TrueCrypt 6.2 system drive encryption hangs system sometimes a day

Hi,
I use truecrypt for years with xp and vista - last with Vista and T500, a few weeks ago I installed windows 7 x64 rtm. Every thing works fine and so I checked step by step my usual installed apps and tools.
I see win7 is not supported by truecrypt but seems to work fine. But sometimes (one or two a hour) my system hangs for about 10 to 40 seconds. So I decided to go step by step backwards and removed installed tools.
Removing TC solved my problem. Has anybody seen the same (TC6.2 on Win7 ult. x64 using Lenovo T500 with Intel SSD)?
best regards
  Ronny

I have exactly the same problem, but with a HP Elitebook 2530p
TrueCrypt 7.0a
Windows 7 x64
SSD drive, but had the same problem on my traditional HDD.
The interval is somewhat longer for me, maybe a few times a day.
And, just as you discovered, removing truecrypt system encryption resolves the issue. Wonder if it's an issue with just the system drive encryption thingy, or it affects all systems having encrypted volumes opened?

  • How to load image from non-GUID system drive to GUID system drive.

About five months ago I got a new Mac Mini. About a month later I upgraded the internal HDD myself with a faster larger model. I used a third party software to clone the image from the original drive to the new drive and everything went smoothly, or seemingly so. Apparently I had omitted setting the partition scheme for GUID (I didn't know at the time) when formatting the new drive but everything seemed to work wonderfully and has been for some time under Leopard. But Snow Leopard will not upgrade to the non-GUID system drive.
I have tried (twice now) booting from the Snow Leopard DVD and using its disk utility to create an image of my system drive (compressed), reformat the drive for the GUID scheme, and then restore from the saved image. Every time I get:
    RESTORE FAILURE
Not enough space on /dev/disk0s2 to restore
I am restoring to a 320GB drive 270GB of system & data in that image (217GB compressed.) The first time I got this error I had only 5GB free on the drive so I freed up over 10% of space on it to try again but got the same result.

As far as the free space, I am referring to the state of the system drive before creating the first image. It had 33GB free the second time because I had moved extra files off the system drive myself to see if it would allow image-creation/partition-for-GUID/restore-partition to work.
Yes, during both tries the images were made in the (default) compressed state. I am already in process of trying the operation with compression off. Fingers crossed.

  • How do I locate and delete items on system drive?

    I have a 150 gig system drive.
My system drive is down to 6gigs.
I want to determine what is taking up so much space.
I am installed and I'm running; FCS2, Photoshop, Illustrator, Word- and very little else.
My FCP Media is kept on external drives.
I'm not sure why I am down to 6gigs?
How can I determine what is sucking up space?

Hi! WhatSize is a free app to show the folder that are taking up the most space but there's not a Leopard version yet. Have you let the computer run 24/7 to clear the temp files. Usually it's the pict and music files that take up all the space. Tom

  • Encrypted Live System on USB-thumb drive

    Hey all,
I am fed up with the different systems on various computers. So I want an Arch Linux Live System on an USB thumb drive I can carry around and plug into the computers I stumble upon.
I want to be able to have some data (emails, favourites and so on) and some additional programs (vlc, Open Office, ...) on the live system so I can use them. And there are the upgrades for Arch I don't want to mis
As I am known to lose small things, thumb drives, I want to encrypt that system.
I have already an Arch install running on my PC and I would like to stick to Arch. Will Arch be able to adapt to various different PCs? I was thinking about using Ubuntu, because it will run on almost anything but, well it's not Arch...
I would like to have at least two partitions:
    - One encrypted Live System where I can store personal data
    - One partition where I can store other information and which I can read from any Linux/Win32 computer (most probable NTFS)
    - Is a Swap Partition usefull or will it just wear down the drive? What can I expect if I don't have a Swap?
So where shall I start? Partitioning the drive?
    - Boot sector 150 MB
    - Swap 1 GB
    - System  5 GB
    - Data Rest
Has anybody tried this? Better yet, succeded?
So I have a 16GB thumb drive here waiting for your suggestios!
    Thanks!

