"Translate" widget is stuck with weird languages

My "Translate" widget is stuck on stupid with weird languages.
How can I reinitialize it ?

When I start it, it comes up with "Japanese" to "Undefined"
Doing a language switch changes it to "English" to "English" .. again then it is "Chinese (Simplified Han)" to "Chinese (Simplified Han)" .. repeat

My Mac Book Pro suddenly gets stuck with weird horizontal colored lines across the screen, which will only go once I restart the laptop. What can I do?

Randomly while scrolling, the screen just goes beserk and gets stuck with random colored lines. And, the only way to get rid of this is to restart my entire computer. My translation widget will not open the language windows and will not transpose language windows.

What's the name of the widget? Has it been working and just stopped, or did you just install it?

Translation widget- 2nd language undefined?

Hi! I have an iBook G4 with Mac OS 10.4.4, and when i open the translation widget, it gives me a selection for the first language, but the second one says "undefined". If click on it, it says English, but if i click on it, it goes back to undefined. It also has a large SYSTRAN sign above it. Please help!!!!!!!

No, mine is definitely a language translator. I use it all the time. The unit converter is called "Unit Converter". I don't know why your system is different.

Language translator widget malfunction

For some reason, my translator widget no longer works properly. I used to be able to translate from Korean to English and visa versa (which are the only two languages that I really NEED the translator for). But now, I can only choose English for my "translate from" list and the translate to list says only undefined. I am connected to the internet when I am doing this and my friends who have macs can use theirs fine. I'm no technical-fiddler and didn't mess around with anything. Is there a way I can just delete it and reinstall it again?
Its the default translator that came with Tiger.

I had exactly the same problem, and I followed the advice given, but because I hate to reboot if it is not absolutely necessary, I simply relaunched Dashboard without rebooting the Mac.
The translator widget sat blank for a few seconds, then came back to life as good as new.
So then I trashed the plist on the desktop, all without rebooting! (This will be of value to rebootophobes, of which I suspect I am but one among thousands).

Problems with Multi-language Translation (OMLT/MLT1)

SAP B1 logon takes a lot of time when a user logs on to a database with many translations.
The logon time seems to increase exponentially with the number of records in the mlt tables.
For the moment we have translated only one field in 2 languages (ItemName of OITM)
- there are 20000 articles in the database, translated into 2 languages -> 40000 records in mlt1.
Our customer will have 50000 articles translated into 4 languages when he goes live.
Here are some logon times
logon time (in minutes)     |     records (OMLT/MLT1)

00:05               |     1000/2000
When using the sql profiler, the last statement just before the client seems to hang is:
SELECT T0.* FROM [dbo].[MLT1] T0 ORDER BY T0.TranEntry,T0.LangCode
Then, after the elapsed logon time, the next statement is
SELECT T0.* FROM [dbo].[CHEN] T0 ORDER BY T0.Component,T0.ID
So it seems that all the translations are read at logon time, and stored in a very inefficient way.
We have the same results when we connect to the database via the DI-API.
Does anyone know if there is a fix available (our current version: SBO 2005A SP:0 PL:06

I think the problem has been identified - <u>should</u> be possible to solve in short-term (no guarantee )...

The bug - which caused most of the trouble - had been fixed in 2006 - connection time has gone down to about 1/50!
However, the design (loading translations when logging on) has not been changed so far. Subsequently using a large number of translations may still cause connection times which may be considered "too long".

Try this: Open Terminal and type at the prompt:
Killall Dock
that will quit Dashboard and relaunch the Dock. Then go to User/Library/Preferences and trash:
widget-com.apple.widget.translation.plist.
Then go to User/Library/Caches/DashboardClient folder and trash the subfolders inside it (they are numbered 01, 04, etc. This will clear the Dashboard cache).
Open Dashboard and verify if it works.

Translation Widget Problem

Hello everyone. I am a pretty new apple user. Got to say im loving every minute of it. Well, two days ago my computer auto updated and since then for some reason my translation widget (came with comp) does not work. I can not type anything in it and it I cannot choose languages to use. Is there any way to reinstall it?

I was having the same problem with the translator widget and did what you said: put my preferences folder on the desktop and restarted it.
This led me to believe the problem was in the original preferences folder.
It was! I found, at the bottom of the folder, the widgets. I just trashed them, and
dragged the folder from my desktop back to my library replacing the new one that had formed. Restart and you should be good to go.

Translate widget in Dashboard doesn't work

I can choose the Translation widget in my Dashboard, however, I can't choose the languages (from/to) with the arrows.... :-(

For those of you who have the problem, I discovered that you need atleast one Web Widget in your Widgets folder.
I copy one over from our MBP, and the functionality returned.

