Trouble browsing technet on Linux

I have trouble browsing the technet website with Linux. Both in Konqueror and in Netscape. Loads of links are dead or don't work and I cannot get the license agreement accepted when trying to dowload the JDeveloper9i release candidate. I've spend about 10 minutes trying to contact a site-administrator only to discover there doesn't seem to be one.
Hope for some response,
Guido

Hi,
Which version of Konqueror are you using? I noticed that the older versions don't completely implement several W3C standards and therefore have problems on some sites.
I've been able to access OTN fine using Netscape 4.7, recent Mozilla builds and the Konqueror browser in KDE 2.2. There are occasionally problems at busy times of the day, but these didn't appear to be browser specific.

I turned on my computer and clicked on firefox. It immediately downloaded the new version 18.0.1 without me even clicking on it. It did the add on stuff too. I had trouble browsing after that and the pages freeze up and cloud over. I had trouble signing off my computer. I had to do a hard turn off. What's going on?

hello, please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case there is no new version available at the moment disable hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general.

  • Network browsing with Samba, Linux and Windows

I'm having trouble with OSX 10.4.8 and a SMB network. My
server is running Linux Debian, and exporting shares via Samba.
I have a couple of XP boxes on the network, and they can see all the shares in the workgroup, and can mount them.
However, from the OSX machines, when I click on 'connect to server' and then click 'browse' I get an empty box.
If I enter the server share manually, (smb://server/share)I can mount it as normal.
Also, if I go to the terminal, smbtree shows the entire tree correctly (the same as viewed from XP). Also smbclient -L server shows a list of
all shares, and nmblookup returns correct data.
I can ping all the machines, and they are all on the same subnet.
I have recently done the following:
    on the Linux Samba server:
    set OS level to 255
    set domain master yes
    set local master yes
    set wins support yes
    preferred master yes
From the Windows machine I can see the whole network, including the Mac. I can also mount the user's home dir which is shared on the Mac.
From the Mac, I see nothing when I click 'browse' from 'connect to server', but still I can connect if I manually type the path. Notably, I cannot the Mac listed in it's own browse window.
From the Mac terminal I can see the whole network using smbtree, including the Mac and it's share.
The Mac smb.conf file sets the os level to 8, and wins server to the IP address of the Linux Samba server.
smbclient -L localhost -U also works, showing the local machine's NETBIOS name, and the shared home directory.
If I run nmblookup -M WORKGROUP, the master is reported as 192.168.168.2, correctly.
However, nmblookup -T 192.168.168.2 does not work. I don't know if it should.
Any help / suggestion would be appreciated.

There's going to be something about that OS Level setting, I think.
Check your Mac's setting again (yours is 8, I see.)
Make Debian's OS Level not quite so high?
Disable mac's OS Level completely? (comment using semicolon)

  • Trouble browsing phone, picture files not showing up

I think this might be the first time I've tried taking pictures off my phone since I had Leopard installed. Previously I had no trouble taking pictures off my phone and saving them to my computer, but now there are only two folders showing up when I browse the device, 'ftp' and 'vcard' neither of which is what I'm looking for. There is no trouble pairing or anything, but I don't know how to find the pictures on my phone anymore. It is a Samsung Blade (ah 900 or something) What is going on and what am I missing?

Instead of trying to 'pull' the pictures off the phone from the Mac, why not try sending the photos to the Mac from the phone.
Usually there's a 'Send via Bluetooth' (or similar) option within the pictures folder in the menus of the phone.
Also, have you enabled Bluetooth Sharing the in Sharing system preferences pane.

