Troubleshooting: Memory Quick Check : Failed
Before I explain the current problem, I will explain what I have done so far:
I have replaced the hard drive. Hard drive is accessable and working.
Placed the installation disk on a USB (Windows 7 Disk I had was not compatible)
After having the setup fail 2% in on expanding windows files, I searched around and found that removing a memory module could possibly solve the problem.
I removed one of the memory modules. The setup reached 30% on expanding windows files before giving me an error.
Error Code: 0x8007007B
I did the memory quick check again and it failed.

Is the system board bad? Can a system board be replaced?
Or is the actual Ram bad?
Hey @Campbell101 ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your experiencing issues installing Windows on your notebook that appear to be RAM related.
The U4SB8F-6G977U-MFPx0K-001203 error stems from the motherboard and could be one of 4 things:
1. Backplane Board.
2. System Board.
3. Processor.
4. Processor Board.
If removing one of the RAM cards helped try using the other RAM card. It is possible that the system board failure is triggered from the RAM or the DIMM slot. You'll want to try each combination of RAM possible to rule out each DIMM slot or RAM card. Example: You have DIMM-A and DIMM-B, with RAM-1 and RAM-2.
DIMM-A with RAM-1 and DIMM-B with RAM-2.
DIMM-B with RAM-1 and DIMM-A with RAM-2.
DIMM-A with RAM-1 and DIMM-B empty.
DIMM-A empty and DIMM-B with RAM-1.
DIMM-B with RAM-2 and DIMM-A empty.
DIMM-B empty and DIMM-A with RAM-2.
By trying each of these combinations you will be able to tell if you have a bad card or RAM depending on if the error follows a DIMM slot or a particular RAM stick.
If no combination works it's likely the motherboard. Replacing the motherboard can be expensive, risky, and troublesome. Replacing the motherboard on what would be considered a consumer level notebook like your requires HP proprietary software to tattoo the service ID, product and serial number on the board. For this you need to send the notebook for service. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.
Hopefully this is the information you're looking for.

We just recently increased the available memory from 8GB to 24GB to help ensure that there is enough memory. This error never happened on CRM v4. According to the resource monitor, SQL is only reserving 20.7GB of RAM and there is 694MB of RAM in Standby.
The main Async service is using 660MB and the maintenance Async service is using 265MB.
To resolve the issue temporarily, I restarted both Async services this morning. Shortly after everything came back, they were holding fairly steady around 350MB and 200MB. It's been six hours since then.
The last time I spoke with Microsoft about a similar problem, they suggested increasing the amount of RAM.It became more and more of a problem. It was impacting the users in a more subtle way at first. You couldn't configure the CRM for Outlook client. After a while, they couldn't use CRM in Outlook at all and users reporting not being able to complete phone
call activities. I opened a ticket with MS and they suggested the same as Wilson Lou did. The organization error had nothing to do with the creep on the async services usage of RAM. It was indeed caused by SQL stealing all of the memory. Limiting the max usage
to 24GB RAM has resolved that error.
My Async processes are still using a LOT of RAM, but now that I have more than enough RAM, it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. They are currently using about 700MB RAM each.
Also, I have upgraded to SP1, UR2.

How can I stop a task sequence if a custom HTA preflight check fails?
In our currently deployment method, we launch an HTA program before initiating the OSD process. This is only when run from the RAP menu, not via PXE. When a user initiates OSD through that menu, they get a message prompting them to close Outlook, and
a countdown of 5 mins, then OSD starts. They also have the ability to click on an 'OK' button to proceed on their own.
I've created a new script which checks WMI if Outlook and/or OCS are open, and if the machine is running on battery, spit out a "Failed" response and stop the HTA. I've also added a "recheck" button to re-do the check, and an 'OK
button if people jsut want to continue.
I'm curious if there is a way to prevent the task sequence from continuing if any of those conditions arent met. Currently it just pops up and says "Failed, Cannot conitue", but if they close the window, the task sequence thinks the program
has run, and the OSD migration starts. I'd like to be able and get the script to cancel the OSD process if a check fails.
Has anyone had success with this, using WINXP? I'd use the MS pre-flight check but it's only for WIN7.Interesting. Thanks for the response. Is there anybody out there that can assist with VBS part of the solution?
Here's the code I'm working with. Currently the battery piece isnt working as it should but I can figure that our, eventually. I'd like to get Jason's proposed solution in the code. If this isn't the right place, I'll take this somewhere
else.