I don't have it encrypted, but I made a simple version of what you proposed -- 1st half of 8gb drive is NTFS (though I'd consider Vfat after reading up some more). 2nd half is bootable partition w/ Larch install. Works great! Larch takes a bit to figure out, but it's not too hard. No boot or swap parititions.
    Good luck!

  • Critical BitLocker Drive Encryption system files are not available

    Hi all,
We are running into some issues when attempting to configure BitLocker Drive Encryption through the BitLocker UI on Windows Server 2008SP2.
On running the BitLocker configuration screen we are presented with a message stating that
‘Your system volume is not configured correctly to allow you to use BitLocker Drive Encryption.
Critical BitLocker Drive Encryption system files are not available’
We believe this issue may have been caused during a recent hardware migration using the DoubleTake Move software as we encountered a similar issue with the Windows Backup utility not seeing any available HDDs.
Has anyone else encountered a similar issue and aware of any potential fix?

I think it should be supported on Windows Server 2008 as it is supported on Windows Vista.
Can you check whether BdeHdCfg.exe is present in System32 folder. If not can you copy the BdeHdCfg.exe installer from higher version of OS and copy it to the system32 folder on Windows Server 2008 and then run the command with the administrative rights.
NOTE : Make sure to change the directory to %SystemDrive%\Windows\System32
    Before running the command.

  • DVD Drive hanging system

Hi Everybody! Ive got an NEC 3500 DVD drive in my dual 1.25ghz system. It's got some kind of problem where after a period of time, sometimes a few seconds, sometimes a few minutes, sometimes several hours, the drive will become unresponsive, and any attempt by an app or the system to access the drive will render that application frozen and the only fix is to hold the power button and physically turn the machine off. It's totally intermittent! Sometimes, I will put in a disk and open it, then go to an enclosed folder, and the thing hangs. Sometimes, I can have a disk in there for hours and it will work just great. Ive tried all kinds of stuff and can't seem to find the problem, let alone the solution. Taking the drive out of the machine and putting it into a firewire case, it works fine, so it's got to be some kind of issue with the system. Any suggestions?

Uncheck "HDD sleep whenever possible" in SysPref's, also set Energy Saver to sleep NEVER if the first option does not do it..

  • MBAM will not auto encrypt the system partition

First after reimaging, I need to use tpm.msc to prepare the TPM, as the TPM is running in reduced functionality. The computer reboots and clears the TPM. After the reboot, the logs no longer show any new errors.
However if the option “Configure the number of noncompliance grace period days for operating system drives” is set to zero; nothing ever happens. There are no errors in the logs.
If “Configure the number of noncompliance grace period days for operating system drives” is unconfigured. The user is prompted to encrypt, if the user choses to encrypt everything works correctly.
We are using HP Probook 6545b notebooks
Below you see the MBAM policy.
I must have missed something in the BIOS or the policy, but what?

I have checked the MBAM node in Event Viewer, policies are applying successfully. We are not using a PIN. I am beginning to believe this is a hardware limitation. As on a newer notebook I only needed to use TPM.msc to manually, prepare the TPM and after
reboot automatic encryption began. I need to solve the issue with manually needing to prepare the TPM.