  • Trouble configuring BIC2G EE+ Linux vm image; IP address is not assigned

    Hi,
I am installing BIC2G EE+ VM Image for Linux OS. I extracted all files and started the VM Image with VMware Workstation. I am getting one error when booting up the image.
"Determining IP information for eth0....Failed". Because of this error, it is not assigning the default ip address 138.2.4.127, so I cannot proceed with bringing BIC2g Launchpad via a host browser session. I am doing this from my home network environment, so I am not sure if this is related to DHCP server in my router. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I was able to resolve the problem. This wasn't a BIC2G image issue, but a known network issue between VMWare 4 and Red Hat Linux. I found the solution via the following link:

  • Can't run in browser on latest Linux and Mac with Java7u13 JFX2.2.5

    Hi!
I can't start JavaFX 2.2.5 applications in browser(all possible browsers) in Oracle Linux 6.3 x86 and latest MacOS. I have the latest Java 7 u 13 from Oracle.
Neither JavaFX Netbeans sample, my applications nor Ensamble(http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/products/javafx/2.2/samples/Ensemble/index.html) work.
The applications work if I start them as normal apps, but not from the browser.
Java works perfectly on those systems, just that I can't start JFX 2 in browsers.
What should be done? My clients need the flexibility of starting their apps from browsers.
It worked a few versions ago, but now I can't start them. Browsers tell me that I don't have Java. (they show that image with Java that redirects to the page from where I can download Java). I also tried to install just the JRE from that link. I have removed and reinstalled Java.
Is anyone else facing this problem?
Any help would be really useful.

Moreover, trying to run http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp it fails. It doesn't detect Java neither. It seems that there is a problem with Java Browser Plugin
The outcome for me was (on Win7+JRE7u13+Firefox17), Oracle's Ensemble sample was accessible from the web . . . your mileage may vary . . .
The major browser vendors have blocked earlier versions of Java. In my case - windows 7 + jreu11 + firefox - I got spinning blue dots of doom instead of an applet being launched. The blue dots just sit there and spin forever while nothing happens. This occurred for both the Java installation check and the Ensemble sample applet.
I installed the latest jre offered me from http://java.com, which was java 7u13. When doing this please, remember to uncheck the incredibly stupid default option of also installing the ASK toolbar which is a nasty piece of software.
Then going back to the java.com installation check page, I get a pop-up that an unsigned applet wants to run (check that it doesn't display behind your browser window). This unsigned applet prompt is displayed by default for JREs newer than jre7u11 in order to combat drive by download attacks using unsigned java applets exploiting security holes in the java runtime. I accepted the warning pop-up and the system was able to detect the Java version: "You have the recommended Java installed (Version 7 Update 13)."
Then I went back to the Ensemble sample page: http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/products/javafx/2.2/samples/Ensemble/index.html#SAMPLES - this time (after accepting the strange Signed by UNKNOWN dialog), Ensemble launched instead of displaying never ending spinning blue dots.

  • Trouble with setting up Linux fileserver

I've done one month of research on the web for this and still no solution, so I have little hope someone in here could help me out.
I have a linux box with 1TB capacity running perfectly Kubuntu. There are two laptops that need access to this box. I have a samba server on the linux box, and everyone can connect to straight from the Finder without troubles.
The problem starts when I try to copy files or folders with a " / etc in. The two pseudo solutions I found so far were a filerenamer utility and using dmg files on the server with some kind of a clone app. I didn't try them out myself, because I really need to be able to use the linux box as an external shared harddrive. (push & pull files, and having a share ready for the upcoming TimeMachine space of the several laptops at our company)
As far as I'm informed it makes no sense to format the linux box drives to HFS (HFS+ is still not supported in the current linux kernel) using AFS instead of samba doesn't solve it either. The problem would be in the samba (or whatever other filetransfer protocol you like). Is that correct?
On the internet there are no real solutions to this problem, while this might seem a quite important thing to most Apple based companies that want to save money on the X-Serve stuff by setting up a linux server. If there is really no solution available at the moment, then I which to be informed on who might be responsible for solving this problem or who I'd have to address this issue to.
If anyone might have the same issues or maybe a solution, feel free to post it here.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Several points.
First of all, a / is not a valid file name character in Mac OS X, or any Unix flavor that I'm aware of.
What you're talking about is a fundamental underpinning of the Unix filesystem. That is not going to change any time soon no matter what you do or who you petition.
That said, it shouldn't even be possible to have such a file on your system right now, so that begs a question right there.
The problem starts when I try to copy files or folders with a " / etc in.
While I don't think it's going to make any difference (see my point above), it would be useful to actually indicate what your problem is. Nowhere do you actually say what happens... does the file fail to copy? what about error messages? do the files corrupt when you copy them? does the client crash? or the server?
it makes no sense to format the linux box drives to HFS
There is definitely no reason to do this, under any circumstances.
If anyone might have the same issues or maybe a solution
Sure - stop trying to use / in filenames. If you have existing files (presumably from some pre-existing environment that didn't prevent their use, implement a renaming session to get rid of them (there are software tools that will do it for you). That is your only viable long-term solution.

