Trouble with PDF created with Captivate 6

I have been using Captivate since version 4 and this is the first time I have had this problem. The generated PDF (which is the expected file size) displays a blank page with only the TOC button which sits there flashing rapidly. I have tried changing the targeted Flash Player version without any luck.  Previews and HTML output is fine and so is the .exe file. I am using Adobe Acrobat 11 on a 64-bit Windows system. This is a fairly small project with about 15 slides and some FLV videos. I have no problems with Distiller with any of my other programs (FrameMaker, LiveCycle, Photoshop etc.). Any settings I can fiddle around with?
Any ideas?
Nadeem

Thanks for the helpful reference!
To anyone else having a similar problem: the solution (while not ideal, since it requires disabling a desired feature) is to uncheck the "Show TOC" box in the TOC settings. To reiterate what was discussed in the forum, the problem apppears to be localised to Acrobat Pro/Reader XI. So far there is no resolution from Adobe.

  • Can't view PDFs created in Captivate 8

    Hi,
    We use PDFs for SME review. However, when trying to open the PDFs  via Adobe Reader X1 (11.0.10) , get the message "To view the Flash technology content in this PDF file, plese install the requied version of Flash Player'.  Any ideas?
    Many thanks.

    Sooo, the question is, have you tried upgrading the Flash player on those systems? If not, that's the next logical step.
    If you have, you likely need to report to Adobe as a bug. Sometimes the Flash player is "too new" and you actually have to DOWNGRADE to make things work. I've seen that with Captivate, but not sure I've ever heard of it with a PDF trying to play a Captivate SWF.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Trouble with captivate trial download for mac

    im trying to download the trial version of captivate on my mac, the akamai netsession interface is now on my desktop, i go through installation, it makes that happy sound and says the installation was successful, but nothing actually happens, no new folders or documents, or applications, seems like sort of a dead end.
    To investigate i clickedon Akamai in "other" of my system preferences is tells me the status is "forbidden" but I am the administrator and i have never used this free trial before, so why am I "forbidden?"
    Here's part of the diagnostic if that helps:
    This file was created on 2013-04-09 7:54:12 PM when a user initiated the "Generate Report" action in the Akamai NetSession Interface Control Panel or System Preferences. This is a report on the results of diagnostics tests concerning proper installation, connectivity, download and streaming capability.

  • Trouble with Captivate 4 and Windows 7

    My office just migrated to Windows 7 (64 bit) and when I try to run Captivate 4 I get the attached error message and Captivate does not capture.  I logged in as administrator and I still cannot run the program successfully.  Any suggestions?

    Welcome to our community
    Unfortunately Captivate 4 wasn't created with Windows 7 in mind. Some folks here claim to be able to use it quite successfully. I fall into the camp where it refused to work.
    Sounds like you may be in this category too. Bummer that.
    The only way I can coax Captivate 4 to work on my own Windows 7 (Ultimate-64 Bit version) was to install the Windows XP Mode Virtual Machine and install it there. But that also means I cannot capture outside of the VM. In order to capture anything in Windows 7, I had to acquire and install Captivate 5.

  • Mouse trouble with Captivate

    I would appreciate anyone's help with my question, and would
    like to know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. I
    just finished a captivate project, and when I preview it, the mouse
    does not appear. I have created about a dozen presentations thus
    far, so I have a solid understanding of the in's and out's of
    captivate. Under the standard slide layout, the mouse movement is
    shown and all the mouse properties are correct, yet it still will
    not appear once the project is previewed or published. Hopefully
    this has happened to someone else, and there exists an easy fix.
    Please let me know if you can help!

    It appears Rick is not available right now so I'll see if I
    can help. Can you tell us about the project? For instance, is it
    possible you have placed images on your slides - instead of
    background captures - that might be "covering" the mouse? If this
    is the case, you can probably fix it by moving the mouse "above"
    the images on the timeline.
    I am certain this is a simple fix (aren't they all?) but if
    that suggestion is "no joy", we might want to investigate the
    possibility of sending (me) a few (5-10) slides of the project (the
    CP file) so I can look it over in person.

