Transparency Settings: OuterGlow Size

Hi there,
I've got an big problem with my AppleScript for InDesign CS4. I would like; that my script apply some object effect with one click for my selection in my current InDesign Document. Here's my script:
tell application "Adobe  InDesign CS4"
set dieBreite to page width of document preferences of active document
    --activate
    tell active document
        set mySelection to selection
if (count mySelection) is 0 then
display dialog "Please select an Object"
        else
            tell the selection
                tell transparency settings
                    --set properties of outer glow  settings to {applied:true, blend mode:screen, size:150, effect  color:"Paper", opacity:100, technique:softer}
                    --set properties of  blending settings to {blend mode:normal, opacity:60.0}
                    tell outer glow settings
                        set applied to true
                        --    set size to 0
                        set effect color to "R=255 G=251 B=143"
                        set size to 50.9
                    end tell
                end tell
            end tell
        end if
    end tell
end tell
The Problem is the size; how can I make it higher than 140 points? I would like to have 150 points. Any ideas?
Hope you can help me, and sorry for my english.
Cheers
TheFreak

Hi Lauren,
Got your file this morning and I've looked at it.
In your post and email you said the blend mode had disappeared, but this isn't really the case. The blend mose was applied to the grouped componenets which were then pasted into the frame over the color bar. To see the blend mode you have to get that group re-selected. Probably the easiest way to do that is to select the frame, then right-click and choose Select > Content.
When you do that you'll see the blend mode and transparency setting. Contrary to the description you've provided, the blend mose is lighten, not screen, and that seems to be the problem, though I have no idea why (I really don't know a whole lot about how blending modes are accomplished), though I suspect it has to with trying to lighten a color with black. Changing the blend mode to screen, as you thought it was, seems to work.

  • Advice on sequence settings - frame size for VHS video in FCP

    Hello,
I was hoping that I could get some advice on editing and output for video captured from VHS Tapes to ensure the best quality possible.
My current workflow to digitize the VHS tapes is:
VHS signal from JVC S7600u with TBC into ADVC 300 (no de-interlace or other filters set) into a Mac Pro via firewire.  Capture preset in FCP is DV NTSC 48khz.
Once in FCP - the captured VHS video frame size is 720 X 480, Vid rate is 29.97, pixel aspect is NTSC-CCIR 601 and field dominance is lower (even)
    My questions are:
If my final destination is for You Tube sharing , are these the best sequence/ frame size settings or should I convert the sequence frame size to 640 X 480, or should I leave at 720 X 480 while working in FCP and then output to Compressor and select the H264 you tube sharing video setting and change the frame size to 640 X 480?
Should I de- interlace for internet/youtube destination?
    Should I de-interlace for DVD/TV destination?
If I want to burn the finished project to DVD and watch the video on a progressive montitor/ TV screen, what would be the best settings/frame size for that?
If any of you out there have experience with editing vcr/analog video in FCP and have a good workflow to ensure best quality, I would really appreciate  any advice/suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

Digitize to 720X480 frame size in FCP. In compressor, your YouTube preset will automatically deinterlace and a square pixel aspect ratio. No deinterlacing for DVD.

  • General Settings - Font Size??

    Hi,
Does anyone know how we can access the General Settings - Font Size that the user has set for themselves?  I cannot seem to find anyway to get this via the SDK or even where this is stored in a table to simply query it.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi Lita,
It's held in the b1-current-user.xml file in the user's Application Data folder in their profile. Default path would be:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<Profile Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\SAP\SAP Business One
In this file, you will find the font name and size if the user sets a value other than the default (Tahoma 10pt).
    <leaf kind="single" name="FontFace" type="String">
          <value>Lucida Bright</value>
    </leaf>
    <leaf kind="single" name="FontSize" type="String">
         <value>14</value>
    </leaf>
    Kind Regards,

  • Transparency settings lost but effects still there?!

A very strange thing has happened to my InDesign CS3 file. I pasted a solid-color vector object from Illustrator directly into InDesign, so that I could change the color, etc. I applied a transparency setting within InDesign (screen, 25%) and placed the vector within a frame to crop it. Somehow, those settings disappeared and yet the effect is still there. (When I check the transparency settings it says Normal, 100%.) The printer couldn't get the vector to print at all, from either a PDF/X-1a or from the native file. I am at a total loss on this and my printer is not happy. I can recreate the effect and re-send a file, but any ideas how or why this happened?
    Many thanks.