  • Windows 7 problem with EFS (Encrypting file system)

    Hello colleagues!
I think this topic is related more to the security.
The problem is a bit unusual and google doesn't give me a clear answers, but maybe anyone came across
    with similar problem...
In general, I suspect that my problem is EFS (Encrypting file system), ie
service that automatically encrypts files using a digital signature (certificate).
    A little background:
    - On the work PC it was necessary to reinstall
the system, according to corporate rules all the content we have is encrypted using EFS (Encrypted files are highlighted with green color as you know).
I have copied all the data on a portable drive and also copied the certificates (certmgr.msc).
The system was reinstalled. The only change - it was x32 and became x64.
    - It was necessary to free up some space on the hard drive (the file
system on it is NTFS), so,  I temporary copied all the files on my home PC. My work certificate was installed on it too, because
    I work from home
    sometimes.
When the  work PC was repaired, I've moved all the files back in
the same way (ie on the portable HDD, then to the work PC).
All files were working, but when I needed MS Word documents, it became clear that something was wrong.
When I've opened the document, it gaveme a window with weird symbols and prompts me to select the encoding ... of course -
    no encoding was fit.
Started to explore all the documents, it appears that some part of them were working,
someof them not - all the old documents were working, ie the ones, which
were created before deploying EFS (newly created or copied files immediately encrypted).
So, now I am sure that the
documents were somehow re-encrypted, at least on a portable hard drive, they do not look as encrypted (not highlighted in green), but it's still not open.
Completely stopped opening all the documents that have
been encrypted (for all types of files, ie it is not just an MS Word, but also pdf, presentations, charts, and even the pictures).
    Tell me, who faced similar?
How can it all back? I have no possibility to restore those documents from another sources.

Try copy those corrupted files and make sure you are using the same certificate and then re-encrypt the copied files and try decrypt them.
If possible, use the same account as you used for encryption.

  • USB hard drive transfer forces system into a cawl

I attached an external USB 2.0 hdd and stored data on it at a rate of about 35MB/s. This took really long, cause it was a larger backup. CPU load didn't exceed 20%.
However, the whole system suddenly because slow to react and there were really bad freeze spikes coming up repeatedly that would completely freeze the system for like 10 seconds or so.
Basically the system because very hard to use, and that over the course of some hours till the backup was finished.
It's a Core i7 with 8 GB RAM of which about 6GB were free.
Now I think that must be a bug in the kernel, since a mere USB 2.0 transfer shouldn't be able to freeze this kind of system?
I tried a workaround by specifying
    ionice -c 3 -p <pid of the copy process>
but although to me it seemed that the general system slowdown disappeared, the frequent freezes remained.
Are there maybe any unofficial kernel patches available for USB transfers that would prevent the system from freezing? Any other solution?

It's a known issue and it has been present since forever.
What filesystems, what schedulers, are you using the stock Arch kernel? Does it happen with the -ck kernel?
What command did you use exactly to move your data?
I write into a truecrypt container that's on an NTFS-formatted USB stick and contains an Ext4 file system.
I used two commands, both cause these problems, the first one being even worse than the second one.
    truecrypt -t -c <..create encrypted container file..>
    dd if=/dev/sda of=/<..truecrypt container mount point> bs=1M
No idea what schedulers, how do I find out?
Stock kernel yes, except I had to patch it with:
    CONFIG_HZ_1000=y
    CONFIG_HZ=1000
which I needed for my NVidia GPU to prevent it from crashing randomly when Bumblee daemon tries to enable it and enter an unusable state until system gets rebooted.
    This goes with kernel parameters:
    rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1 acpi_enforce_resources=lax
I haven't tried that "ck" kernel because I read how people reported that it didn't help them with this problem.

  • X-Fi + 2 GFX-Cards = high CPU-Load, slow Mouse, hanging system

    >X-Fi + 2 GFX-Cards = high CPU-Load, slow Mouse, hanging systemA Hey guys,
I'm running 2 GF 8800 GTs (PCIe .) cards on a MSI Eclipse SLI board. My Audigy2 ZS PCI runned fine in this system.
I just replaced the Audigy by a PCIe X-Fi (EMU20K2 audio processor - not the xtreme audio from MSI).
Now I'm dealing with the following issue:
    - System startup is slow
    - in Windows, Mouse is slow, stuttering
    - high CPU-Load
    - very slow system response
!!! Attention !!! I had this problems allready at the st boot with the X-Fi, when the driver from creative wasn't installed (the card was recognized as "HD Audio" bei Windows 7). Installing the drivers didn't help.
If I install only one graphics card, the system runns fine and I can use the X-Fi and it's Software without problems.
If I replace the X-Fi by the PCIe Xtreme Audio from MSI, System runns fine.
If I use Win XP with the two GFX cards and the X-Fi, System runns fine.
    Can you help me?