  • Trouble using ODBC on Linux

    Hi there.
I'm fairly new to ODBC, so I apologize in advance if I am missing
some cirtical piece of information in my question.
I am trying to setup ODBC so that I can connect to my Oracle
database from RODBC (a package within the R statistical package),
where R is running on my Linux box where I installed the instant
    client.
I have installed the 10.2.0.3 version of the instant client
(basic, odbc, and sqlplus pieces) on my Linux machine.
I have set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include the new lib directory
    /usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.3/client/lib
    which contains the libsqora.so.10.1 file.
    uname -a yields the following:
    Linux stacw34 2.6.9-78.0.0.0.1.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Jul 25 14:41:56 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
    I have set TNS_ADMIN to point to a directory with a tnsnames.ora
file that contains the following entry:
    nickel =
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS=
    (PROTOCOL=tcp)
    (HOST=<my_machine>)
    (PORT=1521)
    (CONNECT_DATA=
    (SERVICE_NAME=nickel.regress.rdbms.dev.us.oracle.com)
I have verified that the tnsnames entry is working correctly
by connecting to the database using the instant client sqlplus
    executable.
At this point, I am trying to connect to the database using the
ODBC piece through RODBC. I have found that the errors I get from R
seem to be the same as those from isql, so I am trying to use
isql to find the root of the problem. Is there a better tool
to validate that ODBC is working on linux?
Anyway, I installed the odbc piece from the instant client, but
I had to do some editing by hand due to the way the machine
is configured. My /etc/odbcinst.ini file contains:
    [PostgreSQL]

When I run isql as follows:
    isql -v nickel
    I get the following error:
ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified
It seems to be that this error occurs because I don't have
ORACLE_SID set. If I set ORACLE_SID to nickel, and then
run the same command, now I get:
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
The sqlnet.log file contains the following:

I can't figure out what is wrong with my odbc setup which would lead
isql (and probably RODBC) to use this connect string (beq protocol, etc.).
I am guessing that is where the problem stems from.
Can you help me figure out how to find out what I am doing wrong
    when configuring the odbc setup?
    Thanks,
    Ari

    That's easily explained.
    As you find documented in
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15699/post_inst_task.htm#sthref398
you have to set 'ServerName' in odbc.ini to your TNS alias, in your case:
    ServerName = nickel
Since you did not give a ServerName, Oracle assumed that you want to connect to a local database.
As you rightly assume, the ORA-12162 indicates that ORACLE_SID is not set, which is needed for a local connection.
If you set ORACLE_SID, Oracle will try to establish a local connection by executing a server process $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle.
Since this executable cannot be found, you get the ORA-12545.
    Yours,
    Laurenz Albe
PS: Your solution is better, as it does not require a tnsnames.ora file.

