Trouble restoring my iPod touch 1G

I have a first gen iPod touch that I just found after having misplaced it for a little while.  It shows me it needs to be restored and I have to start over, which is fine, but when I try to I always get an error message.  I mostly get "unknown error (2009)" which asks me to unplug all other USB devices, restart and try again.  Sometimes I get a different one that says something about conflicting security software.  I even tried uninstalling my antivirus software at that point but still does not work.  What can I do to fix my iPod?

This article covers error 2009 and many other errors.

  • Trouble Restoring my iPod touch 2G

Hey, I tried restoring my ipod touch and it told me that it was unable to restore due to error code 1602, I googled that and it told me to reinstall itunes, I did that and now I'm getting error code 1601.
Any tips on how to successfully get it to restore?

As I understand it, DFU mode simply avoids loading the resident OS and puts the Touch in a mode that is ready to accept an OS installation. If you're successful in getting into DFU mode, it would show up in iTunes as an iPod in recovery mode and you would then restore as usual to install the OS.
This is not exactly the same as DFU mode (some people refer to it as a force-restore):
    1. Launch iTunes but do not connect the Touch.
    2. Hold down the Touch's Home and Sleep buttons at the same time. This will force the Touch screen to fade and the Apple Logo to reappear. KEEP holding the two buttons down until the Touch's screen goes black.
    3. Once the screen is black, release the Sleep button but *keep holding down the Home button* while you plug the cable into the Touch. Contunue holding the Home button until the you see the iTunes logo and the picture of the cable on the Touch screen. This may take up to 30 seconds.
    4. iTunes should now detect the Touch and you can perform a Restore.

  • Trouble restoring my iPod Touch!

Hi, I have an iPod Touch, not sure if it's 2nd or 3rd gen. It's not under warranty, my dad bought it second hand for himself then gave it to me when he bought his iPhone 4.
I started having problems the other day when the battery icon was showing the lightning bolt (like when it's charging) even when it's not plugged in. I plugged it in to iTunes and tried to restore the ipod but halfway through an error message showed up with the error code 2002. The iPod showed the screen showed here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275. Now my iPod is stuck halfway through a restore (three days later it's still only showing that screen) and iTunes does not recognise that it is plugged in.
    So far I have tried;
    -uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
-restarting my laptop (Compaq, Windows 7)
-restart ipod by holding down home & sleep buttons for 10 seconds
-i was told to do the same as above and then hold down the home button for a further 10 seconds
-go to Start> Sevices, select 'Apple Mobile Device'. Click 'Stop mobile device' then 'Start mobile device'
So far NOTHING has worked! All I've got is an ipod touch showing the connect to itunes screen and itunes not recognising my ipod is connected.
I also tried plugging it in to my partners laptop (Advent, Windows Vista) but iTunes on his laptop did not recognise it either.
Is there anything at all that I can do? Or does it need to be sent to Apple to be repaired?

Try these basic troubleshooting steps. You might try using DFU Mode or do a manual install.

See the steps below for error codes 3000-3999.
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).

Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

  • TS1702 I recently restored my ipod touch, now  I can't install alot of my apps..It tells me I need a newer version of ipod..and I had all of these apps in the first place..what do I do??

I recently started having trouble with my iPod touch after syncing with iTunes...I tried to download a app that I knew for sure is compatible with my device..it said I needed a newer version of iPod..So, I tried updating with iTunes..it said It was up to date..I was told to restore my device..so, after doing that..some of my apps I've had for years suddenly need a newer version of iPod to download...what can I do?? please help..

Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

  • How do i restore my iPod touch to Factory settings?

Been wanting to do buy a few things in  app but got that disabled and I forgets my  Restrictions  passcode. Can someone explain step by step how i can restore my iPod Touch to the way it was when i bought it? hate to do something and  make a mistake. What I should do before I starts the reset and what to do after, I already copied my pics and videos  and can re-add all my  songs again later.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

  • I restored my ipod touch however the apps will not sync.  I tried to re-download but I changed my apple id as my old id is no longer a valid email address.  Any ideas out there please

I restored my ipod touch however the apps will not sync.  I tried to re-download but I changed my apple id as my old id is no longer a valid email address.  Any ideas out there please?

It might be logical to someone, but not to me. I agree it's a pain.
How did you change your Apple ID? Creating a new one is not what you want to do, but if you changed the ID associated with your purchases then that might have worked. You would need to sign in with the Apple ID on both your iPod Touch as well as in iTunes. I'm not sure how you changed it but clearly they need to match.
If it's just your password that is not getting recognized reset it here: http://iforgot.apple.com/
It will send an email confirmation to the email address associated with that Apple ID. The email address you elect to use might not look anything like your Apple ID. If you don't appear to get an email check your spam filter.

  • I have been trying to restore my ipod touch for several weeks.  It shows on the ipod the usb to itunes screen but is not recognized by the computer.  I have tried 3 different laptops and a generic usb and nothing has worked.  Would appreciated any advice

I have been trying to restore my ipod touch for several weeks.  The ipod is on the usb-itunes screen but the computer will not recognize it.  I have tried three different laptops and am now very frustrated.  I have also tried several different usb connectors.

Try putting the iPod in DFU Mode vs. Recovery Mode.

  • I had to restore my ipod touch and now I have lost all my games.  Is there a way to get them back?

I had to restore my ipod touch when doing an update and now I have lost all my games.  Is there a way to get them back?

    Restore from backup
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • TS1702 I restored my iPod touch 1st generation and the App Store won't let me download apps I previously had.

I got an iPod touch 1st generation and downloaded loads of apps, some paid some free. A few weeks ago I restored the iPod touch and when I went to download apps that I had already owned it said I needed a newer iOS.  It says I need iOS 4.3 and I have iOS 4.2.1 and when i tried to update it says I have no software updates.

Do you have any of those apps saved on your computer, in iTunes?
It is true that your 1st generation iPad is already now running the highest version of iOS it can. It cannot be updated further.  If the developer has pulled the older versions of their apps and now only offers versions requiring iOS 5 or 6 then you will not be able to run those apps any longer (unless you kept backup copies of the older versions in iTunes on your computer).
Developers determine what version(s) of their apps are in the App Store. As many have updated their apps to take advantage of the enhancements in iOS 6 , they've pulled their older versions and no longer support them.