Deactivating the onboard sound doesnt help.
Newest Nvidia and Creative driver too =(
The system runs fine without the X-FI and two GTX260 no errors ect...
One GTX260 runs also fine with the X-FI
But two graphic cards and the X-FI..... **bleep** =/
I use debian as my main OS and it run still fine with both graphic cards and the x-fi...

  • How to install Creative Cloud on any drive other than my System drive...

You are now chatting with 'Bhagawan'
Bhagawan: Hello. Welcome to Adobe Technical Support.
    Bhagawan: Hi Steve
Steve: It appears CC installs on my system drive without asking me. The way I manage my system - this is not acceptable. So, how do I install on the drive I install all my other apps?
Bhagawan: I understand that you want to install Creative Cloud desktop app. Am I correct?
Steve: On a particular drive - not my system drive.
    Steve: CC, Photoshop, etc.
Bhagawan: I will be glad to check and help you with this issue.
Bhagawan: Steve, creative cloud desktop app can be install only on C drive, but other apps you select for other drive.
Steve: My C: drive is dedicated to my OS only.
Steve: It is a special drive that will not work for very long if software companies put their programs on it till it fills up and then everything stops.
Steve: Didn't Adobe think of this?
Steve: I have one computer that only has a few MBs left of C:. What do I do on that computer?
    Steve: "left on C:"
    Bhagawan: Give me a minute.
    Bhagawan: Thank you.
Bhagawan: Steve, I'm really sorry, creative cloud desktop app will be installed on C Drive, since the operating system is installed, but other Creative Cloud apps can be installed other Drive and depends on file size.

I had the same problem and finally solved it.
It is "funny" that CC doesn't ask you where to install apps. Or better to say, it asks you but doesn't care. In Creative Cloud desktop app/Preferences there is option to choose where you want apps to be installed, but they are still installed in C:/Program Files/....
How to install apps on secondary drive in just 3 steps:
    1. Go to page Adobe CC 2014 Direct Download Links – Creative Cloud 2014 Release | ProDesignTools and download all apps that you will need.
    2. Once downloaded, install it. During installation you will be asked where you want app to be installed (just like in any other "normal" installation)
    3. Be happy
    Hope I helped

  • How can I get "all my files" to recognize files in a non system drive?

I use a Mac Pro with four internal drives, OSX 9.2. My system drive is an SSD so I keep user files on another drive in an adjacent bay.
Files in my non-system disc are not displayed in the "all my files" finder view. If I copy a file from the system disc to my user disc, the copy is not recognized, and when I trash the original, of course, there is no reference to either. If I search, spotlight finds it. This behavior seems to apply to all files and is regardless of anything selected in the sidebar before "all my files". I have not marked any files, folders or drives as private. I presume I must have a set a pref wrong. I would really appreciate any advice.
    Thank you.

To change the program that .indd files default to when opened in OSX, right click on the .indd file > Open With > Other.
Then navigate to the version of InDesign that you want to open them with (I have CS6 installed but its the same for CS5). Make sure you have "Always Open With" selected.

requirement e.g. out of the 20 gb, how much is needed on the system drive.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Exact space required will vary widely based on installation components chosen and what you may have already installed on your system.
And When you install your VS in another Drive and run the VS installer, you can see system requirement in installation screen.
Because my work computer only have C Drive, I test the VS2012 professional installation in my home computer E drive. The Screen below:
I think the system requirement can also display when you install  VS 2013.
