2 Click on ACCOUNTS.
3 Then click STARTUP ITEMS.
Or
1 Click SYSTEM PREF.

  • Transport Monitor is lost

Upon start up and while attempting to launch several apps I get this message.
The application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "8<Transport Monitor><Transport Monitor><HotSyncLib.PPC>"
The last part of this message changes with the app I'm trying to launch.
    Any ideas folks?
    Cheers, MJ

I just got this from the Palm support people and it worked...so give it a shot.
We received your feedback from our Customer Satisfaction Survey. In relation to this, may we know if you have already performed the last email we sent you? If so and yet the problem persists, we suggest that you perform the un-installation and re-installation of the Palm Desktop software. Prior to that, lets backup your files on the Mac. Please go through the steps below.
Using finder (apple + F) or Sherlock, search for your username folder (folder that contains backup of your files from the handheld) on the hard drive. Under normal installation it would be located on the following folder:
    Hard drive > users > Mac user login >documents > palm > users >
Create a duplicate of this folder on the Mac desktop. Do this by clicking once on the folder and pressing the keys apple + D. A new folder will appear with the name duplicate or copy. Drag this folder to the Mac desktop or have it backed up on an external hard drive or CD. This will serve as your backup folder for future references.
Before we proceed, please quit all applications on the Macintosh and unplug the USB cradle from the computer.
Run the installation CD that came with your handheld or run the software that you downloaded and choose the option uninstall instead of the default, quick install.
Using the finder (hold the keys apple + F on the keyboard) type the word, palm; find all Palm related files and folders on your hard drive and delete them, or drag them, to the trash, except for the backup on your Mac desktop that we saved in step 1. Some of the files or folders wont be deleted, thats ok. Delete whatever can be deleted.
Empty the trash then reboot your Mac.
If you are not using a USB adapter, proceed to step 6. If possible, at this point, you may need to install an updated adapter driver for the Mac OSX, or you may refer to this link. http://www.keyspan.com/support/macosx/usa/
Install or update the driver on your Mac.
Download Palm Desktop software from the link below
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421.html
and proceed with the rest of the installation prompts. Choose quick install this time.
Plug the USB cradle directly to the Mac and not through any other USB port. Perform the initial HotSync with the handheld by pressing the HotSync button. The connection between handheld and palm desktop should work by then. Then after your initial HotSync, I need you to open the palm desktop. On the file menu, find the command merge.
Direct the window that pops up and find the username folder youve saved earlier on the Mac desktop. Inside that folder you should find the file, user data.
Select this file and click on merge. All your old data should appear then on the Palm Desktop. We need to transfer these data back to the handheld.
Then click HotSync on the menu. Under that you should see conduit settings. Please click that.
Find the conduit address and click on the button conduit settings.
Choose the option Mac overwrites handheld and click on done and do this for the other conduits except for install, and backup. After alls been changed, exit the conduit settings window.
Try another HotSync. This should solve the issue. Should you feel the need to clarify things please feel free to send us an email.
If you may have problems with the installation, please do the steps below.
    Delete files on the directory:
OSX hard drive > library > application support > Palm Hotsync.
    Check on the folder:
    Hard drive > applications > utilities >
Run disk utilities. Choose the hard drive. And click on disk permissions. Click on verify disk permissions. This would take sometime to complete. After the process is done, restart the Mac again.
You may also need to log in as the root user for Mac so you may install the software. Please read on the following link from Mac support. You can follow the instructions given then try reinstalling the software.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=152089
Then you can manually trash all files after this.
Using the Sherlock or Apple finder (hold the keys apple + F on the Mac) find all Palm related files on your hard drive and delete them or drag them to the trash, except for the backup on your Mac desktop that we saved. Some of the files wont be deleted, thats ok. Delete whatever can be deleted.
Empty the trash then reboot your Mac.
Try reinstalling the downloaded palm desktop software at this point.

  • How do I stop the dialog, "The Application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because..." from appearing?

