Trying to add a movie to an iPod makes the computer shutdown?

This is my first time posting here, so please bear with me if I do something incorrectly. One of my new movies refuses to be added to my iPod. When I try to add it, the progress bar gets most of the way there before freezing. Then my computer completely shuts down and says that Windows has been shutdown in order to prevent damage. I updated iTunes to the latest version and my iPod is updated as well. I tried it a few times, the first time I didn't actually see it happen and thought maybe one of the cats stepped on the keyboard or something. The second time it only closed iTunes, but the third time the entire computer shutdown again. After that I updated iTunes to see if that would fix the problem and tried again, but it did the same thing. Looking around, I did see a few topics similar, but couldn't find anything that was my exact issue. The interesting thing is that it's just that one movie. I tested a few others by moving them to and from my iPod and it went fine. When I play the movie in iTunes it also appears to play completely normal. I haven't sat down and watched the whole thing, but jumping around here and there went fine. Since it's only this one movie, I'm wondering if the issue may be with the file itself? However, I would think that if there was an issue with the file it wouldn't play ok. But I'm unsure how I would delete and redownload it without possibly messing something up. I'm also concerned that if I keep trying it and the same thing keeps happening that it might actually end up damaging my computer somehow. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Also, I'm not sure if it may matter or not, but the movie does have iTunes extras. I did check though, and one of my other movies with extras added to my iPod normally so I don't think that's the problem.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

pls help, i can't add any movies to my ipod classic as i use to do as before

Why not? What happens when you try? How are you trying to sync them or do you manually manage your iPod's content?  Are you getting any specific error messages from iTunes?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

  • Trying to add photos from pc to ipod using Icloud...Help!!

I have an Ipod touch, I simply want to add some photos from my pc  (which is not a mac, I`m running Windows 7) to my ipod, I thought I`d be able to do this through `ICLOUD PHOTO STREAM` but I`m not having any luck, can anyone help??? I`m not a computer dummy but I`m not a computer genius either, I wish they`d just make something simple that works for once! Most people that use these programs are just the avg. person not a computer tech.

Each time you use iTunes to sync photos from a computer, it sets the non-Camera Roll photos on the phone to match the current settings/selections on the Photos page of iTunes. For example, if you have previously selected 2 folders or albums to sync from the computer and want to add a 3rd, you need to select all 3 before you sync. That will add the 3rd folder/album and will also add any new photos that are on the computer in the original 2 albums. It really isn't what I would think of as a sync since it is one-way -- it will move photos from the computer to the phone but will not move in the other direction or have any other affect on the photos on the computer. It is a sync in the sense that it will keep the selected folders on the phone in sync with those folders/albums on the computer (i.e., if you add to or delete from the selected folders/albums on the computer then the same changes will be made to the phone).

  • HT1539 can i add my digital copy to itunes with out using the disk? my netbook does not have a disk drive and i want to add my movie to my ipod can i do it with out the use of the disk and just the code?

Can I add my digital copy movie to my iTunes with out using the disk, my gateway laptop/netbook does not have a disk drive I have the unused code and everything, I just can't stuck the movie into the computer itself and my desktop computer has no internet on it. Is there a way to add my movie to my iPod touch 2nd generation tuning 4.2.1

    Hiya!
It depends on what kind of digital copy you have.  This article goes ino details regarding the two types, and depending on the type you have, you may or may not need the DVD to redeem the code.

  • I was trying to add music onto my new ipod, and my itunes said it needs version 10.6.3. i then downloaded it, then it said it requires mac os x version 10.6.8. what does that mean?

If it's a fourth generation or earlier model, you need to download iTunes 10.6.3; the newer versions won't run on 10.5.8.
If it's a fifth generation iPod touch, you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, which requires an Intel Mac, and then run Software Update. This also works with earlier iPods but isn't the best solution.

I am trying to store music for two different iPods on the same Windows 8 computer, and when I try and download content from the Cloud I get an error message. Is it possible to have two different Apple IDs on the same computer?

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

  • Can I move music from IPOD to new computer?

My old laptop died. So I have a new one. I have 30 GB of music on my IPOD classic right now. But I want to transfer the music to my ITUNES library on my new laptop.
Is there a way to do this? There should be. I don't want to have to copy all my CDs to my new laptop. Why can't I just transfer the IPOD content to a new computer?

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.

trying to rent a movie on apple tv for the first time and have to authorize my computer but can't find the itunes menu that allows me to do this.  any thoughts out there?

If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

  • I have tried to rent a movie in iTunes twice in the last few hours, both times it says my session has timed out.  I was browsing to begin with, but then tried closing iTunes

I have tried to rent a movie in iTunes twice in the last few hours.  First I was browsing then tried to rent and was told my session had timed out.  I closed iTunes and went directly to rent the specific movie and still the same response, session timed out.  I completely logged out of iTunes, tried again 5 hours later, still the same timed out response.  I have successfully rented, downloaded movies and watched them previously.  Any similiar issues for anyone lately? Any ideas why this is happening?
