Transferring projects (calendars, photo books, etc.) between iPhoto libraries

Is it possible to transfer "projects" (calendars, photo books, etc.) from one iPhoto library to another? I know I can transfer events and albums, but don't know about projects.

No it's not.

I get this pop up when trying to create a photo book through the iPhoto store.
"Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library."
The photos I have selected have already been imported so how and why do I do it all over again?
What do they mean by published albums?  I categorize them into photo albums for organizational purposes after I import them from my camera or phone. So why can't I put them into a book now?
I have over 400 photos selected for a photo book for my child's graduation gift so how can I tell which photos I have to do this to?
Please help. Any insight wouyld be appreciated.
    Confused and frustrated...

Give this a try:  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.

  • Moving a photo book created in iphoto from a laptop to a desktop

Any idea how to move a photo book created in iphoto from a laptop to a desktop in order to do some editing before submitting to apple for purchase? Iphoto on laptop is version 4.0 or 5.0. Desktop version has 8.0.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

There's only one way to do it.
iPhoto stores your books etc within the main database file. There is no way to transfer this to another library. You'll need to copy the entire library to bring it to a machine with an internet connection.
Here's a tip: duplicate the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder. Then, hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue select 'Choose Library' and open the Copy library. From these, delete any pics not in a book etc - put them in the iPhoto trash and empty it (iPhoto menu -> Empty Trash). That way you'll only bring the minimum you need with you to the machine with the internet connection.
However, beware - there's no guarantee the the book template you're using in v4 (or v5) is the same - or even available - in v7 (iLife 08)

You have Acrobat Pro on your system. It will try to open PDFs, and of course it will fail. You must uninstall it. Then, you will need a PDF reader. So install Adobe Reader. That seems quite simple, but perhaps something is wrong. If anything goes wrong with these two steps (1) uninstall Acrobat Pro (2) install Adobe Reader, then please let us know the details.

  • IPhoto v8 no themes for calendar, cards, books etc

I upgraded to iLife 08 and I now can't make any books cards etc using iPhoto. I used to be able to do fine, but since the upgrade it just says "No themes installed, this feature will remain disabled until atleast 1 theme is installed"
Does anyone know how I can get this working? I tried deleting the .plist file for iPhoto and re-install and nothing and I set up a test account and it doesn't work on that account either.
I have found the themes folder in applications support and there are loads of folders with .plist files in them - relating to the themes, so I'm guessing they have been installed but iPhoto wont have it.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Restoring iPhoto Themes
First look in your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If you find it there move it to the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder and reboot. Then try iPhoto again. That may save you having to go thru the reinstallation process described below:
1 - delete the current application.
2 - delete any files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in your HD/Library/Receipts folder.
3 - delete the Themes folder from your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder. Also look in the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there then delete it also.
5 - boot into the system disk that came with your computer and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.
After installing reinstall the iPhoto 7.1.1 updater again followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime, 7.3.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Buy a photo book made with iPhoto 08?

I've made a photo book on an iMac running 10.8.5 with iPhoto 08 (7.1.5). When I pressed "buy", it said it was not possible with this version. I can't upgrade the machine or software (it's not my machine). Is there a work-around? Is there a way of exporting the finished project so that I can import it and buy it on a more up-to-date machine? Thanks.

You can purchase your book from other sources - google is your friend - one source  to look at is PrestoPrint
You can upgrade to iPhoto '11 by purchasing an iLife '11 DVD from Amazon or eBay and installing iPhoto '11 and upgrading to the latest version or system supports
You can make a copy of your entire iPhoto library (there is no way to export a book except as a DF which can not be used to order from Apple and can not be edited) and open it on a Mac with iphoto '-9 or '11 and order -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it. - check the preview carefully as i is possible that some things change when you change versions

  • Photo Book editing locks iPhoto solid

Has anyone else had this issue? On my Retina MBP, everytime that I try to edit my Photo Book I'm building, the entire app freezes. I have to perform a Force Quit on it and re-launch it. This happens constantly, in the span of 90 seconds I performed a Force Quit three times.
I've got the latest updates for it, for OS X and the MB updates that come in the app store. I'm not sure how else to fix this. There are no devices plugged into my USB ports, HDMI or Thunderbolt ports, so it's not something external causing it. This is the only app that causes this, any suggestions? They'd be much appreciated!
    Thanks.

That new librarary was a test to see if it was the old library's fault or a wider problem.  It proved to be a problem with your old library.
You can recover your old library as follows:  make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Extra-large photo book available for iPhoto 08?

Can anyone tell me if I can create an extra large size photo book with iPhoto '08? I see online that extra-large (Size: 13x10 inches) is available, however in my iPhoto this option is not there (only large Size: 11x8.5 inches). Do I have to upgrade to iPhoto '09 in order to get that?
    Thank you.
    Irina

If I'm understanding this correctly, is there a work around, i.e. perhaps just purchasing the iPhoto upgrade to 09?
The only way to upgrade iPhoto is to purchase the iLife suite. There is no way to purchase an update to iPhoto alone.
It is surely contraindicative to me to not allow iPhoto 08 users to order a book that costs $50 instead of one that costs $30 without first spending $80 to upgrade!
Contraindicitative or not, adding the feature of the extra-large book means extra coding of the app, extra product testing and all the hoohaa that goes with releasing an update, and all of these are a cost. Extra features are an incentive to upgrade. Adding them to legancy versions lessens that incentive. I know of no software developer that adds features to an app after a newer version has come out.
it does not make economic sense for me to spent $80 just to be able to purchase something larger in size.
A calculation only you can make for yourself.

