Trouble Importing Canon XF Files at 1080 60i (59.94i)?

I am completely new with Premiere Pro and editing in HD for that matter. I am still using the trial version of Premiere Pro CS5.5. My issue is that I shoot on an Canon XF300 at 1080 60i. When selecting a new project I select the following Preset [Canon XF MPEG2 1080i30 (60i)]. This is the only Preset setting I see that is 1080i and at 60i?
My issue is that I can view my XF files in the Media Browser and their properties read 59.94i, however when I import them into PP CS5.5 their properties then read 29.97 fps.
I shoot fast moving objects that require the 60i setting - how can I import these Canon XF 1080 60i (59.94i) clips into a project/sequence with the same 59.94i setting? I have looked at the manual and additional published articles and thought my issue was due to me using the Trial version, however in CS5.5 it is supposed to have all codec support so I think I ruled that out.
Any help will be much appreciated!!!
Thanks!
Chris

Thanks Jim for the response - so I am using the correct setting after-all. Apparently I do not understand the difference between frame rate and field rate.... it has been a truely monumental learning curve shooting with this camera and now this editing software. I am having fun with the stunning footage but it has been frustrating at times.
One additional question - why does the Media Browser list the "Frame Rate" of these clips as 59.94i and in the Project folder the "frame rate" is 29.97 fps? - Is it because the 29.97 FPS is literally 30 frames displayed per second and the 59.94i is the interlaced 60 frames to make the 30 fps? Obviously you can probably tell I am a novice.
I should then expect that this playback of this "60i" footage on my computer display will not look as smooth as the playback through a blu-ray on a HD TV?
Thanks again and I appreciate the help!

  • Ripping dvd and importing it into an hd 1080 60i project

So ive recieved a dvd and im trying to use handbrake to rip it and import it into my hd 1080 60i project. Ive tried doing either an avi or mpg4 files with different frame rates but still nothing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're trying to import it into FCE, it needs to be DV/(HDV), not AVI or MPEG4. Try using MPEG Streamclip + the QT MPEG2 Playback Component. Handbrake isn't going to get you where you need to go.

Chances are the pinnacle is producing .avi files or MPEFG1/2 streams - iTunes may know how to decode the audio but not the video. Download Handbrake and try running the Pinnacle files through it and adding to iTunes - use Universal format unless you have a specific device in mind.
    Keep copies of the originals.
Another option might be to try to install Perian.  Can't remember if the Apple MPEG2 plugin allows MPEG2 to be played in iTunes.

  • Problems Importing Canon XF Files

I am running Premiere Pro CC (v 7.2.1) under Windows 7. I import footage created on a Canon XF300 and XF100, among other cameras. Prior to v7.2.1, I would import XF by clip name, each clip containing one or more 2 GB files. The files would load separately, with a length of about 5 minutes. When placed in a sequence, the files would be loaded sequentially, but remain separate. They would play across the boundaries without jumping or losing sync. While not convenient when editing, I completed many projects in this manner. The time code of each file was displayed as recorded, head-to-tail with the previous file.
With 7.2.1, the same video is automatically merged when imported into the project. Each file assumes the same content as the entire clip. However the time code has the same starting value as the last file in the clip, whether I import directly from Windows Explorer (ctl-I) or use the media browser. This appears to be what version 7 intended to do, and I can work with it.
Whatever the merits of this "improvement," it is not documented well. It took me a day and a half searching the web and experimenting before I could proceed. Thank heavens for the holidays and extended deadlines.
My problem is, projects completed under previous versions and updates did not automatically merge the clips, but when I open them in the latest PPro, it attempts to "correct" this deficiency and merge the files. Consequently, I cannot revisit earlier files without starting from scratch. I have CS6, but only files created in that or earlier versions can be opened.
How do I best proceed to open recent projects without messing them up? When will the product manual (PDF) be updated from the October 2013 version? What ever happened to the concept, "backward compatibility"?

