Trouble converting PowerPoint 2007 to PDF file

In the past I used Adobe Acrobat 8 to convert my PowerPoint 2003 files to PDF files and it always decreased the file size of my document. I now have PowerPoint 2007 and I tried to convert a PPT file to a PDF file and it made my document about 5 times larger than it originally was! I have no idea how to fix this. Also, I am wondering if this is an issue for converting Word 2007 documents to PDF as well. Any help would be appreciated.

It may depend on the contents of the PPT. I find that the size is typically 3 times smaller for the limited cases I have done. There are some other issues that I ran into with the way that PPT wouls split the graphics into parts when creating the PDF. It did not happen with OFFICE 2003. If you could post an example of a PDF, it might help. Bill

The feature you are looking for, is currently not available in Acrobat.
But you can create an interactive link (to open Word/Excel) using Acrobat. Please look at the following link:

Convert word document to PDF file in SAP

Hello experts,
I've been searching around to get some code examples to upload a word document and convert it into a PDF file and then store it in unix. I hope one of you can help me, because many explanations and threads exist, but I did not get wiser reading them...
I don't want to use 3rd party tools to do the conversion, but do it directly in SAP with abap coding and if necessary spool processing.
System details:

Hi,
You can get the spool no from transaction SP01 and later use this spool no to convert the word document to PDF
using the function module CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF and give the import parameter as ur spool id.
once the doc gets converted to PDF u can use CALL METHOD CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>FILE_SAVE_DIALOG
to get the path where the file is to be saved and later give the path to function module GUI_DOWNLOAD to download the file.
or else u can manually execute the following reports:
RSTXPDFT4 (give the spool no. as input)
RSPO0068 (give the word doc with its full path as input)

Convert portfolio to single pdf file

Hi, I have a portfolio of my email archive which I want to convert to a single pdf file. The way I'm doing it is by combining files and adding the portfolio file and then clicking combine, merge files into a single pdf, adding the portfolio and selecting single pdf file. This 'breaks up' the portfolio into its individual constituents which you can then combing into a single normal pdf file.
But there is a problem. In the portfolio the original date of the email is retained so you can sort the emails chronologically. However, when the portfolio is broken up the individual files are dated on the date the portfolio is created and so the new file is not sorted in the chronological send/receive order of the emails.
So my question is: how do I combine emails to a single pdf file in the chronological order of the emails?

Ps Since typing this message I've noticed that when printing all files in the portfolio it also doesn't print it in chronological order even though that's how they're sorted in the portfolio.

Something to try —
View the open Portfolio in the List or Basic Grid view.
Select all the files.
Select File > Sae Files from Portfolio > Use the Browse For Folder dialog to select a destination.
Click OK.
A copy of the Portfolio's files will be in the designated location.
Perform the Combine > Merge Files into a Single PDF action.

Thank you Frederic, however when I click on "open with", 3 sidebars (?) open in this order ..Safari (default); Textedit; Other. If I click on "other", another window opens with "recommended applications" highlighted. Preview is not one of the chosen applications. However if I click on "all applications", Preview is then highlighted, but it only has an "open" window and I don't get an opportunity to File>Save as PDF.

Hi jain,
When using external mail, the following basic settings are required:
1. You must maintain an e-mail address in the address in the vendor master.
2. The same applies to your own user master. You also have to specify an e-mail address there in order to identify the sender.
Note that it is not possible to change the e-mail address of the vendor via the SAP purchase order transaction (ME21N, ME22N, and so on).
The system only uses the e-mail address of the vendor that is maintained in the vendor master!
3. For the output type for default values, a communication strategy needs to be maintained in the Customizing that supports the e-mail. You can find the definition of the communication strategy in the Customizing via the following path: (SPRO -> IMG -> SAP Web Application Server -> Basic Services -> Message Control -> Define Communication Strategy). As a default, communication strategy CS01 is delivered. This already contains the necessary entry for the external communication. Bear in mind that without a suitable communication strategy it is not possible to communicate with a partner via Medium 5 (external sending).
4. Use the standard SAP environment (program 'SAPFM06P', FORM routine 'ENTRY_NEU' and form 'MEDRUCK') as the processing routines.
5. In the condition records for the output type NEU (for example, Transaction MN04), use medium '5' (External send). Then in Transaction M/34 for the output type NEU add the medium '5' (External send) in Partner functions & Processing routines.
6.Then Create a POGo to Messages>select the output type & medium '5' (External send). Then communication method > Comm Strategy CS01. Remoce Print immediately if it is ticked.
7. Then go back ,Select message>Further data>Dispatch time>Select 'Send immediately (when saving application)'
Back and save PO.
8. Check SCOT. PO will be in the waiting list. If u want to see the detailed list of waiting items then go to transaction SOST. Specify the Send date, select the check box Waiting & execute.
If you want further details Please check the SAP note 191470.

