adding a new page to my Wordpress site?

Weird Save as... issue - New page not visible on site

Wasn't sure what to call this thread, but I'll try my best to explain....
Basically, I have a site which uses a database to show details of safari lodges in Africa, for example here:

So far so good - all working as it should.
However, we are moving the existing site to a new domain, www.goodsafariguide.net.
So I set up the new site definition in DW, copied all the files across, and uploaded them to the new domain. Pretty painless so far:

However, something with the database isn't playing ball - it should have been painless, as the two domains are hosted on the same reseller account, and so share the database. But the lodge pages were drawing a blank, for example:

I've been working backwards to see what's causing the issue, and got a page working (minus the contact form):
http://www.goodsafariguide.net/campkalahari/index101.php
So I figured I could at least get most of the pages back simply by saving as... and changing the LodgeID to the relevant ID for each lodge. But when I tried that, those pages were not showing.
I've now tried literally just opening that /index101.php page, and saving it as /index102.php, not changing a thing, and uploading it.
But that's not even appearing:

Sorry that was a bit long winded, but does anyone have any clue what might be getting messed up here?

Just to say I spotted the issue - was out of disk space and bandwidth for the account - it just threw me as it cropped up as an issue in the middle of me trying to figure out the original issue.

Can somebody explane how can I get iweb to open a new site or page?

I can't start a new site or page...since I've moved some page among different sites and the program got stuck. I did quit to start it again, but now it's not possibel to use iWeb.

I was reading futher the forum about deleting pages and sites and someone sugest to delete first a file from Preferences folder under Library.
And it's works on the first hit!

I have several news sites as my home page. Previously if i clicked a link...it would open a new tab at the righthand end of the row....now it opens in the middle of the row of tabs. Cannot find the setting to change back to righthand end of row

runung xp pro sp3....i use news sites(7 of them) as my home page. If i click a link on a news page...I am used to it opening in a tab at the far right hand end of the row of tabs. Since f'fox 5 , the new tab is opening in the middle of the row.....Can i change a setting to send the newie back to the right hand end?