  • I'm having trouble with Captivate CS4 the audio won't record (using Vista)

    Hello,
    Please help!!!...I've tried the patches outlined in prior question/answers regarding audio recording problems by replacing the nsaudio.dll files as suggested at http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/03/audio_play_back_and_usb_mic_is.html
    and used the SubInAcl Windows Registry Tool outlined at http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/03/adobe_captivate_4_installation.html
    The issue seems to be resolved at first but inexplicably the audio recording stop working again.
    I also noticed that I'm getting error messages regarding the following Captivate files.  NSAudio.dll , Ppsuplo.dll, avi2swf.dll, FullMotionrecorder.dll and WaveEditCtrl.ocx files
    What can I do to resolve the recording problems that seem to plague Captivate CS4.   Does Adobe offer any updates to their software to resolve well documented bugs.
    Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi there
    Have you reported these to Adobe support?

    The answer here is they certainly do. But updates are sometimes few and far between. And the likelihood of seein an update to address issues such as these is totally dependent on the number of reports Adobe receives about them.
    If you haven't, please consider submitting a Bug Report. That will only help increase any chance of seeing an update to fix things.

  • I am currently having trouble with an attached PDF fill-able form created in Acrobat being non savable in Reader

    Hello, I was wondering if you would be able to help me out?
    I am having trouble with my attached PDF fill-able form, I am creating a form that has a limit of one page so in order for more room in a certain field I have added a Hyperlink to an additional fill-able(secondary) form within the Parent document (primary fill-able form. The secondary form is inserted as an attachment into the Primary form. My problem is when I open this document up in Adobe Reader, the Primary fill-able form is savable but the attached Secondary form for which the hyperlink leads to is non-savable and is a must print only. Is there a way to make the Secondary form savable as well within the same document? or is there another way I could execute what it is I am trying to achieve?
    Trying to save other as extended reader has not worked, also if I save the attachment file as an extended reader first I am unable to attach a return hyperlink back to the Parent document,
    Help would be greatly appreciated please and thank you!

    I can't say for certain without looking at the actual PDF but it does appear that they created one large text box over multiple lines. For a fillable form it may have been smarter to remove the lines and create a box with smaller text that supports multiple lines.
    At any rate, nothing you can do about it with the free Reader (and depending on the security, maybe nothing with Acrobat either.)

  • Adobe reader XI no longer plays video or audio embedded in PDF created with Adobe Acrobat X Pro.

    Help please!
    Embedded video and audio content in PDFs created using Adobe Acrobat X Pro does NOT play on some school computers after Acrobat Reader XI is installed. The media content played fine with Acrobat X. This is seen with both XP and Windows 7 machines.
    Bizarrely, other machines with Windows 7 and XP play the video and audio content fine when Acrobat XI is installed.
    Please help, as the PDFs are the delivery mechanism for a very effective literacy programme for children, and this bug has halted delivery for a considerable number of schools and thousands of children are in trouble!

    Hi Raman,
    I think we have found the source of the problem. It relates to how different browsers are detected by Adobe when updating Flash Player.
    To make the videos play within PDFs either from DVD or on the hard drive, it is now essential that Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin (now version 11.5.502.113) is installed. (Adobe Reader 10 had its own internal flash player, so an external player was not needed)
    We have discovered that, when Google Chrome is the browser, automatic updates of Flash do NOT download this programme. Flash 11 ActiveX is the only programme that is downloaded, and the videos do NOT play from DVD or harddrive.
    Also, it is not possible to manually download Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin as this option is not presented to the user. Presumably Adobe have set it up this way, because the Adobe site recognises Chrome is being used, and assumes that the computer does not need the plugin flash player, as Chrome has its own internal flash player. However, other programmes may need it!
    We went to FileHippo to download the non-IE version (even though we were using Chrome!) at
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_firefox/
    Then the videos played from DVD or harddrive.
    I have not been able to test how this works with other browsers. I hope that Adobe can sort this problem out asap!
    regards

