Trouble with some documents: no custom icon, only generic appears

I tried anything: rebuilt launch servcice, permission repair, daily, weekly, monthly scripts (using maintanace, onyx, etc...) BUT all the documents associated with Openoffice have no custom icon. I also tried reinstalling oo with no success. It happens with textedit and keynote (using "get info", open with, apply to all) and don't know why?
Can anybody help me?

You could create a new admin user and move the data within each of these folders to the corresponding folder on the new account: Desktop, Documents. Library, Movies, Music, etc. You can di it most easily IMO, by copying your Home folder to DVD first. Alternatively, you could use Users/Shared for the data.
But it would really be best to sort this issue in your present user.
It would be a good idea to test with a new user though to see if the problem exists there.
Create a new account, name it "test" and see how your OO & TE work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
Let us know and we'll troubleshoot this further.

Having trouble with my iMac- on startup, the background screen appears, but no icons. The spinning beach ball appears for quite a long while, then when the icons finally come up, when I open a finder window, the only icons to appear are the Network and Macintosh HD icons. I've tried to repair disk permissions: this came up with heaps of errors, which it then fixed, but the original problem remains.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Same problem(s) in safe mode?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Hi Shootist. I would be interested in hearing some reasoning on this. I almost always use a USB cable to connect my camera to the MBP for transferring pictures, and have moved about 30,000 this way over the last 6 years since my photography went digital. Recently, on the rare occassions when I have only a few to transfer and I was too lazy to go for the cable, I have used the card reader; about half those times I have difficulty getting the MBP to recognise the card. I find I have to press the card very hard into the slot for it to be recognised.
My rationale is quite possibly wrong, but I feel that the USB connectors are more robust and hard-wearing than the flimsy connectors on an SD card. Also, I haven't measured it, but I think the data transfer is faster with the cable. (I just came across this test, which reports noticeably faster transfer for cable than built-in card reader, but the computer was a PC)

Trouble with SAPBobsCOM.Documents

Hello everyone. I am having strange trouble with SAPBobsCOM.Documents that I cannot seem to resolve. I have used this code before and now it is not working and I don't know why. When I instantiate an object as follows:
Dim oAPCredit As SAPbobsCOM.Documents
Set oAPCredit = vCompany.GetBusinessObject(SAPbobsCOM.BoObjectTypes.oPurchaseCreditNotes)
If I look at the oAPCredit object, every row says: Application-defined or Object-defined error
Then when I try to set the values, the add on completely bombs out. What is even more strange is that it only fails on me for PurchaseCreditNotes in this company but if I point to another company on another server, it won't work for oDeliveryNotes or oInvoices either, but those do work in my current environment. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I am working in 2005A PL 16 and the DI API is 6.80.318.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please let me know the exact workflow you are following when you get this error.
Are you trying to convert from within Reader or from Browser? BROWSER
If from Reader then make sure you are signed in within Reader, Also try updating Reader to the latest v11.0.09 and check.
If from browser, please let me know which browser you are using and its version? GOOGEL CHRONE and MOZILA
Have you checked with a different browser if possible?yes

Outlook Public Folders- Some Documents Persistently Open Read-Only

We have been having this issue for a few months.
Previously, users could navigate to Public Folders and open Excel or Word documents, make changes, save and close without issue.
When this problem first started, users were getting files open as Read Only. We were unsure why this was happening and could not find a fix, so we put out an instructional document on how to: disable Protected view in Excel or Word, turn off attachment previewing
in Outlook and disable the preview pane. If users performed these steps, they could then operate without an issue.
Now it is occurring again, even with the above fixes in place. We tried setting up a Group Policy to make these settings and it didn't help.
My sysadmin had me block the following updates in WSUS: 2687567, 2965295 and 2956128. We thought this may be the cause but to no avail. On my work desktop and laptop it occurs with these updates not installed.
We can access the documents OK, without Read Only status using Outlook Web Access. We are using a mix of Windows 7 Professional and Enterprise. We are using Exchange 2008, Office 2010.

Based on my knowledge, since Outlook 2010, it seems to be by design.
The easiest way to open and modify the attachment in the message, is to "Edit" the message, then open the attachment, make changes in the attachment and save the attachment, then Save the Message.
You mentioned "Previously", was that a previous version of Outlook?

Adobe Reader XI- Trouble with signing documents

I can't sign documents with Adobe Reader XI. I have registered for Echosign (unwillingly) and also created an identity. The signature field is grayed out. I have tried several different documents. Some documents un-gray the signature option, but it does nothing when I click it. Please advise.

