Transferring photos from camera or memory card causes iPhoto to hang up with the spinning beach ball - why

Transferring photos from camera or memory card causes iPhoto to hang up with the spinning beach ball - why?  This happens only on a 5 year old iMac running 10.6.8.  It is a recent developmemt.  All other machines have no problen with the same card.

I click on the send feedback everytime it pops up with the force quit, so they'er getting it.
That sends a crash report. Its doubtful that these are ever seen by a human being, but more likely datamined. Sending feedback reaches an actual person.
My guess from yourdescription is that the portion of the OS (note, OS, not iPhoto) that manages the importing process is what's crashing.

And to diversify the use of that port, you could get this specialized adapter:

The cost of admission is modest - at $79 - for what all that it does.

  • IPhoto will not longer download photos from camera or memory card

Ok, I have iPhoto '08 and a Nikon D70 camera. This morning I went to download photos from the camera and it was slower than usual to connect to the computer. All the photos show up as usual but when I click to import them I get a message and it can't download any of the photos because they are an unknown format.
I took the card out of the camera and put it in a card reader and got the same message.
Neither the camera OR the card reader showed up as a device when I ran the image transfer app.
Using the card reader and the Finder, I was able to copy all the pictures to a folder which I was then able to import into iPhoto. After than I used the camera to reformat the card and took a test picture and got the same error messages.
    So, any ideas?

I found a solution in a couple of other threads. The main problem is when you start iPhoto from the dock, the unix process is owned by root, and not as it should be, by you. If you start iPhoto from the Terminal by entering /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto, iPhoto is able to import the images.
I don't believe that starting the applications from Terminal is a good solution, so I looked for another - reinstalling Leopard seems to be the best option, and it actually works. I can now import images to iPhoto again.

  • Transfering pictures from Droid Razor Memory Card to Macbook Pro Laptop!

I have a Droid Razor & I'm trying to transfer my pictures from my memory card to my Macbook Pro Laptop. It's not working. Can someone please help me nobody seems to know anything about how this is done through Apple or Verizon. I can transfer my pictures onto my Dell Desktop with no problem. I'm getting very frustrated. I knew I should have bought the IPHONE but Verizon talked me out of it! Please someone help me A.S.A.P.
    Thanks So Much,  Ann

Thanks Mike for getting back with me. I'm trying to uninstall VCast from my laptop now. Hope it works. I've had my Droid Razor just before Christmas, my husband bought it for me for a Christmas gift. Now when I slide the bar across to unlock the phone it goes real slow. I'm really not very happy with this phone at all, but I guess I'm stuck with it. What do you think as far as to which you think is the better phone the IPhone or Droid Razor. I'm having a hard time uninstalling VCast from my apple too. If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much.    Ann

Thanks for following up Ann. When you plug in your RAZR, is VCast opening up on your laptop? If so, I suggest uninstalling it from the laptop so it does not interfere with what we're trying to do.  When multiple programs are trying to read the same USB device, it causes conflicts. As far as the iPhone goes, if you're still within your 14-day exchange period, feel free to exchange the device for one that you want.  Please keep me updated when you have the time.  Thanks, MikeS_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport

  • How to upload photos from iPad to memory card or pc

how to upload photos from iPad to memory card or PC

You can't upload to a memory card.
You can connect the iPad with your computer and then go to (this) Computer see there your iPad as external drive, open it and look for the maps with photos to copy them to your computer.
    Otherwise you can use free Dropbox to transfer and share your photos wireless to your computer and others;

Why do I get the spinning beach ball when I try to change from Events to Photos.  How do I fix it?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I cant upload photos to send as email i keep geeting the spinning beach ball that freezes the whole system can anybody tel me how to get ovet this problem please (explain for a dummy please)

    Hi,
I have a Folder called "Pictures"  (My Pictures seems a bit "Windowsy" to me)
I don't have a Media folder inside there.
It would help to know if this is actually within the iTunes Library
Having said that I tend to use Eric's Method.
Pic of My own Card in the Contacts list
It shows where I have used Faces (from iPhoto) and Defaults (Login pic choices for the Account pic).
My iChat/Messages pic is the same Signature pic as used here and is in the Recents Tab on show.
You can even use the Camera if one is attached (Mac Minis and Mac Pro require External Cameras).
Drag and Drop is my preferred method.

  • Difficulty in transferring photos from camera

Since the last software update, why can I no longer upload images from my digital camera to my Macbook using Iphoto ? The laptop does no seem to recognise the camera or memory card.

Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try from there.  If it works then reboot normally and try again.
If those fail you can use a card reader to upload the photos from the memory card or use Image Capture with the camera connected to the Mac.
Don't let iPhoto delete the photos from the card.  Always do that with the camera.  This avoids loosing photos if the upload to iPhoto goes south.

Cannot transfer photos and videos from sandisk micro memory card reader to i photo in mac book pro.  The photos were taken on my samsung phone.  The chip was then placed in the sandisk and plugged into laptop.  They appear in finder window but I don't know how to get them into i photo.

Select one file and type Command+A (Select All) to select all at one time.

