Hi,
Sounds like, somehow, you've got a feedback loop. All i can suggest is deleting Skype.
Sorry, that's all i've got!

  • Trouble with internal microphone and display

    Hello together,
I just installed Arch on my Laptop yesterday. Everything works fine now, except for two things:
    1) The internal microphone does not work at all. I already checked all settings in alsamixer/amixer and I also tried this, but it won't help.
    2) After a reboot, the display brightness is always reduced. When I press the button to raise it again, nothning happens. When I press the button to lower it instead, it raises to the full brightness. This is a little strange and annoying, but not too important.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix that?
I would be grateful for any help.
    cthl
    EDIT:
I got the microphone working now, I was just a bit confused about the alsamixer/amixer settings.

WonderWoofy wrote:Is that feedback?  Are you sure it is not just the hum of your machine?  I think of feedback as the screech you get when your mic actually starts picking up the output of the speakers.
Perhaps you're right - if so, I certainly didn't get as much background noise before. Any idea how to improve the situation?

  • High pitched sound - something to do with internal microphone ??

Suddenly my Powerbook has started emitting a high pitched sound through its speakers. You know one of those high frequency ear-blowing sounds when a PA system is being set up and the mic is getting tested and the amp's turned up too loud?
I'm not sure exactly what I was doing when it started, but I think I was making or receiving a telephony call via iChat. During or just after the connection process (which didn't work for some reason but that could've been a problem at the other end), this high pitched squeal started. I can get rid of it by turning down the output volume - the squeal disappears but that of course turns all other output sound down as well. The sound disappears when the volume is turned down about half way.
But...even if the sound is turned down half way, if I put my hand over the left speaker, the sound comes back. No sound comes back if I place hand over right speaker. I assume then that the inbuilt microphone is under the left speaker area, and this has something to do with the inbuilt mic.
The only other thing that's happened in recent times is that I used this Powerbook's audio line-in port to record some sound from an audio casette recently. I used Audio Recorder 2.0 for this. I can't imagine this has been the cause, but thought I'd better mention it. If I go into the Sound Preference panel, I can stop the squeal by changing the sound input device from internal microphone to Line In.
Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening and how iit can be fixed?
    Many thanks, Steven

Hey, great suggestion Burn. It prompted me to look at iChat preferences, since that was the only application that I've had open which might engage the internal microphone.
Within iChat Preferences, I clicked on the 'Video' icon, and for the 'Microphone' setting I saw that 'None selected' (or something like that - that option has gone now?) was in place. So I changed the setting to Internal Microphone. The whistle or screech was still there. Then I changed the setting to 'Line In'. No more screech!!
A good result, but is this the way it's supposed to be? Does having the setting as 'Line In' mean that I have to plug headphones in whenever I want to use iChat for internet telephony? Unless I manually change to Internal Microphone, but then I suffer screeching again?
    Cheers, Steven

  • Closed Lid use with Internal Microphone

Is it possible to configure the internal microphone so that I can use it when I'm running my MacBook Pro with the lid closed? I close the lid and attach the MacBook to a large external monitor and still want to use Skype.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The internal microphone (and speakers) are still active when in clamshell mode but in my experience it picks up a lot of 'noise' and vibration from the MBP itself and isn't very effective for speech. I use an external microphone (MicFlex) or the one in my external camera (Logitech) and they work well for video conferencing.

  • Trouble with internal keyboard and touchpad

    Hi,
Yesterday I just out of nowhere started having some trouble with my keyboard and touchpad on my MacBook Air.
The problem displayed itself on various ways. One thing was that I couldn't press regulary with the touchpad. When I was pressing one time, it acted like a pressed with two fingers. When I tried to type in my password on the administrator page, some of the keys didn't work at all and some started to act weird. For example when I was pressing the letter B, the "bar" which displayes where you are in the text (don't know the word in English) went backwards, and when I pressed the letter F it went forward. This seemes so weird and also gives me a hope that it might be some setting failure though B stands for backwards and F stands for forward.
I could log in to the guestpage where I tried to write in "notes". In notes, no letters at all was working, only numbers. When I tried to shut the computer down from the apple symbol I was asked to write administrator name and password. When I tried to mark the name to write it, there wasn't a "bar" but a cross, but on the other hand did it work to write in the password field. But of course not B and F..
Usualy I'd just press the on/off botton until the computer lockdown, unfortunately the botton doesn't work. So the only thing I could do was to let the battery die and hope that it would start when I recharged it and pressed start, this didn't go as well as I hoped, so now I'm stuck with a dead macbook air.
Any ideas of what could be the problem or/and any solutions what might do the trick?
    Extremly greatful for any answers

Yes you need to use a wired keyboard.

