Transferring an HTML back to Captivate 6

Last year we had a consulting company come in and help us create some lessons in Captivate 6.0.  Some of the lessons they created are now out of date and we need to update/revise them.  I have the original Captivate file for all of them except one.  It was the first lesson they created and for some reason, I never got the original file.  I can't contact them without them billing me for their time so I'm stuck.  I'm trying to move the lesson to another location but the only thing I have is where they published it as an html document.  Is there any way to convert the html document back into a Captivate format so I can edit/republish it? Or can I import it like I can PowerPoint documents? I don't want to have to reshoot the whole lesson since it is rather complicated.
Thanks
Caylen

Sometimes it's just worth the cost to bite the bullet and pay them to supply you with the source files.
However, in almost all contracts I have worked on the clients saw the source files as THEIR PROPERTY by virtue of the fact that they had paid me to create them.  Inevitably, even though I always give the client the source files at the end of the project, they tend to lose them from time to time and ring up asking if I still kept my own copies (which I always do).  But since the files technically belong to them anyway,  could never charge mor than a small handling fee to send the files via courier or upload them somewhere for them to download.
My advice would be to contact the developers and beg for mercy.  You never know, but they might be more than willing to just hand over the files.  If they want to be unreasonable, trot out the wording of that contract where it states that all intellectual property belongs to you, and vaguely talk about "contacting legal" to ge it sorted.

  • Anyone importing HTML 5 into captivate

Wondering if HTML 5 animations and interactive elements can be imported into captivate without necessarily using EDGE.

Just to elaborate a little further, correct, you don't have to use Edge.
Also, Captivate can bring in .oam files (Edge animate, as you know) or .zip files.
I created a Canvas document in Flash Professional with a simple animation and published (publishes to HTML5 format).
Then I went and manually zipped together the resulting files.
They imported into Captivate using Media>HTML5 animation just fine.
Alternatively, you can take your HTML5 files that make up your animations (outputted from Flash Canvas document, or whatever software you're using) and put up on a webserver.  Then, grab that URL, and back in Captivate, go to Interactions>Learning Interactions, scroll to the bottom and choose WebObject.  Paste the URL in, preview HTML5 in browser, and you'll see it.
Kind of veering off your original post, for those with Flash expertise that need HTML5 animation, using the Canvas document type in Flash will create that HTML5 friendly format that you need.
If you have swf-based animations in a .fla that you need converted to HTML5, you can even copy and paste from a traditional .fla Flash file (that outputs to swf) into a Flash .fla (Canvas) document.  It converts over pretty well, although if you have actionscript, it's commented out.  For some animations it could be a great way to get swf-based ones converted to HTML5 quickly without having to re-build the whole thing.

  • Convert back to captivate

I mistakenly converted some of my captivate files to HTML
(Yeah, I know it was stupid). Can I convert them back to captivate?
I tried to just change the program the file opens with but get the
error that the file has been corrupted.

    Hi TracieTX
I think you are slightly confused. There is no conversion of
HTML to Captivate. Captivate creates output that uses an HTML page
to present the .SWF it creates. But Captivate stores all its
projects in files that bear a file extension of .CP.
Perhaps by reading that information and thinking about your
situation, you might reply back with a different description of
what you are seeing? This way we might be better equipped to
    assist.

was using my daughters itunes account and now have my own. If I "erase and sync" will I lose my data from my purchased games? I have transferred apps and backed up to my computer.

One computer iTunes can support multiple Apple IDs.  One iPod can also support multiple IDs.  Don't do an "erase and sync."  Simply add your Apple ID to the computer's iTunes and to the iPod.  The only nuisance is app updating, especially if you do the updates from the computer, rather than from the iPod.

  • How will my .json and .html backed up bookmarks import?