  • Gnome 3 issues - transparency, settings lost

    Hi!
I'm not much of a Linux-expert, although I try my best becoming one, so please be patient with me.
Yesterday I tried Ubuntu 11.04 beta and I was just shocked from the new GUI. I read somewhere that Ubuntu's Unity or something made the new Gnome GUI a lot worse, so I decided to give it a try with Arch.
I made a fresh install and as usual I followed the beginner's guide, etc. When everything seemed to be done, I started exploring the new things and while doing so I read about gnome-tweak-tool and dconf-editor and wanted to try them.
This is when I encountered my first problems. Changing the gnome-terminal keys worked fine, but anything else like showing the date on the clock, middle click on the title bar for minimizing the window did not.
I tried it using sudo, did not work.
The same thing happened when I tried to change the time and date settings to Network Time: ON but just like before with dconf-editor, after closing the window nothing happened, everything was just like before, Network Time was set to OFF.
So, this is my first problem, I can't change things. I don't have any idea what is wrong, but I'd like to know.
The next is that when I made the gnome-terminal's background to transparent, no matter what I tried to do, it did not work as intended (or as I imagine it should be). It was as if a black wall would be behind the white background of the window.
I saw this happening some time ago when I tried XFCE and the composition was turned off, but now in Gnome 3 everything seems to work fine, cool transparency behind the Applications on the Activities(?) panel, animated effects, windows maximizing when pulled to the top of the screen.
I know (or rather I think) that instead of Compiz, Gnome 3 uses Mutter, but I can't find any configuration for that.
So if anyone familiar with Gnome 3 could help me, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Martin

Sorry for double post, tho I don't think I will try to ask anything anymore.
I reinstalled arch linux with gnome 3, but I still have my mentioned first problem.
Dconf-editor seems missing some options I need. I made a screenshot just to make it clear what I'm talking about.
Here's the one I found on the internet:

    Here's mine:

If anyone would happen to feel like looking at them and tell me if it's the same for him, that'd be nice.

  • FCP- DVDSP sequence settings. frame size

Question of sequence settings. when making a DVD, will the sequence setting, Frame size make a difference?
We are just starting to edit a documentary, which uses alot of still photos and graphics. The rest of the video is shot on DV. I have tried laying still photos on the DV sequence, but it looks like still photos look really compressed and blurry. Not so good quality wise. If I set it to CCIR 601-NTSC, the photos look super good. We are NOT outputting any digi-beta uncompressed, but only to DVD.
I am editing sequence in NTSC DV, but thinking of just before getting outputting with compressor, I am thinking of changing to uncompressed sequence CCIR 601-NTSC, and then compress it to MPEG2. (doing this later so that i can do alot of edits RealTime and worry about picture quality later) of course the picture size does get smaller... I don't really know the effect of this on a teleframed television.
Will that make a difference? Seems that if I go through DVcompression AND MPEG2 compression, both, is more compression than MPEG2 compression itself. Is there a site that talks about it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Lost

I only have "a bit" of experience working with stills in a DV sequence. But one thought concerns how you are integrating the stills and the video. I assume you are going to pretty much intermix the stills and the video and audio (interviews or whatever) that may go with video and stills.
The DVD format, of course, supports stills as a slide show directly, but this will not accomplish the intermix very effectively.
As far as size-quality, you may want to import the stills are larger than DV image size and then pan across them, etc.
At the end of the day, to achieve a seamless edit job, you are probably going to need to have all the stills sitting on a regular DV timeline for export / encoding to MPEG2.
I honestly do not put much stock in the differences between viewer and canvas. I always use an external NTSC monitor to judge the final appearance. I started with a cheap TV and recently upgrade to a nice JVC production monitor. This is the real measure of the final video, in my experience.

  • Advice on export settings (codecs, sizes, etc.)

