Transferring Reunion 9 (Family Tree) Program/ from MacBook to MacBook Pro.

Hi all! I upgraded my 2 year old MacBook in November for a MacBook Pro. Before I updated I had purchased Reunion 9.
Now I need Reunion 9 on my new MacBook Pro, but I have no idea how to transfer it! I was able to transfer the actual program to the new computer, but not the account.
Any idea???

Well apparently, on top of the $100 I paid for the program to begin with I have to shell out another $10 for a replacement CD. Awesome.
Because I purchased the program from Apple and NOT directly from them as a download they can't do anything to help me other than take my money some more.
I guess I'll have to do some digging!
Thanks for trying to help!
Kathy

  • Migrate family tree maker from xp to Macbook Air

I am a heavy user of Family Tree Maker, Ancestry and other geneological SW. Can I migrate my FTM DB from XP to Macbook Air?  Does anyone have an idea of equivalence of function. I don't want ot use Boot Camp.
I am planning to buy a Macbook Air to replace my old xp laptop but don't want to lose my FTM data.
    Thanks

Here is the Mac version of Family Tree Maker.
Contact Ancestry.com to ensure that the PC and Mac versions are compatible and that you can migrate your data.
Alternatively, you can run the PC verision under XP using Parallels or VMware Fusion virtualisation software.

  • Transfering programs from imac to macbook pro

i just bought a macbook pro, and hate imovie 8
how do i transfer imovie 6 from the imac to the macbook pro???
i thought a simple usb to usb connection would work, but that didnt work

Why don't you download IM6 from Apple which is a service provided for those with iLife 08 and who dislike iMovie 08 vs. 06?

Note to others migration assistant is pretty heavy handed and not a very good suggestion given that Apple has already allowed for this.

  • Will I need to buy Lion on a Lion preinstalled macbook air after transferring a snow leopard system from an old macbook pro

So will I need to buy Lion from the app store to upgrade, after I transfer my old snow leopard system to a new macbook air, that came with Lion?
    Thanks!

Use Setup Assistant when your new Mac first starts up to transfer your stuff from the old Mac or it's backups.
If it comes with Lion, see Using Setup Assistant on Lion
If it comes with Snow Leopard, see the slightly-different Using Setup Assistant on Snow Leopard or Leopard, then upgrade to Lion.

  • How do i transfer program from iMac to macbook with no disk drive

Hi I have a imac with cs5. I now have a macbook pro with no disk drive. How do i download the older cs5 onto my new macbook pro? Thanks

You are allowed to have up to two activated installations of each version license you own, so unless you have already installed it to another system, you should be fine.  If not, phone customer support.  I've never heard of them refusing to reset a person's activations.

  • Unable to run iPhoto on a new MacBook Pro after transferring from an older MacBook

    Hello,
I recently transferred all of my information from an old MacBook Pro to a new one. Currently, when I try to open iPhoto, I get a message that states "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." I got the iPhoto Library Upgrader from Apple and downloaded it, but the same error message occurs. Any ideas? All of my photos are stored on my computer, but the application will not run. Thanks!

It's not enough to donload the updater, you also have to run it. It's in your Applications/Utilities folder.

  • What do I need to transfer data from my old MacBook Air to a new MacBook Air

what do I need to transfer files and programs from my old MacBook Air using OSX Lion 10.7.5 to a new MacBook Air?

An external USB drive on which you can install a clone of your old computer's drive. You csn then connect it to your new computer and use Migration Assistant to migrate your data to the new computer. Or you can manually select which of your files you want and copy them to the new computer.

  • Mac Family Tree 5.3 or Reunion

    Hi All,
Apologies if this is not the correct forum for this topic, but I posted a query about which genealogy software to use on my macbook and was grateful to receive comments from users about the above 2 pieces of software.
I know Reunion 9 is very popular and stable, but has anyone had any experience with the new version 5.3 of Macfamily tree. I like the sound of it because it has an iphone app already and also seems much improved (and is half the price of Reunion), although I don't want to be drawn in by the "bells and whistles" if Reunion is still better, but I would welcome any feedback from users.
    Many thanks in advance.

I have both. Reunion is the one to get. I find the route to the data entry in MFT far from obvious at several levels and as you necessarily keep hopping back and forward between panes this is a material problem.
The other problem is that at least two facilities in MFT, the Virtual Family Tree (a 3D all data picture) and the Kinship Reports ( who are your parents , grandparents etc, a printed list) are simply erroneous.
If you have a family with repeated marriages and children from each union, you will find VFT links the children of (say) 'her' children with his other wife, and KR makes the 'other wife the grandmother of her predecessor's natural children.
Both these features of MFT are not the core facilities. Those are the family reports and the individuals FT and/or descendants charts. However you could cause an upset if you sent such things out.
Virtual Family Tree in MFT is useful for envisaging the blocks of the family, say the people in "Baltimore" who are behind great gran Jenny and that small group in Tristan da Cunha who produced your father. The other point is that your FH data is probably amongst the most hard won on the computer so , aside from backups, it is prudent to have it in more than one database type. You should also make up GEDCOM file backups from time to time aside from native format bkps per Time Machine and whatever. If it keeps going MFT will resolve its problem so if you can persevere with Leopard you can persevere with MFT but don't rely on it.