I had the same problem , but in my case it was caused by the document properties would prevent unsigned signature fields from being signed.

Problems with some single tracks downloaded or only part of playlist appear as an album on iPhone.

Two problems:
1) Some single tracks I've downloaded (ie not part of an album in my ITunes) still appear as an album (with 1 song) when I sync with the iPhone. I've deleted all the album info so only track title and artist appear. This only happens with some tracks.
2) I've put some tracks from albums I have in iTunes into a playlist. In some cases when I have not synced the whole album to the iPhone those single tracks appear as an album (with 1 or 2 songs). I can't delete them from the album list on the iPhone as it deletes the track from the playlist. And I can't delete the album data in iTunes as the track is then removed from the album. I tried grouping the playlist but this makes no difference.
Both are really annoying as it only happens with some tracks and adds single songs to my album list. I have checked and all the visible data is the same and nothing random or odd is ticked or populated.
Is there any way I can solve either of these?

Federation trouble with some partners after public certificate renewal

I always seem to find the answer to my problems on this Forum , but this time im stuck and need a little help.
Problem happened after i renewed public certificate on Lync Edge server. Instantly discovered federated partners dropped from 13 to 3. I get presence unknown with the "undiscovered" partners.
I also got same problem with 2 out of 5 direct/enhanced federated partners.
Lync mobile ”Push Notifications” also stopped working.
I updated the certificate 29.october. Since then discovered partners has increased to 7, Lync Mobile ”Push Notifications” started working after avout 2 weeks, but I’m still missing federation with a couple of important partners,
and i still dont have federation working with partners using Lync Online (sipfed.online.lync.com). I do however never lost the federation with MSN contacts.
Looking through the Edge server Event Viewer , I do see alot of ”LS Protocol Stack” – Event id 14502
A significant number of connection failures have occurred with remote server sip.sarpsborg.com IP xx.xx.xx.xxx. There have been 289 failures in the last 880 minutes. There have been
a total of 6516 failures.
The specific failure types and their counts are identified below.

This can be due to credential issues, DNS, firewalls or proxies. The specific failure types above should identify the problem.
When I Run the “Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer” it is all green except for small warning saying.
Analyzing the certificate chains for compatibility problems with versions of Windows.
Potential compatibility problems were identified with some versions of Windows.

ExRCA can only validate the certificate chain using the Root Certificate Update functionality from Windows Update. Your certificate may not be trusted on Windows if the "Update Root
Certificates" feature isn't enabled.
My Certificate is bought from highly respected certificate authority, and it was renewed with the same authority.
When logging from a client i get these errors.

I looks to me like some of my previously federated partners dont like my new certificate, and that they basically need to update their root certificate.
I’m having a hard time establishing exactly what has gone wrong here.
Since I now have federation working with 7 partners, Lync Mobile is working with Push notifications and Microsoft Remote Connectitivity Analyser tells me Almost everything is fine.
Is there anything misconfigured at my installation, or anywhere i can look deeper?
Or…
Maybe my public Certificate Authoirty provided me with a certificate that’s ”too new”?
Or..
Maybe our federated partners havent updated their Root Server Certificates on their edge server in a while?
Can anyone help me point me in the right direction where i can look for more information?

Did you run Test-CsFederatedPartner and see if it returns successful results?
Also please check the new certificate is located in the trusted cert store on your Lync server,if not please manually add it under the personal certificates and under trusted root certification authorities,then reboot the Lync server.

If still no luck please turn on Lync server logging and reproduce the issue to get the trace log for more specific information for troubleshooting.

I am having trouble with some of my links having images. For example, Foxfire has a picture that looks like a small world. The links in question are blank.

I am having trouble with my links/websites having images attached to them. The place where the image should be is blank. For example, AARP has an A for its image. My storage website has a blank broken box where the image should be. I forgot I had trouble and had to reset Foxfire, this problem occurred after that reset.

Mixed content normally gives the world globe image, unless you are using a theme that uses a broken padlock instead. Maybe the gray triangle means invalid? I came across that in a few themes (what is invalid was not made clear), but those were not using triangle shapes to indicate that.

I cannot attach a screenshot because I have not seen a triangle of any kind in my address bar.

Trouble with pdf document converted to word

I converted a pdf to a word document but it will only allow picture tools. It does not let me make changes to the word document.

Update: I have run additional tests today, seems like it's a font that is creating the problem:
I use Merriweather, which suddenly convert to shrunken size in PDF, but if I convert the document font to something more generic, e.g. Courier New, the font size remains accurate in the PDF version.
