Trouble synching iPad before upgrade to iOS 5

Trying to upgrade iPad but am getting message that need to dowload apps or I could lose them but I am also being told that the iPad is also synched to another computer (there are only two choices and both give me the same message) and to synch I will also lose data. What to do?

I have the same issue.My computer got a new motherboard. Now my ipad has music on it not on my computer and vice versa. I dont want to lose the music i have oneither, but keep all from both..How do I blend the two and still be able to sync my ipad on my computer? My ipad says its synched to a different computer and its not.

Just what I said, my iPad 2 upgraded to IOS 5.0.1 from IOS 5 on last week, the built in microphone is not working anymore, I can't record the video with sound, and called my friends with Facetime, they can't heard my voice. I've read other posts about this, and while it seems an odd coincidence, you likely have a faulty microphone. On the right hand side you'll see similar posts. The majority of people who all of the sudden had mic's that wouldn't work after updating, wound up getting their iPads replaced at the Genius Bar at their local Apple Store. You could try rebotting, by pressing and holding BOTH the home and power buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go fo both buttons and your iPad will restart. If that doesn't work, I would not recommend restoring. Instead, make an appointment at the Apple Store and if found defective it will be replaced. Do remember to create a backup before going. It will make setting up a new device exactly as you had it, much much simpler.

Only possible if you have made an iTune or iCloud backup before the update.

Try to connect your iphone in computer, in itune restore the iphone as a new one. (it worked for me)
Or delete your contacts app from iphone and sync again.

Both the iPad and when synced to the iMac, say i am fully up to date at 5.1.1! Has anyone had / got the same issue? How can I upgrade when it doesn't acknowledge there is no need?

You don't have to turn on iCloud to use the calendar app. Only if you wish to sync to iCloud. However, if it was previously being used, and was turned off, that would cause you to lose those entries on the device. Turning it back on should recover them if they have no been deleted for some reason.
You might also check to make sure all of your calendars are being displayed in the app (Calendar app > Calendars. Check any unchecked calendars to display the content.

iPad 2, Since upgrading to iOS 8.0.2 the cellular signal indicates I do not have a SIM card. Monday spent hours on the phone with Apple support, backed up my iPad, reset all settings, reloaded my iPad and it still tells me I don't have a SIM card. Tuesday went to AT&T and got a new SIM card on the advice of apple support. It worked perfect until this morning and the NO SIM CARD notice reappeared. Never ever had any problem until the upgrade. I find it inexcusable that Apple refuses to address the issues they caused, iOS 8.0.2 is the Ebola of iPad 2 world. I dont have any cellular service after wasting two days trying to address and fix a problem Apple is responsible for. It's obvious Steve Jobs is no longer running the company. Furious & fustrated. IPad 2 upgrade to iOS 8.0.2 made some of the homescreen icons change to geometric patterns.

After upgrading iPad2 to iOS 8 some (not all) of the home screen application icons changed to a geometric black and white pattern. The application would still open when the icon was tappedWhen upgrading to iOS 8.0.2 they briefly changed to normal, but are now back to being black and white. The Apple iOS 8 applications were not affected and are all as they were before upgrading to iOS 8. This bug has me bugged.

Thanks damien258, your solution worked and my home screen icons are now showing up fine, but they are now somewhat out of order as I had more than 100 of them on five screens. Crazy huh?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

I did not say it was 3 years old, I said it was ALMOST 3 years old. 2 years seven months is closer to 3 years that your estimated "less than 2"
More to the point, less than 3 years support for a $700 tablet is criminal & steeling from the public. We should complain & loudly. We the consumers have made Apple what it is.
When the tech industry moves as fast as it does, 3 years is quite long. Show me any device that receives updates past 3 years any device I dare you. And no a PC is not a valid comparison, because it does not recieve updates. the OS does. And a 3 year old PC that could barely run Windows XP for example is not going to be able to Run Windows 8.
The iPad 1 no longer has the hardware necessarry to support the new iOS. But again that does not mean it automatically stops functioning. Or cannot be taken in for a check if there is something wrong with it. If you still have Apple Care on it, it is totally covered. Just because it did not get a recent update does not mean its junk now.
Many people still run an iPad with iOS 3.2 just fine. that's 2 updates they could not care less about. Why suddenly eveyrbody moaning because the latest one can't be applied? Running iOs 5.1.1 should give it at least another year of functional life where it can still download appliations and work perfectly fine.
Again the iPad does not cease functioning because the update can't be applied. It still works just as it did before.
I will never buy another iPad, period.
Good for you, you'll never buy another mobile device ever either, if you keep expecting support for long periods of time. If everybody ss rotten as you say, what exactly are you expecting to buy then? Do you think Apple is going to miss your business. there are literally millions of people happy with their purchases with Apple and with other Manufacturers
And just for the record, I neither work for Apple nor think that everything they do is great. Just like I can point the flaws in Android or Microsoft so can I point them out in Apple. And they do have many falws.

This is ridiculous. Still having trouble with activating my phone after upgrading to iOS 7.0. How does Apple expect us to make / receive phone calls???

It may take a while becuse millions of people are doing it at the same time. Patience young grasshopper. Try restarting the phone and then try activating again. It took mine a good long time before the activation completed successfully

Why can I transfer my movies to my ipad after upgrading to iOS 7.

Hi have an ipad 2 which has always worked great, until I upgraded to iOS 7 and now I can't transfer my movies to the ipad from iTunes.
I have restored my ipad to factory settings and have tried copying movies and still no joy. To make the matter even more annoying I have tried to contact apple support and I need to pay a £25 charge as I am out of warranty for a problem that apple have caused.
Any ideas how to rectify this?

That's a very helpful description of the problem and now. I wish I could be as helpful in return. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about syncing home movies or personal videos. I have synced several of my own, but it always went without issue.
Some basic things that I can think of are ....
Where are the movies residing in iTunes on your computer? If they have been imported into the movies library then they should appear in the Videos app when you sync. If they were imported into the photos folder, they could be in the photos app, but I assume that you checked that already.
You did say this was a new problem so can I assume that the movies were appearing in the videos app?
I have read where some users reclassified videos in order to get them to sync. After using the Get Info command in iTunes, they would classify a video as a TV show for example in order to get to sync. Forgive my ignorance on this, but like I said, I have very limited experience with this and I am trying to recall exactly what the process was.
If nothing else, my comments will bump your post up again and hopefully somebody that knows what they are talking about will chime in.

Hi there, thanks to discussion replies I have made some iCloud progress. The iTunes library now appears on both iPhone and iPad, only some of them has an iCloud icon next to it.
Those without the icon is not playing.
These are legit tunes originally downloaded from CD's I still own.
my laptop went through 3 steps, gathering information, matching songs and upgrading artwork and remaining songs.
Why are some songs in iCloud and the majority not?
Is there any other way to import those directly from the laptop itunes to iPad?
