  • Opinions about the first generation iPad?

    Hi-
I've been considering purchasing the first generation iPad vs. spending more on the iPad 2.  I don't think I would be an iPad "power user" - basically just want one so that I can check email and surf the web.  Who's using the first generation iPad and what do you think of it with iOS5?  Any issues I should be aware of?
    Thanks!

The first generation iPad can only be found used at this point... I have no problem using mine with iOS5, but others have complained about it.
Keep your eye on March 7 - Apple has announced a "media event" featuring a picture of the iPad which could (nobody here could say for sure) be the introduction of a 3rd generation iPad. If so, it is possible that the iPad2 price will be lowered, or that it would be a good time to get a used iPad1 or 2 from someone looking to sell their old model and buy a new one.

Apple says that a minimum of iOS 5.0 is required. See the support document below. Look for Requirements on the left hand side of the page about half way down.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.

I have a first generation iPad and got my husband the iPad 2 for xmas.  is there a way to transfer his tiny tower game from my iPad to his without using the same iTunes account?

Apps are only tied to one account... You can set up two iTunes accounts on your computer, however, and let his iPad sync to his account. If he has never backed up his apps to a computer, however, he will have to redownload all the apps. Afterwards, he can backup to iCloud instead of your computer.

  • First generation iPad doesn't want to stream video from Amazon Prime. My iPhone 4s works. What's up with that?

i'm trying to stream a video from my first generation iPad to my Apple TV. I'm able to stream from my iPhone 4S using AirPlay from my Amazon prime account. The iPad gives me a small box with the title of the movie. I can hear the audio, but I can't see the video. I can stream YouTube movies, but not the Amazon prime movies from the first generation iPad to the Apple TV. What can I do?

Are both running the same version of the app?

  • "first generation Ipad powered down but now will not open/restart" What to do?

Please someone help me.  My first generation Ipad powered down but now will not open/restart.  What to do?

Well, actually that's no reset hole, that's the microphone hole...
So it won't start even when plugged in to the power? What happens, does it start to boot and not complete or does it do absolutely nothing when you press the sleep/wake button?
Have you tried plugging it into a Mac or PC running iTunes and resetting it to factory defaults from there?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

I updated my first generation iPad to version 5.1.1 and won't go past the setup screen that asks if I want to use the iPad locator. I can go back but can't get any further

I just updated my original iPad 32 GB WiFi to iOS 5.1 about fifteen minutes ago.  But I did it with the system restore feature in iTunes.  So it wiped out everything on my iPad.  But it did work.  Then I restored an earlier backup and all went fine.  Maybe you could try backing up your iPad and then using Restore to get it back to factory settings to see what happens.

  • HT4059 i have a first generation iPad and find i need to load an earlier version of i books but the downloads page does not aloww this ?

I have a first generation ipad and find i cannot now run ibooks as i need an earlier version but cannot find any clickable tabs on the ibooks download page that i am directed to ?

You should be able to download a compatible version. If the iBooks app isn't already in your purchase history thet download the current version on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in it. Then on your iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and see if you can download an older compatible version of it

  • Transfer content from first generation IPad to IPad Air

I am planning to move all of my content from my first generation IPad to the IPad Air. What is the best way to accomplish this given the older operating system on the first generation IPad.

After your updated your new iPad Mini to iOS 8.3 you have to put it back into setup mode to do the the restore from the iOS 8.3 iPad 3 backup.
To do this choose Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings on the Mini.

  • HT1212 I have a first generation Ipad.  the App Store icon has disappeared from my homescreen.  I have tried everything that is recommended and nothing works.  One of the steps asks me to enter a passcode that I have never set up.  ??? how to fix?

How do you retrieve the App Store Icon on a first generation ipad?

If you can't find it on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Installing Apps being set 'off' ? Is that the passcode that you are referring to, for the Restrictions screen ?
If it is and you don't know what it is then could anybody else have set it, and do you know if it was on the iPad when you last backed up ? If it wasn't then you can restore to that backup and it should be removed. If it was on the iPad when you last backed up and you don't know what it is then the only way to remove it is to reset the iPad back to factory defaults and you can then re-sync your content back to the iPad - you won't be able to restore to the backup as that will keep the code in place.

  • My first generation iPad

My first generation iPad won't turn on, it does not even show the battery sign. Its been like this for months, help?

First, charge it overnight using the charger that came with the iPad.  Do not use an iPod/iPhone charger and do not use a computer's USB port.
Then try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • HT5527 Why is it that when I bought my first generation iPad in October of 2010 the Apple sales rep at the Orange County California store suggested that I pay $99 for Mobile Me "coverage" and told me it was a "one time charge".

Why is it when I bought my first generation iPad in October 2010 the sales rep at the Orange County California South Coast Plaza store suggested that I buy Mobile Me service for $99 which he assured me was a one time charge and now, of course, Mobile Me has been discontinued and I've been "forced" to move to the Cloud and I'm being provided with another year of what Apple calls complimentary service with the clear indication that in a year I'm going to be asked to pay again for something I paid a one time charge for two years ago?

Mobile Me was the successor to .Mac (dot mac) which was "free" to all users but for a limited time. It included a free email address @mac.com and an amount of what we would now call "cloud" storage that went by the name of iDisk. iDisk worked great but with only dialup service for me it was barely useful.
So I didn't think much of dot-mac but lots of people thought it was worth paying for, so they did. Apple wanted to make it even more useful and integrate it with their portable devices which we all know as iPads and iPhones, and assembled a team to make it all work. This was to be called Mobile Me.
They failed miserably. Lots of people including me looked at the final product and said "huh?" Unfortunately for the Mobile Me engineers, one of those people was Steve Jobs. He first humiliated them quite publicly, then disbanded the team, including firing at least one senior manager who shall remain nameless.
This was the rocky beginning of what is now called iCloud, which is the "free" service I should have explained. iCloud includes an email address @me.com, and the 5 GB of "storage" which aggregates things like iWork documents, your email, calendars, Photostream, and iPhone backups.
You can buy more storage if you need more than 5 GB, but if you have more than that it's still free through September 2013.
What happens if you have more than 5 GB stored on iCloud and on September 2013 you don't pay? I'm not sure, but you have a year to think about it.
