Troubles connecting MacBook to LG TV

I recently bought an LCD TV from LG, model 32LD358 (full HD, 1920x1080, 50 Hz), but i can't connect my macbook (2010).
i bought a minidvi-hdmi adapter and a hdmi-hdmi cable.
if i try using 480p as my tv resolution (which seems to be the only one working), my desktop appears for like 30 seconds then i get 'no signal' message again.
with other resolutions i get no results (no signal).
Any ideas? (i tried every kind of resolution and frequency)
Thanks in advance

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
MacBook 7,1 does not have a mini-DVI port. Either you misidentified the connector on your HDMI to mini, or miraculously managed to get a signal where there was none to be given, or you misidentified the MacBook.
The third port from the left is a mini-DisplayPort:
If that is not what your side looks like, it is not a MacBook 7,1.
Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info -> select hardware will identify the Mac in question.
Let's get that clear first.

Having the exact same problem with connecting ML and Snow Leopard machines to a Windows 8.1 machine. Oddly enough, connecting and copying to/from works perfectly from a Mavericks machine, despite the problems reported about Mavericks regarding the exact opposite. An old thread, but did you find a solution?

  • Trouble connecting macbook to N600

We just connected a E2500-NP using a macbook.  All of our other devices (iphone, itouches, nexus, PC) connect and run at regular speed.  My macbook (the one used to install the router) connects but loads web pages incredibly slowly.  We reinstalled the old router to see if there was a problem with the macbook.  It loads webpages at normal speed with old router.  The nexus and itouches have trouble connecting with old router.  The macbook is connected to this website with no problem but if I try to do a search on something else it loads incredibly slowly.
    Please help!!

How did you connect the macbook computer? Is it through hardwired or wireless connection? You can adjust the router’s mtu – by using this link: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=fbf8e8564632422eaa8ea80bf9dcba64_386.xml&pid=80&re... – if the concern is regarding the router’s hardwired connection. You can also use this link: http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ to help determine the best channel to be set on the router and to improve the router’s wireless performance.

  • Trouble Connecting MacBook to Netgear WGT624

Hello, I just got a MacBook and am having trouble connecting to my netgear WGT624 wireless router. We've had the router for some time with a PC connected via ethernet. This is the first time trying to connect wirelessly.
    I click on System Preferences.
    Then Network.
    Then Connect.
Under the Network drop down menu, I have two Network choices available...our router's name, and another name, probably a nearby wireless router.
When I choose our router, I get the pinwheel thingy spinning around, and then a message: "There was an error joining the AirPort network "router name here."
When I click on the other nearby network name, I get connected, and the signal strength is 4 out of 15.
What do I need to do to connect to my home's wireless router?

No need to re-install software. There should be a reset button or hole somewhere on the router. Either press the button or use a paper clip inside the hole for about 10 seconds. This should reset your router to all the default settings.
From there, once you log onto your router's setup screen, you will need to put in your regular settings (username, password, security settings, etc.). If you use security, your neighbor should not be able to access to your wireless connection.
    Good Luck.

  • Trouble connecting MacBook to a Samsung 27'' TFT

    Hi people.
I often connect my 1,83 Core Duo MacBook to a Samsung TFT display using the Mini DVI to VGA adapter and an VGA cable, in order to watch DVDs, AVIs, high definition podcasts and that kind of stuff on a bigger screen.
The MacBook and the Samsung seem to like each other, as they instantly start to work together. But there's a little issue I just can't imagine how to work out.
The resolution of the external TFT display is 1280 x 768 and the Mac gives me the option to select it at different refresh rates. And here comes the problem:
When I select 1280 x 768 at 60 Hz, the image looks clean and crisp, but it appears displaced to the left. I mean, I loose part of the desktop on the left, and I see a narrow black column at the right of the external screen.
At 85 Hz the desktop fits the screen perfectly, but the image is a little blurry. I can work that way, but I don't like losing the crispness, and when I watch video I can actually see the frames refreshing.
At 75 Hz I have both problems, and higher refresh rates are not supported by the Samsung TFT.
Any clue about how can I work it out?
    Thanks!

Here are some details of an exact timing to try that I have used successfully on a 1280 x 768 Samsung TV. Maybe they will work for your TV.
    Pixel clock: 80.13 MHz
    H Active: 1280 pixels
    H Front porch: 64 pixels
    H Sync width: 136 pixels
    H Back porch: 200 pixels
    V Active: 768 lines
    V Front porch: 1 line
    V Sync width: 3 lines
    V Back porch: 23 lines
    H Sync is positive
V Sync is negative (no check mark in box)
Interlace is off (no check mark in box)

  • Trouble connecting MacBook to HDTV. SOS!!!!