The dialog appears exactly like this, "The application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "h<__ct__16CTransportRelMacFP18OpaqueTransportRefUc>"
I tried to get this resolved by following the Solution ID: 14020. Here is the problem. There is NO "Install Utility" in any of the Palm Desktop Installer file (either on the CD or downloaded from the website).
In addition, I uninstalled Missing Sync the deleted Palm. I then re-installed Palm and Missing Sync respectively. The problem persists.

    Ok,
I have been thrashing on this one for a while. PLEASE, PLEASE, if this helped you pass this along to other forums because there are tons of people out there with this same issue and NO USEFUL information from PALM to fix it.
The fix is easy. Basically the problem is that there is a remaining process running in FreeBSD subsystem that must be stopped in order to reinstall the hotsync/palm application correctly.
    Log in as root/administrator
    Go to terminal and type:
ps -ax | grep -i palm
this will show all processes that are running in the system that are part of the palm software.
note the process number (on the left) of the list.
    killl nnn
i.e if the left column says 654 type "kill 654" and hit enter
now do the ps -ax again and make sure the process stopped.
This also fixes that other issue when you try to empty the trash and you get an error that says Localized.rsrc is in USE. blah , blah, blah
Now reinstall the palm software and breath a big sigh of relief. Have a beer and sync your palm.

  • Trouble with color on Presario, No red tones on display. Not a monitor issue.

Am experiencing trouble with color on Presario, model no. CQ5500F. Purchased a couple of years ago, and trouble was present immediately. Am getting no red tones - red items appear black or sometimes blue. Was told by HP that it was a monitor issue, and let computer slide out of warranty. installed new monitor today and problem still exists. Is this merely a display adjustment of some kind? Or will I have to pay HP their $99 for a one time fix? Any suggestions appreciated.

    Hello UncleBob62,
It could be the display driver that is not properly working
    1. Click on the start icon
    2. Right click on computer and go to properties
    3. Select Device Manager
    4. Expand display adapters and right click on the video card driver and uninstall
The computer screen will go blank
On the keyboard press the windows key the right arrow key twice and then the letter R.
At this point your computer is going to reboot. After the reboot Windows will install generic drivers for your video card. Do you still see a lack of red tones?

  • 'Transport Monitor' error after archive and install....?

The application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "8<Transport Monitor><Transport Monitor><HotSyncLib.PPC>"
Thats the error reading I get after I performed an archive and install of 10.4.6.
    Any ideas?

    Hello!
A quick search of the KB came up with this article, hopefully it'll help you out!

  • G5 giving "Transport Monitor - 16"

Every time I boot up I get a "transport Monitor was unable to complete your request - 16" error notice. What does this mean?

Look in your start up items and see if Transport monitor is there if so, delete it, it is part of the Palm OS.

  • Multiple Monitor Issue

Alright, so I have a 15" Macbook Pro with the dual graphics cards (GeForce 9600M GT and GeForce 9400M GT 256 version). It's the 2.66 intel processor one. Anyway, I've been trying to figure out this dual monitor issue that I've been having for a few days now. When I'm using the 9400M card and I plug into my mini displayport everything works just fine. This includes the VGA cord, the HDMI, as well as a standard Apple monitor. Now, when I switch over to the higher end graphics card, as soon as I plug into the mini displayport my screen goes black. And that's it. I can't do anything. I have to hold the power button down until the computer turns off.
I've been searching for days in order to find an answer to this question or if anyone has ever had a similar problem and no one could help me. I even went to the genius bar and no one could help either. Keep in mind I've tried this in a variety of ways. I've plugged the monitor in after the computer was running, I've had it plugged in while the computer was turning on, and each time after the initial boot up everything goes black.
To make matters worse, I originally came across this issue because I use Windows 7 on bootcamp and I wanted to use dual monitors within Windows. Bootcamp is only set to use the 9600M graphics card which is the one giving me all the heartache and apparently there's no way around it. If anyone has the slightest clue as to what's going on here or why it would be doing such a thing, let me know. Thanks.

