Trouble opening online documents in Adobe Reader?

When I click on an online document from a gov. website a page opens up with a small black box in the upper left hand corner but the document doesn't open up even if I click on it. I had downloaded the latest adobe updates. What can I do?

What is your operating system?
What is your Reader version?
What is your browser?

Why can't I open a document in Adobe Reader?

I have been having the same issue since January. Oddly, I can read the docs that I scan as pdf on my iPad but not on my Mac or PC. I receive the following message:
"Adobe Reader could not open '_____.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
It doesn't matter if I use Safari, Chrome, etc.
I have the most up to date Adobe products.

  • When i try to open a document in Adobe Reader, I get a "could not open" msg?  Why?

When I try to open a document in Adobe, I get an error messsage:  "Adobe Reader could not open 'whatever file it is' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  This only happens on some documents, but frequently.  Can anyone help?

Are these Word documents email attachments that you are saving using right-click and Save Link As? It's possible that your email website has changed and instead you need to click the image or use the site's button.

  • Set firefox to open pdf documents in adobe reader via script or GPO

I am trying to change the settings of 400+ Windows 7 PCs with 2-10 users per PC. They all use Firefox and Adobe Reader XI. I would like to know how to use the Mozilla Administrative Template or how to create a GPO to change the default pdf viewer in Firefox to Reader XI. i need a way to be able to configure it so when a user logs into the PC via our domain login Firefox will be automatically configured to open PDF's from Firefox in an Adobe Reader window, otherwise we have to manually configure it and that gets very frustrating after the 2nd PC

  • Open PDF document with Adobe Reader

    Hi everyone,
I am building an application to be published as an AIR app. I need to add a PDF along with the application, so the user needs to have access to this document. When the user clicks to open the PDF is there a way the document can be opened using Adobe Reader and NOT the default browser?
    Thank you for your help!

when clicking to this location from an email http://www.kintera.org/atf/cf/%7B44A7E79F-5565-4339-80EA-4F48AC5FD4AC%7D/GUIDETOFUNDRAISING.PDF
received the following error message that site was busy and it would not complete the load of the document.
It would load the same document at the same site if I used IE 9

    You can try the following:
right click on the item you want to open.
Then select open with: then select default program.
Then you browse to your new Adobe Reader executable, and set the always use this program checkbox.
    should do the trick.

  • There was an error opening this document. Adobe Reader XI

Win Xp, Sp 3. When converting a word-dokument  with Acrobat Elements 7.05 the immediately opening in Adobe Reader XI fails with several of the "well known" messages "There was an error opening this document. File not found" and "There was an error opening this document. Access denied" (translated from Danish).
The fix by setting this registry entry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\Privileged]
    "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000
seems to help. But is that a sane solution?

    Hi P.Allan,
By making the registry setting entry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\Privileged]
    "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000000
    Reader will become unsecure.
Please make it back to 00000001 to make Reader more secure.
Also, please let me know the following:
    1) Is the converted PDF got saved?
    2) If yes, please let know the path where it get saved?
    3) If yes, can the converted PDF file be opened in ReaderXI from next time?
    Thanks
    Shakti

  • Trouble saving multiple documents with Adobe Reader 10

I am unable to download and save multiple PDF documents from a web site. Since I upgraded to Reader 10 this has been a problem.
The first document saves with no problem, However I can't save a second document (have tried using the icon on top of the page as well as the one on the new bar on the document).   When I log off the site and go back in I still can not download the second document.
However, when I log  out and shut down the browser, and then restart the browser I have no problem downloading the second document but can not download another PDF.   I use Firefox 3.6.13 as my browser.
Is there a solution other than trying to reinstall Adobe 9?

After installing Reader 10 (aka Reader X), I had exact same problem --trying to save multiple documents via Firefox browser (up-to-date version 3.6.13), only first document can be saved -- attempts to save 2nd document results in nothing happening.  Uninstalled and reinstalled Reader 10, problem same.  After closing browser, waiting a couple of minutes, could then save 2nd file -- but then could not save 3rd file right away, etc.   Gave up -- uninstalled Reader 10 and went back to Reader 9.4 -- no problems with old version.  Based on other comments on this forum, it seems like Reader 10 is not ready for prime time.

  • If I open a document in Adobe Reader, how do I get it to Acrobat so I can edit it?

I can't find a way to make the font larger so it can be read if I'm faxing it. It's too small.

    Hi Nancy Carr,
You can simply right click the file and choose 'open with' and select Acrobat and your PDF file will open up in Acrobat.
Moreover in order to increase the font size of the text, Click on 'Tools' pane on the right hand side and then select 'Edit text and images' under 'Content Editing' option, then you can easily increase the font size under 'Format' option.
P.S. - This suggestion is applicable to Latest version of Acrobat XI, If you are using different version of Acrobat, and couldn't find any of these options, Please revert back with version no. of your Acrobat software.
    Hope that Helps

  • How do I open a secure document in Adobe reader using my iPhone 5

I Am trying to pay a bill using adobe reader. I understand how to open a document from my emails with the app, but once I open the document in Adobe reader it is still secured and will not let me enter in my account  info to pay the bill. How can this be fix?

Adobe Reader mobile products (Reader for iOS, Reader for Android, etc.) do not support commenting or form filling with secured (hence, encrypted) PDF documents.
Please use the desktop version of Adobe Reader on your Windows or Mac computer to fill in the secured PDF form.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

When opening a pdf document in Adobe Reader the font of the original document is changed....It becomes a mix of the original font and a new different font. How can i fix this

This issue occurs with most of the PDFs that I open up. I am using the latest version of adobe reader on my windows based machine and it is a general PDF. I saw a similar post online stating that if you look at the fonts used in the document and it doesn't say (Embedded) next to it, then Adobe Reader will try to pull the font(s) from your computer and if it doesn't find that font then it will replace it which makes it look funny.
