Transferring Catalogs

I have version 4.1 LR on both my home desktop as well as my laptop.  I keep my desktop fairly well organized, and it is where I keep my image files for backup.....internal drive backed up onto an external drive.
My laptop is not so organized, and I am trying to clean it up.  I use it primarily for a working system, when I'm not home.
My folder system on my laptop is different than the one on my organized desktop.  Further, I may have image files on one system but not the other.
An example of what I do is as follows:  when I am away from home for awhile, I like to try to save my pictures on the Compact Flash card until I get home.  And, I also back them up onto my laptop and external portable hard drive as well.  Before I get home, I often will use my laptop and LR to edit certain photos.  I may in fact create new files when I create HDR images on my laptop.
When I get home, what I usually do is upload as soon as possible those original pictures from my Compact Flash card or external hard drive onto my home system so I have it there, with its backup.  However, what I have not been doing is exporting any catalog settings file from my laptop and importing it onto my desktop.
My question is this: if I export a Catalog file from my laptop, without the negatives (images), and if there is a mismatch between the files on my laptop and my desktop, whether that's because of the file structure differences or whether that's because my laptop may have slightly different files on it than my desktop has, will the Catalog settings still transfer properly?  For instance, if I have an HDR image on my laptop, along with any Catalog settings, and this HDR image is not on my home network, will a problem or error be created when I import the laptop Catalog file from my laptop without also importing that HDR file?  I would think that the catalog settings for that laptop HDR file would be there, but because the HDR file is not being transferred over, perhaps there might be a problem?
I know I should probably get better on my workflow while away from home, but for now, I'm trying to clean up the existing problem that may exist.
Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the response.  Basically, what happened is, late last year, I took a vacation and took some 1500 photos.  I put those on my laptop.  When I got home, I put those same pictures on my desktop, where I keep all of my images for backup.    In addition, over Christmas, I took some 400 pictures and also put those on my laptop while I was staying at my parents' place.  When I got home very late last year after Christmas, I put all of these photos on my desktop, as I always do, hoping to get to them, like those 1500 vacation pictures, with edits, keywords, etc.
Last year, I did not have time to do any edits of those 1500 vacation pictures or on those 400 some odd Christmas photos on my home desktop.  I was planning to do so early this year when, unfortunately, I seriously broke my leg.  After a long stay in the hospital, I decided to stay at my parents' place to recuperate.  And, while I have been recuperating, I spent some time on my laptop editing those 1500 vacation pictures and 400 Christmas pictures in LR.  In that process, I created a number of HDR photos from that vacation trip.  I also deleted a number of photos from that trip, as well as some from Christmas. So, with the deletion of those photos and the addition of some HDR photos, there is a mismatch between the files on my laptop and my desktop.
I could just copy all of the original files from the laptop back onto my desktop again, as well as transfer the Catalog....and I may very well do this.  But I am thinking of just transferring the Catalog settings to my desktop.....if this works, it would be faster for me to do so because I wouldn't have to bother checking which files are mismatched.  In order to fully duplicate what is on my laptop and put that onto my desktop, what I would have to do is to delete entirely the photos in question on my desktop and then copy or import the ones that exist on the laptop.  With some 2000 odd photos, my automatic backup system will take a while to run.  Not a big deal.....I can just let it run for awhile until completion, but I'd prefer not to if I don't have to.
And, I have a few sets of other photos on my laptop which are probably in the same way.  I'm just trying to clean up my laptop by essentially deleting some older photos, as long as they are on my desktop, and as long as I have any edits transferred over.  I know I need to get the original problem/mismatched issue straightened out, and I'm working towards that.....just need to fix what's already been done.
Thanks

  • Transfering catalog files from PC to Mac

Do I really need to use an external hard drive for this operation? I am transfering Elements 5 on PC to Elements 10 on Mac.
Ihave followed instructions on Adobe site and have upgraded to E10 on the PC with the trial version but could not see why it was necessary to use an external hard drive to transfer the E10 catalog from the PC to Mac. However, have tried using shared files across home network and also a memory stick but on both occasions I am told that the file is not a valid catalog file from which `I can restore. Do I really need to buy a external hard drive just to move a file!!?

Johnyonetwo your question can best be addressed in the Photoshop Elements forum.  I would recommend re-posting your question there.