Jon: Thanks for answering those questions. Run the Apple Hardware Test that you'll find on one of the DVDs that came with your MBP. If any errors are reported, go back to the Genius Bar with the error codes reported by AHT and ask to have the machine repaired.
If you have extended AppleCare protection, you have a TechTool Deluxe CD/DVD. You can also use that to test your hardware. If it reports any errors, take the exact wording and error codes from that report along with you to the GB, too.
The problem is not with your three external displays or your cables, adapters, or your MBP's mini-Displayport, because they all work fine with the 9400M. The problem isn't some wrong contact that's being made momentarily as you insert the mini-Displayport plug into the port, because it occurs even when the cable is securely connected before starting up the computer. It seems to me the problem must reside either in your 9600M GT or in its connection to the mini-displayport.

  • Transport Monitor problem concerning Treo 680 and MacBook

When uninstalling Palm software from a MacBook, some people have found it impossible to reinstall Palm software successfully again. May I ask someone who has successfully resolved this problem to post detailed instructions before I am forced to check myself into a psychiatric ward? Thank you.

    Hello James.
Check out the accepted solution on this page.  I have had some success with those directions. If that doesn't work, you may want to see if the Bluetooth modem option is enabled as described in this post.
Hope one or both of those two links work for you.

  • MacBook transport monitor error -4960?

I've been using my MacBook with Palm Zire 31 and hotsync for some time and all of a sudden I get, and can't get rid of, "transport monitor error -4960."  I've read all kinds of solutions in this forum and none work.  I've reinstalled, deleted and reinstalled, I've removed permissions, etc.  I can't delete com.palm files becuase I can't find any to delete (search does not fine them.)  What's going on? Why is this happening and how can I fix it?  I have not been able to back-up/synch my Palm since May 15!
    Post relates to: Zire 31

Alan,  thanks but the solution provided/suggested did not work.  I'm just about ready to give up on all Palm products at this point.  I followed all the steps to clear out all the Palm files.  I reinstalled the current version for my Apple, and I got the same error.  I then attempted to follow the suggestion for a safe boot and simply just enable the synch and do it that way.  That didn't work either - I got another error indicating the synch was incomplete.  Nothing works.  Why can't Palm just find a work around to Apple's new OS?   The Apple is more expensive than the Palm, so the Apple wins.  Either Palm creates and provides a fix for this or I'm dumping all Palm products...I can't use a PDA that isn't going to be compatible with my laptop.

  • Transport Monitor could not complete your request (16)

Transport Monitor could not complete your request (16) is the message I keep getting lately when I try to hotsync my palm IIIc with my 24inch imac running OSX 10.4.11. I'm also using Keyspan serial adaptor for the palm to a USB port. I've been able to hotsync on this machine before the only thing different was that I unplugged the cable once from the USB port to use a flash drive. Now everytime I try to enable hotsync via the hotsync software setup panel I get the above message.
Any ideas about what to do? Thanks in advance.
    Post relates to: Palm IIIc

I have recently been receiving a "Transport Monitor could not complete your request" error, though with the tag (-4960) at the end.  This error appears upon computer startup, ever since I had to reinstall Mac OX 10.5.2 on my computer.  Everything worked fine with the same computer until that reinstallation.  Now, nothing happens on my computer when I try to USB-synch my Treo 680, though it works fine on other computers.
I have tried repairing disk permissions.  I have also tried deleting all the files for Palm Desktop and reinstalling it.  When I did so, I received the same error message during the installation process!
    What can I do?
    Thanks
EDIT: Perhaps relatedly, something seems to be malfunctioning in the HotSync Manager application.  When I open it, the default window with "HotSync Software Setup" does not open.  I can select other menu options (e.g. "Install Handheld Files" ), but if I select "Setup" from the HotSync menu, nothing happens.

  • Graphics card issue or monitor issue?