In terms of connecting an original MacBook to an HDTV, will a miniDVI (not miniDigitalPort) to VGA adapter do the trick and send the video signal. I am hearing some confusion about analog and digital signals crisscrossing and I know nothing about either. I just want to watch my laptop on my TV..oh add by the way my TV has no composite hook-ins only component, HDMI, and RGB (whatever that means)

    RGB is component.
Composite is RCA audio plugs with a Yellow video plug or S-Video plug.
With what you have on the TV you can use a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable to the TV. This will give you video but not audio because there's usually no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.
You'll need external speakers or an external stereo system to hear sound since the Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter only carries video not audio. Plug the external speakers or audio out cable to the external stereo system into the headphone jack on the MacBook.

  • Trouble connecting MacBook to HDTV HELP!

I just bought a Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDTV Cable. I want to connect my basic MacBook to my Samsung HDTV. I plugged in the HDMI side into the HDMI 1 port on the tv and I plugged in the other side to the mini displayport on my mac. My television does not recongize that there is an HDMI cord plugged in. When I go to sources and attempt to click on HDMI1 it says "This source is not connected. Please check cable again." Everything is properly plugged in and I've tried all 3 HDMI ports on my tv. I've also refreshed my tv to search for devices and nothing is detected.
Does anyone know a solution to my problem???
Is it an adaptor issue or is there a quick fix?
I've also tried to connect the cord to my roommates MacBook Pro and it still doesn't detect the HDMI cable.
    Please Help!

  • Trouble connecting Macbook to Samsung LCD TV

    Hello,
I tried connecting my Macbook to my Samsung LCD TV (through a DVI to HDMI cable) but I only got a black screen and "No signal". The macbook detects the Samsung and even displays "SAMSUNG" as a detected display.
I checked the TV manual and there I found "Don't connect a PC or laptop computer to the HDMI/DVI connectors (it will result in a black screen)"
Does anybody know why? Any solution?
Will this happen with a MacMini too? I had the intention to connect it to my TV and use it as a media center

Sorry to tell you that DVI does not support sound.  You either have to use a HDMI cable (with the appropriate adapter) or tap your audio output port with a 'Y' type cable configuration for sound.
    Ciao.

  • Having trouble connecting Macbook Pro to Samsung HDTV

    Hello all,
I am operating a Macbook Pro mid-2012 with OS 10.8.2. I have a Samsung Smart TV and I am trying to connect using Belkin HDMI cable and mini port adapter. I've run searches for firmware updates and come up with nothing.
I have tried all three HDMI ports on the TV in conjuction with connecting to my mini display port. I always have the correct input selected on the TV for the port I am trying.
When I plug into the Macbook, the screen goes off for a second and then returns as if it recognizes when I plug in but nothing on screen.
What I get on the TV Screen:
    NO SIGNAL
1-check the cable connections and the settings of your source device (the cable is connected, the settings may be a problem)
2- Press SOURCE on your remote to select connected source device (as noted above, I've done that each time)
When I go into System Preferences>Displays>I get two options display and color then best for built-in display or scaled and a brightness slider...that's it.
    I'm stumped. Please help.

Please post what specific Belkin cable you have.  Another user was trying to do this same exact thing a few days ago and the Belkin cable they had bought was an older Mini DisplayPort to HDMI converter.  The 2012 MBPs like yours have a Thunderbold port on it that's exactly the same dimensions as the old Mini DisplayPort ports are.  While the Thunderbold port is supposed to be backwards compatible with older Mini DisplayPort devices, perhaps this Belkin converter has some compatibility issues with it.  Their adapter was an all gray one bought from Walmart.

  • Having trouble Connecting Macbook to TV. Plz Help

I bought the adapter which connects the macbook to a RegDef TV using s-video or composite cable cords. Anyway, I hook it all up, and nothing happens. I click "detect displays" in the system prefs, but nothing comes up.
I feel like I am missing something really obvious.
    -Thanks

Do you have the TV set to the right input?

  • Having trouble connecting macbook pro via HDMI to television?

When I connect my macbook pro to television via HDMI thunderbolt cord it flashes blue, then the mac does not recognize any other displays. I have tried all HDMI ports and am getting the same results. Please help, trying to watch netflix on larger screen.

I don't know that it wouldn't be best to simply get a 'smart' device (my Blu-ray player is the 'smart' device in my AV line-up) such as an Apple TV, etc., to actually view NetFlix movies. That's what I do - my BR player on Ethernet - and the results are terrific. Although I've used a Thunderbolt>HDMI adapter in the past (I don't have a machine with native HDMI ports) I find that the quality and speed is just better with a smart device.
    Just a thought...

  • Trouble Connecting Macbook Pro to HDTV

So I just bought a new LG TV and have been trying to connect my MBP to it but to no avail.
I used a Mini Display Port-to-HDMI adapter and then a HDMI-to-HDMI cable to connect to the TV. However, the tv screen says no signal and it just displays the LG sign.
On the other hand, my mac does not recognize the display when the TV is on. Once I turn off the TV, the MBP's screen flashes blue and then it recognizes the TV so I can change settings and stuff in the System Preferences. But as soon as I turn on the TV, the MBP's screen flashes again and then the display does not show up on my MBP at all. When I click "Detect Displays", nothing happens.
I read other posts about connecting a MBP to a HDTV but I didn't find any other post that had the same problem as I do.