  • Transfering catalog from PSE9 to new computer

I have read how to tranfer the catalog to a new computer.  Is it also true that the albums would also be transferred when backing up the catalog and restoring it to the new comoputer?  Since the catalog references the previous image files in the original computer where do you put the image files on the new computer(Windows 7)?  The image files on the original computer were stored in the my pictures folder in the document directory.  I am assuming that the images should be put in the Windows 7 pictures folder.  Is that correct?  Also, what do you do about the xmp files?

I have read how to tranfer the catalog to a new computer
Please tell us what you read so we can be sure we have the same understanding.
Is it also true that the albums would also be transferred when backing up the catalog and restoring it to the new comoputer?
Yes, if you do it properly.
Since the catalog references the previous image files in the original computer where do you put the image files on the new computer(Windows 7)?
Well that depends on my comment earlier. If you are using the PSE Organizer commands File->Backup Catalog followed by (on the new computer) File->Restore Catalog, you can tell PSE to put the photos anywhere you want. (By the way, since your question is "where do you put...", let me say that YOU don't put the photos anywhere, PSE puts the photos where you tell it to put them. "YOU" are not moving the photos yourself. I realize this is a minor point and comes up perhaps because of your choice of words, but I want this to be clear.)
The image files on the original computer were stored in the my pictures folder in the document directory.  I am assuming that the images should be put in the Windows 7 pictures folder.
If you are using the PSE Organizer commands File->Backup Catalog  followed by (on the new computer) File->Restore Catalog, you can tell  PSE to put the photos anywhere you want. Oh, but I said that already.
Also, what do you do about the xmp files?
If you are using the PSE Organizer commands File->Backup Catalog  followed by (on the new computer) File->Restore Catalog, then PSE will handle this for you. Advice: if you let PSE manage your photos, you never ever ever have to worry about the xmp files, because PSE takes care of that for you.

  • How do I get my catalogs from elements 8 to elements 11? [was:transfering catalogs]

How do I get my catalogs from elements 8 to elements 11?

    It depends...
If you are still on the same computer and OS, the Organizer in PSE11 (or PSE12) will be able to convert the old catalog to its own format, while keeping the old catalog unchanged.
If you are changing computer, drive or OS, the best method is via a full backup and restore:

  • Transfering catalog from one hard drive to another

I know there is a simple way of dealing with this query and hope that someone can help.  All my images are currently stored on a 3 Tb hard drive and recently I purchased a DROBO with 15tb of memory.  At the momeent I am using the Drobo as back up until the 3tb becomes full.  That time has come and I want to use the Drobo as the main drive for my images which contains exactly the same files as the 3tb.  I also copied the catalog file onto the Drobo so I thought that all I needed to do is open the catalog in the Drobo and it will automatically access the files in the drobo drive but this is not the case as it still accesses the 3tb files.  I tried diconnecting the 3tb thinking that it will try to access the files on the Drobo but then I get ? all over the place and it gets messy.  Can soemone help?

What is the easiest way to transfer Catalogs from PS Elements 4 on a Windows XP machine to PS Elements 10 on Windows 7 machine?
PSE 10 is loaded on new machine.  Catalogs are backed up on portable HD.  Photo files have also already been copied to new machine.
Do I need to install PS4 on the new machine as well before I move the Catalog filesw?

You'll get better answers on that in the PSE forum... I'm sure it involves some import& export mumbo-jumbo....

  • Transferring Catalog

    Hi,
I'd like to know if there is an easy way to transfer my external punchout catalogs from one srm system to another? Is it as easy as exporting & importing to the new or is it more involved?
    Thanks,

    Hi
Since it is puchout catlogs, You can maintain the same parameters whatever you maintained in your old system SPRO-->Supplier relationship Management -->Master data --> Define external webservices (Catalog, vendor list) - maintain your out bound parameters. and Define the catalog in PPOMA_BBP via CAT attribute.

    Hello Jagdish,
The dump "ITS_TEMPLATE_NOT_FOUND" is generated because the system called a dynpro that should not be called.
In your case, this is due to the RFC call.
Check that your RFC destination as got the correct user/password. Because if not, the system asks you to enter the credentials when requesting this RFC function. As this is not taken into account by the SRM web service, ITS failed (no corresponding template).
Test your RFC destination in SM59.
If ok, you can execute BBPSC02 in SAP Gui mode, add your SC item, and see the exact screen.