Here is what I found out...
If you use Media Browser to import files directly from the Canon XF card, and select the Canon XF option in the menue, only a single file appears in the list, with the name of the first segment in the clip directory. If you import that file, it has the contents of the sum of all segments, but with the starting time code of the last segment.
If you copy the clip directories from the card to your hard drive, Media Browser sees all of the individual segments and does not offer the Canon XF import option, only the File Directory option. If you import the clip, all of the segments appear in the project window, but each segment is identical to the first, and contains the sum of all clips and the starting time code of the last segment.
If you remove the CIF files from the clip directory on the hard drive, PPro 7.2.1 imports each segment without merging their contents. Each segment contains about 5 minutes of footage (50 MHz video), and the starting time code of each segment is consecutive. This is same the way PPro 7.1 and previous versions would import Canon XF files from the hard drive, even if the CIF files were present. If you open an earlier project with 7.2.1, these files will be automatically merged, destroying the integrity of your sequences and edits.
In conclusion, if you want to use the full power of 7.2.1 to merge the segments within a clip, from a copy of the clip on your hard drive, import only the first segment of each clip.
If you wish to use 7.2.1 on projects created with 7.1 or earlier, remove the CIF files from the clip first, and the project will be opened with the same individual segments as before. (This does not change the behavior under v6 or V7.1, since these versions ignored CIF files on the hard drive.) You must be careful to use shift-select-all to move all following segments together. Alternately, you can nest the segmented sequence inside another sequence, which will allow you to edit the sequence as a single file.
PPro 6 and 7 apparently imported Canon XF files correctly ONLY from the original card, which has certain directory names and structure, and ONLY if you used Media Browser with the Canon XF import option. If you do this, PPro writes additional information (XMP and PEK) files on the card, which may render it unreadible on the camera. In any case, it's best to preserve the original intact and work from a hard drive copy.

  • CS6 fails to import Canon .mxf files. In CS5.5 it works always great.

On CS6.01 I can not import Canon mxf video footage. There is always import failure message window. Same result if I copied CF Card to Hard disc.

    Any idea?

CS5.x is obsolete software and is no longer supported by Adobe ever since CS6 was released.  The last version of the Camera Raw plug-in to run with CS5.x was ACR 6.7.1. There will be no further updates for CS5.x.
You need to look for, download, install, launch and run the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.8 on each batch of raw files that cannot be opened in ACR 6.7.1.

  • Trouble Importing ANY movie files

Everytime I go to import a mov. file, I get this error message that I've attached.
Using cs4 and never had this problem before yesterday.
I know this isn't much info, but can anyone SIMPLY DEFINE the nature of this message and why it would tell me that?
    Thanks you so much!

Yes, this article was very helpful. I want to try and erase the xmp files associated with the project....but after doing a search of my system cannot see or find any XMP files associated with this project. I even tried starting a new project and importing in all the assets, but I get errors doing that as well.
I guess I need to learn about XMP files!
Thanks for your caring help, I know some of this stuff baffles even the most seasoned vets...lol.
I have included a screen shot if anyone else wants to take a gander.

  • I am having trouble importing canon camera raw cr2

could not import RAW files from card reader i am useing a canon 50D and it produces CR@ files.
is iPhoto unable to process canon raw?

The Raw from very model of camera - that's model, not make - is different. The Cr2 your 50D produces is not the same as a CR2 from a 40D.
So, yes, iPhoto is able to process Canon Raws from supported cameras.
Your 50D is supported by 10.6 and iPhoto 11. Did you get any error messages when you tried to import?

