Trouble installing Jam Pack #1 (the original)?

Also posted in Logic but it also makes sense to post here unless there are rules against cross-posting.
Recently doing a migration from a PPC to a Mac Pro.
Anyway, I was trying to reinstall Jam Pack 1 (the original Jam Pack) to use with Logic Pro. I was also planning on using it in Garageband.
When I tried to install, I kept getting the error "Installation cannot continue until the GarageBand application is installed." But it was installed.
Did a bit of digging. Found this:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1989594&#1989594
Which led me to examine my directory structure in the Applications Folder. Turns out I had moved Garageband into a subfolder and the installer wasn't able to find it. I just moved it back to its normal spot and the installer was happy.
I hope this helps someone else.

also applies to the 1.01 update found here:

  • Installed Jam Pack but see no new loops in Garageband loop browser. Why not?

I successfully installed Jam Pack but don't see new loops in Garageband loop browser. Is there some extra step I'm supposed to do? Before, I had about 57 Rock/Blues loops, and I still have just that. I had 14 instruments under All Drums, and guess what? Still only 14.
I know the install completed successfully - it said so, anyway.
    Clues?

Have you filters set on the Loop Browser?  Make sure the GarageBand Preference "Loops > Keyword Browsing > Filter for more relevant content" is off.  Otherwise you will  see a fraction of the available loops.
To see, if the JamPack has been installed, set the pop-up meu at the top of the Loop Browser to "Rhythm Section". Is that available?
Did you reindex your Loops after installing the Jam Pack? And did you restart the Mac? In Mt. Lion only restarting a Mac will ensure, that an application is not resumed from a cache, when you launch it again.Restarting the Mac will terminate GarageBand for sure.
If restarting the Mac does not make the JamPack Loops show, rebuild the Loop index.  See:  Rebuilding the Loop Index in GarageBand 6 or earlier - Apple Support

  • Install jam pack on external drive

    Hi all
I'm a Logic 8 user, and need to install the jam packs onto an external drive, as my powerbook hard drive is almost full.
I haven't been able to figure out a way to do it, because, when I put the jam pack contents disk in my drive to install, a dialog box tells me to install the jam packs from the Logic install disk.
In spite of the fact that the read me file says that I can "freely install" the larger audio files anywhere, the Logic Install disk won't let me do this. It does not give the the option to change disks, even though I have deselected all the install options, except for Jam Pack. It actually seems that the steps you need to take to run the installer are backwards. You have to choose the disk on which to install Logic, and then choose what elements of Logic to install, so I can never choose the external hard drive!
Does anyone know why this might be. or can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Angus Armstrong

Seriously? They really make you install everything on the internal and then move it over? Why would this be the case? Doesn't that get a little messy with re-indexing everything. I installed the basic install disc info a while ago, and have been holding off on the jam packs until I get the external, just to avoid a little wear and tear on my internal drive. I guess I might as well install them now? And move them over later?

  • How can I install Jam Packs on a new Mac Mini?

I've a lovely new mac mini, but the little bugger has no disk drive.  I migrated several jam packs over from my old mac mini only to get a troubling error message requiring tht I reinstall the jam packs.  Alas, they refuse to be installed from a network drive using CD/DVD drive sharing. • Error when installing jam pack/audio content on new imac

Keep trying to install the audio/jam pack cd´s that came with my Logic Studio bundle on my new Imac/Leopard. When i´m almost done installing, it asks for the "logic" cd and then after a while i´m getting an error "installation failed"- disk corrupted" or something? I cannot as it works now find (almost) any of the audio files that i´m using (brass/horn sounds etc..). Anyone who´s had the same experience?
    Thanks!

Also seeing this problem. I'm updating to latest logic and 10.5.3 right now to see if it mitigates it.