  • Catalog items visible to everyone, purchaseable only for some users

    Hello everybody
Me again trying to find a solution to the following problem:
We need to have some items in our catalog that are visible for every user but only purchaseable via shopping cart / SRM for some authorized users. I couldn't find any possibility in the customizing. So my attempt would be to add an additional attribute in CCM where I can put some kind of flag and then to construct an authorization check based on that flag and on a authorization profile. In case the authorization check fails, the catalog item may not be put in the shopping cart. Preferabily the shopping cart icon should be disabled for such items.
Did somebody out there already think about something similar or already implemented something like that?
It would also be a good basis for offering a publicly viewable, browseable catalog for "window shopping", because I also didn't find a way until now to publish the catalog as a standalone web application without shopping cart functionality.
What do you out there think about it?
    Kind regards,
    Renaud

    Hi Christophe
Thanks a bunch for your great help! I could solved the problem and am now able to have some catalog items visible but only purchaseable for authorized users. This is what I've done:
    1. Create a new authorization class (SU21)
    2. Create a new authorization object within this class
    3. Create a new authorization field within this object
Don't forget to save and quit the SU21 transaction and then reenter it (/nsu21) because only then you'll see your changes / additions... seems to be a "refresh-bug" in SU21.
    4. Create a new role (PFCG) and an authorization profile containing the new authorization object. Assign the values needed.
    5. Create a new attribute in CCM and assigned it to OCI cust_field5 (because this one is of type TEXT50)
    6. Implemented some code in BAdI BBP_CATALOG_TRANSFER:
    DATA: wa_et_sc_item_data  TYPE BBP_PDS_SC_ITEM_D.
    DATA: wa_catalog_content  TYPE BBP_WS_OCI_ITEM_S.
    DATA: lv_authorized       TYPE c.
DATA: lt_limtab           TYPE TABLE OF string.
    DATA: wa_limtab(10)       TYPE C.
    DATA: lv_message_v1       LIKE SY-MSGV1.
    DATA: lv_message_v2       LIKE SY-MSGV2.
    DATA: lv_message_v3       LIKE SY-MSGV3.
    DATA: lv_message_v4       LIKE SY-MSGV4.
    LOOP AT et_sc_item_data INTO wa_et_sc_item_data.
    * Get corresponding line from transferred catalog data
      READ TABLE catalog_content INTO wa_catalog_content
                                 WITH KEY line = wa_et_sc_item_data-number_int
                                 BINARY SEARCH.
      IF sy-subrc = 0.
    *   If field content for checking authority against is not empty...
        IF NOT wa_catalog_content-cust_field5 IS INITIAL.
    *     Perform authority check
          AUTHORITY-CHECK OBJECT '<your auth.object here>'
                          ID     '<your auth.field here>'
                          FIELD  wa_tab.
          IF sy-subrc <> 0.
            MOVE wa_catalog_content-cust_field5  TO lv_message_v1.
            MOVE wa_et_sc_item_data-ordered_prod TO lv_message_v2.
    *       Eliminate leading zeroes from product number
            WHILE lv_message_v2+0(1) = '0'.
              SHIFT lv_message_v2.
            ENDWHILE.
    *       Output message
            MESSAGE ID     'ZXXX'
                    TYPE   'W'
                    NUMBER '000'
                    WITH   lv_message_v1
                           lv_message_v2.
    *       Remove item from SC
            DELETE et_sc_item_data.
          ENDIF.
        ENDIF.
      ENDIF.
    ENDLOOP.
Interesting observation is, that when issueing the message with type = 'I' it does not condense the message text. With type = 'W' it does...
I also found out the reason, why the way via ET_SC_MESSAGES will not work: SAP <b>has hard coded</b> somewhere after the BAdI call the message id and message number... so no way to bypass this without a modification.
    Kind regards,
    Renaud

  • Can't save edited files from old catalog

I previously transferred catalogs with over 10,000 photos from Photoshop Elements (PSE) 10 to PSE 12.  When I try to edit photos from these catalogs in the Editor, it will not save the edited version.  It will save edits on photos that were not originally transferred from PSE 10.  I have a Mac with OS 10.9.4.  I received no help from Chat Support and was referred to this forum. I primarily want to edit the older photos from previous catalogs so this is major problem for me.  Can any help?