    Hello, i have a MacPro 2.66 w/ an ATI x1900 and a MacBookPro with th nVidia 8600
i recently purchased a 28" Hanns-g Display which i upgraded from my 20" apple cinema display, im curious if this could be a graphic issue or a monitor issue:
When i connect the 28" monitor to my ATI card (port 1) and boot into 10.4.10 (macPro) i noticed diagonal lines that seem to "scroll" (like an overscan line or something) on greyish and lighter backgrounds.
tried it with the second port, same thing, it does it on all resolutions
    (it runs @ 1920x1200).
when i boot into XP and try the same sites i did in 10.4.10 it doesnt do it at all, its as it should.
I tried both VGA>DVI and HDMI>DVI to the ATI on OSX but it only does it with the HDMI>DVI connection under OSX, VGA looks fine.
(btw my ati card is clean as a whistle, no dust or anything)
However if i plug it into my MacBookPRo with hdmi>DVI it doesnt do that at all.
so im wondering probably incompatible monitor or what?
im looking to getting a 30" Apple Display but not if its gonna act up like that on my macpro, none of this appeared on my ACD 20".
    any suggestions or tips?
    thanks!

im not experiencing scan line son my 30" ACD display under OSX or XP with my ATI, could be the monitor you are using, but if its not doing it with your MBP than.....idk
sonds strange, try another gfx card or another macpro if possible.

  • Transport Monitor

Keep getting Transport Monitor could not complete request (16). What does this mean?

Do you have a Palm product? A quick Google search says it's related to Palm Desktop possibly. Have you updated your Palm software? Go to Palm's site and search there.

  • Cannot launch "transport monitor"... what is this?

I just got back from a crash but I think I've been lucky. I booted up from my Tiger startup disc, did an archive and install and I think everything is pretty much ok. I do get one red flag when i log in though and I cannot find any online information about this or what to do. The message: The application "Transport Monitor" could not be launched because of a Shared Library error: "8<TransportMonitor><TransportMonitor><HotSyncLib.PPC>".
I'm guessing 2 files labeled TransportMonitor ended up somewhere and one of them has to go. Any help with this?
BTW- great Apple Discussions and archives help! I got all my info on the sites and it led me right through the steps I needed! I wish all the companies out there were so user and customer friendly!

The error message and component item listed is often in reference
to an installation of Palm desktop software.
One of several articles I found as a result of a search of the error
message ' transport monitor ' that came up says to reinstall the
Palm software again. If you have done an archive & install,
or other system changes were made, some of the parts of such
an application support for hardware may be deficient or corrupt.
{You could see about removing parts of unused software installs
    by getting and using a utility such as AppDelete.}
ie: "Error: Transport Monitor could not be launched; fix" - MacFixit:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060508093106808
Other references to the cause of this Transport Monitor error or fix
can be seen in other articles or posts from different locations online.
This topic has also been discussed in Apple Support Discussions.
ie: google search topic, ' mac os x transport monitor ' results page:
    http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=macos+x+transport+monitor&aq=0&oq=Mac+OS+Xtransport&aqi=g1&fp=leBsIIJAIN0
If you have and use the Palm product, you may decide to reinstall the
correct driver software for the item; or find and delete specific parts of
that driver software using AppDelete (comes up in search) & be rid of it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • "Transport Monitor" in active processes eating up approx. 30% of CPU

Since updating to MacOS 10.4.9 I have noticed that my CPU has been busy even when it should be idle. When using the "activity monitor" I noticed that in "active processes" "transport monitor" was occupying up to 40% of the available CPU.
I understand "transport monitor" is part of "Palm Desktop 4.2.1" which I run on my computer.
I used the "analysis" function within "activity monitor", but I am unsure how to interpret this information.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    PowerBook G4 1.25 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I can confirm that after deleting "Palm Desktop" including the Pref file etc. the "Transport Monitor" process disappeared.
I then reinstalled Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev D. The "Transport Monitor" reappeared and again took control of about 20-30% of CPU. The overall computer speed seems reduced again since re-installation.
Is this to be accepted? I suppose I could just stop the Transport Monitor process manually when ever I need a faster computer. But this does not seem right...
    Any ideas?
