Trouble migrating Address Book

I am migrating files from my old PowerBook G4 to my new MacBook Pro and have been able to migrate everything successfully except for my Address Book entries.
I migrated over the /Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder, just like I should have, but no dice.
What should I do?

Delete the existing folder in application support, start the app to make sure it's empty.
Start Disk Utility (applications > Utilities) and verify/repair your permissions.
Restart, then replace the addressbook folder with the old one and test again.
I've been backing up and restoring my addressbook the same way for years and it always works so if my suggestion doesn't help i'll be curious as to what the problem is too.

  • Migrating Address Book from Tiger to Leopard

I migrated all data from old machine (G4 Powerbook) to new machine (MacBookPro), but my address book is now messed up. Contacts are not organized in the same groups as in old machine, and some contacts have multiple addresses that are not correct.
Can I copy files over manually from my old machine to the new one? I know the Address Book info is in the Application Support file, but is there a preference I need to copy as well?
    Thanks!

copy the directory /homedirectory/library/application support/address book and the file home directory/ library/preferences/com.apple.addressbook.plist from the old computer to the corresponding locations on the new one. Make sure that neither Mail nor address book are running when you do this. start Address book and see if it transfered correctly.

  • How to migrate Address book and Stickies without using Migration Assistant

Can anyone direct me on how I can copy over my address book and all of my stickies from one OSx HDD to a new HDD?
I noticed when I went into the Migration Assistant, that some of the options were greyed out such as "Other Data" in my profile and seemed to be pretty huge. So I don't want to use the Migration Assistant because I did a clean install on this machine and I am worried about migrating garbage from my old installation.
    Thanks.

    Hi
With Address Book you can simply open the application, go to File/Export/Address Book Archive, and save. To import on the target Mac/Installation go to File/Import/Address Book Archive.
If the system has become a non bootable system but you can mount the drive then simply go to the relevant users home folder ~/Library/Application Support/ and copy the Address Book folder to the same location on the target Mac/Installation.
For Stickies data simple go to the relevant users home folder ~/Library/ and copy the file entitled StickiesDatabase to the same location on the target Mac/Installation.

  • Migrating address book to 10.5.2, missing phone numbers

I migrated from OS 10.3.9 on a Powerbook G4 to 10.5.2 on my new MacBook Pro. It mostly went well except for an oddity in Address Book. Most data moved over except of some phone numbers. There is no pattern except that on some entries none of the phone numbers came across, sometime a partial list of the numbers came over and sometimes all of the numbers. Has anyone seen this problem? Is there a fix? I saved earlier versions of Address Book backups on disc but am unsure if there is a way to import only the missing data.

    Hi Janderso6,
You can export personal address book by  opening CUCM CLI and type below this commands :
    show tech table personaladdressbook csv
    show tech table personalphonebook csv
and then "file get activelog FileName" to get the files.
Note: There is no way to add these entries via BAT.

  • Migrating Address Book dilemma with iCloud

My Address Book hasn't been syncing on MobileMe for almost two years. MobileMe tech support and even the engineers have tried and failed. Needless to say, it's a bit out of date on my iPhone. Whenever I notice that there's old contact info on my phone, I change it. But it's by no means as current as the Address Book on my MacBook Pro. What is going to happen on iCloud if gets two versions of my Address Book? Will it know which contacts are more current and update or will I have a giant mess on my hands? Is there anyway to have iCloud access only my laptop Address Book? I was hoping to migrate today or tomorrow.
I'd appreciate any advice on avoiding a headon Address Book collision.

If you have a Time Machine backup, you already have a backup of your mail. However if you wish to create just a backup of your mail (on your desktop say), you can do so by clicking on your desktop and then going to the Go menu in the Finder and while the Go menu is displayed, hold down the Alt key on your keyboard. This will reveal your library in the menu, which you can then click to open. Control click on the mail folder that you see within the library, and choose copy Mail from the contextual menu that appears. You can then control click on your desktop and choose paste item from the contextual menu that appears to have picked your mail folder to your desktop.
As iCloud, (if you wil) is the master copy of everything and is held in the cloud, by initiating iCloud on your MacBook you have already sent the data to the cloud from the MacBook by choosing the options you wish to use in system preferences > iCloud. The data in the cloud will then be written to your phone based on the services you choose from settings > iCloud  on your phone.

  • How can i migrate address book server to iCloud?

I was hoping to export an archive of Address Book which is running on my 10.6 server so that I could import it to iCloud's address book.
How can I do this?  I can't see any functionality to import in iClouds's Address Book.
Do I have to have all of these server contacts "On My Mac" before iCloud will play ball?
    thanks!

I don't see a way to import specifically to iCloud.  I tried this but when I select import, it jsut imports it back to the server AB.  I can't select for it to overwrite iCloud.
As for the vCard option, thats for individual contacts no?  I have thousands of contacts... that would take forever!
Thanks for your help, bu what am I missing here?
I suggested exporting to an Address Book Archive, did you do that or did you choose vcard?

  • Trouble synching address book contacts to phone

    here goes:
i recently updated to the newest iOS and newest itunes software. since the update, i have not been able to tranfer all of the contacts from my address book(on my mac) to my phone!  When I plug my iphone in to the computer and go to the info tab, ""Sync Address Book Contacts" isn't even an option. It only says "Sync Contacts". I've even tried the "replace info on this phone" and I still don't get all my contacts from my address book!