    I have a 1-minute iMovie, non-HD, 720x480. It was shot with a basic camcorder.
I exported it using the Share > QuickTime > Web preset, and it came out as a 1MB movie, 320x240, and is REALLY grainy and kind of hard to watch.
So I tried to experiment with expert settings, but every expert setting I try multiplies the final file size (typically at least to 20MB or more).
What I'm looking for is "one step up" from the Web preset -- something that's 2-4MB in size, and looks better than my 1MB exported version.
I don't see many details on what the "Web" preset is, except that it's 12fps (I think that's fine -- this isn't sports), and 320x240. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations on other codecs/settings that would produce a better result but at an economical size just slightly larger than the Web preset?
(I'd love it to be larger than 320x240 but when I step up to 640x or 720x I get into 30MB movies...)

Even at 320x240 resolution, the MPEG-4 looks great whereas the H.264 was too blocky and grainy.
That may be due to other factors, not just whether the movie uses the Apple MPEG4 codec or the H.264 code. H.264 is able to deliver beautiful movies, as evidenced by Apple's movie trailers. (Don't expect to achieve that quality without using high-end, high-price software.)
To compare features of two movies you can open both in QuickTime Player, then choose Window > Show Movie Info. Click in the two movie windows in turn to compare their features.
The Movie Info window lets you look at important variables like the Frames Per Second, Data Size and Data Rate of the two movies. These were set by the iMovie export pre-sets used to create the movie.
If the movies aren't exactly what you want, you can use iMovie's Expert Settings export option to configure your own exports using "improved" export settings. You can increase the data rate, for example, to get better quality image. Or lower the window size to improve quality with the same data rate.
The H.264 is a particularly useful codec, delivering great-looking video at very low data rates. How low you can go will depend, in part, on the content of the video. It's often a matter of trial and error.
One strategy is to export with H.264 using a very high data rate so you see what the codec can deliver, then try other exports with lower data rates until the quality is no longer acceptable. When the movie file size achieves your goal, you're done.
Apple's new "Apple TV" export pre-set does a great job using H.264. It doesn't let you control things like the window size, however, at least not from iMovie.
But if you have QuickTime Pro, note that the Apple TV export pre-set automatically exports at the current size of your movie window. So if you want a small-window export, set the movie window to that size before exporting.

  • Question: PE4 -- missing presets, project settings frame size disabled

Hi -- I'm running PE4 and with YouTube's new widescreen abilities, I want to make some widescreen (16:9) videos, rather than the ol' 4:3 ratio.
However, in the intitial set up when I'm creating a new video, when I attempt to change settings, I discover that all the presets are missing. Using windows explorer, I discover that they are all no longer available. Where did they go?
And by the same token, I can't seem to edit my settings, either. From the edit menu, then preset settings, then general... The frame sizes are disabled and no amount of fiddling with the other settings will enable them.
    Am I missing something obvious?
I also feel that the simplest way of fixing the problem would be for someone running PE4 to create a wide screen video in 16:9 and e-mail me the working files. I should be able to clone that over and over for videos. Just an idea.
    Please help!

You can only change your PROJECT presets when you start a project. You can't change them mid-project.
As for output presets under the Share tab, if you're not finding those, then something is wrong with your installation and you probably need to either uninstall and reinstall (you won't lose any work if you do) or at least do a repair install -- do an installation without removing the program from your system.

  • Image Processor quality settings / file sizes

    Hello,
I have been searching around and am coming up empty handed, looking to find out how to get large images (fullscreen web slideshow, would like the images to be 1024 pixels wide or bigger), and maintain quality, yet not be over 700K. Here is an amazing example - http://lambertgroupproductions.com/canyon/zoominoutsliderswp/images/opportuneFullScreen/05 _opportune_full.jpg - 2500 pixels wide, looks GREAT, and is 248K. Any idea how this is being done?? I've tried everything with Bridge and PS, and even looked at other programs to help reduce the file size without harming the quality too much. What I'm running into is one of two problems - the file looks great but is way too big, or - the file size is okay, but the jpeg quality is so low, it's very grainy / blurry! Even with fast internet connections now, I'd still rather have the photos look good and not force the users to wait more than a few seconds to get all the photos to load.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Trevor