  • FCPX won't import Canon CF files

At my wits end here... I have a CF card that was shot on a Canon XF305, I have downloaded the Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro X 2.2, all the folders are in place.
I keep getting this: (No importable files)
    What am I missing????

hmmm, the folder structure starts with the CONTENTS folder on the CF card that was sent to me (nothing precedes it)--perhaps that's a clue? Never worked with mxf files before, so I wouldn't know.  (on a side note, VLC media player seems to playing back the mxf files fine)

  • Trouble importing Canon XF in CC

After reading all the current posts on Canon XF, I thought it best to ask this question.
    Working in Premiere CC 7.1.0
I just started to notice some issues with footage I am bringing in from ShotPut transferred Canon XF media off my edit array.
The first issue was that there were no spanned clips showing up, and that they were all the clips wer starting at the exact same time.  After trying to reset the timecode unsuccessfully a few times on the clips, I then created spanned files in XF Utility, so I could work around that issue.
Now I am importing a different project and I am getting entire cards that won't import using either the Media Browser or File/Import.  I can import each file individually, but thought that this was riduclous to do for 40 clips on a piece of software that claims flawless integration with camera formats.
What in the world is going on with this?  I am just noticing this since going to Creative Cloud, and after I moved to 7.1.0
For the record I have since updated the C300 firmware to the latest "Safe" firmware 1.0.9.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    p

Thanks, but too late for this issue as the card have already gone out on another job.
But I did have the spanning problem with file directories transferred via Finder in a different shoot/edit.

  • IMovie 09 has trouble importing large video files from my JVC HD-40. I am trying to edit files such as these in 09. What should I do? Would buying iMovie 2011 help? I am shooting AVCHD files instead of the other mpeg2 file format.

    Hi,
I am new into the Apple Community. I have a camcorder known as the JVC GZ-HD40 US and I currently am trying to use iMovie 2009 to edit my movies. With my camcorder, I have the choice to use two different video formats: AVCHD or Mpeg2. All my videos are shot in the AVCHD (HD) file format. This camcorder also has a 120 G Hard Drive built into it. When I plug in the camcorder through USB to my MacPro, the Hard Drive of the camcorder shows up as a icon on the desktop. Many of my video clips are at least thirty minutes in length, inside the camcorder. When I try to import in iMovie my video files, it only imports around ten minutes of the video and skips to the end of the clip. I would greatly prefer to use my MacPro desktop to edit movies instead of my Windows 7 computer which seems to work fine. Is there a solution to this problem? Would the new iMovie 2011 application solve this problem? I also have the Final Cut Express to work with, and also, can't get it to work. What should I try doing?

    Hi all,
I have the exact same problem. I've just been to Thailand with my girlfriend, and we recorded a lot of stuff with my brand new Sony HD camcorder. And whenever the we ran out of camcorder memory we just emptied everything onto my HP laptop using the supplied Sony software, which produced m2ts files. When we got home, I realized that my Mac Pro/iMovie09 was not able to import this format. What a huge disappointment! Especially considering the fact that I just bought my mac back in March (my first mac ever) only for video editing and music composing (no problems with music composing, however!).
Well, I needed a solution, so last week I just bought the Voltaic HD converting software (35$), and it works great. No problems. Only thing is that my Mac Pro (quad intel core) had to work 24 hours a day for four straight days/nights in order to finish the converting job - resulting in 434 GB worth of mov-files. This is no problem as such, and the quality is great. BUT it seems rather stupid that this converting has to take place. If I use Sony Vegas on my PC, it works out of the box with my original m2ts-files. And I would really appreciate if Apple would implement a simple import function of m2ts-files in their software - one that would (if necessary) automatically convert the files to mov. Or even better: would work natively with the m2ts-files.
    Best,

  • , Trouble importing from text file into PDF Acrobat 9.0

    Hey all!
I'm trying to use the JavaScript found on this Adobe page to insert text into my PDF:
    http://help.adobe.com/livedocs/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/h tml/wwhelp.htm?context=Acrobat9_HTMLHelp&file=JS_API_AcroJS.88.502.html
    this.importTextData("/c/data/myData.txt", 0);
Replacing the path with my own path, of course.  However, I can't get it to work at all, it just crashes my JavaScript.  I was thinking it might have something to do with the privilege stuff which, admittedly, confuses me a bit.  But my understanding is that if you use the function without arguments, that shouldn't matter, and it will prompt the user for a path?
    this.importTextData();
However, that still crashes the JavaScript.  I'm not sure what exactly I am doing wrong here?
NOTE: I have tried running the JavaScript both in a checkbox and on page load.