  • Having trouble with condenser microphone and Logic Pro. please help

I purchased a condenser microphone that runs only with phantom power. I have an XLR cable from the mic into the phantom power interface and have an XLR to USB plugged into my computer, when i go to logic audio preferences it doesnt show that the microphone is even connected (ive checked input and output). Ive even tried it on other programs and i still get nothing. Please Help.

I have an XLR cable from the mic into the phantom power interface
What phantom interface is this, make and model.
XLR to USB plugged into my computer
What is this? Just a cable?
    What microphone is it?
Trying to get an idea of your signal chain as, in your original post, your signal chain makes little sense. Do you have an audio interface or is that the phantom power interface you are referring to? A microphone isn't an interface and a mic, in itself, won't show up in Logic prefs (unless it was a USB mic, which it is not).

  • Trouble with internal modem

Internal modem will not connect. I get a dialog message that states "pick up the phone and dial the number and when answered click OK and hang up phone." However, this does not connect me.
I purchased an exterior modem from Apple and it worked perfectly ONE TIME. On the second try the computer crashed --completely, could not force quit. Took computer to genius bar at Apple store, where a few things were tweaked. Went home and the external modem now gives me a message that it can not find a dial tone. Any suggestions?

as a guess, you could try booting the PowerBook from external hard drive with compatible OS on it to see if it's a software problem.
the fact that the PowerBook got frozen solid could mean a hardware issue, maybe USB port is flaky

  • SLS as Router: Trouble with internal hosts connecting to external IP.

I was hijacking [http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12200257] long enough, so I'm moving this to my own question.
Setup: SLS 10.6.4 on Mac Mini(2010).
GigE en2 is connected to an internal network (hereafter 'lan')
USB Ethernet en0 (MacBookAir adapter) is connected to the external network (hereafter 'WAN').
Server has Two IP addresses, 'lan.lan.lan.2' and 'WAN.WAN.WAN.WAN'. Default route for server is 'WAN.WAN.WAN.GW'.
Server is serving NAT, DHCP, Firewall
Internal clients (such as 'lan.lan.lan.lan') trying to connect to 'WAN.WAN.WAN.WAN' (any port, any service) take about 13 SECONDS before they receive a reply.
External clients connecting to the WAN IP get served right away. ("The cobbler's children go barefoot").
Internal clients connecting to the internal IP (lan.lan.lan.2) are connected right away, also.
If I run 'route monitor' on the server during the 13 second connection, I see this:
    bash-3.2# route monitor -n
got message of size 124 on Wed Sep 1 21:21:16 2010
    RTM_LOSING: Kernel Suspects Partitioning: len 124, pid: 0, seq 0, errno 0, ifscope 0, flags:<UP,GATEWAY,HOST,DONE,WASCLONED,IFSCOPE>

    sockaddrs: <DST,GATEWAY>
    lan.lan.lan.lan WAN.WAN.WAN.GW
Yes, it would be a losing route to try to reply out the WAN.WAN.WAN.GW for the internal address!
Furthermore, "traceroute -s WAN.WAN.WAN.WAN lan.lan.lan.lan" shows a route going OUT which of course fails.
Traceroutes of the LAN and WAN port on the server, show indeed that for the first several seconds, (until the RTM_LOSING message appears) the server tries to reply out the WAN port.
I've tried all sorts of static routes… to no avail
One odd thing: Why is the RTM_LOSING route IFSCOPEd to the external interface?
    Any help is appreciated.
Yes, I'm definitely considering using a hardware router instead. But I'm really trying to avoid that- trying to save on space, power, heat here. The Mac is really a great box… If I can only get this fixed.
Thanks in advance to anyone who looks at this.