  • DW MX trouble with loading PDF files

    I'm using Dreamweaver MX on an XP Pro machine and have
    trouble loading pdf documents to my web pages. It cooperates
    intermittently. I'm using a virtual pdf printer to convert word
    documents to pdf, then saving them to my website folder, selecting
    the linking text on my page in DW, using the link box to select my
    pdf document, then saving the page and putting files in both the

    This method has worked for me before, and now it's not. Does
    anyone know of a reason for this? The documents are saved
    correctly, as I can get them to open as pdf outside of dreamweaver
    and my webpage...when I click on the link I created online I get
    "page not found."
    Thanks for any help!

    I am having the same trouble with Dreamweaver MX 2004 on
    Mac-OSX since I switched from MacOs9. I still have no solution .
    When I want to export a .pdf file I get a message saying <ftp
    error>.
    I never had problems on Mac Os 9 and it started when using
    the first version of Mac Os X. I am presently using mac Os 10.4.10
    and I am still unable to transfer .pdf files, no matter whether I
    use acrobat or the Mac system to produce the.pdf file.
    When I try the page on my computer the link to the.pdf file
    functions allright, but not on the server as the file cannot be
    transfered to it by the software.
    Does someone know how to solve this ?

  • Trouble with Exported .pdf Files

    I created three 20"x30" one-page documents (with iPhoto-sourced images) which saved as 24.7 MB, 19.4 MB, and 10.7 MB files, respectively. I needed to send JPEG files to my service provider for high-resolution prints. Since Pages '08 doesn't have a JPEG-export option, I exported each of them as .pdf files. My plan was to open the .pdf files in Photoshop and save them down as .jpg files. The same path had worked fine with a fourth Pages '08 layout of a 2.25"x3.75" document. With the three 20"x30" files, however, I ran into trouble.
    My laptop didn't have enough memory to open the exported .pdf files in Photoshop Elements without suffering some image gray-out. I didn't think that was a problem until we discovered that my service provider couldn't open the files at all (running the current Photoshop on a souped-up system). Arghhh.
    I switched to a service provider who can print straight from the .pdf files, but that also brought trouble. Though I could open the files easily in Acrobat 5.0, and they looked great, the service provider (running the current full version of Acrobat) could not open them; all he got was what looked like a blank page.
    I don't think the trouble is related to file size, as the business-card document which sailed through without trouble saved as an 11.2 MB Pages file.
    Could it be sheet size? That's the only thing I can figure. And why would the files open in Acrobat 5.0 without trouble, but not in the current Acrobat (or Acrobat Professional, which we also tried)?
    I ended up "printing" the Pages files as "Save PDF to iPhoto," then exporting the iPhoto image as a maximum-resolution JPEG. The only trouble with that route was that the best I could get was a 200 dpi. When I went through Photoshop (instead of iPhoto) with the business card file, I ended up with a 300 dpi file.
    Am I missing something obvious here? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    I don't know if this is the correct answer, but you can open a PDF in Preview and save the document as a JPEG and JPEG-2000. I know that Leopard will also have some neat functionality about this as well. You might also want to look at printing as a postscript file rather than a PDF and then open in Photoshop. I talked with a FEDEX/Kinkos employee yesterday about my book at he stated that Macs use 1.5 while Adobe's Acrobat is 1.7. Leopard should also fix this, but it may not help right now.

    Here is the code, thought I had put it in the first time, guess not heh. Anyway, I converted the arrayList(accountList) to a String so that I could see the that element I am trying to index is in there, which it is. I also checked the file that i'm populating the arrayList from and it also has the element in it.
    public static void getAccountNumbers() {
              accountList = LoadStoreAccounts.readCollectionObject();
              accountInfo = accountList.toString();
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, accountInfo);
              acctNumIndex = accountList.indexOf(accountNumber);
              acctIndex = String.valueOf(acctNumIndex);
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Index of accountNumber    is: " + acctIndex);

  • Trouble with PDF fonts - fields only

    We're having trouble with our PDFs once the data is merged into the PDF template. All of the merged data appears cut in half in the form fields so only the top half of the letters are shown; the rest of the document is fine. We think this could be due to a font issue, but loading different fonts haven't seemed to make any difference. Could this be caused by anything besides the fonts?
    Thanks!