  • LE 8 doesn't see all of my installed Jam Packs

Just setting up a new mac. I installed all the Jam Packs. After that I brought up Garageband and when I click on "Loops" it show the following list. I did notice that when Garage Band came up, it indicated that it was searching for Jam Packs...
    Garage Band
    iLife Sound Effects
    Jam Pack Remix Tools
    Jam Pack Rhythm Section
    Jam Pack Symphony Orchestra
    Jam Pack Voices
    Jam Pack World Music
I then installed Logic Express 8. I launched it and when I click on "Loops", I'm missing 2 of the Jam Packs. I only see:
    Garage Band
    iLife Sound Effects
    Jam Pack Remix Tools
    Jam Pack Voices
    Jam Pack World Music
Can I drag the missing Jam Packs on to Logic? I don't want to make copies, just want them to be seen there.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

One more observation. I tried dragging just one file over from the Orchestra folder (Academy Cello 01). I then searched for it and found it. I then searched for "Academy Viola 01", but it didn't find it. I ended up dragging over the set of 5 Academy sounds and now if I search for just "Academy" to all show up in the search results. The only bad thing is I don't actually see the "Symphony Orchestra" pack in the list. I guess I can live with that, but it would be nice to see them all there, just so I know which ones I have. Dumb, I know...
If you know of any other way, please let me know.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • How do you add Jam Packs to the Logic Express 8 Loop Library?

I'm new to both Logic Express and Jam Packs. I just installed the new Voices Jam Pack and it is installed in the audio folder in my user library but it isn't recognized by logic, since the loops don't show up in the loop browser. I do not know how to add them to my loop library so if anybody knows how to add them I would greatly appreciate any advice. Also, when I installed logic express, my garageband loop library disappeared; is this just because all the loops were converted to a new format for logic to use?

Simply drag & drop your Voices Jam Pack folder into the LE8 loops browser and they will be indexed and added to the library. See page 644 in the manual for more information.
Re: GarageBand loops, you can check your HD/Library/Audio and your ~/Libray/Audio for all your Apple loops to make sure you still have your GB loops in either .aif or .caf formats. I still have both versions on my iMac, but if I remember correctly, when I installed LE8 I created a new folder for Apple loops in order to preserve my originals. Once you find your GB loops, try dragging & dropping them into GB's loop browser. If their format was changed perhaps GB just needs you to point to them.

  • Keystation 49e toasted after installing Jam Pack

I have an M-audio Keystation 49e that I have used mostly for music composition using my iBook and a nice shareware program, Melody Assistant. Lately my son has been using the keyboard a lot for composition on an iMac using GargageBand. He has been desperate for a JamPack to get better souunds, so I got him the Orchestral JamPack for his Birthday yesterday. The sounds are indeed excellent. However, a little while (~30 min) after installing the JamPack, the keyboard stopped working, first intermittently, like when changing an instrument, then completely. No sound, no indicator lights, nothing getting recorded. Thinking it was a driver problem, I installed the latest M-audio driver I could find (3.1) but no dice. Hoping to debug the issue, I plugged the keyboard into my iBook and now it doesn't work there either! When I try to use Melody Assistant, a weird error message comes up saying "An OS X midi driver has been recognized but gives do information about output destination." I tried our other iMac (without the new JamPack installed), and it doesn't work there either. Looking at the USB section under "About this Mac", the keyboard is being recognized correctly, but it does not seem to be able to send notes to any program on any of our macs. It seems like installing the JamPack has somehow broken the keyboard, but I have no idea how this could be or what to do about it. Any suggestions appreciated!
Intel imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The M-Audio driver is irrelevant: it is used to recognize extra controls on the more advanced keyboards. The 49e does not require a driver.
Since the keyboard doesn't work on another computer either it seems unlikely that the Jam Pack has got anything to do with it. I would suspect a hardware fault in the keyboard or the lead. Try replacing the USB lead first, then if that doesn't help you may need to see if you can get a repair.