  • Having trouble browsing the internet at home with my MacBook

I have been having issues browsing the web from home with my MacBook. When I try to go to pretty much any web site (Google, Yahoo!, Facebook, etc) the page starts loading and makes minimal progress before it stalls and I'm staring at a blank white browser window. The page will eventually load after about 3-4 minutes but only partially.
I have a Belkin N+ router (model F5D8235-4 v2) and a fiber optic internet service. My sister and my brother-in-law are able to access any and all sites quickly and completely. She has a MacBook Pro and he has a Dell Inspiron (so it doesn't seem to be a Mac vs Windows issue). We have tried changing the router password type from WEP to WPA. I've tried to hardwire into my router with no success. I have cleared my entire cache, history, and cookies - still no change. I have also not had any success with using a different browser.
I have no issues when I'm using my Mac at work (on a T1 line with an Ethernet cable) or at my mother's house (Netgear ADSL2+ wireless router). I'm curious as to what I can do to fix this. My Mac friends at work and my systems analyst/programmer dad are all as confused as I am. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

The Learning Center uses Flash. My guess is that you probably installed the PowerPC Flash plugin and replaced the Universal plugin that ships with the Intel-based Macs.
To restore the Universal version of the plugin, go to http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=2dda3d81 and download the preview release.

  • Trouble Running Oracle on Linux --- newbie

I've installed Oracle on my linux system with a few errors at the end, which the installer assured me that those errors will not affect my installation (some sort of services errors).
So what do I do now?
I'm well versed with SQL and have been working with database systems for years... but getting oracle running has be a pain in my neck.
Here are a few issues... numbered for your reply convenience:
1)What file do you run to start the daemon? One would think that since this version is made to run on linux, the standard <name>d daemon naming would be expected (oracled, much like mysqld).. but I find nothing. I'm looked through the quick install and the install guides, and I must be missing something. They explain how to use everything to use oracle... but they don't say how to start the darn thing.
2)What is the ORACLE_HOME directory? The install would not allow me to run as root, so I had to run as one of the users. It then asked for an inventory directory which it said would house all my oracle products.. (/usr/local/oraInventory).. yet.. it tried to use /home/johnt/Oracle_Home1 for something.. I would assume oracle. Why would it try to install a product in my home directory rather than the inventory directory I just gave it??? What are these directories for? Your install language needs a little help. Is Oracle_Home1 supposed to be my first oracle product? Meaning if I purchase another then it will be install in Oracle_Home2? Not intuitive naming. Is this simply the single user's environment? Meaning that this is duplicated in every users directory? That would take up a hell of a lot of space.
3)Half of the programs I try to run say that ORACLE_HOME isn't found. Yet I have followed the install guides as to how to set the variable yet it still doesn't find it. I assumed that my Oracle_Home1 directory was the ORACLE_HOME directory... but since that didn't work, I tried setting it to the oraInventory directory (the one which the installation said the oracle products would be installed.. or housed.. which would make it a home, right?) and it still did not work. What am I doing wrong?

Connected to an idle instance. This message means that your DB is not running, or ORACLE_SID environment variable is not set properly. Be sure that ORACLE_SID has correct value, then, if you get that message, type "startup".

  • Trouble browsing photos to attach to e-mail

I'm trying to attach a photo to an e-mail and have tried two different ways but have not had luck with either.  First, I clicked the paperclip icon to attach, then clicked the Pictures folder.  I have iPhoto folders for each year 2005-2012 (all with photos in them), yet the 2012 folder does not appear on the Pictures list--no idea why not.  So then I tried to click the iPhoto browser icon.  It said "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list"--iPhoto was open at the time.  I am at a loss as to what to do.  I have iPhoto '11 version 9.3 on a MacBook.

  • Trouble browsing network shares

I am using an iMac as a server and quite often I receive a "connect failed " error when trying to browse the shares located on the iMac. When I can connect the connection process seems to take what feels like a long time. This behavior happens on both a wired and wireless connection.
Is there a way to configure a network so that network browsing is less error prone?

have you tried including the user name in the address?
    ie: afp://[email protected]/

  • Trouble browsing

For some reason, I can't seem to get on half the websites I goto when I'm at work.  But when I take my computer home, it works without any trouble at all.
I have tried changing from safari, to firefox and have tried using both hard wire and wifi.  The funny thing is, the other computers at work (which are windows based) goto the same sites without any trouble.  Same internet connection.  There has to be a setting somewhere which isn't configured properly for me.  Any idea's?
