Trouble registering my MacBook Pro

Hi everyone..I'm having a bit of a trouble registering my MacBook Pro. First, I've gone to the registration page https://register.apple.com/, and filled out all details. In finishing I got a message saying I would get an email confirming the registration. Days later, no email.
So I go to the check warranty status page https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do, and enter my MacBook's serial number. It says it is under limited warranty, which seems ok. I click on "more information", and it says the computer is NOT registered. Weird
So I click on the link on that very same page to re-register, and in finishing I get a message saying the registration cannot be processed at this time.
I have been at this routine 4 or 5 times now, and don't know why it is that I get that error...Is my computer registered? Will I have trouble asking for servicing?
Thanks in advance

AAAARRRGGGHHH! This is maddening. I went through the same endless loops that the first guy on this thread went through. Apple takes you to a page where you are supposed to be able to initiate a phone call back, but it just takes me on loops back to the same page, and I keep getting that dumb message saying they can't provide service at this time. Just what is their online service supposed to be for if it isn't to solve problems. I guess I'll have to be on the phone the next hour on-hold trying to get through to a human being at Apple. And then they will probably want to charge me just to modify my warranty information.

Sounds like you got a used computer and paid new for it, that's illegal.
"Open box" is a return by a previosu customer and can't be sold as new, you should have gotten a discount or informed of such.
Once obvious sign is it doesn't come with free iLife on it, as the drive was erased.

How do I register my MacBook Pro?

The Apple Product Registration website is closed.
If you’re trying to register an Apple product, chances are it’s already registered. Most Apple products can be registered when you turn them on for the first time and begin the setup process. Service and support for your Apple product are linked to its serial number, so it’s OK if you don’t register it. If you'd like to check the service and support coverage for your Apple mobile device or computer, click here.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To register your MacBook Pro to your Apple ID, open http://supportprofile.apple.com, log in with your Apple ID, choose Add Products, and follow the steps. You will have to insert your MacBook Pro's serial number, that you can find in the box or in System Information.
If you set up your Apple ID during the first startup of your MacBook Pro, the MacBook is already registered to your Apple ID with iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand

Clifton I must disagree with you on the above statement. It is my opinion and experience that you should never connect the camera directly to any computer, Mac Windows Whatever.
It is always best to Remove the memory card from the camera and put it in a card reader, whether an external reader or one built into the computer, to copy images from the card.
Hi Shootist. I would be interested in hearing some reasoning on this. I almost always use a USB cable to connect my camera to the MBP for transferring pictures, and have moved about 30,000 this way over the last 6 years since my photography went digital. Recently, on the rare occassions when I have only a few to transfer and I was too lazy to go for the cable, I have used the card reader; about half those times I have difficulty getting the MBP to recognise the card. I find I have to press the card very hard into the slot for it to be recognised.
My rationale is quite possibly wrong, but I feel that the USB connectors are more robust and hard-wearing than the flimsy connectors on an SD card. Also, I haven't measured it, but I think the data transfer is faster with the cable. (I just came across this test, which reports noticeably faster transfer for cable than built-in card reader, but the computer was a PC)
Chiara, sorry for hijacking your thread.

  • Trouble with my MacBook Pro OS X snow leopard

I am having trouble with my MacBook Pro. I get a blank screen with a flashing document file with a question mark in it, yes I have tried to install Mac OS X with the original disk but I get no choices of where I wish to install Mac OS X. Please help ;(

Start up from the install disk. Don't start an install: from the Utilities menu choose Disk Utility. Select your internal hard disk (if you can) in the sidebar and click 'Repair disk'. Wait for the process to complete.
It's possible that the disk has failed. If Disk Utility is unable to complete a repair then you will need the services of an Apple-certified technician.