Java ME 8 Permission check failed when opening a serial port
I have a larger Jave ME8.1 application that was going well until I tried to add one last piece, reading and writing data from a serial port. This was left to last because it is trivial, at least in most programming languages. The is IDE NetBeans 8.0.2 running on a Windows 7 PC. The platform is a Raspberry Pi B or B+ (I have tried both) with the most current Raspbian (12/24/2014 I believe). To simplify the process I created a new app with just the open and close code and this generates the same error I am experiencing in the larger application. The program is as follows:
package javamecomapp;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.io.OutputStream;
import java.util.logging.Level;
import java.util.logging.Logger;
import javax.microedition.io.CommConnection;
import javax.microedition.io.Connector;
import javax.microedition.midlet.MIDlet;
* @author ****
public class JavaMEcomApp extends MIDlet {
static int BAUD_RATE = 38400;
static String SERIAL_DEVICE = "ttyAMA0";
static CommConnection commConnection = null;
static OutputStream os = null;
static InputStream is = null;
static String connectorString;
private int rtnValue = -1;
@Override
public void startApp() {
java.lang.System.out.println("Opening comm port.");
try {
rtnValue = JavaMEcomApp.openComm();
} catch (IOException ex) {
Logger.getLogger(JavaMEcomApp.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
@Override
public void destroyApp(boolean unconditional) {
java.lang.System.out.println("Closing comm port.");
try {
rtnValue = JavaMEcomApp.closeComm();
} catch (IOException ex) {
Logger.getLogger(JavaMEcomApp.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
private static int openComm()throws IOException {
java.lang.System.out.println("Opening comm port.");
connectorString = "comm:" + SERIAL_DEVICE + ";baudrate=" + BAUD_RATE;
commConnection = (CommConnection)Connector.open(connectorString);
is = commConnection.openInputStream();
os = commConnection.openOutputStream();
return 0;
private static int closeComm()throws IOException {
java.lang.System.out.println("Closing comm port.");
is.close();
os.close();
commConnection.close();
return 0;
If I comment out the JavaMEcomApp.openComm and closeComm lines it runs fine. When they are included, the following error is dumped to the Raspberry Pi terminal:
Opening comm port.
Opening comm port.

I have tried this with three different serial ports, /dev/ttyAMA0 (yes I did disable the OS from using it), an arduino board /dev/ttyACM0, and a USB to RS485 adaptor /dev/ttyUSB0. All of these ports could be connected and use normally with both a C program and terminal program in the Pi. The API Permissions were set in the project properties / Application Descriptor / API Permissions to jdk.dio.DeviceMgmtPermission "/dev/ttyAMA0". This of course was changed as I tested different devices.
I found a reference suggesting adding the line "authentication.provider = com.oracle.meep.security.NullAuthenticationProvider" to the end of the jwc_properties.ini file. This had no effect. I found references that during development in eclipse and NetBeans, the app is already elevated to the top level so this should not be an issue until deployment. This does not appear to be the case.
I am out of time and need a solution quickly. Any suggestions are welcome.Terrence,
Thank you for responding and confirming the issues I'm having with static addressing. As far as the example above, I do have the standard LEDs working correctly, however, the example I'm referring to above is from the JavaME samples using the GPIO Port for the LEDS, according to the Device I/O Preconfigured List you referenced:
GPIO Ports
The following GPIO ports are preconfigured.
Devicel ID
Device Name
Mapped
Configuration
8
LEDS
PTB22
PTE26
PTB21
direction = 1 (Output only)
initValue = 0
GPIOPins:
controllerNumber = 1
pinNumber = 22
mode = 4 (Push-pull mode)
controllerNumber = 4
pinNumber = 26
mode = 4 (Push-pull mode)
controllerNumber = 1
pinNumber = 21
mode = 4 (Push-pull mode)
So is the assumption that using GPIOPort for accessing the GPIO port for Device ID 8 as listed in the Device I/O Preconfigured list not supported? -
Seagate external drive: Partition map check failed because no slices were found
I have a 3TB Seagate Expansion external backup drive connected to my Retina Macbook Pro via USB. The disk will not eject from a regular Finder window - it will only eject from Disk Utility. Backups seem to otherwise be running fine. I tried to verify/repair the disk in Disk Utility, and I got the following error: "Partition map check failed because no slices were found." I am able to verify/repair the partition without any problem, and no errors are found.
I'm concerned about relying on a backup drive that may be heading south. Here is the output from diskutil info:

Hi,I am trying to do factory recovery of my HP DV6 laptop using original HP recovery disc.My laptop has Windows 7 (64Bit) OS. I am doing below steps
By pressing F10,entering BIOS mode, changed the BOOT ORDER to take from CD ROM and saved the setting with F10 option and then forced shutdown the laptop and inserted the 1st recovery disc
Restarted the laptop and it started to boot and it asked for all 3 recovery disc + Supplement driver disc. All were successfully copied and installed. Laptop was restared multple times as it was being displayed on screen. I could see there were Softwares being installed, Service setting,registry setting being applied to computer and after around 1 to 1.5 hours laptop gets shut down, so i beleive all installations have been [performed.
Now when i start my laptop, it says
Windows was not shut down properly choose an option and when i seelct either of the 4 options like Satrt normally or Start with command prompt or Start with Networking...everytime it takes me to screen giving belwow message:
SAVE LOGS DETAILS RETRY
In Details logs, i see below as the message
P2PP BURNBOOT Check failed
Possible causes:
1. Yellow-Bang occured at device manager
2. Some silent-install failure of applications
3. Found failed at PININST_BBV
4. Found failed at PININST_BBV2
5. Found memory Dump file
Suggestion:
1. Checking REGDEV_BB.log for drivers
2. Checking BBApps.log for applications
3. Checking MEMDUMP_BBV.log for memory dump file
1. After reading forums queries, I tried to set BIOS default by pressing F9 andf then pressing F10 ,saving and exit and then tried to reinstall everything but i get the same error.
2.I tried changing the system date from March 18th 2015 to March 18th 2012 and then do recovery , but still getting same error
3. I pressed F2 and did all Memory and Hard disk test and it all passed.
So Can anyone please help me whats the issue. ThanksHi there @VKD1
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that your notebook is not starting after a system recovery, with a "Windows was not shutdown properly" error message.
See if you can run the startup repair:

Fileserver consistency checks failing 0x809909B0
I have a file server with approx. 1.7TB of files which became inconsistent on the 8th of November, and has been unable to complete a consistency check since then.
Consistency checks fail with the error:
The protection agent on <server> was temporarily unable to respond because it was in an unexpected state. (ID 60 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909B0)
I have removed and re-added the server, including deleting the protected data from DPM disk, and reinstalled the DPM agent on the file server, but I still receive the above error when consistency checking.
DPM is System Center 2012 R2 v4.2.1254.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
The file server is running Windows Server 2012 R2 also.
KB2919355 is installed on both systems.
I did have Dedup running on the file server, but have un-deduped the drive as part of troubleshooting this issue.
Other servers backed up by this DPM server are being backed up fine, including a HyperV cluster, 2 exchange servers and 2 sharepoint farms.
There are a large number of these errors in the DPMRA log around the time the job fails:

I have also tried the steps in this article with no change:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/107bdce0-e13c-427a-9341-07d4b558f007/dpmra-crashing-after-update-to-dpm-2012-r2-ur2
Currently I have reduced the amount of shares being backed up to just ~400gb of data and I have it in a consistent state, but I need to get the remainder of the data backed up, and I can’t be in a situation where if it becomes inconsistent it can’t run a
successful consistency check again.Hi,
If you want to pursue this immediately, you can visit the following web site to open a support incident. The charge to your CC will not be processed until your case is resolved and closed, if it's a code defect in the DPM then we wave all charges.