  • Delete photos from camera option not appearing in iPhoto

when transfering pictures from my CyberShot camera to iPhoto, I am no longer asked to delete photos from camera. can this be corrected?

It is not recommended to have iPhoto delete the images on the card. The safest way is to delete the images on the card directly in the camera, after making sure that they have been imported correctly and making a backup of the card.
But if the option to delete the images is not available, there may be something wrong with your preferences - see LarryHN's post here:

  • With icloud set up on my 4GS I deleted photos from camera roll. I run an older PPC G5 with Lion which wont run icloud. Can I transfer pics from i stream to camera roll to allow a non-icloud back up to my PPC? Precious photos are close to 30 day cut-off

With i cloud set up on my 4GS I deleted photos from Camera Roll to make space knowing I would have them backed up on icloud via Photo Stream. I now find that my older PPC G5 with Lion which wont run icloud. I have an ipad3 too, which of course does. I want to copy photos from Photo Stream back to Camera Roll on the phone so that I can back up "old school" to iphoto on my ancient mac. The controls seem to suggest that as an option but when I select multiple photos in Photo Stream and select "Save to Camera Roll" the photos do not appear on Camera Roll as expected. I am running close to the 30 day limit and do not want to lose hundreds of precious photos (or have to email them to myself individually). Can the ipad3 help at all? Any ideas good people? Dan

If only it were that easy Winston. I connect with a USB cable, iphoto opens and I can only see the photos in Camera Roll, not Photo Stream. There does not seem to be a way of aceessing other files in the phone from iphoto and, as in my initial message, I can not transfer the photos to Camera Roll on the phone. My iphone and ipad software is up to date, but my iphoto is '08 version 7.1.5 with my mac running 10.5.8 which is the best I can do on the PPC without messing everything up.  I dont have the dough for a new mac or I would have gone for that option...am I stuck?

  • HT1338 how do i import photos from camera or memory stick?

How do i best imort photos from memory stick?

Plug your USB flash drive into your USB port. Your device will appear in the Finder with your images. If your camera takes an SD card, you can insert the SD card into the SDSX slot of your Macmini. In iPhoto, under preferences, you can choose to have the application automatically import images, if you desire.

  • Hoy can I restore photos deleted from memory card conected to my new iPad with the cámara kit?

I conected the memory card with my photos to my iPad with the cámara kit,  there where not enought Space to dounload and I deleted accidentaly the photos. how can I restore the photos?

If you deleted them from the card then you could do a search on the internet and you should find a number of third-party programs that might be able to recover them. If you had copied them to the iPad and they are still on there then you can copy them from the iPad to your computer : photos to PC.

  • Transferring photos from camera to pc

I've just got new N95 and the user guide doesn't seem to cover subject. I have tried via my previous (6600) phone's Bluetooth also infrared with the same result. Is there help out there for someone clearly the opposite to a technophobe ?

There's many different ways you can get the pictures from the N95 to the PC.
It all depends on which memory you are using to store the pictures.
In all cases you can use PC Suite to tranfer (but it's slower method). Connect the device to the PC Using PC Suite then Use the PC Suite File Browser to locate the pictures, now just select the pictures and copy to your location.
If the pictures are in the memory card, You can connect the N95 using File Transfer (mass storage) mode USB to the PC now it will be just like another Hard Disk. Open the File Explorer in Windows and manage your files.
You can still use IrDA also to beam the pictures using infrared. Open the gallery locate the picture then select Options->Send then infrared. You must have Infrared active in your PC and ready to receive files, this depends on your computer so contact your computer provider.
You can also Bluetooth the files, use the same method as infrared only have your PC Bluetooth ready to take the files. Or set-up your PC Bluetooth to use OBEX File Transfer. You need to first pair your device to your computer for instructions follow your PC Bluetooth client or contact your PC manufacturer.
You can also email your pictures or MMS them.
You can post them to flickr or Facebook directly from the N95 and access them via your PC.
    ETC. ETC. ETC.

  • IPAD2 since yesterday seems to have stopped allowing transfers of photos from anything other than another Apple product and comes up with the message2 itunes will no longer sync photos....which are not transferred from a Mac? Looks as if there is a prob

IPAD2 since yesterday seems to have stopped transfers of photos from non Mac equipment. I use dell with ITunes cloud facility.
Any ideas or are we to await Mac correcting the software?

Okay, can someone please give a useful answer? Thanks! I have been experiencing exactly the same problem for some time now, and it is very annoying. Furthermore, I would like to point out to Chris CA that there is absolutely nothing ambiguous about the original post.
So here is the deal. I used to be able to burn CDs with iTunes that played back fine on both my car and home stereo. After some update, and I am very sorry but I really do not remember which one, as I am just a user and not a programmer and just want something that works, which in the end Apple used to be all about, and therefore do not keep track of all the updates, CDs won't play back on my car stereo. Nothing else changed, still the same brand of CDs (even the same stack!), still the same car stereo, and still the same 2007 MBP. So by simple deduction I conclude it must be a software update. And I do not care what the exact cause is, I just want a fix!
I'd like to apologize for my tone in the above, but it is just a very annoying problem, even more so because it seems nothing is being done about it. Thanks for your answer in advance!