Everything has been stable for over 3 hours. I did the scopedroute change with the conf file and rebooted because other people in other discussions have had limited success modifying the setting while the server was running (without *clearing the caches, aka applejack*, and rebooting).
Aha! There's probably a simple command line way to do this while running… somewhere… But, I'm willing to try it. I've already made the Mac our site's perimeter router, and I'm not quite ready to switch to a separate hardware router as the shiny new Mini ought to work.
But, some sort of cache being out of date, is a plausible reason for it "only working for a little while".
On the plus side, I'm getting a great TCP/IP re-education in the meanwhile.

  • PVC2300 - trouble with internal mic.

I have two PVC2300 cameras. So after a time in working conditions built-in microphones (of both cameras) begin to produce a noise, quite loud and disturbing. However, it happens both while operating on network adapter and PoE adapter. Cameras’ firmware has been updated to 1.1.2.6. But still there is aforesaid noise while filming with СISCO software as well as third-party one.
I get vide and audio from camera's over rtsp (rtsp://localip/img/media.sav)

H there, could sombody please explain to me in layman's terms how to fix my microphone. There is absolutely no sound comming through it, and I've updated drivers etc, I feel like I have tried evertyhing.
    I have windows 8 system.

Right-click the volume icon in your system tray and open 'Recording Devices'.
Make sure your microphone is set as the default device.
Also, right-click your microphone, and open 'Properties'. Make sure the microphone volume settings are correct. Microphone Boost can be left at 0.0 dB, it might add distortion at greater values than 0.0 dB.

  • Troubles with international sims

Purchased phone (3GS) unlocked, outright so no contract from Apple store in Australia.
Living in Denmark now and phone won't accept Danish sims. Guys in phone shop say phone is actually locked and he doesn't understand how it could be if it was supposed to be off contract. Software updates have been done regularly.  They think that it shouldn't come up "connect to iTunes" when the Danish sim is installed.
    Any hints would be welcome.

Have you made any progress with this? I have had what sounds like a similar issue when upgrading from 3.1.1sp2 to 3.2.2.
    Keep us posted :-)

  • Trouble with international formats. Converting and storing in database.

    Back again!
This time, I've got my app working as it should. I extract strings of information from a file, and store them appropriately in a database. Some of the data I cast to double as they are money values. The problem is this:
I'm storing the data in an access database. I need one of the values to be in European format. That is, using commas for decimal points and vice versa. Eg: $3.20, would become E3,20. (Don't know the shortcut for the Euro symbol).
I can't change swap commas to demimals points and THEN cast to double, because double wants american standard numbers. So how do I, or is there another way, to store the value in the database as:
E3,20 and not E3.20...??? I've changed the type in the access database column to Euro, so I get the Euro symbol...but if I put in a decimal, it stays a decimal.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks again.

OK! And I'm lost again!!!! :-( Sorry, my bad!
Now, I've formatted the values perfectly in Java. But
unless I keep the type of column in Access as text,
they don't transfer over properly. If I keep them as
number, then only the numbers come over etc...If you have the numbers in Access as number and you can format numbers in Java then what is your problem? Without showing your code I (an most other non-mindreaders) don't have a chance. How are you getting the values form the Access database?
    >
Also, do you know the custom format i need to use, so
that, even if I keep the column as text, Thjis does not make sense? I showed you two examples. What do you want in the way for format that they don't give.
    it will
stick a sign in front of it??? I don't understand! Show your code.
    I figure, I'll just
stick to the text field, So you want to bodge it and leave the problem to someone else to deal with later on!
but somehow I need to stick
a sign in front of it for display purposes.I have shown you how to format the numbers! I have suggested that the Euro symbol Unicode can be found using Google (it took me less than 30 seconds). What more can I do other than write the whole of your code for you?

    Hi Peter
Yes - it was from a proper Apple Store.
I only purchased the unit - no special requests and then went to O2 and hooked up with a scolling monthly sim.
I used that sim for about 6 months and then moved out here.  I took on two PAYG sims, one for Qatar and one for UAE but neither are accepted.
When connect to my mbp, the phone screen shows the iphone connect cable and iTunes picks it up. The message then says " must insert original sim to register"  My point - the original sim, was completely independant from the phone but I cant get past this point to do anything further.
    Any thoughts?