    Firefox 3.6.28
    OS 10.4.11
    Ibook G4
    Hi,
I back up regularly both as .json and as .html. With the .json back up, I remove the date each time I back up so there's an over-write and there's only one .json back up file in my Backup Folder.
I've never had to import bookmarks back into Firefox, but I've had a crash that's wiped out my Firefox bookmarks in the Firefox program where I kept the bookmarks in a very carefully indexed system of categories and menus that dropped down from the toolbar.
When I import .json or .html back into Firefox, will my menubars re-set to the way I had them? I remember from a long time ago using Safari, I restored backed up favorites, and what I got was a long list of titled links which wasn't anything like the way I'd set the favorites up in the first place. I hope I don't get the restoration like that this time with Firefox. In addition, when I press 'Import' from the file menu, I'm only given the option of importing from Safari. That's not what I want to do. I have "Backups" in a designated folder in my Documents in the Finder and that's where I need to pull them from.
There's something about "Profile" regarding Firefox that I've not known about that may have been something I needed to do in relation to Bookmarks.
I would appreciate any help you could provide to help me my bookmarks back in place.
    Thanks,
    Rafael
    PS Regarding "Troubleshooting Information".
I had to do it manually because the function doesn't support my veersion of Firefox.
"# A new window will open. Click on a button called Copy text to clipboard."
    Did That
"# Paste the info in the text box below."
    Did That
    * Click on the empty box above this text.
I don't see an "empty box above this text." The box above isn't empty. It contains my question.
So the following don't make sense because I already Pasted below.
    * Look at the top of your screen, and click the menu item called Edit.
    * A small box will open. Click on the item called Paste. Alternatively, type Ctrl+V or Command+V.
    * Some text will appear in the empty box.

Create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch Firefox with each profile.<br />
Then you can set in the profile manager which profile to use by default if you click a link in an external program.

  • HTML Editor for Captivate 7

Can anyone recommend a good HTML editor for Captivate 7?

Ummmm, why would you need a "good HTML editor"? HTML and Captivate 7 are two completely different things. Sure, it can output HTML, but normally you don't need a good editor to make use of it.
My guess is that you will see lots of folks recommending Adobe Dreamweaver.

  • HTML back button, controlling attributes...how?

I need a simple back button that will be on the image of a button. I have looked at JS and HTML, and I think HTML is the best route (because of the potential of JS being disabled); let me know if there are other issues of JS vs HTML I have not thought of.
The basic HTML is (I think, this does work):
    <INPUT TYPE="button" VALUE="Previous Page" onClick="history.go(-1);">
I would like to modify the following, and don't know how:
    Font (arial)
    Font Size (14)
    Link Format
    Normal (black no underline)
    Rollover (gray 999999 with underline)
    Visited (black no underline).
This will allow me to make it look like all other buttons in the site.
Can anyone tell me the code to control these?
    Thanks

I figured it out from google.

  • Anyone know how to track user progress in an HTML menu? (Captivate 3)

I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a few days, but I thought I would ask to make sure that I am not attempting to reinvent the wheel...
I have many individual Captivate 3 modules (final total will be around 50). These will be organized into an HTML menu that serves as a TOC. What I would like to do is include a graphic next to each module link in the menu (say, a circle, for example) that turns into a check graphic once the user passes the test for that module. This will allow users to keep track of which tutorials they've completed.
I see that Captivate 3 offers the ability to launch a JavaScript when a certain score is achieved on a quiz. I would like to somehow use that trigger to change the graphic in the HTML menu next to the corresponding menu item. Is this possible? I thought perhaps it might be done with a cookie. There are gaps in what I know about JavaScript, however, so I can't quite picture the flow of events.
We're trying to make this work so that the tutorials can run from a CD or a Web server. I do not have access to the hosting server, and I am finding this somewhat limiting, since you'd normally do this with a session id. There is also no LMS, and the progress information is for the users' benefit alone.
Any ideas? Or is this impossible?

    Hi there
Before you begin trying to concoct an elaborate solution, perhaps you might review Jesse Warden's Captivate Player?
Click here to view his site where you may download it
However, in grabbing that link and thinking about your situation, I'm thinking that may not work because it checks off the Captivate movie when it has been selected. You want the check to appear only after a certain score has been reached.
So I'm thinking you would do this using JavaScript and a form. The form element would be the check box. The trick here (as you are probably already aware) is to pass the variable data between pages.
Thinking out loud here: I'm wondering if you would gain anything by using a Frameset?
Wishing I had a neat solution to toss out for you. Unfortunately I don't. Perhaps someone else does! Hope they share it if they do!