Filesystem check failed, but filesystems are clean
Im running custom kernel and this might be related to it, but Im on my wits' end here and looking for pointers.
The problem is, Im getting filesystem check failed every time I boot my system. And it gives no apparent reason
for it to happen. I have fsck'd my partitions many times and they are clean. My hwclock is in time and rc.conf is set
to 'localtime'. The problem didn't occurs on the previous kernel (2.6.18) I had, so I've been using its running config to
compile the new one (2.6.23). The thing is, the previous kernel works fine, no filesystem check failed in boot. Only
difference between those two is I had to enable HOTPLUG in the newer kernel to get udev working, otherwise it would
complain about failing netlink socket in initscript.
As a temporary solution, I commented out the filesystem check from the rc.sysinit and it boots further. This time
it fails to mount my /boot/ and /home/ directory and fails to activate my swap. Effectively only root is mounted, but
after logging in, "mount -a" works without any problems and I can use my system normally.
I have compiled all(?) the needed modules to the kernel, so initramfs shouldn't be needed, but I've tried it anyway, no
luck there. The system is build with 2009.08 core install disc, no packages updated as far as I recall.

should I have /boot and /home in /dev?
Full system upgrade gave me the same issue. Even after udev downgrade (udev-142 is the latest I can use with 2.6.23).
Edit:
Changed my fstab back from by-uuid to hdaX, didn't help. Strangely all hdaX are in /dev/ after boot, but the symlinks are missing.

How to resolve "Performance counter registry hive consistency check" failed?
I want to install SQL Server 2008 November CTP Developer Enu. When "System Configuration Check" it shows:

The performance counter registry hive is corrupted.
And cannot continue installing. How to solve this problem?I've actually solved the problem for my Vista and Win 7 (traditional chinese version).

I have realized that the code 009 is for english language and 004 for chinese traditional and in my "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib" did only exist 009 and 0404 key.
Hence, i've created a new 004 key and copied 009 counter and help contents to this newly created key.
Without restarting the OS, I was able to install smoothly MS SQL server express RC2.
I'm so happy to have overcome this problem.
But just out of curiosity does anyone know the syntax for the language codes? (009 for English, 004 for Chinese and 0404? -
'volume check failed', and disk utility can't fix it
I was planning to create a new bootable backup today and ran 'repair disk' from an install disk before cloning.
Unfortunately I grabbed a Panther disk by mistake, and only discovered it was the wrong disk as I took it out. By then, DU had run through the 'repair' - changing quite a few things - until it showed 'volume cannot be repaired'.
I've tried to correct them using DU from the Tiger install disk, but without any luck. DU shows:
+Invalid catalogue record type+
+Volume check failed+
+Error: the underlying task reported failure on exit+
+1 Volume could not be repaired because of an error+
My iBook still appears to be running perfectly, but obviously I need to repair the disk before I can clone it. Disk Utility can't do it - could DiskWarrior?
I'd really appreciate some advice on the options open to me, and the best way to do it.Success!
I powered down and ran DiskWarrior a 2nd time to rebuild the directory. This time I skipped the recommended Preview stage and went straight to confirming Rebuild. Everything now seems to be fine again. DU finds no faults with the disk, and the iBook feels significantly quicker and snappier.
Two things I learnt that might be helpful - the first is, it's easy to be careless for just a moment and end up in a time-consuming mess. It's the first time I've done it, and I won't be doing it again.
Second thing is, when people say DiskWarrior is slow to boot, they mean it - it took at least 10 minutes to show up on screen, which is unsettling. And the Preview stage, for me, was equally unnerving.
Still, it worked - superbly - all my data is intact, the iBook is overhauled and working faster than ever. -

Could it be something with the shm setting, maybe sysctl?
I have 4GB of ram in this machine. Same exact machine works perfect on rhel 4