    Welcome to discussions Rick,
I don't know of a Bluetooth icon in address book. Are you using iSync? The way I sync only contacts of my choosing is to create a new group in address book called some thing like 'Nokia' add the contacts I want then use iSync to sync the phone using only 'Nokia' group.

  • Trouble managing address book

I am able to add names to the address book, but I don't know how to delete them. I can drag a name to the To field of a new message, but I cannot add any names after that by dragging from address book. I don't see how to create a group in address book. The only heading under Group is All Contacts. I can't seem to find the answers to these questions in the Help menu. Can someone fill me in? Thanx.

    Hi Ken
Are you getting to the Address Book through the icon in Mail, or are you opening it from the Applications folder? Note that you're opening the same contact database, but the Mail shortcut has fewer options. So, open AB from Applications (it is also in your Dock by default, unless you removed it).
To delete a contact, highlight it, and hit the Delete key.
To create a group, click the "+" sign on the very lower left of the Address Book window, or use the File - New Group menu.
Of course you can use the Mail-based shortcut as well, but you can't delete contacts or make groups, as you've found. However, you should be able to send to multiple contacts. Try this: in a new message, open the Address Book shortcut in the toolbar, and multiple-select the contacts you want to send the message to. (If you don't know, you can multiple-select by clicking the first contact, and then holding down the command key and clicking each new one. You can let go of Command once you're done.) Don't drag the contacts to the "To" box - instead, just click the "To" button at the top of the address book window.
    Hope that helps!
    Matt

  • Can't accurately update Address Book from LinkedIn vCard

    Hi everybody,
Unlike when I used Outlook for Windows, I have had trouble updating Address Book with LinkedIn vCards.  If a contact leaves one company for another and I try to update his information, the new company name and title end up being put into the notes field in Address Book. I asked LinkedIn this and got the following reply:
Thanks for reaching out to us - Sorry to hear that importing your contacts isn't working.
Unfortunately, this feature works best with Windows products, like Outlook and was not designed for use with Apple products.
I find this unacceptable and would love any suggestions as to a plugin or extension to make this work.
    Thanks!
    Doug

I'm not sure if this will help.
I have saved some sheets in csv format from Excel, but it seems that the import function from the address book doesn't accept the csv extension.
Saving the data in a txt file did solve the issue.
Make sure that your file extension is .txt and that the data is tab of semicolon delimited.

  • Address Book Delays

I am having trouble with address book. Application opens, but when I try to type a name to search, I get a spinning cursor. I have quit and re-openned application but problem persists. Had been creeping up, but has become intolerable today

Hello. I was researching my own Address Book problem and found this. I think it might help you.

There seems to be some kind of issue with the Smart Groups. Hope it helps.

  • Address book and Mail help needed

Greetings. I recently switched from Entourage to Mail. I'm having some troubles with Address Book and Mail. I hope that someone can help.
    1. I can't seem to find an easy way to determine if an email address is already in the Address Book. In Entourage, if the email address is not in the address book, it gives me the option to add it with a link at the top of the mail window. How can I tell if an email address from an incoming mail is in the Address Book or not?
    2. In Mail, when I right-click on a mail address that I am sure is in the Address Book, it often gives me the option to "Add to Address Book". Other times, it will give me the option to "Open in Address Book". There doesn't seem to be a pattern. Is there something that I can do to fix this inconsistency?
    3. In Entourage, when adding a new email address to the address book, I can just click on the button in the mail window to do that, which automatically opens the new address, and then I can edit information and add a category. In Mail, the same functionality requires several separate steps (Add to Address Book, open Address Book, find new email address, click on edit to make changes, drag to Group). Is there some way to streamline the process in Mail?
    Thanks much.

I have the same problem as #2.
I have a contact who sends me email from two addresses. However, in mail, the two address return different sender names - one is his initial "j" and the other is his full name.
This makes it annoying to sort threads by the "from" field, or search for that sender.
I added both to the address book, opened address book, and selected "merge contacts."
They merged. But in mail, they still return different sender names! Merge failed!
After merge, all the "j" emails still offer "add to address book" when i click them. When I do this, it creates a new address card, and if I merge this with the old merged card, then the email goes back to offering "add to address book" instead of updating all those emails with the sender's full name. Basically Mail is ignoring the address book just for that sender!
I tried "add to address book" -> quit mail -> open address book
    There was the entry.
    Then open mail,
There was the email, "open in address book" appeared and so I did.
I edited the name to match the full name.
Go back to mail. Still listed in mailbox as "j" instead of full name.
Now "add to address book" has returned to the choices!
    Seems like a bug!!!

  • SL Server & Lion Client...iCloud address book dupes

I've been having huge trouble with Address Book duplicates ever since attempting to sync over iCloud.
I suspect the problem has to do with Lion clients connecting to a Snow Leopard OS X Server. My collection of devices includes 2 iPhones, 1 Lion iMac running stand-alone, and 2 Lion iMac's connecting to Snow Leopard Server. The client machines aren't using the Server's address book implementation, but have the users home directory located on the server.
I can get things going so that the 2 iPhones, the standalone iMac, and the Cloud all report the same number of contacts, with no duplicates. This config will remain stable indefinitely (have tested 2 days). But the moment I try to include in the sync one of my office iMacs configured for user home directories on the Snow Leopard Server, the duplicates appear...just minutes later. Then, of course, they propagate and every device shows the dupes, sometimes 2, 3 or 4 times. Probably more would occur, but I pull the plug.
Does anyone else share a similar setup? Success? Trouble?

I AM FACING THE SAME PROBLEM BRO , NOT GETTING A SOLUTION