Translator Widget Mouseover Highlighting - OFF please.

Have an old website that I am trying to make more user friendly for my international customers. Having the capability to translate the pages appears helpful.
Google uses some awful masthead that I haven't found a way to shut off. It rips people away from the site, changing the url to one of theirs. Not to mention the fact that the whole interface is uber ugly, and so I dumped them.
I tried the Microsoft Translator Widget... much better. Clean functionality that leaves only changes the text on your page.
But now attempt to use any of the links on the page: the text block becomes highlighted. That highlight then generates a box that says "Original Text... blah blah blah." Both the highlight and the box are quite hideous and distracting.
Have resorted to the following settings: &ctf=false&ui=false&settings=notify , then tested it by changing my browser language preference to Spanish. Nothing happened, it seems to defeat the whole functionality
of the widget.

Also would love to have more control over the colors, size and initial placement of the widget. I do realize that the default placement of the widget can be changed by the viewer using their mouse.
Further, I would love the ability to have better control over the list of languages. The programmer should be able to modify how that list is displayed. I would suggest the following options: 1. the original language, 2. "my" browser
language, 3 a flag, or 4. some combination of all three. Example: Español (flag of Spain here) Spanish.

I had found, read, digested and utilized the given options on the translator customization page that you mention.
I reviewed the languages, want all of them so that part is fine. I was only interested in ways to
change the FORMAT in which the language list is DISPLAYED.
The following options would be very useful: the name of each language in 1. the original language, 2. "my"
browser language, 3 a flag, or 4. some combination of all three.
Example:
Español Spanish || Français
French.
This language display thing is strictly an esthetic issue. I can live with what you have.
The highlighting problem is a deal-breaker. Seems a common concern...

Translator Widget EXTREMELY Slow

Is anyone else having this problem with the Systran Translator Widget in Dashboard? It works fine, but it takes around 15 seconds to simply translate the word "hello" from English to any other language. Is it supposed to take that long? Does this work faster for anyone else? I understand that it goes out to the internet to actually do the translation, but it still seems like it takes an awfully long time.

My translations (when the widget worked) could take up to a minute. I have a 15/2 megabit fiber internet connection, so there's no excuse for this huge delay. Another annoying development, is that the widget now seems to be "broken". Seems to have happened after the airport security update restart. Will have to run disk utility from my other machine to fix it. It ***** too, because the optical drive bezel on my machine was bent "out of the box" for some reason, so i can't put the software discs in.

Translation widget not working

My Translation Widget in Dashboard has stopped working. It shows "undefined" as the second language and I can't enter text anyway. My other widgets appear to work fine. I've tried deleting both plists and restarting but no love. I have a second partition with a boot volume on it (also 10.4.11) and that one works correctly so I tried copying its plists over (and restarted) and that still didn't work.
Any idea what I need to do? Will I have to reinstall on my usual volume in order to get it to work?

Try this first...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.

Translation Widget No Longer Working

It feels like my computer is falling apart at the seems lately. Here is my newest annoying problem.
My translation widget (that comes standard on mac) no longer shows the accent marks, or any other foreign language (for example Japanese, Chinese, etc.) for some reason.
I have tried resetting the SMU and the PRAM. I have also tried closing the widget, deleting the plist for that files in the User/preferences folder and then opening the widget again on the dashboard, but it still doesn't work.
What can I do to fix this problem? Oh, if anyone has suggestions can you please explain them step by step. I am a still a bit computer illiterate when it comes to Macs.

If that sorts out the problem then while your widgets are active click the '+' sign and then the 'X' next to the old one to close it..

Stuck with Foreground and Background processing in Workflow

Hi All,
I have a BDC that is acting as a method in the Business Object. The requirement is something like this: The scenario is in the Utilities System. When a customer pays a security deposit a PM (Plant Maintanence) Service Order has to get created automatically in the background. I have a BDC for creating the Service Order but the thing is that if I make that task which runs the BDC as foreground and give the agent assignment it works absolutely fine and the service order gets generated, but if I make the same task as background the Service Order does not get created. I am heavily stuck with this issue.
Has anybody encountered the same issue ?

Are you checking for errors after the BDC Call Transaction? What I normally do is to use the Messages into option of the BDC call and return the messages to the Task Container in case of errors.
Reasons why the method does not work in background is possibly due to authorizations or the WF-BATCH user being not known to the PM system. For instance when I create PM notifications in WF in background, I have to translate the WF initiator's user id to their Personnel Number for the Resp. Person field. If in your workflow the prior step to creating order is a dialog step, you can also try the Advance with dialog option on the background step.