If you want a particular document in PDF , Goto SE38 enter program as RSTXPDFT4 , Enter Spool number of the document generated while print output that you want to convert in to PDF. Give location where you want to save. open the file in PDF format. Then attach this file to the email.

Trouble converting powerpoint files with png images to pdf-Can someone help?

Hello all,
In my line of work, I create and modify large sized posters that are created in powerpoint. I would have the files print ready by converting them to pdf. I usually have little to no issues executing this. However, I have been dealing with an issue of converting ppt files with png images. The size of the ppt is typically a 42x56 file. The several ways to convert to pdf produces an error each time. Png images are very useful as they provide much clarity vs jpegs or tiffs. The 3 ways I have tried below are:
A) File>Print>Adobe PDF>High Quality print settings/300dpi results to an error message that says:
     "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current print setup. Try one of the following:
     *Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
     *Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
     *Reinstall the printer driver"
     A blank pdf opens up (Selected to open file after publishing)
B) File>Save as> Change file type as a pdf results in nothing happening. No pdf is produced.
C) Acrobat>Create PDF results to an error message that says: "An unexpected error occured. PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF."
Again, this all happens with ppt files with png images. I took out the png images and attempted to convert to pdf, and the pdf is produced!
Can anyone provide any assistance in creating pdfs with png images or what settings I need to adjust? I am able to covert every other image type (jpeg, tiff, bmp), except for png images.
I am using Microsoft Office 2010 with Adobe Acrobat X on Windows 7 (This happened on Windows XP as well).

PowerPoint only has to store one instance of the image even thought it is
displayed on multiple slides. But Acrobat can't do the same, the image has
to be stored for every page that it appears on, so that would explain the
larger file size.
Acrobat is supposed to be able to optimize the storage of common background
images (at least that's the message I see when I do a "Save as..."), but I
have yet to see it to work. Maybe it depends on the application the orginal
file is created in and the PDF conversion method used.
Adding the image into a PDF file later as a watermark instead may be a way
to keep the size down (then it really only does store the object once),
though I believe that watermark images will appear in front of everything
else on the page (not sure if that's a problem for you, it depends on
whether any text or objects in the presentation ever appear in front of the
image).
What are the dimensions and resolution of the image in PowerPoint? You may
be able to go as low as 75 dpi and not notice a difference, it depends on
whether the image contains any areas of high contrast or text.

What is the best way to convert from PowerPoint 2007 to PDF?

In PowerPoint 2007 I know you can convert to a PDF by way of printing, save as or from the Adobe menu. However, these produce different results.
Is there a reason for this? Can settings be changed to ensure the results are the same regardless of what method is used?
Is there a rule of thumb on which method is best?

A lot depends on what you are after. If you use the printer, you will likely need to use a custom page setting to fill out the page properly and not leave spaces on the sides. I think the standard PPT page is 8.5X10, not 11. PDF Maker (or the Save As Adobe PDF) in PPT sets the size appropriately when I have used it. PDF Maker also adds links and such as appropriate, but the printer does not. Your other option is to use the Save As PDF or XPS which is the MS conversion.
When I tested, the print did go to an 8.5X11 with a border to fit on the page. The other three techniques created the PDF in the same page size as the PPT. The PDF maker and Acrobat menu methods gave the same results, but the file was about 2X the size of the MS method. I did not check the properties that created this different size, but you would have to look at the different options for the creation and see how they compare. The Adobe approach can be kept small also, but may not have used the same options as the MS approach.
If there were links, then the print will not embed these links and bookmarks, but the other techniques will. Maybe that helps some.

Adobe Acrobat 8 - trouble converting Word Doc to PDF

I currently have Adobe Acrobat 8 and Microsoft Office 2007. Everytime I try to convert a word document or powerpoint to Adobe PDF, the application freezes or says not responding. How can I fix this?

At this point my best recommendation is to go to the help menu in Acrobat and do a repair (you can also do that from the add/remove programs menu in the control panel). After that, you may want to do updates to AA8, though I already mentioned the updates. I am assuming your XP is a 32-bit system.
You should be able to test Distiller by applying it to any PS file. Normally I suggest creating the PS file by simply printing to the Adobe PDF printer with "print-to-file" selected. The printer creates a PS file this way. However, you are indicating this step does not work as I understand it and that would suggest that Distiller is not the problem. If you were successful with the print to file and the problem was at the Distiller step, then that really suggests the need for a repair and possibly and update to fix the Distiller problem.