  • How do i register the macbook pro which i just bought

i just bought  a macbook pro from apple reseller how do i register it as the have not yet done

    Hello, again:
If you have set up the computer, and are online using it with your Apple ID, then it should
be registered even if the seller did not record that item as of yet into an Apple database.
If you have set up the computer and have it running under your Apple ID (to access and
record upgrade/update and also purchase through the App Store and iTunes store) you
may have to contact Apple directly such as I indicated in my post (yesterday, 17 APR '15,
11:40 PM local time) above. -- The time on my earlier reply is not correct, so it may have
been somehow changed by the site host, as that is an odd error; just saying it was prior
to 3:51AM AKDT when I posted that information here; but that's what it implies now.
Usually when you go online and set up the computer, it will automatically go to Apple and
when it checks for software and updates the OS and all that, by use of your Apple ID, it
should be registered then. And you should be able to see evidence of it where warranty
coverage under the Complementary (not extended optional AppleCare, if you are not
enrolled in that, or did not buy it where a reseller could have offered Auto-Enroll Applecare.
So without more information on what you may have done, or if the computer has put in use
by you (to check the authorization of your registration, then, at Apple) I can't add much now
that does not retrace methods to check that've already been posted. Local time: 11:16AM
If you are in the US or Canada, the Apple Store online should be called via the 800-number.
In other countries or regions that have an official presence (an online Apple Store page, not
an independent sales organization) you may have to contact the reseller you bought it from.
If you have questions about your apple product warranty, you may (depending on region) be
able to use the https://getsupport.apple.com/ServiceOptionAction.action get support pages
and if logged into the Apple site, have options (with apple ID used to gain access) to check it.
Pending more information, if the computer has been put into first-use, and if you have used
that online with an Apple ID (yours) then information should verify due to contact with Apple
App Store, so the other pages should automatically reflect that. And the opposite, if not.
So, I am still not certain if you have followed the usual practice of setup and use of Apple ID
with the computer, or if it is still in a sealed retail carton, and the online looking may have
been done by some other computer.  In either case, according to the Apple page that IIIaass
posted (that I see, which contains english and german) suggests that if you have not already
gone online to check for updates via App Store with the computer, but if it is set up and working
online, it may not be necessary to have it registered to have the complementary coverage...
Yet when I use that page, I also see as she did, that my visiting computer is registered, since
it was when I put mine online after purchase and had it set up via my Apple ID initially.
Back to the question, where are you located? Local official 800-numbers for US and other
countries' Apple Store contact are different, based on region or country page; so if you are
not in the US, a number I could post so you could get help (maybe) could be the wrong one.
To contact the reseller (in whatever region you are in) to ask about valid registration as new
computer in your name, may be some place to check. But to contact Apple, Inc. by use of
the official Apple Store online page wherever you are, should be possible, to get local phone
number for Apple sales support (if online store exists, not some independent seller site.)
You said to lllaass that you've been online with the new MacBook Pro, and if you can get
into the App Store to check for and get system updates, then it should be registered.
And if it had been previously sold to someone else, and not wiped, their Apple ID would be
what's in use, if you did not have to set it up from scratch and personalize the computer. If
by odd chance this may be the case, return the computer to the reseller and ask for another.
There are other questions this situation could pose, which may require other action, if so.
    In any event...
Hopefully this matter can be worked out, one way or another!

  • Permissions trouble with new MacBook Pro

I had previously upgraded my MacBook Pro (original unibody model) to Mountain Lion with no apparent issues. I have two Users, both with Admin status and everything appeared to function as before.
I just traded in my old MacBook Pro for a new current model Retina MacBook Pro, using Migration Assistant upon first startup to move everything over from the older machine. Most everything has been seamless - except for Permissions.
I started seeing messages appear indicating I didn't have permission to open files, run apps, delete files, etc. Looking at Get Info, I found Sharing & Permissions was only set up for (if I recall correctly) Admin, Administrator and something called Wheel. I solved the permissions issue while logged in as the primary User by adding both Users to the Sharing & Permissions section of the Info screen for the entire hard drive, giving them Read & Write access, and selecting Apply to enclosed items... That seems to have solved the issue for the primary User.
But then I tried working logged in as the secondary User. I started getting messages indicating I could not save a file I had just modified because I did not have permission, and that I should contact the Administrator. Well, that's me. So I tried the same thing that I did logged in as the primary User, but there was no change. I still can't save a modified file logged in as the secondary Admin User.
I haven't found anything that addresses this - except to learn where the Wheel User originated. Can someone point me in the right direction to where I can learn how to gain full, unlimited access to my own computer - under bothe User accounts?
    Thank you.

You corrupted the permissions of every file on the volume. Restore everything from the backup you made before doing that. Then do as follows.
Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line on this page to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
