Travelling how best to bring pictures from laptop

I have lightroom on a laptop and desktop syst
em. Wondering about best way to bring the pictures I take while travelling to desktop system without losing lightroom data.
On both computers I keep photographs in folders by date.
In past I have simply copied the folders from the laptop and then imported those folders into lightroom catalog on desktop.
Is there a way to tell lightroom that it should take the info from the lightroom catalog on the laptop and bringing it into the one on the desktop?
I save metadata to pictures (xmp or jpg files) after editing so I know that get most (all?) of the catalog info when I just copy the pictures to desktop and then import.

I would keep an identical folder structure on the laptop and on the desktop (not necessarily the same drive letters, but the same structure). Then I would:
Copy the image folders from the laptop to the desktop
Using the desktop catalog, do an Import from Catalog pointing to the laptop catalogUse "Add new photos to catalog without moving"
If the drive letters containing the originals match, that's all there is to it
If the drive letters containing the originals don't match, all you have to do is "Find missing Folder" on the top-level folder just imported

P.S:
No need to write XMP data out, as this does NOT contain all the catalog information anyway (virtual copies, collections, flags, stacks, ....).
Please note that the published services settings do NOT get imported when importing from catalog.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

I have been trying to find out how i get my pictures from my none Apple laptop onto iTunes or iCloud so i can view them using my iPad. We hardly use the laptop so seems pointless having all our pictures on it. I hope you can tell me a way to do this.

Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)

A window appears with your boot drive, double click on it to open
Inside is Users folder, double click to open it
Inside is your User accounts, double click on the one you want to send files too
Double click on the Public folder drop the files into the DropBox folder,
The permissions will change and can be used in the other user account when you log into it.

Moving picture from laptop hard drive to larger external hard drive

I am not changing anything in my system. I am using windows 7 and will continue to. No change in elements version (10). Please give me a step by step instructions on how to move my pictures from my computer hard drive to an external hard drive (this will NOT be a back up) but the primary locaton for my pictures. I will keep elements program on my computer and when I want to work on my pictures or download more pictures from my camera I will connect to the external hard drive.

No, there are two ways to see your folders in PSE11 and PSE12 :
By default, it's the 'My Pictures' view. It shows a flat list of all the folders containing images registered in the catalog; all the folder of the last level, without the tree organization. When you are satisfied with the process, you can move other folders (their subfolders will follow).
You could move only the upper level 'Pictures' folder of Win7 in a single step, but you'll feel more secure by doing this in several moves, since moving a big amount of files takes a long time (not longer than a move via the explorer, moving a library of 150 GB like mine requires maybe 2 hours...)
Since you are on Win7, be sure to give all the access rigths to your external drive...
Another Windows trick : the catalog will remember and register the letter drive, F: in our example.
If you plug-in another accessory in the meantime and the drive is now assigned G:, you'll have problem.
The best way to avoid such a case would be to assign a letter like M: so that your external drive will be recognized in all cases.

iPhoto will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad that weren't synced from a computer originally i.e. those taken with the iPad, transferred to it via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/websites . Photos that were originally synced from a computer can be copied to a computer via third-party apps such as Simple Transfer (but as photos are 'optimsed' when they are synced to the iPad, any copied back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on the computer)..
An iTunes backup also doesn't contain synced photos, only those photos in the Camera Roll/Saved Photos album.

Using USB cable is the easiest way to transfer files from a cell/mobile phone to a computer. This is very simple task using the following steps:
(a) Connect your phone to your PC/laptop, it will install driver for you automatically (most of the time) OR it will ask you for a CD (which comes with the phone) and it will do the rest,
(b) Open Windows Explorer (or Files Explorer), the phone will appear like any external storage (external HDD, flash drive ...).
(c) You can copy, move files/photos from your phone to any valid folder on your computer.

This is very vague.
If you mean pics that you synced to your iphone form your computer, then delete them the same way. Open itunes, connect iphone, select what you want to be on your iphone, sync.