  • How do I build a family tree on macbook pro

Any suggestions/recommendations on how to build a family tree on my MacBook Pro? Should I use Numbers or Pages? I am used to using Window based programs. Not interested in paying $100 for a template.
I am starting with my grandparents, then their 8 children (my aunts and uncles), then my generation (cousins), then our children, and 1 more generation. Would like to add birth/death/married dates, and possiblly geographical info.
I appreciate your help and time - thank you.

Best of all would be an application designed for the purpose, such as (for example) MacFamilyTree, but you can make a mock family tree using cells in Excel or Numbers.

  • What has caused an app I purchased (Family Tree Maker for Mac) and currently have installed, to disappear from the Mac Store. Does this mean it is no longer sold?  If so, how will I get update notices or re-download if needed?

I purchased and installed Family Tree Maker for Mac from the App Store about 6 months ago.  I heard that possibly a new version was coming, though I had not received any update notice.  I went to the App Store and it no longer shows the app, either as available for purchase or as an app I have previously purchased.  So I can't get any information on the app, support, etc..  How can an app I have purchased disappear from the purchased list???  How can I get update information or support links? (contacted FTM website and phone support and they said if I bought my program from App store, I have to get update information there).....the Update Info button in my program is actually greyed out!!  So the program I bought doesn't even have the normal update link!!  I thought one of the advantages of App Store purchase was being able to redownload the program in the unlikely event it was lost....ie: no need to worry about having the install CD.  So now I only have my installed, operating copy and no way to reinstall if it crashes due to corrupt data, etc.!!  Not a happy result from an App Store purchase!  And I must say the circular references in the support link are frustarting...apparently there is NO live support for the App Store itself!

Thanks for THAT tip: iTunes acct. history DOES show my (few) Mac app purchases, buried in with my MANY iPhone and iPad apps!  So I CAN prove I bought it (7 months ago, not 6), but you wouldn't know it from the App Store app on my Mac!  But that does leave a few other ?'s hanging: like how could I download it again, or check for updates (as I said, the version installed has the "update" button greyed out!  Ancestry.com (who sells it online and support it for other buyers said update info for App Store purchasers comes through the App Store.
I may just be out of luck with this because after 7 months of ownership, they (Ancestry) just replaced FTM with a new version (Family Tree Maker for Mac2) that is NOT an upgrade (though prior owners get $4.00 off on a $52.00 purchase!!).  I'll probably just plump for that....direct from Ancestry.com...and give up on the Mac App Store, because the new version reportedly has major enhancements in sync-ing your family history record between your computer and the cloud program available online.  Genealogy software, like everything else is migrating to the cloud, but one really does need a resident program on their device because you're often collecting data "in the field" in libraries, historical archives, cemeteries, etc. where you really can't get online in many cases.  Fortunately, more and more of the source data is coming online, so more and more can be done from home!

  • Transferring Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom from Macbook to new Imac

    Hello all,
I am currently running Photoshop CS4 extended version 11.0.1 and Lightroom version 2.3 on an early Macbook model 1.1, I have the original install disks for Lightroom, but when upgrading to CS4 extended I downloaded the upgrade from the Adobe website. I am receiving a new Imac this month and would like to explore my options for correctly transferring (migrating?) these programs to the new Imac. My search on this forum reveals that migration assistant may not be the best option for these two programs, any insight is appreciated.

LR won't be a problem, just install it on the new computer. As long as you don't use them on both systems at the same time you won't violate the licensing terms.  If you LR was an update you will also need the key from the 1.x version.
For PS CS4 just run it on the MacBook and de-activate it (Help->Deactivate...). Then download the PS CS4 package from Adobe and install it on your new system using the same license keys you used to install it on the MacBook. Since you indicated you upgraded to CS4 (from what version you didn't say) you will need the license key from the original (CS, CS2, CS3??) and the license key to the upgrade to CS4.
After installation of PS CS4 you may also need to manually install updates as it is often the case that the Adobe updater doesn't recognize the fact that updates are available.

  • Family Tree Maker compatibility with MacBook Pro upgrades

Blessings to those who are able to reply with possible answers.   I am sorry....but I have spent days working on getting my two USB ports to work also.  I basically use the USB ports for a wireless mouse and various flashdrives/memory sticks.  I have a MacBook Pro 2011 Snow Leopard 10.6.8  I have tried software update, SMC and PRAM resets, battery reset, hardware test, creating a new user account....and browsing and reading numerous discussion boards.....awgh!  I have stopped short of using my install DVD (fear of loosing data), upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion (some fear of loosing an application that might not be compatible  FAMILY TREE MAKER 2010  19.2.1.241), contacting an Apple Store (AppleCare or whatever--live 2 hours away + fear of expense), and of course, trashing the laptop.  Does anyone out there have any possible solutions?   I see I am not alone.  --A frustrated first-time Apple products owner.

Quote below from the Family Tree site:
    System Requirements:
Mac OS X 10.5 or later, including OS X Lion (10.7)
    Intel-based Mac
    DVD Drive
All online features require Internet access.
Since Mountain Lion has not been released, there is no mention of compatibility.