P2PP Boot Check Failed - Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition (Windows 7) using Recovery Media
Hello, My name is Brandon Giesel and I have an HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition laptop. I've been using Windows 7 recovery media (part # 689366-002) to attempt to restore my computer back to factory defaults. I run the recovery dvds as instructed with disc 1, disc 2, disc 3, and application and driver recovery dvd. I've tried reseting the bios back to setup defaults to be safe and I use the boot device options to select the built-in dvd/cd-rom drive. I've also installed a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium using the box set dvd I have laying around home and it installed no problem and boots to the desktop, but ofcourse doesn't have all the necessary drivers and hp software. I did this to confirm that hardware works properly. The computer also passes the start-up test. Memory and Hard Drive passed the test. The recovery seems to go through without a hitch until I hit the end and I get an error message that I believe is pointing to the network controller not functioning correctly. Error message down below... I used the same recovery media that I've used successfully in the past and tried 3 different sets of recovery media all with matching part numbers with no success. I also tried installing Windows using a MS box installation disc and installed the Realtec Ethernet Controller driver thinking that if I got the ethernet driver installed before doing the recovery that it would allow the recovery to go through successfully, but that didn't work either. Do you guys or gals have any ideas or suggestions on possible fixes? I'm open to advanced solutions. I've gone through Microsoft Windows 8.1 MCSA certification training, but this one has me absolutely stumped. What you do to alleviate the issue is up to you, like I said.
I could think of more draconian methods to dim the lights.
You can get some black nail polish, or black enamel car paint in one of those small bottles, and paint over them if you want.
You can figure out a way to break them.
They are not designed to be turned off or dimmed with software or settings. -
[SOLVED] Filesystem check failed on LVM partition...
My server experienced a power outage last night, and I noticed today that it wasn't booting correctly. Apparently, the storage partition, /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-lvolstorage fails the filesystem check. The first time I booted into it, I ran a manual check and answered (y) to the questions. Now when booting, it quickly displays a bunch of numbers and that scrolls for a little while (goes too fast to understand what they are...). Then it says:
####Filesystem Check Failed####
Please repair manually, blah blah blah
I'm not really sure what to do. Running fsck does the whole numbers scrolling across the screen thing again, finally asking if I want to clone multiply-claimed blocks... =/ I don't want to answer yes anymore until I get someone's input. <_<
EDIT: It said before that there are 81 inodes containing multiply-claimed blocks... Then it said a certain large file (inode #20) has 27818 multiply-claimed blocks shared with 24 other files, and it then lists other files.
Last edited by XtrmGmr99 (2010-05-21 14:14:25)It went ahead and fixed the filesystem, however some of the files (music files mostly) are corrupted and won't play. I have backups of those so it's no big lose, as long as the file system works now.

Hardware: MacBook late 2009 (2.26Ghz Core 2 Duo 2 GB RAM 250GB HDD) running 10.9.4, Hackintosh MacPro (3.29Ghz i3 16GB RAM 1TB HDD) running 10.9.4, external 3 TB Seagate Backup+ drive
As you can can see from the screenshot below,
The external drive was initially plugged in a Netgear WNDR4500 router by USB to be used as NAS. I was in the middle of updating the firmware when there was a power outage. Upon reboot, the drive no longer mounts, whatever it is plugged in (router, Mac, PC, etc.).
I ran DiskUtility on the partition map and volume, same errors. Here's an what I see:
As you can see above, the "Mount" icon is greyed out and I get the error message "Partition map check failed because no slices were found". If I select "the Archive" partition, the "Mount" icon is not greyed out but clicking it doesn't do anything. My HDD is basically unreadable.
I issued a few Terminal commands to see what was the problem, here are the results:
What can I do?
Currently running analysis on TestDisk and it is 50% after 48hrs. Need some help!@ Allan Eckert: Unfortunately, reformatting is out of the question, I have 5 years of work on this!
@ Loner T: Yes, the firmware did successfully upgrade after router reboot and a bit of troubleshoot.
Thanks for the quick replies. Keep 'em coming! -