In Photoshop use the option to Save For Web (Photoshop / File / Save for Web).
Inhere experiment with the settings. I made a sample I set to 2500 pix wide, bicubic sharper, jpeg Low and Quality 10. The saved file only had a size of 450 kb.
I can't show that sample here in 2500 pix because this site only accepts 450 pix wide images to insert but this file here demonstrates a bit more what I mean. I have set this in SFW at 450 pix wide and low jpeg 10. The result is a file of only about 20 kb in size, not suitable for enlargement but just to show you their is still a bit of quality while only 20 kb of file size:
When setting jpeg High and quality 60 in SFW you end up with around 100 kb and a very nice quality. If you want to check the 2500 pixels edition (size of around 450 kb, and looking very good) you have to download it yourself using this link:
    http://we.tl/q7UQP0cXeC
(send via We Transfer, a free upload and download service). It will be available until 26 may 2013 before it is automatically deleted from their servers. Or drop me a private message so I can mail it to you personally

  • Transparency settings in CMYK

    Hi Guys,
I need this background in a print design. It was made in RGB mode by a vector seller but of course when I try to use it in CMYK it gives me the result as shown below.
Who can help me to solve this?
    Many thanks!
    Bob

The blending modes are struggling with the difference between additive and subtractive color.
    Select all
Object>> Flatten transparency (check preserve alpha transparency with slider to 100 vector)
Change color settings (edit> color settings) to emulate Illustrator 6.
    Convert to cmyk mode
Or play around with the blending mode of the offending element, screen is usually the problem.

  • Raster effect settings and size

Can someone just clarify this for me as we are a little confused. If i draw a simple logo say 100mm wide with a drop shadow somewhere on it and i set the raster effect settings to 300. I need to supply this logo to a 3rd party and i do not know how big or small they will print it out, does the size of output matter? I mean if they print it out a metre wide does the 300dpi setting still apply and therefore retain how the shadow looks despite the logo being drawn at originally at only 100mm wide?

    paulskidmore wrote:

    Yes.
The effects are "live' meaning they are update as the art changes. The 300ppi will hold true no matter what size the file is printed at if the art is scaled as its sent to the printer.
However, if the art is scaled up or down inside Illustrator the drop shadow size (fall-off/blur) can change because it does not scale accurately to the art. So, if someone opens your 100mm file and scales it up to 1 meter then drop shadow could look small and almost non-existed or it could appear much greater than anticipated. This all depends upon what the Preferences > General > Scale Strokes & Effects setting is currently set at.

  • 3rd Party VSTi Settings Window Size

I'm not the first person to talk about this, it is mentioned in the last post of this topic
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c054712
To save you checking and me re-describing this is the quote
    > I have more of a question about VSTi settings windows sizing.
It appears all of my RGC audio VSTi plugins (Rapture, DimensionPro, and Z3TA+) are not displaying the window at the same size as it does in other hosts. This makes it difficult to manipulate the various parameters available for the plugin. Since all of my other VSTi plugins appear to be working, it must be something that is being communicated back to Audition from the VST scan process. I will be happy to open a bug report with Cakewalk if I know what to tell them as far as what the problem is.
And from what I can see no-where else on the forum mentions anything of the like. I am referring to the same plugins as Dennis.
    Oh and to save any questions I'm running;
Audition 3 (Obviously, in this forum)
    Windows XP Pro
    2gb ram
    Quad Core 2.4ghz
    Soundblaster Audigy 4 Pro
(I sincerely doubt the last 3 things are important)
    Thank you,
    Aleks

  • Export settings help size vs. quality, How does Apple do it?

Hello, Newbie to FCPX.  I have been using iMovie to import 1080i footage (and downconverting to 540) but now I moved up to FCPX.  I am still importing 1080i footage from my Canon HD camcorder and I created a 17 minute clip.  When I exported this via the Share --> AppleTV 1080 option it is about 1.3 gigs.  I've tried using compressor but the quality turns blocky and it's still a large file size.  I know there's a trade off to shrinking the file size but here is my question....
What settings does Apple use for their HD movies in iTunes?  They look fantastic and two hours is under 4 gigs at 1080p.  I can't seem to extract the same quality but again, I don't have a lot of experience.  I just have home movies of my daughter I shot in 1080 and would like to preserve as much of that quality as possible without chewing up disk space I don't need to because I don't know how.
Can someone offer some guidance?  Thanks!