    Pdf is designed for presenting information graphically to reduce the file size. This reduction is achieved by making it an uneditable - something that comes in handy if you don't want people to alter your content.
    You can (using a pdf writter) create pdf forms where information can be added in to a text field or box. However if you want to edit the content from a pdf file then you could select the text and copy and paste it in to a document like Pages or Word and then re-export when you're finished.
    But I'm affraid you can't edit pdf as such - this is the case on Macs and PCs. If you need to edit documents on different platforms then you'll need to find a common editor. There's Office for Mac (student teacher versions) or you could try OpenOffice Org - it's free, works on both Macs and PCs, and will convert most Word documents provided there's not too many tables or a complex layout format.
    Hope this helps

  • SVG in pdf created with FOP

    Hello,
    is it possible to include SVG`s to a pdf report, which is created with FOP?
    I read something like Batik....
    Does anybody have any experiences about that?
    Thanks,

    Thank you, CtDave, for your speedy reply and for the 'Acrobat Technical Evangelist' knowledge base article. Word 2000 is one of Microsoft's masterpieces - by disabling 'autosave', the application is totally stable, does not require 'activation' by Microsoft. Acrobat 9 enables 'saving' of interactive .pdf forms, a most valuable feature and one much appreciated by anyone completiing such forms. There must be more to this issue than 'incompatibility', because I can create a test Word 2000 document, hyperlink a valid URL, convert to .pdf with Acrobat 9, and the hyperlink works fine in Acrobat 9. When I attempt to do this using a much more complex Word 2000 document, embedded with scores of hyperlinks, these links fail to work following conversion to .pdf with Acrobat 9, but work fine following conversion to .pdf with  Acrobat 6. I can then use Acrobat 9 to open the .pdf created with Acrobat 6, and successfully edit any of these fully functional hyperlinks using the 'Link tool'. I don't know who prepared the 'Acrobat Technical Evangelist' article (AF1908DCd01) - no credits were cited, and I'm far from certain that this authentically belongs to Adobe's knowledge base. So I appreciate your sharing this information with me, but I cannot say that my question has been definitively answered. If you have any further information or tips, please reply in this thread. /rmbrown

  • Word 2000 hyperlinks don't work in .pdf created with Acrobat 9 Pro

    I'm new to Adobe Forums, so please overlook the effrontery of my posting a query previously discussed. Perhaps someone can simply reply with a link to the prior discussion. I have installed Acrobat 9.2 Pro in 2 computers, one running XP64 Pro, the other XP32 Pro. Word 2000 is installed in both. All Word hyperlinks work fine, but after .pdf conversion using Acrobat 9.2 Pro, none of these work. In 'Preferences', I have navigated Convert to PDF > Microsoft Office Office Word > Edit Settings > Add Links to Adobe PDF File and confirmed that the Add Links feature is enabled. Having ascertained that this glitch is not specific to either XP64 or XP32 operating systems, I uninstalled Acrobat 9.2 Pro from the XP32 computer and reinstalled Acrobat 6.1 Pro. Then using the same Word 2000 document, I converted to .pdf using Acrobat 6.1 Pro, with no problems whatsoever. This looks like a serious bug in Acrobat 9 Pro, which the telephone support folks have acknowledged. Alas, they won't give me the tiniest clue how to resolve it, nor any workaround, but merely refer me to AdobeForums.com for help. I suspect a corrective patch or 'upgrade' will be forthcoming, but meanwhile, if anyone knows of a workaround, please enlighten me. Thanks. /rmbrown

/rmbrown