Well I was having trouble getting it to work without a path, though that kind of mysteriously started working now despite the fact that I didn't really change anything.  I also assumed that part didn't apply to me because we are on 9, not 8, but maybe it means 8 and on?
I'm having a bit of trouble wrapping my mind around privileged and non-privileged contexts.
These methods can be executed only in a privileged context, which includes console, batch and application initialization events.
What would be the simplest way to execute in a privileged context?  "Application initialization" sounds promising, does this mean when the application is first opened?  If so, how would you execute JavaScript this way?!

  • Trouble Importing Large mp3 File

I have a very large mp3 file (extension is .mp3, lower-cased) and I'm trying to import it into GarageBand so I can split it up into multiple files to make multiple podcasts out of it. The file is roughly 500MB and 8.5 hours long. I did not record it (hotel sound recording staff at our conference did) so I don't know what sort of settings were used in saving it as an mp3. It imports into iTunes and plays fine there.
When I try to drag it into a podcast track, GarageBand gives me an "Importing" message for a minute or two and then nothing happens (blank track, file not there). The same thing happens if I try to drag the version that plays fine in iTunes into GarageBand.
What can I do to get my file to a point where I can edit it?
If I need to convert it to something other than an mp3, can you tell me what (free?) software I need to download in order to do so?
    Thank you!

  • Trouble Importing PowerPoint 2003 file into Adobe Captivate 3

I am using Adobe Captivate 3 and am having difficulty importing a owerPoint 2003 file.  The file has 26 slides but Captivate only recognizes 17 of them.  The powerpoint file has no transitions or animations set that would cause any issues.  Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
By the way when I open up Powerpoint and import the slides from my original file and do not keep the source formatting, the end file will be come into captivate fine(all 26 slides) but an animation that was not there originally now exists.

    Hi there
You could try just running the PowerPoint and recording it from Captivate as it plays.
You would also want to report the issue as a bug.

  • Trouble importing a Pagemaker file into CS 5.5

I am VERY new to ID 5.5 (today is my first day). I m trying ID because it is supposed
to import Pagemaker files So in my first attemp to open a PM6 file it fails.
But i'm so new I dont even know who to 'point the finger at'.
The non-working symptom is that the PM doc has a number of images
which ARE importing correctly, and  bunch of body  text which also
is importing correctly. But each imported image has  small text area
associated with each one that contained a photo title in the original
PM file. The 'title' areas import as text box ares but the text boxes
    are EMPTY.
I am to new with ID5.5 to even know where to start.  I cannot load
the former PM files  because my former PM was on a Windows XP
system, and I'm now on an Win7 (64bit) system and can no longer
install Pagemaker on this Win7 system.
I would be pleased to load any of the files if that wouls help.

Bad news. Defaults only affect things in the future, not existing work, so you'll have to go spread by spread and make adustments in the files you already have.
For new work, Text Wrap should not be turned on by default, but best to check. With no docs open, open the Text Wrap panel and be sure the icon on the far left is chosen (no text wrap). You'll want to do the same for every old file you open to be sure you don't add unwanted text wrap to every new object you add. In ID, setting defaults, with a few exceptions, works this way. Things you set with no files open affect all new files, things done in existing files with nothing active or selected become the new default for the current file.
As I mentioned earlier, you can set the application preferences for text wrap to only affect text below the wrapped object (essentially mimicing PageMaker and Quark), so that might be another option for you in these converted files, but in general, it's a bad way to go for any "modern" file where you might want to actually make use of the additional features ID has to offer like transparency, blend modes and drop shadows, and support for placing tranparent images. Not obvious is that ALL of those things actually involve transparency-type blending, and when transparency is involved your type is at risk of being converted to outlines or rasterized for output. Keeping type at the top of the stack minimizes this risk, usually preventing problems entirely, but there are times when you might want text wrap to affect this text which is above an image in the stacking order. That's waht makes the default behavior so powerful -- you can have an image affect some text and not other by using the ignore text wrap option in the text frame options, but still use transparency effectively.