  • Installing jam packs from DVD on Lion

When I got my new iMac last year it came with Snow Leopard. At the time, I attempted to install all my jam packs (I have all of them) and it gave me an error that Rosetta was not installed. After installing it, I was able to install my jam packs, which i use with GarageBand and Logic Express.
I hear that Lion no longer supports Rosetta. Anyone know how to install the jam packs? Can I copy the jam pack folder to an external drive and then copy them back? Seems like the installation is a "package", which may not work if I don't run it from the install DVDs.
    Thanks

If you install Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion on top of your Snow Leopard, then the Jam Packs will will continue to work. If you make a clean install of Lion, then you will have a problem with the installers, for Lion does not support Rosetta. Then the best you can do will be to restore the library folders containing the Apple Loops and the Instruments Library from your (Time Machine) Backup.
        /Library/Audio/Apple Loops
       /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops
       /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library
For a clean install you might consider to invest into purchasing MainStage 2 - it is much cheaper than any of the Jam Packs ever has been, but will install all the JamPacks to be used with GarageBand and Logic.

  • Installing Performance Pack without the setup prog

I'm trying to install the Windows Performance Pack from my own installation program without having to run the normal JMF setup. I can install the cross-platform version but the AVIs I need to display are in a codec only supported by the Windows Performance Pack. (The installations where the AVIs are needed are only on Windows - people running UNIX don't seem to need the tutorial movies ;) ).
I could also convert the AVIs to a different codec and use the cross-platform version, but I would prefer to keep them in their original form.
Has anyone done this? I would assume this is legal as long as I include the license files, etc in the installation.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I found the following on the JMF mailing list in case someone else is interested:
    http://swjscmail1.java.sun.com/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0107&L=jmf-interest&D=0&P=6559
I haven't tried it yet but I believe it will work. I'll post again either way for anyone who's interested.

  • How do I install jam pack on os x lion

I've recently up graded to OSX Lion and found that when i have opened Garageband all the instruments and loops are missing from Jam Pack Remix tools so most of the tunes saved won't play. I've contacted Apple Software support (at great cost) they tell me its because the jam pack are power pc they won't work.
Surely Apple haven't upgraded the OS so you lose everything you've done on garageband? Has anyone got a solution to resolve this? Thanks.

The problem is, that the installers of the Jam Packs are power pc programs, that will not run on Lion.
The Instruments and loops however still work with Lion.
If you have a TimeMachine backup of your system from the time before the migration, you could try to restore the loops library from your TimeMachine backup, you will need to reinstall all folders and subfolders from
          /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/
An other approach would be to rip the PowerPC installation disk: If you open the package (ctls click-> Show Package contents) you will see installers for the loop libraries and folders with loops and instruments. An example how to rip those packages is in this thread:

  • When installing an upgrade, does the original software need to be present on the computer?

I lost my extra hard drive which housed Premiere Pro 1.5 which was an "upgrade" package from Premiere 4.5. When I reinstalled the PP 1.5 on a newly installed drive it acts as though it cannot find some codecs or at least it doesn't recognize compression of files I previously created with it. Are all parts of a package included with the upgrade or does it use some of the original package? Since the original P4.5 never resided on the new disk I'm wondering if that is the problem. If so do I need to install the original P4.5 then reinstall the PP1.5 over the top? Help. I know this is an old package but it serves my purposes if I can just get it to work again!

How do you then get the little icon next to the bluetooth icon at the top of the screen to display. The icon that when you click on it, it gives the option to Open Airport Disk Utility.

  • Trouble installing fix pack 3

    Hello,
I was able to get the service pack onto my computer and the folders are available when I click on the folder with the executable file I continue to click on a number of folders (package, langs, de, setup). When I get there and try to run it I get an error message saying:
An error occured while parsing installer setup file and then gives the file path it also then says OR the file could not be located.
Am i storing the file in the wrong place?

Don't think you have to put the Fixpack files any place special.  Are you sure you have the Fixpack for the Xcelsius version you have installed on your PC? There are a few different Xcelsius offerings and the Fixpack must be from the corrresponding flavor.