Thanks for the response.  No, that doesn't help.  I've been on the phone with Adobe for hours and they can't seem to fix this.  Very frustrating!

  • Unable to create SC from internal catalog (MDM)

    Hi All,
We have issue were user is unable to create SC from internal catalog. User can access the catalog, however when trying to checkout he gets BLANK screen. This issue is with all the items for that catalog.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Sunil

    Hi Sunil,
What is your IE version ? If its IE 8.0 please check SAP note 1511147. This contains settings that are needed.
Please also check the following note:
1264879 - Transferred Catalog items get stuck at Inbound Handler
Please maintain the ISO code of page on the webservice details as UTF-8 and retest. Also try, if you are using BYPASS_INBOUND_HANDLR parameter on the call structure with value = X delete this line and retest.
Another issue is that if the user does not have access to the product category their items will not be added to the SC.
    I hope this helps,
    Lisa

  • "Catalog launch failed" using PSE 5 on Windows 7

I loaded PSE 5 on a new Windows 7 computer and was in process of transferring catalog from old computer to new one using external hard drive with backedup files. I was able to restore the files successfully to the new hard drive on the new computer (using the Restore Catagog function in the organizer). But now the Organizer will not open in PSE 5 - I get a pop-up window "Catalog launch failed".  I also reinstalled PSE 5 to see if that would help, but same behavior continued. Anyone have suggestions to help? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried the first option - didn't work. Was planning to also upgrade to PSE 8 - so installed that and was able to convert the catalog to PSE 8 so now things are working well on PSE 8.

  • Moving photos w/tags from XPpc to Vista pc using the free starter edition

I have a pc with XP (SP2) with Album 2.0 on which I have a few hundred photos organized with tags and some editing .... many hours of "tagging" invested by me. I just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium. All I really want to do is be able to import all the exising photos WITH their tags, do very rudimentary editing - primarily redeye reduction, a bit of contrast change occasionally - and be able to add new photos, locate, view, print (home or photo kiosks) and send via email my photos (Outlook 2007) to others. I do NOT want to have spend hours re-tagging all my existing photos if I don't have to do so. From perusing your forum(s) it seems that may be a very complicated procedure for a non-expert user (e.g. I don't know anything about "Access" and don't want to take time to learn).
If I can do what I want (import existing photos into the free starter program (3.2?)) and continue to use that program for redeye reduction and email as well as organize using tags - that would be great. BUT - seems very complicated to me. Perhaps I should use some other free program that will be supported for a long time, like Picassa, and bite the bullet of spending many hours "re-tagging and perhaps re-editing?? It's always a guess as to how long progrmas will be supported, and both Google and Adobe appear as though they'll be around. But any advice will be welcome. I wouldn't be considering Starter except I'm used to to Album 2.0, and have all those hundreds of photos already "tagged" and used redeye reduction on many of them (and don't know whether Picassa or any other program would recognize the exisiting tags and/or the redeye reduction and other editing I did).
Thanks for any help - hopefully in as non-techie language as possible.
    Steve

Well I am reading the progress on your situation, trying to pick up some info. While I do not use the Elements starter edition, it has pretty much the same issues with transfereing catalogs from one machine to another and/or migrating from XP to Vista, as the other versions of Elements have.
I have been going through the gyrations of moving V4 on an XP machine to V6 on a Vista machine.
As suggested in other forums, I finally went to a two step process. First I added V6 to the XP machine that has the properly operating V4 on it. I did the conversion process to migrate the catalog to the V6 program. Yeah it does convert, but half the photos ( thousands) are disconnected. Reconnecting one and then doing a reconnect all does not work as suggested by others. Reconnecting all manually just aint going to happen.
I have tried the external hard drive thing and moved the catalog to the Vista machine but the results are the same.
While I am not an expert software person, I do have enough experience to know where the problem lies. It lies directly with Adobe and they have dropped the ball and put a seriously defective product on the market and so far have not fessed up the their responsibility.