  • .swf without .html flicker? (captivate cs5)

    Hello!
I have an issue with Captivate 5, which I did not have in the older version (Captivate 1).
When I publish our Captivate into a Flash file format : if I publish it with the "export to html format" box checked, everything play just fine, but if I publish it without the box checked (without the .html file), the .swf doesn't work anymore!
    By "doesn't work", I mean :
    the playback control bar is on top-left of the screen instead of being in the bottom-middle of it;
    the logo "projet created by adobe captivate 5" is flickering on top of all the content;
the page is running in loop.
The .swf must be loaded in one of our Flash document by actionscript (which is why we don't need the .html). As I mentionned before, our e-learning worked just fine before that way, we just had to make an update in the online training, when I saw that with the new Captivate it didn't work anymore.
Has someone ever encountered this problem? Do someone has any solutions?
    Thank you very much.

I've seen similar issues to the one you describe when you have some component in the project (possibly a playback bar) that is set as AS2. Captivate 5 will only accept components published as AS3.

  • Transfering offline HTML content to my ipad 3

    Hi.
I have a folder  called docs that has a list of html content for reading some programming documents offline.
i want to somehow transfer this folder into my ipad and browse/read throw these offline html files on the go on my ipad.
Any suggestions on how to do the above and what App i need to read them?
    Thanks

No, it does not connect to the Internet, so any external linked entities - images, style sheets, etc. - will not render. If your files are just self contained HTML, no problem. If not, which sounds like the case, you have pages designed principally for delivery on a web server platform (pretty much the case for most web pages) and may have difficulty doing what you are attempting on an IOS device.
There are some apps that will capture and display a page as a webarchive. I've experimented with a combination of iCab Mobile (iPad), dropbox, ShareFile, IE8 (Windows PC), and Chrome (Windows PC) and can't quite get it to work.
You might consider printing the files to PDF and then transfering over.. HTML isn't really engineered to do what  you need.

  • Transferring Time Machine Back-ups - Multiple Macs

    Hi
I have read the support pages for transferring Time Machine Backups from one HDD to another.  I back up both an iMac and Mac Book to the same Air Port Time Capsule, using Time Machine on both Macs.  My question is, do I need to use my iMac to transfer my iMac backups and my Mac Book to transfer my Mac Book backups, from one Time Capsule to a replacement one or could I do both from one Mac?
    Thanks

You should be making multiple HD clones and making data archives
I assume you have your vital data saved in more than just time machine?

  • Will publishing to html 5 in captivate 8 give me the same features as a captivate 5 swf file?

    Hi,
I have Captivate 5 and I use some features like audio, screen clicks and highlight areas.
I want these files to be mobile ready so publishing them in html 5 would be my solution, would buying captivate 8 allow for the sames features and interactions?
    Thanks for the help,
    Steve.

HTML5 will allow you to do most things that you can do with the flash output but for example highlight areas will not work because mouse over is not possible with an iPad or tablet in general. You need to change those to click boxes where the user taps on and the information shows up. Also any animation made with flash will not work. You will need to use adobe edge animate to create animations that work in html5.
Text animations also do not work. you will have to make those in edge animate or just use plain text with some effects (not all effects work for html5). If you have a sample that you can show us we can tell you what will and what will not work.
Finally most things that do not work can be substituted by something else that will.

  • How to get the "audio import option" back in Captivate 7

I need to insert audio over 4 slides in a 43 slide presentaton.  How do I get the "audio Import option" back so I can do this?

    Hi there
Look at the timing for the slide. If the slide duration is long enough to accommodate the audio clip you will not see this dialog. The only way I've ever seen it occur is to ensure that the slide duration is shorter than the audio clip.
For example, try inserting a blank slide timed for one second. As long as the audio clip is longer than that, you should see the dialog when inserting the clip. But if the audio clip would play for three seconds and the slide itself is perhaps ten seconds long, there is no need to present the dialog.
