Trouble loading some web pages but not others

having a little trouble lately...
For some reason safari and, well, any other browser, come to think of it isnt work on particular pages.
Example. The other day google.com wasnt coming up just spinning its wheels then saying:
Safari can’t open the page “http://google.com/” because it could not connect to the server “google.com”.
Another example: Safari could not open the page “http://cbgundaker.com/” because the server stopped responding.
I called my ISP and sat thru 2 hours worth of trouble shooting and got nowhere. They thought it was a DNS issue but I can reach the sites from other machines in the network so it looks like it is only effecting this particular powerbook. I've sat two machines down next to each other and it'll work on one but not the other(same wireless or wired network). annoying.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
p

pardon me for butting in, this problem is driving me crazy.
i just tried your dns thing, no effect.
what i can't understand is why does my iBook display all 5 pages that i can't display on my iMac? i visit these sites everyday
-the bookmarks are synced between the two, iBook and iMac use same internet
-i copied the iBook plist for internet and safari over to my iMac-no change
-i did all the resets, clear cache, disk utility, ditch plists
-safari, camino, opera, firefox, shirra do not open these 5 pages
-macworld.com opens fine, macworld.com/news/ does not
-my admin account does not display these 5 pages
-i turned on airport, connected to someone's unprotected network and tried the sites to no avail (i have my own wired internet connection)
-it hangs on the 2nd to last item in the progress bar, ie "8 out 9 items"
-this all started sometime after the last security update and before10.4.6
i am at wits end!

    Greetings Kate,
Have you tried emptying the cache? Or second, resetting Safari, which will take out all your cookies and other caches. If this doesnt work, perhaps use OnyX (free from the Apple download site under your Apple menu) to repair permissions, and deep clean caches (users and kernel) and repair permissions.

  • Safari won't load some web pages.

Ever since installing Mavericks, Safari won't load some web pages (including these Apple support pages). I'm able to load the pages using Chrome or Firefox. Does anyone know of any settings in Safari 7 or the Mavericks system preferences that would be causing this?
    -Greg

I had the same problem... I ran disk repair and repaired all permissions on the HD then reopened safari now it's working fine.

  • Safari will not finish loading some web pages

I just bought a new macbook pro. As soon as I got it I started installing programs I use (photoshop, lightroom, Chrome, Firefox, etc).  It seemed that from the beginning Safari didn't work properly, but in reading more about my problem maybe it's because I have downloaded programs that changed Safari.
Some web pages work fine, but some don't.  For instance, even the Apple.com site won't load all the way in Safari.  Links or images will be missing.  I tried to fill out a form and when I got to the bottom of the page the "submit" button was missing and I couldn't submit the form.  I try the same page in Chrome and it works just fine.  Firefox is even worse at loading the website though.
I've been trying to read other people's questions to figure it out but no one seems to have the exact same problem.  I tried changing the DNS and reinstalling Safari and it made no difference.  Then I read some advice from Linc Davis to create a guest user.  I tried loading Apple.com in Safari under the guest user and it worked perfect.  Then I tried booting in safe mode as Linc Davis suggested others do and I still had the same problem with Safari, no improvement.  At least I think I was in safe mode.  I turned off my computer and when I turned it back on and heard the chime I held down the shift key.  The grey apple screen came up with the gear turning, but when it came to the log in screen it didn't say "safe mode."  Is there any indication to tell you you are indeed in safe mode?
Any way I restarted normally and can't figure out how to fix Safari.  Any suggestions? Linc Davis?

To anyone who has this same question, I had to find the answer on my own and thought I would post it for you.  I was kind of annoyed that Apple wouldn't even try to help me.  After searching forever on Apple's support pages I finally did a google search and went to some outside sources to find the answer.  I narrowed down that the problem Safari was having was not being able to load images on any website.
    Here was the solution:
    I opened Finder
Opened the Go menu and held down the option key to open the hidden Library folder
    Opened Preferences
Then I deleted all the com.apple.Safari files (there were 4)
Ta Dah! Safari instantly works again.  Hope this can help someone else out in my predicament.

  • Some web pages do not stop loading

When I am browsing the internet certain web pages do not stop loading at all; the activity icon rotates continuously and when this happens my CPU loads go to around 25-30% continuously across all my cores (2 or 4 depending on the machine I am using) vs. around 2% if a page loaded completely. So this situation is wasting electricity and heating up my machines unnecessarily.
I am using the latest version of Firefox 5 within openSUSE linux 11.3 and 11.4, as well as in Win XP and 7 Ultimate on two separate computers, both desktops.
The problem is the same in any of the OS's I use in either machine, and what is worse, it is happening since some of the last iterations of Firefox 3.6, and then 4 as well.
Disabling all privacy settings individually, or in any combination, do not stop the problem. Nor can I eliminate it by disabling Java, or by using the latest Flash and Adobe Reader versions.
Fortunately, this does not happen in all web sites. Others might load the initial page, but stop loading all subsequent pages within that site or just a few. businessweek.com behaves in this last way.
If I manually stop the loading, as far as I can tell the entire page loaded completely from the first moment. Everything is in there; so apparently there is (are) some kind of a common process(es) where Firefox enters a never-ending loop.

I have the problem using Firefox 8.0.1.
Particularly when loading any '''https:// '''websites and control panels.
This occurs in XP Pro SP3 / Windows Vista Ultimate / and Windows 7 Ultimate.
This did not occur in Firefox 8.0

  • Safari not loading some web pages

Got a problem with Safari where it won't load certain web pages. This happens when I try to click on the buy button on certain web sites (such as Amazon), but not on all web sites. Safari tries to load the page but stops before any content is downloaded. I've tried re-installing the software, re-setting Safari, emptying the cache, cookies are enabled, and proxies are unchecked. If I run Internet Explorer I can access the pages that Safari won't download. Anyone got any suggestions????

Do you have Little Snitch installed? If so, check the Little Snitch preference panel (under System Preferences) to make sure that there are not any Little Snitch rules denying Safari access to any ports. If only HTTPS sites are being effected, specifically check the rule for Port 443, as Safari needs Little Snitch to allow connections to that.
I am not sure, but I think the update changed these rules around, at least on my computer.

  • IMac won't load some web pages

I just got wireless internet out on my farm and hooked up my fairly new IMac G5 to it. When I connect it directly to the antennae (not through a router) everything works great. When I hook it through a router ( I have used linksys wireless g and a netgear wgr613 v6) the Imac will only load certain web pages. e.g. It will load Apple.com, but won't play the Macworld keynote address. It won't load Ebay at all. It will load cnn.com and others just fine. When I bypass the router, everything loads and works. I have also taken the IMac to work and hooked up to our office ethernet through a router, multiple wireless access points, and hubs, and the IMac works great all of the time. I tried the linksys first and it works for a little while and then fizzles away to nothing working. I then upgraded firmware and it worked a little while longer before dying. The netgear works all of the time for some, but not everything. When I hookup my Windows XP notebook, it works all of the time on either router. I have tried both routers either wireless, or wired, with the same results. Thanks....

Yes, that did it. I put in the two DNS numbers for my ISP and that solved the problem. Still don't understand why that caused it, but yet worked sometimes. Oh well.....Thank you