  • Need to reprint photo book created with iPhoto & My Publisher

I created two photo books in December of 2006 via iPhoto and used the My Publisher plugin to use that service for output. Anyway, I gave the book as a gift and now I would like to make a copy for myself. The problem is that My Publisher cannot reprint these books... this was verified today by one source at MP.
So, what are my options, I strongly prefer the MP option (that's not available) because I wanted an exact copy and the price is right (about half of what Apple charges last I checked).
BTW: These two books were created with two different versions of iPhoto... maybe v5 & v6.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    So, what are my options,
If My Published will not reprint for you then that is not a choice
So your choices are to order from Apple or redo the book for some other source of your choice

  • When trying to purchase my photo book made on iphoto 09, it keeps saying credit card cannot be verified.what to do?

im trying to order the photo book I made on iphoto, but it keeps telling me that my credit card cannot be verified. Any suggestions?

Be sure your credit card is ok?
And go to your account in the Apple store and re-enter (not just verify) all of your information and be sure one click ordering is on and try again

  • How can I transfer photos between iphoto libraries?

How can I transfer several selected photos from my external iphoto library to the iphoto library on my computer? The selected photos are in raw format.

best way is the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -
Other than that you can transfer the originals (no edits or metadata changes) by exporting as king is original (see Exporting From iPhoto ) and then switching to the other library and importing

  • What is the difference between switching between Iphoto libraries.....

...using iphoto and iphoto08? I ask because right now I  have iphoto (what ever the latest before 08) i have so many photos i had to add some libraries, which by the way was not easy. Then to switch between libraries i have to close iphoto hold options button and click on iphoto then it tells me to choose a libary. When i try to choose it does not show all of my libraries. I also don't think I can have mulitipal libraries open at the same time. With iphoto 08 can I have more than one open and is it easier to find libraries and switch between them? Please help. I have quit using my iphoto be cause i am so frusterated!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As LH recommended the free version of iPhoto Library Manager will let you quickly and easily move between multiple libraries. I use iPLM to manage over 15 libraries and can move between them in a flash like this. Once you add a library to iPLM you can just use iPLM to open that library without having to go thru the Option key method and trying to remember where the library is located. Much faster with iPLM.
If you need to copy photos between libraries and keep the keywords and comments intact you can with the paid version of iPLM.
I do have one library that's 20,000+ photos in size and don't have any problems with it. However, you should have a backup plan for your libraries.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. • How do I change between iPhoto Libraries when I am importing pics to another website?

When I import pics to my website I click on Import photos and the standard apple screen (Firefox Edit  in menu bar) comes up so I click on Pictures, then iPhoto, then Events and choose the individual photos, but  only the one library shows there.  I do know how to change between the libraries when opening the iphoto library by using the options tab, but that does not work in this instance?
    ilife 11, OSX 10.6.8.

Correct - that is not how you access your photos
You use the media browser in the lower left hand corner of the upload window under media ==> photos ==> iPhoto
See this user tip for complete details on accessing your photos correctly

  • Moving albums between iphoto libraries

I have three iPhoto libraries on my mac book pro. I have created albums and events in each and want to consolidate the albums to a single Iphoto library.
    How do I do that?

If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($30) version of iPhoto Library Manager

  • Calendar Crashes, iPhoto 6.0.3, and Missing Photos, Books, etc.

Last week I was creating a calender in iPhoto 6.0.2. It crashed twice while I was working on it. I submitted the crash logs to Apple and went on working with the calendar. Everything seemed fine.
Last night I upgraded to iPhoto 6.0.3 via Software Update. I checked permissions afterwards, then launched iPhoto 6.0.3 to work on my calendar. ALL of my photos since December 2004 were missing and I also had no books, albums, or calendars in the left side pane. I tried rebuilding the library and nothing changed. I have not yet tried to "recover" lost images.
I'm not sure if the iPhoto 6.0.2 calendar crash did this or the iPhoto 6.0.3 update, or the combination of the two. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get back all of this information? From what I've gathered, it looks like I should try iPhoto Library Manager. That seems to help some people. At the very least I hope to get all my Film Rolls back, but I would like all the other stuff as well.
Yes, I should have a more recent backup than I do, but Apple also needs to make the iPhoto Library data files more robust so it's easier to rebuild this information!

That did indeed recover all my "missing" photos. I guess there just isn't anyway to recover albums, calendards, greeting cards, slideshows, etc. Is that true?
I think I will revert back to my last backup and manually add the 10 or so rolls that I have taken since then. At least that way the only thing I lose is the calendar I was working on during the crash in iPhoto 6.0.2. I also plan on filing a bug on iPhoto with the crash log and the information about it corrupting my iPhoto Library. If iPhoto Library Manager can recover all my photos, then iPhoto itself should definitely be able to!
One other oddity I noticed was the iPhoto Library Manager would say it was importing Film Roll "Joss's Birthday", but then it would NOT actually use that as the name of the Film Roll in the rebuilt library. I figured since it obviously saw the name, it should use it. Maybe I had the preferences configured wrong.
